Audio Encoding.... forever..... and ever....

Hello All
Has anyone found away to resolve this issue? I have a 38 minute movie that has been encoding audio for 7 hours. I've read other threads that say... "just wait it out".
I have a new Imac with the Intel Duo Processor, 2GB of Ram. Has anyone found away to resolve this or at least know that Audio is actually encoding?
I'm having a hard time believing that a company that prides themselves in being user friendly would let a software go on the market with this issue. I hope they don't charge for the upgrade when they figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Then I would do this:
Set the camcorder to 16-bit audio (leave it there forever). Share (export) your iMovie project back to the camcorder. I would then create a new iMovie project. Import the new tape into iMovie. Create a new iDVD project. Drag the iMovie project file into iDVD.
Then create a disk image, check it, burn to (Verbatim) DVD-R at 4X for a reliable burn.

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • TS4036 My iphone 4s cloud appears to work - I sign in and it verifies okay but tries tp access storage forever and ever.

My iphone 4s hasn't been backed up to icloud for many days. I sign in. my account is verified but it then attempts to access storage for ever and ever.  This is a very recent problem... has been working fine until this week. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

  • Completely Disable iMessage Forever and Ever and Always?

Ok, this is getting silly. iMessage has got to to be the most buggy system on the planet, right? Maps were bad, but unlike iMessage, at least maps got better.
I switched *back* to an iPhone (my technology ADD sent me through Android and Windows phones...but I love the iPhone so I'm home). And, of course, iMessage is dropping messages left and right for me. I've turned it off on my iPhone, but now people think they've sent me messages but they never show up, even as SMS. Typical iMessage nonsense that's been going on for years now.
Is there some way, a backdoor, a hack - ANYTHING - that allows me to instruct Apple Servers: HEY, I NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER WANT iMessage. Ever again. Just Go Away Forever. You're trying to be too smart, which makes you dumb and buggy! Send me SMS (I've got Telegram/WhatsApp/GoogleVoice accounts for wifi comms). THANKS!

    Thanks guys.
    Lots of good info here.
I know about turning the facebook app to wifi, etc. I'm more worried about the apps I normally don't think about, doing something unexpectedly crazy. Like some new game downloading/uploading a crap load of data because I forget to click a single button in the settings menu. That's why I keep cellular off unless I need it.
It's just disappointing that while it's off I can't get voice messages (due to iOS8's visual voice mail) or picture messages.
It seems strange that imessage can handle standard text over wifi but a picture over wifi is just too complicated. But whatever.

  • Some records stays in Event Polling Table forever and ever

I have configured Event Polling Table at Oracle BI. It works fine and the entry cache are purged. But some records stays in EPT table for ever. Records without misstat1 are inserted by me (trigger). Records with OTHER=misstat1 are inserted by BI Server. There is no delete or error statement in log file for this timestamp. Other timestamps are deleted by BI Server.

UpdateTime needs to be unique, but you can't put a unique constraint on it. As you probably know, the server will insert a nearly identical record (it will just put text in the OTHER field but everything else will be the same). Then it deletes both records. However, in your case it looks like there are some identical timestamps that are not just duplicates from the server's insert. If you make sure you don't have any identical timestamps in UpdateTime, I think it will work correctly if everything else is configured correctly.

  • Solo Safe Mode - How to Disable It Forever and Ever?

The little red line over the Solo button keeps reappearing, often without my notice, so when I go to bounce some other track, say, a kick, there's a ukelele, say, playing along. Is there some easy way to disable this "feature" of Logic Pro 8?

My apologies, one of the big problems with this forum is simply the very broad spectrum of user levels it covers. Those of us who've been using logic since days of yore are so familiar with the environment that it's just second nature to us. But in the last few releases Apple have been trying to minimise user interaction with it in order to make the program more user-friendly. I might add that I believe this to be a mistake as the environment is probably the most powerful MIDI programming tool of any DAW. But I digress.
The environment is an essential part of Logic's inner workings. Every track you work with on the arrange is assigned to an object in the environment. In the case of audio tracks they are assigned to audio objects. The channel strips you see in the mixer page are in fact slightly tweaked representations of these objects.
To access the environment, go to the window menu and select environment. It should by default come up with the mixer page. Each one of the channel strips in this window is an audio object. If you can't see one called 'prelisten' anywhere in the window then you need to create one. Select one of the audio objects by clicking on its label underneath (eg 'Audio 1'). Now hold down alt and drag it to an empty area to create a duplicate. With the duplicate still selected (it turns light grey) look in the inspector box on the left for a parameter called 'Channel'. Click to the right of this for the pull down menu. Select the submenu audio then scroll all the way down until you find audio 256. You have now created a new prelisten. But you will have to manually make it solo-safe now. Hold down control and click on the solo button.
I would also recommend you rename the new object as prelisten, by choosing the text tool from the toolbox in the upper right and clicking on the object label. Also I would suggest that with the object selected, you uncheck the box on the left next to the parameter 'icon'. This makes it impossible to access the object from the arrange window, which should prevent any accidental deletion in the future. I have no idea why apple didn't take this last step in the first place.
Hope that all made sense. Good luck with your first foray into the environment!

    Mitch,
How have things gone since your install? Also I'm puzzled as Fedora IS Red Hat, just a variant "flavor". It shouldn't cause the kind of problem that you related. Any news or dicoveries since then? I'm getting ready to install on my goDaddy server and it IS Fedora Core 10.

  • Audio Encoding Beachball

    Hello
I have read the posts about the lenght of the Audio Encoding process, and most suggest to be patient... However, is there a way to tell if the beachball means that it is really encoding and one must wait, or if the program has frozen.
The reason I ask is because I left it overnight and found it in the same place. When calling the force quit menu, iDVD appeared as 'not responding'. I had to force quit it.
This has happened twice already, but I'm not sure if iDVD a ctually stops responding by me calling up the force quit menu or not.
In other words.... how can I tell if the beach ball means 'still working on it' and therefore must leave it alone or if it means 'I´m stuck' and therefore one must force quit ans start again
    Thanks
    K

Can't find a way to tell....
There is no way to tell. My longest wait has been 30 minutes. Once it gets through the apparent "frozen stage" there is a progress bar that starts and runs a couple of minutes. But I haven't had any hours-long experiences like some people.
Some times, creating a new "stream" of data out of iMovie solves the problem.
You can Share your iMovie project back to a camcorder set to record 16-bit audio. Or you can Share to QuickTime Full Quality and use that file in a new iDVD project.

  • Audio Encoding and iTunes update

iTunes has just released an update. Maybe it will fix the audio encoding problem???

    Hi Milton
If you create an iMovie, e.g., 1 hour movie, and insert audio, such as music from iTunes, then take the project into iDVD, and then begin the "burn" process, it will take many hours to encode the audio
Not on every machine, not for everybody. This afternoon I finished 'assembling' a 102 minute iMovie project which included 3 music tracks imported in AIFF format via iTunes, and 13 chapters. I imported this into iDVD, picked a theme, and burnt it to disk image.
I burnt the disk image at 2x to DVD using Toast. The entire process (from saving the iMovie project to ejecting the DVD) took a little under four and a half hours.
Search the iDVD forum, you'll find lots of discussion on this audio encoding problem.
I don't need to search, I read all the threads, and I am mystified, and very sympathetic, to those people who have a really bad experience, like the guy who took 4 days to complete a project with music.
But I don't think we should generalise about how long these things take. We all have our own modus operandi. What works for you, works for you. What works for me works for me.
We should all try to find out what works for the others - or why it doesn't.

  • Audio Encoding Spinning Beachball

I have had the same problem for over a month now. As I am typing there is a spinning beachball going during the audio encoding process. What is a reasonable amount of time? I started to burn a DVD at noontime , it is now 7:00 pm and still spinning. The project is 48 minutes long with chapter markers, ten transitions, a slow motion clip, sound effects, and a song in the drop zone. I have even upgraded to 10.4.6, purchased Quicktime Pro 7.1.1 and reloaded the latest iLife update 6.02. I used to burn a DVD with the same content in about six hours before the update. I don't know what else to try other than a new Mac........ I even re-imported the original movie from my camera-but the same beachball is spinning!!! I have tried every solution that was offered in the discussion area but the beachball keeps spinning. I'm at my wits end-somebody please help. After twenty years with Apple, this is the first problem I have ever had-I hope they fix this bug soon..... I am ready to drink heavily.......Have easily spent a hundred hours trying to fix this problem....

I have tried every solution that was offered in the discussion area
Well then this is probably stuff you've heard before but here goes anyway -
Audio Encoding problems come in three flavors:
    1) Vanilla - This is the most common - the "freeze" when encoding audio is normal, you get a spinning beachball, and even when looking at activity monitor iDVD and its helpers are "not responding." Solution? WAIT....and WAIT some more, wait at least as long as it took to encode the video, and iDVD will still often produce a great DVD. I agree it shouldn't work this way, but that's the way it works.
    2) Chocolate - Still pretty common, but a bit more trouble. Often caused by 12 bit audio, iDVD needs 16 bit audio. Try "extracting audio" in iMovie or export and reimport to tape after setting the camcorder to 16 bit.
    3) Pistachio - much less common. Could be other problems with your audio, such as CBR MP3s or who knows what....this is sort of the catch-all for other audio issues. Again, try extracting audio and/or exporting your iMovie to full quality DV. Convert CBR MP3s to AAC format.
Check other things in your project against this list:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=2466511
What is a reasonable amount of time?
As I said above wait at least as long as it takes to encode the video. But if I were you, I'd wait overnight just to rule out waiting as a solution. Definitely look at that sound file you dropped into the iDVD menu, make sure it is not a CBR MP3, and that your CMs and transitions follow the rules in the link I provided. Make sure you are using "save as disk image" and have 20GB for free space..........
And since you do have transitions & special effects(slow mo) and sound effects, you might try exporting your iMovie back to your camera or to full quality DV. This will render all the sound and effects, and then you can re-import to iMovie, add chapters, and use that movie in iDVD. This simplifies iDVD's and QT's job during encoding.
I am ready to drink heavily
Well just skip the heavily part, and this is a good activity to do while waiting on the beachball.......

  • HT201210 I updated my 4s over 3g to ios 7.1 it took forever and said connect to itunes. It said it was in recovery mode & needed to be restored but would wipe all content. I have never made a backup and can't loose pics of my kids birth and birthdays...

So tonight I updated my 4s over 3g to ios 7.1 it took forever and said connect to itunes. It said it was in recovery mode & needed to be restored but would wipe all content. I have never made a backup because my computers hard drive crashed (luckily the pics were on the phone) and now after updating like apple said I should it wants me to wipe my phone... I can't loose pics of my kids births and birthdays... I tried the holding buttons and letting off to exit recovery mode with no success... I don't know what to do but I swear if apple makes me loose the priceless pics of my kids I will never buy any apple device ever again... and I will make sure no family or friend ever does either... there has to be a way somehow.. some data recovery some program... I dunno if tinyumbrella can exit it for me without hacking or jailbreaking (which I don't dare/want to do) but i need a solution. I have researched this for hours and hours with no solution so far. If I have to pay $$ for it fine I will but after I recover my data that way I will be going to samsung... anyone with a solution would be greatly appreciated... any solution...

that makes no sense... it was only doing an update... if that's the case it should have promted me to back up first if this is even possible... there is a program that says it can recovery anything that hasn't been written over yet.. so would this not work? http://www.iphone-data-recovery.com/iphone-data-recovery.html   or would the apple store be able to recover it??? i've done plenty of data recovery on computers... why wouldn't it be possible on an Iphone... does apple seriously not care about thier customers at all??? how about thier employees that are gonna get more than an earful tomorrow when I walk in there store??? No wonder samsung paid 2 million to apple in pennies when they got sued... (how does it feel to be screwed with apple?!)

  • I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

  • PP CC 2014 plays video fine from .mts files, but the audio is glitchy and jumpy.

    Premiere Pro CC 2014
    OSX 10.9.5
I have imported .MTS files from one Canon C100 into PP through the Media Browser. I kept the file structure intact from the camera when copying. When I play a file in the source or program monitor the video plays back perfectly; however, the audio is glitchy and jumpy. It will skip time, jumping forward and backward seemingly randomly. If I open the same clip in Quicktime 10, it plays back 100% normal. I have restarted, reimported, and even transcoded the files to Pro Res 422 using Media Encoder CC 14. Nothing fixed it. The audio glitches the same way in the transcoded Pro Res Files.
This is only the first of three cards of media. In total I have 120 .mts files in three separate AVCHD folders from a three camera C100 shoot. This leads to another issue I know I will run into. There will be three .mts files named "001," three named "002," etc. I have solved this issue in the past simply by transcoding, but that again failed to work for me thus far. So if I must stick with the .mts files, does anyone know a workflow for using multiple .mts files with the same name in one project/timeline?
    Thanks

I find it hard to believe that this fixes the root of the problem as the same files playback fine in CS6. CS6 and CC 2014 should be referencing the same codec library on my system, right? If this is the case, then there is something wrong with how CC14 is decompressing the footage with the codecs that are working fine in CS6.
To further this point. I imported the same files into CS6. CS6 played them back fine, so I saved the session and opened it up in CC14. CC14 converted the project file and all media loaded and plays back normal now.
So if this is a codec issue, it would not have been solved by opening the files first in CS6. It also would not be solved as so many others report by moving the files and relinking to the new folder. It seems to me to be an import issue that is solely in CC14, not CC or CS6.

  • Audio Encoding & Ken Burns Problems Persist - More Help Please.

My previous thread (10/27): Encoding Audio in iDVD for 41 hours. Is there any hope?
--72min iMovie, many high res photos, iTunes music, voiceovers, sound effects (20.9G)
    Since then:
I reimported Music Store songs from CD and tried iMovie to iDVD again , menu took 50min, video encoding took 4.5hrs, audio encoding went 12 hours till I force quit. (Should I have waited longer?)
I then was able to create a Quicktime Movie (Full Quality) in 36hrs, but the Ken Burns photos were so horrific (shimmering) that I decided to try creating a Disk Image. Is there any chance the results will be better? (Burn w/Toast6)
I also tried exporting iMovie to my JVC GR-DVP3 video camera. Only got colored checkerboard patterns.
If the Disk Image approach doesn't work, I'll be back at square one. Anything else I might try?

Wow, this sounds like a long time. Is this DV? Or
    H.264?
The extension is .dv What is H.264
Remember that iDVD will create standard resolution
video, even if you are feeding it HD material. So
use Export> Quicktime> Full Quality DV.
    I did.
The shimmering might improve once it is burned to
disk, but it might not. I also find it is different
on different players. PhotoToMovie does a better job
    than iMovie/iPhoto of avoiding shimmers.
I heard that, but it took me 2 weeks to make my movie and at present I can't bear the thought of redoing all my KB photos.
I also tried exporting iMovie to my JVC GR-DVP3
video camera. Only got colored checkerboard
    patterns
Check the iMovie forum for this one, but it sure
seems that something must not be hooked up right.
    Was it in VCR mode?
I have a post on the iMovie forum, iMovie recognized the camera and it recorded, but all I got was sporadic patterns. The manual shows DV to DV operations but no computer to DV. Maybe my camera isn't compatable.

  • I am importing a video and in iMovie the video is now white. the audio still plays and I can play the video properly outside of iMovie so any help is good?

I am importing a video and in iMovie the video is now white. the audio still plays and I can play the video properly outside of iMovie so any help is good?

I going to recommend again, downloading and installing some video helper applications.
    1. http://perian.org/ (this will add a number of different file types to the ones QuickTime already plays)
    2. http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac (will add more file types to what QuickTime can play)
Either one of these might be necessary to get MPEG Streamclip to export the video. Failing that the only other thing I have found is an obscurve discussion thread on Avid.com:
    http://duc.avid.com/archive/index.php/t-277791.html
I've figured out what the problem is on my end. The video came from Avid on a Windows machine and was encoded with Squeeze. I found out that the 2 seconds of black at the top of the video were at a different frame rate than the rest of the video. I chopped off the 2 seconds of black and started at the first frame of video, exported it with Quicktime Pro and was able successfully view the video in ProTools. Apparently Squeeze will let you create a movie file that has different frame rates within the same movie... This fixed my issue that was exactly as you describe, hopefully it might work for you.
Lastly, you could try converting the video clip using HandBrake

  • Solution to audio encoding problem achieved

I was using clips from my Sanyo Xacti Camcorder, imported into iMovie as mpeg 4 files and unable to finish the project in iDVD as the error would come in the audio encoding stage.A quick test is to export the iMovie files through Quicktime and it would stop cold, saying something is wrong with the file.
Going through the forum here, many had posted reasons is because iDVD cannot handle audio files with deviations from sampling rate of 48k, and somehow the audio files may work if it is converted to aiff , with sampling rate of 48k.I found a way to do it last night.
Export the imovie to GarageBand. When GarageBand finished the video track and sound track imports, adjust the volume of the sound track as desired.
Make sure the GarageBand preference to set export movie in full quality, not ipod or email quality. Then export the movie to disk, and the resulting Quicktime movie must have the original audio tracked enabled before it is used in iDVD. Check the Quicktime movie by quicktime player, and under movie property, you can check that enable box.
The finished product is a Quicktime movie that has both video and audio files that iDVD can handle and use.And it saves time in audio conversion by doing it in GarageBand first.

I was unable to export the imovie to quicktime, as the error message came within seconds , saying about something wrong with the file. The only way I could export the file to quicktime format is through GarageBand.
GarageBand is the application to add another sound track , and it preserves the whole imovie and could be exported directly to iDVD, instead of exporting to
Quicktime format first. The only reason I did this "extra" step was because I already knew if the Quicktime movie would not fail in iDVD, and it is quicker to check it this way then to wait 10 hours for iDVD time.
It was already recognized that iMovie does not do audio conversion, and when the audio files are not native to iDVD(i.e. 48 Hz sampling), the iDVD would crash.
