Audio fade issue

I have a soundtrack in a project and I need to fade it in and out at two points. When I rendered out a test clip I could still here the track in the places where the audio is panned to zero (-48db). It is very faint but loud enough to hear under the music. Any fix. Thanks.

What Rick said. You may have a duplicate track in a pre-comp somewhere that you used as reference. And Rick again has a point in doing this in an audio app. You could e.g. open your clip via Dynamic Link in Soundbooth/ Audion or Premiere and do your audio mixing there.

  • Quick Look Audio Fade-in

    Hello,
i am that complete lagger who used 10.6.8 for few years for working with audio and music production. Somehow i decided to upgrade to new osx for new logic and some user features, but there is one little thing that still keeps me off new os x.
Back in 10.6 when you quick look an audio file it plays just "as is"- without any fade ins and fade outs. If sound starts instantly inside audio file- it will play instantly. This helps me a lot while making music- i just use Finder quickly to find right sound and drag and drop it into Logic. This is my typical workflow- press space and use up and down buttons to find right sample.
In Lion, ML and now in Mavericks that feature was changed. When you quick look audio file it will play it normally the first time, but when you play it second time (you didnt hear if this fiel sound right and you replay it) it cuts the very first part of the sound- it creates very fast fade in which affects the sound. It looses first click (wich may be very important). Sometimes i cant really hear if sound starts instantly or with fade within sample.
This is probably more a feature than bug, but this still doesent helps me at all.
The question is how to disable that quick look audio fade in? I really dont need it and dont want it.
I tried to replace 10.9 quick look audio plugin with same file from 10.6, but that didnt worked.

    Anton Demkin

If this is the case Then there must be some switch somewhere in the bowels of the project data that can be thrown. Once again i am appalled at how little information is available to power users and apple should be ashamed of it self. THese damned programs do not work as advertised when pushed and they display anomalies that keep the forums full but nothing else. I had this problem and had to export the whole movie as is and then reimport it in order to over come the INVERSE DUCKING feature so prominently in fashion these days. I will be trying now to see how this works ... again.
PS none of my issues with inverse ducking matched what you did to solve yours -- My project had been completed and now someone wanted tweaks so when i went in to make the tweaks- that is what i found . Sort of like magical apperance of unnamed temporary files amongst other things.

  • Weird fade issue.

I am new to Logic and am still getting used to it, but already I think it is a hundred times better than Pro Tools. That being said, I have found one issue that is a deal-breaker for me: the fades. No matter what region I apply a fade out to, they sound terrible. I've noticed it mainly on guitar regions that were recorded with a direct input and modified with amp designer. For example, I'll apply a fade out to a heavily distorted guitar part as the notes are ringing out. When I play it back, however, the fade is choppy and doesn't gradually fade out. The guitar gets quieter, but the hissing of the distorted amp remains at normal volume until the end of the phrase, where it simply just cuts off. Now I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but this fade issue is driving me crazy! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually it makes sense that you'd be getting weird noise trailing out on the fades if you're using a guitar amp effect as an insert on the track. There's nothing wrong with the fade itself.. it's the fact that in lowering the level progressively into the guitar amp plug in (which is what is happening, having put a fade out on the audio), the amp plug in is simply reacting to a signal that is fading to nothing and so obviously the tail of the sound gets strange and you hear noise. The same thing would happen if you plugged a guitar into an amp and played a chord, then turned the output volume of the guitar itself down to nothing (which you can't actually do on guitars but you get my point).. the amp noise would become more and more apparent as the audio input to it faded out.
The best solution here is to either bounce the guitar tracks with the effects, so then when you do a fade, you fade everything. Or alternatively, you could put the guitar amp effect on a buss instead of on an insert, that way you can do your usual audio fades to the regions, and also control the output of what the amp effect is doing separately by automating it.
As far as region fades on audio in Logic are concerned, they work just fine, although I think the way it's implemented is still a bit less practical to use than in ProTools. You just need to keep in mind that if there are insert fx on the track in question, then you aren't actually fading them at all - just the audio that's feeding into them.

    Hi lisacillustrate,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having issues with the trim or fade in on audio clips in iMovie, you may find some of the information in the following articles helpful:

  • Why does embedded video cause audio sync issues?

    Greetings all,
I have a question that is perhaps best answered by an Adobe developer or someone who knows the SWF file format and various audio/video standards fairly well. When one drags an FLV file into the library in flash authoring tool, a window appears. If you click "Embed FLV in SWF and play on timeline", an awful message appears, "WARNING: Embedded video is likely to cause audio synchronization issues...". My question is: why would there be any audio synchronization issue? Is this really just a bug/unimplemented feature? Or is there some fundamental shortcoming of current versions of the SWF file format that does not allow for the FLV audio/video signals to be properly encoded in the SWF file? Or is it that the flash player plays SWF and FLV data in fundamentally different ways and that even if the audio/video is perfected sync'd in the SWF file, the fact that it's a SWF file causes flash player to lose sync?
I'm guessing only a Flash developer could answer this (and probably not just any Flash developer!), so if there are any out there, please spare some wisdom for a poor lost SWF surfer.
       Thanks!

    Hi:
    Welcome to discussions!
From what I am reading, you are trying to use the audio that was in the original video-right? By that, I mean, you haven't added a voice over or music-just using the speaker's voice on the tape.
If so, you might want to try using something like a Fade Out or Fade In instead of one of the transitions that add or subtract to the length of the video
    [Quoted from iMovie Help]
Some transitions (for example, Cross Dissolve and Push) shorten your movie by a few seconds, depending on the speed of the transition. For example, if you add a transition with a speed of 2 seconds, iMovie overlaps 2 seconds from the first clip and 2 seconds from the second clip as it renders the transition. This shortens your movie by a total of 2 seconds.
The Overlap transition freezes the last frame of the clip on its left and superimposes it over the next clip. Fade In/Fade Out blackens the last frames of the clip on the left and the first frames of the following clip.
    [End quote]
Or you could try extracting the audio from the movie so that you could edit it and sync it that way.

  • Non curved audio fades

    Hi
I would like to use keyframes on the timeline to adjust audio levels with out the fade ramping in Final Cut Pro 7. With other editing software I have always been able to do this, but when I put a fade in using key frames, the line in between the two keyframes always curves and gives that 'ramping' effect.
Does anyone know how to make it just change with a straight line instead of curving like it automaticaly does?
    Thanks

How are you doing what you refer to as "Complex Fades Work"?
I am not aware of any hardware acceleration control in any Premiere Elements options related

Please review the following related to the Fades shortcuts and see if any of it applies to your

Is your issue specific to one particular project? Is this a "it worked before but not now" or "it never
worked before" type matter? Pending further details, we might consider deleting the Adobe

My project displays fine in PE8. No audio synch issues in the preview. After outputting the project to a quicktime movie withe LAN setting the audio becomes seems to run faster than the video, becoming more and more out of synch as the movie plays. Any ideas what might cause such an issue?

  • 10.4.10 Audio Popping Issues: Information Check with Internal Speakers

For people with internal speakers, or those without subwoofers: Please read all the way to the bottom to find a test that will determine whether you are also having audio problems, even if you can't hear pops.
We've had a lot of discussion about audio popping due to 10.4.10, and the evidence indicates that the audio circuitry is going to sleep to conserve power, even on AC-only computers like the iMac, Mac Mini, and (at least one) Mac Pro. Some people claim to not have this problem, but I'm wondering if they just aren't noticing it.
Having external speakers with a subwoofer, set to high amplification, are key to obvious detection of the problem. Let the sound subsystem go idle for 30+ seconds (wait a minute with no audio, just to be safe), turn up your external speakers really loud, and cause the computer to make a sound. You should hear a burst before the sound plays. If you repeat the sound, you won't hear the burst. This is the sound of the audio circuitry powering on, and the speakers are amplifying it.
About 30 seconds after the sound finishes playing, if you leave the volume of your speakers turned way up, you should hear a "pop" as the circuitry is powered off. Then, playing another sound will recreate the burst.
I haven't been able to hear these sounds with internal speakers, either on the Mini or iMac. But the problem still exists, and it is detectable... if you know what you are looking for.
The burst of the audio circuitry turning on also causes a delay in the audio. The delay is a noticeable fraction of a second, an it can easily be detected if you have a repeatable source of sound. I like Terminal.app, because I use that application all day, every day. Here is how you can check to see if you are also subject to the audio problems:
    1. Start Terminal.app (in the /Applications/Utilities directory).
    2. Wait one minute for the audio circuitry to shut down.
    3. Without typing anything else, very quickly strike and release the Backspace key.
    4. If you pressed the key all the way, the program should have caused a beep. However, if the audio circuitry goes to sleep, the beep should occur after you have moved your hand off the key. This is because the circuitry takes time to power itself on before playing the sound.
    5. Now, quickly strike the Backspace key again. You should notice that the sound is produced immediately as you hit the key, without the delay you just witnessed.
    6. Strike the Backspace key repeatedly, to confirm that there is no audio delay. Do this about once every second or two. If you press the key too rapidly, not all of the presses will produce sounds... this behavior is not related to the issue we are testing.
    7. Wait another minute for the audio circuitry to shut down, and strike the Backspace key once more. You should again observe a delay between your strike and the sound production.
If you witness delays like this, your audio circuitry is also going to sleep, and you are having the same audio problems as the rest of us. However, either because you are using internal speakers, or because your external speakers don't have the appropriate response, you aren't hearing the same bursts and pops as the rest of us.
Please try this test, and report here. I want to build a list of people who previously couldn't hear the sounds, but still have the delay. This might give us a better picture of the scope of the problem.

Re: 10.4.10 Audio Popping Issues: Information Check with Internal Speakers
Your analysis of what is happening is right on.
The problem on my Intel Mac mini with external Klipsch speakers (two mid-range/high and a subwoofer) is REAL obvious as the system emits a hum like a Spinal Tap amplifier turned up to #11 when 10.4.10 powers down the audio circuitry
Then, if I play a song in iTunes, it first pops and the hum disappears right before playing.
    Quite annoying.
Here's what I sent to Apple tech support:
    Guys/Gals (OS X Engineers):
Concerning the Snap, Crackle Pop Audio problem in the 10.4.10 update:
Please. Just do the right thing and fix the audio.
There is no need to power cycle the audio subsystem to save .0005 amps on your laptops.
And then to make your Mac mini/iMac/other desktop users have to put up with it when using AC power is ridiculous.
Put the audio subsystem back like it was in 10.4.9 and let the laptop battery freaks looking for mini-amp savings get a "work-a-round".

  • Playback pauses and audio sync issues with live video stream

I'm seeing playback pauses about every three seconds and audio sync issues with our live demo stream when using the OSMF/Strobe player.  It happens on both our 2Mbps 720p stream and our 480p 750Kbps stream so it does not seem to be related to higher resolution/bandwidth streams.  It also happens if I point directly to a stream asset or if I point to a .f4v with both streams listed for dynamic so it does not seem to be related to dynamic streaming specifically.
The same live streams play back very well without pauses or audio sync issues in the Akamai's dynamic player and even slightly better with JW 5.2.
I have viewed the OSMF/Strobe playback on three different laptops of various age (3 months to 2 years) and two are Windows and one is Linux.  I have also tried the various buffering options on the Flash Media Player Setup and Strobe setup and it has not made a noticeable difference.
To see the stream with the Akamai player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com
To see the stream with the OSMF/Strobe player, go to:  http://live.kulabyte.com/osmf
I do not have JW set up for public viewing yet, but the two above show the distinct difference.
We are really hoping to start pointing our customers towards the OSMF player because of the support provided by the community and Adobe, but we have to get the quality of the playback to be acceptable first.
If someone has ideas on debugging I can PM the actual video assets to you.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • Flv audio sync issues & player 9

Greetings, I've been looking for a solution for weeks, and
thought I'd give the forums a shot.
I have a client site with 6 progressively downloaded flv
clips that play when a button is clicked.
The flv files are encoded with After Effects 6.5, and the swf
files are published in Player 8.
The video clips are made with an alpha channel of a guy
talking and are about 30 sec to 1 minute long each.
The problem is audio sync issues on certain computers during
playback even when the files are completely buffered.
The other problem is that these flv files won't play on
computers that have player 9 loaded.
I'm investigating whether there are audio sync issues when
encoding flv files from AE 6.5, but still really
confused about the player 9 issue. I was wondering if there
are updates to 9 I can recommend to my client
or if adobe knows of any bugs that are currently being looked
    into.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I may just be talking to myself here, but...
Could there be any difference in the way an flv plays when
    you
import the flv to the stage, as opposed to playing it
    dynamically
using the NetStream class? Could this cause any audio sync
issues? Does Flash Player 9 have any difficulties displaying
    flv files loaded dynamically?
Any ideas from Adobe folks would be great. Thanks.

  • Quicktime audio sync issues

    Hello,
I have quicktime version 10 (128).   I can't get anything to play in it without there being severe audio sync issues every time.  I can't figure out why.  Can someone please help me fix this problem?
When I export my movies from imovie to quicktime it will play in quicktime, properly and without sync issues, for a really short period of time - seconds.  But after that, the audio no longer matches the video.   I know it's an issue in QT because when I upload the video to YouTube there are no audio sync issues whatsoever.
    Help?
    Thank you so much,
    YahYah

I am dissapointed to see that no one has addressed this issue. I have similar issues.
The MP4's play perfectly in the quicktime player but in Premiere they are off by varying degrees sometimes up to a minute even. I had similar problems in the past with files from the same producer. However last time I was able to  change the extension before importing and then sync them up manually on the timeline. It worked everytime. This time however when I change the extension Premiere brings it in as an audio only file.

  • Longer than 5s audio fades

Is it possible to make an audio track (for instance, the background music imported from itunes) fade in or out very slowly, say over a period of 10 or 20 seconds? I find that a 5 second fade out is sometimes a bit abrupt.
On most other video editing suites I have used, I could manually adjust the audio levels on the timeline, usually by dragging the line down. This seems not to be possible in imovie 09. This is a major weakness, in my view.

set the first to manually fade from 100& to 80%, the next fro 80% to 60%, etc.
Not quite sure what you mean here AppleMan. The audio fade feature only allows adjustments in seconds, not by percentage, with a maximum fade of 5 seconds. You may be thinking of the Ducking feature which allows lowering of other tracks by percent, but this will apply the ducking to the whole portion - not progressively as in "fade out" or "fade in".
Or am I missing something here?
