Audio failure on Solaris

Is there a known issue with audio on a Solaris SGD server? I've configured two similar setups, and audio works on the 32-bit Pentium system and not on the Sun X4200 system. In both cases, the application server is the SGD server. I've run through the debugging suggestions and attempted to find differences in the two SGD installations. Of course, one uses a 32-bit kernel and the other is 64-bit.
The tests I'm running are simple "cat > $AUDIODEV" and tests with realplay. The environment vars in both cases point to SGD entries, and modinfo shows the sgd entry, etc. It is as if the audio device is /dev/null. Multiple clients were tested.
Versions: Solaris 10/08 on the system that doesn't work, 5/08 on the system
that works. SGD 4.5. Both systems are Ray servers, and both were rebooted since installation of SGD and the enhancement module.

Do you have Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.

  • Porting Solaris 7 audio driver to Solaris 8.

I am trying to load solaris 7 audio driver on solaris 8. It is not working.
Also I have recompiled drivers codes on solaris 8 still not working. Something must have changed in the audio interface from solaris 8 to solaris 7. Can anyone help me to find these changes. Thanks

This could be a big headache....but if there is a need to upgrade your OS from 7 to 8
then you should be ready for a good backup plan....meaning, if something goes wrong at any
point in the process, you could easily revert back to your old system environment.
If I were the one to do this, I will do the following.
    1) I will make use of mirroring. It will be good if you could do it for the entire filesystem
of your OS and your DB.
    2) Once I have a mirror, I will simply detach the other mirror and do my upgrade.
Anything goes wrong, I will simply make use of the other mirror to have my old system back.
When you upgrade your OS from 7 to 8, I had seen lots of problem where it could not complete the
process. And the reason is the size of the Filesystem for Solaris 8 specially the root requires
a big size as to any previous version. i usually just install from scratch. But the problem is if
your filesystem for the OS and Applications like your DB are crossing each other then you may have
to rebuilt your Applications too. Unless you had partition them such that they are totally separated.
When you had succesfully installed your Solaris 8, then your next headache is to make sure
all your applicatiions including your DB will be running fine with the new OS. Usually they
would not as they may need to be patched. So that means you have to check the Oracle websites
as for what are the patches needed to make your Oracle runs properlly in the new OS.
Most important is your backup plan, which is your mirrored-disk of your running environment.
Also you have to make a Plan of everything. Doing this will really take a lot of time.
Good luck. I have done this before.....I'm pretty sure you could do it.
just remember , your back-up plan should always be available anytime.

  • Performance hit in audio playback in Solaris 10

    Hi,
I've noticed while trying out the Solaris 10 beta 72 that the audio playback quality took a major hit since Solaris 9. I was hoping that this would go away in the Solaris 10 release, but it's not the case.
If I try to play an .mp3 file with mpg123 or even audioplay an .au file, there are regular clicks in the playback, audible about twice per second. Booting into Solaris 9, the audio playback is perfect.
My intuition tells me that the integration of DTrace into the kernel is the culprit, but of course, I have no proof. Can anyone think of a way to test this theory? Can DTrace be disabled? Maybe DTrace can be used to figure out what's going on?

    Maybe DTrace can be

  • Script for checking hardware failures on Solaris

    Hi all,
I am trying to write a script that checks failures/faults on the Solaris servers(8/9/10) using commands prtdiag -v, echo | format, metastat errors and iostat errors .
Does anyone have scripts like that?
    Cheers

please share the script...It doesn't work that way.
These are technical forums, not replacements for you doing your own work.
People will be happy to respond with suggestions when you show what you have done but you need to display that you have done some effort first. You have not pasted any of your script here so no one can suggest any improvements to your work.
Go read the first two replies. They give you a lot of possibilities.

  • Using solaris 11 x86 I do not get usb audio in firefox or additions where can I redirect the internal audio to usb audio? Audio works through solaris

I upgraded to Solaris 11 x86 and Firefox 3.6.10. I have sound through Solaris but not through Firefox or any of the add-ons.
I am using USB speakers which work with Solaris Rythmbox. How can I redirect Firefox audio to my USB speakers?

It works fine, thank you. There is one glitch when I turn off my system and on the next day the audio is missing again. Applying the dsp to dsp 0 reboot and then back to dsp1 reboot I get the audio back.
Is there any way to restart the process?

  • HP Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook 4 Audio Failure

My computer won't play sounds at all (videos online, downloaded music, games on my computer, everything).
This doesn't happen all the time. I'm not sure but I think it usually happens when I use my computer for a long time (1-2 hours). It starts working again when I restart my computer but it stops working later and I have to restart my computer again.
I was wondering if there was a solution and if there's a reason why my audio isn't working.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall.  When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'.  You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
After this you may or may not need to delete and reload the Audio driver - if you do, the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the document on the link below.

  • Built in audio failure

I have tried to find this topic in the boards without luck. My MBP (2 years old now, with OSX 10.4.11) has lost all internal audio - no speakers, no headphones, no internal microphone . I was unplugging my guitar cable from the input jack (actually the cable from the amp) using garage band, and that seemed to trigger the audio to die. System Utility reports "no built in audio" hardware, and System Preferences reports no audio input or output devices. However, I can still use airtunes. Also, no chime at start up - no sounds at all. What happened? Anything else I can try?

Any chance recommending an appropriate microphone?
You can use your current microphone via the iMic

Which is better USB or mic with amp?
USB is usually more convenient since a pre-amp needs power. The sound quality depends entirely on the microphone. There are some high-qualty USB microphones, such as:

There are also USB pre-amps for high-quality XLR microphones

There are also low cost USB microphones and headsets.

  • TV Tuner Audio failure followed by color distortion (a Total Mess)

    Hi guys
    so this is my story
I've this MSI FX 5200 VT128 Personal Cinema for about 8 months and it's been working fine . After upgrading my Mother Board to GA-8IK100(v2.0) and my CPU to Intel P4 3.0 GHz HT  again the CARD WAS WORKING FINE ( the problem i'll explain has nothing to do with system config, coz it's been working).
One day i came up with the idea, HOW NICE WOULD IT BE IF I COULD USE THE AUX-AUDIO-IN CONNECTOR OF THIS CARD TO CONNECT IT TO AUX-OUT OF MY OnBOARD SOUNDCARD , although i couldn't find any instructions about this connector (White 4-pined coonector on this card) , i couraged to plug a proper cable between two(i'm an electronics Engineering Student    :hypecrite: and i couldn't see any NO NO in it), and the problem began here!
First of all, i couldn't hear any thing in this new config, so i removed the cable and used the LINE-IN cable as i did before, but no dice ! No sound !
I though something has went wrong onboard.
When i tried to do the same thing again (AUX theory!) to make sure it was not working ( after a second boot ), and it didn't as expected, a new problem came up!
After changing things back to noram,  While having no Audio the pictures i saw was great! No RED color , and a DRAMATIC distortion in what i can say was color!
Although think i've damaged the tuner badly ( electric shocks after restarts) ,
I want to know if there is any way around to bring this bad boy back to work?
    Can anyone help me?
(I can perfome Technical Fixings (replacing any component , or circuits if possible) )
Thankx for your patience after all(if u ever happen to get to this line )

So the right way is that:
check first visual for problems like burned cap resistors and then measured all diode around output connection somethimes for ESD protection company used shotky diode which are not work well with big current like your case.
Then if this is the reason remove all of them and asembly new
if the problems are coming from CPU on the card
forgot this card and bay new one !!!!
I hope this information you will got also from thechnical support staff :-)
So sorry this card like a bad hardware design release .................
a lot of bugs inside software and now hardware problems ....    ????
Any way try to find what are the electrical problems ..

  • Gradual Choppy Audio Failure in Mainstage

Hi, today I purchased and downloaded Mainstage 2.2.2 for my Macbook Pro (Early 2011, 8GB Ram). I also have a similar issue with Mainstage 2.0 on my 2009 iMac, I hoped the problem would've been solved with the new version, but the exact same one exists.
I use a Presonus FIrestudo Mobile for MIDI and Audio hookup in Mainstage 2 via Firewire. The MIDI works perfectly with my keyboard. When I plug in guitar orvarious keyboards for audio however, they work great for about 30 seconds, then they start introducing static noises along with distortion as if the CPU is overloading, but the CPU meter is fine.
I've tried everything so far, the buffer size, toggling I/O latency settings, updating my driver, switching the soundcard settings, firewire cables etc. The strange thing is, whenever I change a setting on my soundcard or in Mainstage, the problem goes away completely for about 30-45 seconds, and then comes back. Its very upsetting.
ANOTHER strange thing is that I use the same setup for recording in Logic, and I've had this exact same problem in the past, but then I switchedd Plug-In Latency in audio prefrences to 'Off' and the problem vanished permenantly. This leads me to believe there is a similar problem with Mainstage 2 software, but there is no Plug-In Latency setting in Mainstage 2 at all, so I can't switch it to off and fix this like I did in Logic.
If anyone has ANY idea how to do this or anything I haven't tried yet that would be amazing. It's very disheating that this strange problem is happening to me and is preventing me from using this almost perfect piece of software, but I cannot perform with the audio distorting  30 seconds after I change a setting. Thank you

FIXED: I see people are still coming here so I should share something that might help. Well, it wasn't exactly a fix as much as I found a workaround, but it's been working perfectly ever since I've done this.
    • Go to utlilities  > audio MIDI setup.
    • Then, go to the plus in the bottom left corner and "create agregate device".
    • Now you'll have a new agregate device in the left window. Click on it. In the right side of the window you should see all audio devices that are available in there. Find the interface you want to use that's causing you trouble in there, and click the check box next to it.
    • You can right click on  the device title it to change it's name. Now basically what you've done is created a new virtual audio device that takes the interface you want to use as an input and outputs it through itself. You can now select it from any program you want uner the audio inputs options and it should work fine. I don't know why this works but it's been working perfectly for me ever since. Hope this helps anyone!

  • Rendering Project - Audio failure

    Hi,
I've just finished a music video, where the sound was recorded separately. I synchronized the sound with the picture by slowing it down 1%. Everything works fine in the work area, but after rendering or exporting the project the sound goes back, speeds up that 1% unsynchronizing it!
Is there a trick here that I should apply before rendering or exporting??

I got it :)!! I just had to take off the starting audio transition which I guess messed up the thing! Thanks anyway!!

  • Audio Failure Only While Watching Any Kind of Video Online

Both my internal audio unit and my external one (M-Audio Firewire 1814) are prone to this problem. After about a minute or so of watching any kind of video online, irrespective of website (YouTube, The Daily Show's Website, random embedded flash video, anything) or browser (Chrome, Safari), the sound starts to sort of disintegrate, stutter, and ultimately go out.
If I am using the Firewire unit, restarting the the device fixes it. If I am using my laptop's built-in audio, the problem is fixed by plugging in headphones, or unplugging them if they were in in the first place.
Note that this is not an issue with videos on my computer, only streaming online ones. I at first suspected it had to do with buffering and my computer not being able to handle the load, but even if I let a video fully buffer, I still experience this problem after a minute or so.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is all most unfortunate...from what I read in your post you have covered everything that can be done at your end....something is damaged on the Logic Board it sounds like...as to how much it would cost only the people that end repairing will know after it is diagnosed....take it in...tell them what you have found and tried so far...maybe that will help narrow down the problem...
    Good Luck....

  • Flash Player Audio Failure

Hello all. I am running Windows XP.I recently restored my computer to it's original settings. I did this because I got a virus and my anti-virus was unable to remove it. I now have all my updates installed on my computer. Whenever I visit a site that uses flash player settings, you know, if you go to a site and it asks permission to access your mic/cam, my audio is not heard on the other end. (Nothing to do with not being able to see or hear youtube videos.)
I am sure it has to do something with Adobe Flash Player though. I test my audio and it works fine on my pc. It works fine on aim. I have been searching the web before coming here and have tried a some things. A few things I have tried are:

  • Audio Failure in Leopard

Since today when I boot up the Mac, the volume icon does not always appear in the menu bar at the top. The consequence is that the Mac is then unable to produce any sound and when you try to adjust the volume using the keyboard the usual icon pops up with a 'no audio' symbol at the bottom. The volume buttons on the keyboard therefore have no affect.
In System Preferences the 'show volume in menu bar' box remains ticked, but I notice that the Mac no longer seems to recognise its own speakers. This has only started happening after installing the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime which I think were released a day or so ago (as of November 10th). So perhaps a connection there?
Are others experiencing a similar problem and if so have you managed to find a solution? The best solution I have found so far is to simply restart, but it's somewhat frustrating!

My MacBook has the same problem as well, the red light isn't always on, but i can change the volume with the keyboard shortcuts (I get a little no-sign in the transparent pop-up screen). Going to the sound menu, I can't find my internal speakers anymore. Restart haven't fixed the problem, but if I plug headphones it I can get them recognized.
