Audio Enhancements Probl

I am using Vista RC 32bit with an Audigy Platnium. Sound is working fine using the latest available drivers. My problem is with the new audio enhancements I've read about, such as Loudness Equalization.
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060907-7682.html
Will cover an example of this. When I initially go into the Playback Devices I get an error that states the following,
Audio Enhancements Problem
Windows has detected that audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems:
Speakers (Creative SB Audigy)
Would you like to disable Driver Enhancements for this device?
Yes No
If I click yes, this never comes back. If I click no, it says this each time I open this dialog. My problem is that I do not get the "Enhancements" tab in the speakers properties. Is anyone else having this problem? An old do-nothing USB sound card I have laying around even worked properly with this. Anyone have any ideas?

  • X-Fi Platinum Audio Enhancement probl

I purhcased an X-Fi Platinum about a year ago, and so far I'm extremely pleased with the card. I'd never experienced the infamous "crackling and popping" that everyone complained about, and aside from the fact that it distorted my midis when using large soundfonts, everything was golden.
I just downloaded the latest (november) driver update, after having been running the update from around August/September. Happily, it fixed all my midi distortion problems. But it brought up a new, and rather odd problem.
When playing FEAR, I began to notice a strange sound anomaly -- at random times for seemingly no reason, the sound would begin to crackle and fade out into silence. Firing a weapon, hitting something, or doing just about anything else to play a sound would instantly bring the sound back to normal, only to have it begin crackling and fading again within a few seconds.
As it turned out, turning off the CMSS-3D enhancement fixed that. But that was disappointing, as it was my favorite feature of the card by far. In my desperate search for some way around this, I tried disabling the Crystalizer -- and to my surprise that worked as well. To clarify: It works fine with either the CMSS-3D or the Crystalizer, but not both in tandem. This also only applies to headphones, though of course CMSS-3D Headphone isn't acti've in speaker mode, which fits my current running theory.
So apparently something that changed between those two driver updates made it so that those two enhancements can't interact? I haven't had time to try this with any other games, though I'll get on it as soon as I can -- in the meantime, does anyone have any idea what this could be?

    Hello.
I have the same problem... sort of...
I've got this sound card... the Platinum and the S750 Speakers... In games it's Ok (and by ok I mean that I didn't notice anything strange) but when listening to music I get the same fade effect... especially with the voice. If I turn the Crystalizer option off... I might as well get back to my 5. onboard sound card and use the CMSS-3D Upmix from my speakers... If I turn the CMSS-3D option off oh well... My music just like everyone elses is in Stereo... so stereo on 7. = 2. and if this happens I might as well get back to my 2.0 system.
The main problem is when the crystalizer & the CMSS-3D work toghether... this results that weird fade effect... someone please help.
    0X in advance!

  • Poor performing audio enhancements W510

I was hoping that a recent audio driver update would eventually resolve this issue, but it's been 9 months now and I still have not gotten any resolution to this driver issue.
The Problem: I have poorly performing audio while the sound card audio enhancements are enabled but not forcibly enabled, that is, absolutely no checkboxes are checked under the "Enhancements" tab of the sound card properties.  DirectX-based audio sources becomes soft or alternates softness between left and right speakers (or headphones) for audio sources that do not have directional properties.  This is most noticeable when background music is playing in a video game.  Eventually, the audio becomes inaudible or does not work at all.
The Workaround: While the game is still running, I can switch into the audio properties, disable audio enhancements using the "Disable all enhancements" checkbox.  After switching back to the game and re-configuring the audio device, the issue goes away for good until for whatever reason Windows forgets and removes the checkbox at a later boot and the problem returns.  This is the same for other DirectX software like FL Studio (a DAW), so it's not limited to one program, but it does present itself in video games more often because they're more likely to use the audio enhancements.
My laptop speakers work fine and my headphones work fine and there is not wiring issue.  This seems to be entirely the fault of the sound enhancement features of the sound card.  I have not had problems like those exhibited by other users who complain about the left speaker going dead.

This was a great help! Thanks for the tip! It worked perfectly for me.

  • Fix for crash in After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 when Joesoft Hear audio enhancer installed

After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 both can crash due to a conflict with the Joesoft Hear audio enhancer.
We've just gotten confirmation from Joesoft that they've released a beta version of Hear that doesn't conflict with After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5. We're recommending that our customers who also use Hear install the 1.0.5b2 (build 490) beta version of Hear.
Let us know on this forum thread whether this solution works for you. We on the After Effects and Premiere Pro teams will monitor this thread for feedback, and we'll make sure that the folks at Joesoft get the information that they need, too.
When reporting back, be sure to let us know whether you've installed the Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.2) update and After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update.

After 2 days trying to get AE and Premiere past the mediacore initialization message, I finally stumbled on this little message.  Updating Hear definitely solves the problem!

I just purchased my firt MacBook and am having some trouble running Adobe. I'm trying to view an enhanced video presentation using Adobe Flash Player. I can see the slideshow, but the audio is missing. I've downloaded a recent flash player and reader but I get nothing. Any ideas?

If your computer is running Snow Leopard, and is not at 10.6.8, you could use
Software Update to get final Combo Update 10.6.8 v. 1.1 for Snow Leopard.
Aside from that (you may have already done so) here is a free-running
application that may help your line-in audio, by the name of LineIn
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/ and it suggests possibilities.
There also are USB input methods using those for audio; not sure what
is still available, a few great ones no longer were. One from Belkin a few
years ago, called the iMic, offered great options over USB.
Hopefully the free application can help.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • X-Fi XtremeMusic installation, Audio Console probl

Shortly after learning I'd been fooled into buying a rebranded Audigy card instead of a real X-Fi, I picked up an X-Fi XtremeMusic online. Immediately after installing it the problems hit me from every direction. The PCI slot I had installed it in absolutely refused to recognize it - and this was the exact same slot my previous "Xtreme Audio" had occupied! Regardless, I switched up the PCI slot after reading dozens of forum posts both here and elsewhere and found that my card was immediately seen by the system... or so I thought. When I tried again to install the software, I was hit with the exact same error message as before "Setup is unable to detect a supported device on your system." Back again to the forums. After learning more, I wondered if it would be a driver issue, and found the Web Update 4. I installed this, and lo and behold I got sound and an incredibly basic version of the Audio Console. No nice graphics (think Win98 style), no graphic equalizer, just a series of mundane, and to be honest, quite useless tabs like something straight out of the system device manager. I thought I might be able to get back the Audio Console like I had with the NotX-Fi I was running before by attempting to use the installation disc again, and I was hit with the Exact. Same. Error.
How is it possible for me to have the surround sound and other features from my card without being able to complete an installation from the disc? How is my system not aware of the X-Fi when I'm clearly getting good sound out of it's Lastly, does anyone know if I can get the -real- version of the X-Fi XtremeMusic Audio Console instead of the pitiful tab based garbage I'm stuck with at the moment? Thanks in advance.

I am having a similar problem, I replaced my audigy 2 platinum card with the xfi extrememusic but now I try to open "audio console" but get a message stating audio device supported by this application is not detected. Any ideas on a fix? System specs follow

  • Zen Micro Audio Jack Probl

Second time it happens to me, the audio jack loosens itself and audio quality goes down the toilet and the sound starts to distort and stuff. on top of that the alarm function is screwed up. I have it set to off during the weekdna nd suddenly it turns on and blasts music from my speakers I always leave it connected it to at 6am in the morning, so I turn it ON and it doesn't ring the next day. I tried reloading the firmware, now it doesn't work at all. I treat my Zen real gently too, always make sure it's in it's hard cover case and that the earbuds are properly stored (for some reason the earbuds blew also although I never put it higher then vol. level 6) and I always update it. So now I'm thinking of trading it in for the Zen MicroPhoto since they're the same price (Pre-Ordered my Zen for Christmas last year and got it for 250$ with all the accessories and Xtra battery and all).

I have seen the audio jack on my Zen Xtra (took it all apart), and it's a real mess engineering-wise. The contacts are tiny, minimize contact with the plug, and are too easily warped or bent out of proper alignment. I doubt I could wire in a better unit owing to the extreme small space. The one good thing I can say is that the leads are gold-plated, and the unit is fairly robustly attached to the circuitboard.
Cleaning your plug carefully with an industry-recommended cleaning solution (like spraywash or super-wash) will improve your plug's connectivity. Wiping the plug with WD-40 or a similar chemical lubricant will improve connectivity (use sparingly... the creosote base hardens and turns to wax). A modified Q-tip can be used to remove residue from the inside of the jack, but BE CAREFUL! If you bend the leads you are SOL. Using earphones with a gold-plated plug will also improve the connection.
Many users regard the bent-style earphone plug to be the best design, but my own experience suggests this is different for each user. Try a straight and a bent-style plug and see which you prefer. Above all avoid putting unreasonable stress on the plug and jack.

    Hello all,

My problem is that when I play the game "Call of Duty 4" the sound card isn't recognized on it. But on "Call of Duty 2" and "Call of Duty " the Sound card is named in the Sound settings and it is much more of a improvement rather than just the Windows Default sound I have to use on Call of Duty 4.
Is there anyway I can fix this? If there is, please tell me how

As stated in my post in this thread, I get this whenever I have my Logitech QuickCam Orb plugged in, and I would imagine that it also occurs with other USB sound devices and possibly Bluetooth devices. As soon as I unplug the camera, I no longer have to disable the driver enhancements. • Phone Tap Audio Enhancement

    Hello
I suspect that my phone is tapped using the pizeoelectric buzzer.
More on how this is done is discussed here:
    https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2010/01/eavesdropping_i.html
There's so much noise on this audio that I can't filter it out. A series of filtering and then amplifying and I can vaguely hear the audio.
The tapped phone audio is here:
    https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B5ingIYMt2rmZVRJSUQwZi1wRWc
And the target audio is here:
    https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B5ingIYMt2rmVy16emVzdXRNcHc
The first ten seconds of the phone audio, I tried to keep the room silent. At ten seconds I began playing the target audio.
Can anyone help me extract the target audio from the phone tap recording?
    Many thanks!

    Hello Steve
Thank you for taking a look.
I think I may have mixed up the files or something.
I'll upload another file in four hours when I get home.
I'm convinced my telephone is compromised and leaks audio down the line.
This method is well known by the intelligence community.
I'm not an audio expert but can software like Audacity and Audition do the work of High-Gain Audio Amplifier?
The Marty Kaiser amplifier was used to amplify and filter out noise from telephones where the ringer was used as a microphone.
Read the comment by Kevin D. Murray at
    https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2010/01/eavesdropping_i.html
    I quote:
    "Hook a high-gain audio amplifier.....You'll believe."
    There's another interesting discussion here:
    http://yarchive.net/phone/infinity_transmitter.html
    I quote:
There is actually another methodology which can be applied to
eavesdropping on room conversations using an unmodified telephone set.
Most ringers will function as a variable reluctance microphone, if the
line from the telephone is amplified to an extreme degree, along with
application of suitable signal processing to eliminate an incredible
amount of noise. As in the above methods, the necessary apparatus
must be within a few hundred feet from the telephone set, and the CO
pair must be broken during the operation (with circuitry to detect an
incoming call or outgoing call attempt and reestablish the CO line
continuity to avoid any suspicion on the part of the subject). I am
not claiming that a ringer is a *good* microphone, but under some
selected circumstances this technique can provide useful intelligence.
I may later regret this suggestion, but as an example to
illustrate this principle, here is an experiment that an enterprising
reader can perform using apparatus found in any well-equipped
electronics laboratory. Take a 500-type or 2500-type set with a
bridged ringer and connect its tip and ring directly to the input of a
low-noise amplifier providing say, 80 dB of gain in the voice
frequency range. A suggested approach is to cascade two
Hewlett-Packard 465A amplifiers, with each amplifier being set for 40
dB gain. Take the 80 dB amplifier output and connect it to the input
of a variable bandpass filter having at least 20 db/octave attenuation
    (like a Kron-Hite 3100, 3500 or 3700). Take the output from the
bandpass filter and feed it to another amplifier providing 20 to 40 dB
gain and capable of driving a pair of headphones.
Tune the bandpass filter to reject powerline noise, and you have just
turned the telephone set into a crude microphone. At that point it
does not take much imagination to realize that given some competent
engineering resources and a commensurate budget, this technique can be
refined into a practicable eavesdropping device. The availability of
digital signal processing can also do wonders to eliminate the vast
amount of power line, impulse noise and other interference which
develops at the gain necessary for speech pickup sensitivity.
While electromechanical ringers are becoming somewhat a thing
of the past, many electronic telephone sets with tone ringers will
function as an even better microphone. Such tone ringers usually rely
upon a piezoelectric element as the loudspeaker, although a few
    low-quality "drugstore-variety" one-piece telephones utilize the
receiver element as the ringer transducer. As most readers of this
forum are no doubt aware, piezoelectric devices will generally
function as both a microphone and loudspeaker. Even a piezoelectric
element optimized for tone ringer use, i.e., with resonance in the
range of 1.5 to 2.5 kHz, will still function as a usable microphone
    for lower frequencies.
An on-hook telephone set with electronic tone ringer, if
isolated from the CO line and connected to an ultra-high gain
amplifier with suitable bandpass filtering, and if also subjected to
an appropriate RF bias to cause conduction across the initial
full-wave bridge rectifier and subsequent semiconductor junctions, can
in many instances be turned into a microphone. While this technique
will not work with all electronic telephones, it will work with a
    significant number.
The above technique of compromising a telephone with an
electronic tone ringer was first performed almost twenty years ago on
the Ericophone. The Ericophone was an early one-piece telephone, some
models of which contained an electronic tone ringer. While the
geometry of the Ericophone defies verbal description in this forum,
the overall design scheme may best be described as phallic in nature.
Those readers who are familiar with the Ericophone will no doubt
    concur with this description :-)."

  • Is there a way to remove only parts of audio in a clip (remove music but keep voiceover)

I've been given a promotional video to edit, with a voiceover and background music. The file I have is an MP4 file, and I do not have the separate pieces of the file (Video, audio, and music).
Is there a way to remove the music but keep the voiceover? I doubt there is..
    Thanks

If the voiceover is in a narrow range of frequencies you might get lucky. You can use the Graphic Equalizer to reduce the volume of all frequencies except those that the voice is using. There may still be some music in these frequencies as well, but it is worth a try.
Select your clip and open the inspector to the Audio Tab. Under Audio Enhancements, you will see the word "Equalization". Over to the right you will see a small icon of a graphic equalizer. Click this and it will open the Graphic Equalizer.
That will bring up the Graphic Equalizer window. You can set the Graphic Equalizer to display 10 bands of frequencies or 31 bands. Choosing 31 bands will give you more control.
There are probably many other things you could try, since you have access to all the Logic Pro X synthesizers in FCPX, but that is the most straightforward.

  • Windows 7 full-system crash with Flash 10 audio

I upgraded from xp home to 7 pro, and now find the computer crashing (freezing) in Windows 7, either Firefox or IE8, when using Flash to play audio. Video is OK (with hardware acceleration turned off).  All audio enhancements are turned off.  Granted, this is an old computer, but the same version of Flash in the same versions of Firefox and IE work fine on the same hardware in XP.
Problem OS is Windows 7 Pro, up to date on patches including drivers, 32-bit
    Firefox 4.0.1 or IE 8
    Flash WIN 10,3,181,14
    Hardware summary:
    Pentium D 945
    2G RAM
2 500G hard drives (one PATA with the old XP system; one SATA with Windows 7 clean install upgrade; dual-boot as installed by Windows 7)
    Visiontek ATI X1300 video
    Motherboard Realtek audio
Bottom-fisher DSL (1.5 down) Internet connection
The freeze is guaranteed when listening to Pipedreams audio (for instance: http://pipedreams.publicradio.org/www_publicradio/tools/media_player/popup.php?name=pipedr eams/2011/05/16_pipedreams_128&starttime=00:00:00&endtime=00:59:07). If other network activity uses a lot of bandwidth (large pictures, etc.) the crash happens sooner, but even if completely left alone it will crash before a 1-hour program segment is finished.
Youtube works fine.  BBC iPlayer works fine.  Capital Public Radio web stream works fine.  All use Flash.
Sometimes (but not always) blue-screen type errors will be logged on restart (hard reset - power switch or reset button - is needed).  The most common are processor timer errors, with very occasional bus errors instead.  However, a blue screen never appears; the system just freezes.
There are a couple of similar topics from 2010, but neither that I found in the search was quite the same (involved video as well as audio), and both seemed to be helped by disabling hardware acceleration and audio enhancements -- that doesn't work for me.  Any other ideas?  Note again: this does not happen on the same hardware running XP Home (fully patched) with the same versions of Firefox, IE, and Flash.

BSOD's are never good. They point to a problem much bigger and deeper than any software issues.
When XP came out eleven years ago, people were astonished at how much processor it took to handle the GUI vs Windows 98. Processors an RAM have upgraded a lot since then. It was worse with VIsta, even on newer systems. Seven was a step in the right direction, but I'd guess that your old computer (your words, not mine) isn't up to the task of running Windows 7.

  • HELP!! Audio Out of Sync in Anamorphic Capture... Any Help Appreciated

I've been having problems with the audio drifting when I capture anamorphic footage for longer than 10 minute segments. I've captured 4:3 NTSC DV tape to see if it was my GL2 and I also hooked up my camera to a monitor to playback the tape but the audio was in sync all the way through for both tests. Only capturing the anamorphic footage results in audio drifts regardless of any capture settings.

I am fairly new to iDVD 6 and iMovie HD (widescreen), but I an currently assembling a highlight DVD for my daughter's softball team. We are in mid season. I had been creating separate movies (per game). I extracted audio and/or added sound and video effects to some of the movies clips. Alas not only do the extracted (original audio) and added audio (outdoor cheer) disappear but also the video special effects (slow motion) are not maintained in widescreen but are pillarboxed when copied/pasted.
At any rate, I am have now created a compilation iMovie and will be dumping new footage into it as we go. Editing the compilation, as well as editing separate "save as" individual game movies.
I only had 2-3 clips that had been audio manipulated and shared those back to my video camera and then reimported from camera back to the compilation project. The extracted audio with separate tracks are now a single audio clip but at least I have audio during those clips.
To end this ramble, knowing the limitations of messing with audio and trying to cut and paste to different movies I will now create duplicate movies with a master having no audio enhancements.

    Thanks, Len
I hadn't thought about this option. It seems like a
lot of work. I wish there was an easier way. I have
archived ("Shared" to full dv quality) to DVD-ROM
discs all the raw .dv clips AFTER extracting the
audio, hoping that I could use these clips to
assemble custom DVD-Videos in the future, without
having to "Extract Audio" a second time. The .dv
clips all play perfectly with the audio synced in
Quicktime. Of course, the clip's audio was in sync
before the "Extract Audio" was applied. This sync
problem ONLY rears it's ugly head with iDVD Video
discs (don't know about DVD Pro). Thanks again for
    the suggestion.

  • Creative media source-How to apply audio cleanup permanant

I have some older blues in mp3 format that I have downloaded and some that I have ripped from cd. They have alot of hissing and "noise" in the background, when in creative media source organizer, I use audio clean-up button to get rid of hissing and noise, but if I want to burn those songs to cd, how do I apply the audio clean up to the file.
Also It mentioned in all of the advertising that you can "super rip" your audio cd's, which I have done, but it also says you can permanantly change your whole music "library" into better quality (I am assuming using crystalizer), but how do I permanantly apply these settings to the music files on my hard dri've. Does any one know how to do this, or if there are any good "links" or tutorials I should look at, thanks in advance for replys.

No, you cannot apply audio clean up permanently to the files. Audio clean up is a unique feature of MediaSource's playback. The noise will be removed by MediaSource before MediaSource plays the audio. However, the physical file is not changed at all. One trick you can use is to record What U Hear while playing the files with clean up enabled. This way, you can record the clean audio.
SuperRip's audio enhancement cannot be applied permanently to your existing files. You can use the same trick of recording What U Hear.

  • FCPX Makes Audio Sound "Tinny"

I have an absolutely bizarre problem: FCPX seems to be applying a "tin" sound to my audio file. Please find two audio samples at these links. The FCPX version is the clip in my event browser, with no effects or Audio Enhancements applied. The second is the clip in the Finder, to which the Event Browser is linking.
    FCPX version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13895316/FCPXversion.m4a
    Original version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13895316/Original.m4a
Once I apply an EQ to the FCPX version, the tin sound is impossible to ignore. I tried relinking, to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas for how to fix this?

Problem solved! For some reason, "Preserve Pitch" got selected in the retime editor. I had not even applied a speed change (See screenshot below). Pressing "Reset Speed" disables "Preserve Pitch", and the audio clip sounds normal again.
