Audio file interpreted as audiobook

iTunes seems to be trying to interpret a particular song in my library as an audiobook (the overlapping-squares icon appears next to it) - consequently, it won't play at all. The song is 'What Goes On,' by The Beatles, if that matters. I'm unable to re-download the song, as neither it, nor any other of my Beatles tracks, appear in the cloud. I'd greatly appreciate any help in resolving this matter

  • How can I import several small audio files to create one BIG file in iTunes

    I have ONE cd with THREE audio stories contained in EIGHTEEN audio files (6 files make each story). I also have an iMac. Not sure if they're mp3 or not, but they play on computers and car radios.
    How can I take this CD, whisper abracadabra and end up with three files (each with one story)? Don't need to re-burn a CD, but just need to get them on to an iPod.
    I've tried inserting the CD and using the right mouse click/info/options to select 6 files and identify them as a 'gapless album' - but this did not link the files together.
    Any help you can offer would be appreciated. I have read pages & pages of topics, but could not find this particular issue.

    Insert the CD.
    Don't Import it yet.
    Select the CD in iTunes.
    Select the consecutive tracks uyou want joined as one file.
    Go to menu Advanced > Join CD tracks.
    Do this for each set of tracks you want as one file.
    Then Import the CD.
    If the tracks are already in iTunes, no need to import them again.
    Use this -> Join Together
    "Join Together automates the process of joining the files of selected iTunes tracks together with QuickTime and exporting them as a single AAC Music or Audiobook file/track. Optionally, you can then create a "chapterized" audio file of the exported AAC file with pointers to the individually joined tracks."

  • The duration of an audio file

    I need to determine the length of my audio file. Right now I am using .caf files, but I can see how I might this to work with mp3s also.
    Anyhow, I see this tidbit from the Apple Core Audio Spec:
    mSampleRate
    The number of sample frames per second of the data. You can combine this value with the frames per packet to determine the amount of time represented by a packet. This value must be nonzero.
    That's looking good, except this will only tell me the duration of the packet. I can't find out how many packets my total audio file has. (And yes, this is a file, not a stream.)
    What am I missing? Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Unless I am mis-interpreting the question this should work:
    +(NSTimeInterval)getDurationForAudioFile:(NSString*)path
    OSStatus status = 0;
    AudioFileID audioFile;
    NSTimeInterval seconds;
    UInt32 propertySize;
    propertySize = sizeof(seconds);
    status = AudioFileOpenURL((CFURLRef)[NSURL fileURLWithPath:path],
    fsRdPerm, AUDIOFILETYPE, &audioFile);
    status = AudioFileGetProperty (
    audioFile,
    kAudioFilePropertyEstimatedDuration,
    &propertySize,
    &seconds);
    return seconds;

  • Changing audio file locations within I-tunes

    How can I move files out of the music folder and into the audio books folder within the library?
    Specifically, I purchased several MLK and JFK speech files. Most appear in the music list, although a couple appear in the audiobook list. I would like them all to appear in the audio book list. If I attempt to drag and drop it doesn't work despite the fact that the computer indicates this is possible.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

    Julio, it works, but the files marked as AUDIOBOOK disappear and don't appear in an AudioBooks folder, nor can they be found with "Search"
    Try it, put an MP3 file into iTunes, use the procedure to mark it as an Audiobook, then try to find it.
    Is there supposed to be an AudioBook folder, like there is Music, Movies, Podcasts? in iTunes?

  • How do I get 'all' my audio books into the Audiobook folder?

    Hi, I'm an iTunes newbie (new touch) and am trying to get to grips with some of the quirks of iTunes.
    I have some audio books I purchased from Audible.co.uk and when imported into iTunes these go into the Audiobooks folder in the iTunes Library.
    However, I also have several audio books I have converted from CD's into MP3. When I import these into iTunes, they always end up in the music folder of the Library. No amount of dragging and dropping or searching of the 'preferences' have allowed me to move these files into the Audiobook folder. Can this be done in iTunes?
    Any help greatly received.
    Regards,
    Glenn

    If you are going to do it this way, I would suggest a SmartPlaylist.
    Highlight all of your audiobooks, go to file, then get info. Now, pick a section to edit (Comments, grouping or genre are the best choices) and enter a tag such as "Audiobook".
    Now, create a SmartPlaylist to only show anything with that particular tag.
    For example, "Genre contains audiobook". Only files with Audiobook will show up.
    Forgive me if you knew how to do this, but I figured as a new user this might be helpful.

  • Quicktime audio file on my iPod shuffle?

    I want to record a story I'm reading.
    I assume I can use quicktime for that?
    If so, how do I get that on my ipod shuffle?

    After recording yourself using QuickTime Player, use this command.
    File -> Export...
    If you recorded as a video (not audio only), choose Audio Only for the Format.  When you click Export, this creates a 256 kbps AAC version of the recording.  Find the audio file and open it using iTunes.  iTunes imports the file and it should appear in the Music library.  If you want it to appear in iTunes as an audiobook, do a Get Info on it.  On the Info window's Options tab, set the Media Kind to Audiobook.  You can now sync this item to your shuffle as desired.

  • Changing category of audio files

    I'd like to change around my iTunes files, and reorganize some files. I have files that are listed in the "music" section that should be either audiobooks or podcasts. How can I adjust their classification? There is no "audio kind" option (or anything similar to the video options) in the info screen corresponding to each file.

    There is an KIND "MPEG Audio File". This appears to be the default of for audio that is both ripped using iTunes as well as other MP3s that are imported from other sources.

    Here is the How to import in itunes 11. Including the Join tracks option.

    Also if you have imported them then  this article gives a good understanding of how to tag these songs

    the other option would be to use an App like Audiobook Builder to stitch the tracks together in upto 12 hour long sections and sends to itunes automatically. It is available in the App Store. There are others available, Audiobook binder is free

  • One big audio file

  • Audio file resets to beginning when I go to another app.

    Just upgraded to Ipod Touch 2G from Ipod 5G Video. I've searched these forums for a similar problem to no avail.
    I have imported an audio CD with no problems so far. My difficulty is that when I stop an audio file playback (or any music file for that matter) and go to another app or outside of the playlist, the file resets to the beginning. Not a problem on a 3 or 4 min music file but a 1 or 2 hour audio file can get very frustrating. I didn't have this problem with the IPod video, I could stop and play games or anything without losing my place in the file. Is there a setting or something to correct this?

    Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Have a read of these articles:
    http://oakroadsystems.com/genl/itunsabk.htm
    http://aldoblog.com/audiobooks/itunes/importing-audio-cds/
    audio books from Audible or iTunes should do this right away.
    If the files are from another source, right click on them and choose Get Info, then check the "Remember Playback position" box. If you then change the file extension in Windows to .m4b they should show up in the Audiobooks section of iTunes too.

  • Audio files on my iPod not in iTunes by my choice

    In order to save space on my macbook I would like to load my iPod touch with all of my audio files and then remove them from my iTunes/computer.
    This is mainly for getting my audiobooks and video onto my iPod but it's quite a lot and I don't have a need for them on my computer after I load them.
    Is this a good idea, is it possible? Will this interfere with getting updates and charging when attaching iPod to my computer?
    I don't yet have the iPod Touch. I want it for Xmas but would like to know if this is a possibility before I decide on which model to get.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
    ~Jenn~

    You can do this if you manually sync music to your Touch, but in my opinion it would not be a good idea. Are you really that short on space on your MacBook? If so look into getting an external drive.
    If you don't care about losing these books and videos by all means put them on the Touch and delete them, just realize if you have to Restore the Touch you will lose all of them.

  • Converting  audio file from one format to another format

    Hi Friends,
    Is it possible to convert the audio file from one format to another format(*.mp3 to *.wav file and vice versa)?
    If so, please guide me on the same.
    Thanks in advance,

    It's been covered here already, but take a look here:

  • Bookmarking audio file in iPhone

    Hi
    I listen to audio files. Sometime I need to bookmark the audio and then come back and resume the audio from that point.
    how can I can do that in IPhone?
    Thanks
    R

    In iTunes, select the file you want to be able to resume. Right-click that file and in the dialog box, select the "Options" tab.
    Select the "Remember Playback Position" toggle.
    Now that file will act just like an Audiobook file. When you listen to something else or shut off your device, when you come back to the file, it will resume where you left off.

  • HT1473 i need a file to download audiobooks to ipod nano 5th generation

    I need a file to download audiobooks to my ipod nano 5th generation
    eg. .aa

    Original message:-
    I have tried every way but due to my ipod requiring iOS I cannot upload audiobooks. I can only upload audiobooks  made by Librivox. on iTunes
    I used another Website called "Audible", where with my Ipod nano 5th generation they gave me a file namely .aa which worked for me and I was able to upload audios of all kinds onto iTunes and my Ipod..
    Have iTunes any such files that I can use to do the same please? thank you.
    New Message:-
    Sorry my friend but you are not answering my question.
    Now you are asking me  "And what do you mean by 'have iTunes any such files' ?"
    and "have you checked to see if the site that you got them from have their own app in your country's app store ? Which is UK, is there a difference?
    I have an Ipod nano 5th Generation so I use "ITunes" yes? or "Apple" if you prefer that?
    Now when I download audiobooks on to iTunes  I cannot transfer those audiobooks from iTunes  on to my ( Ipod nano 5th Generation) because ITunes STORE tell me that I need iOS  which is NOT on my player although when I purchased the player it advertised it downloaded Music and Audiobooks OK?
    Yet when I went to another site "Audible" THEY had a file to facilitate my player WHICH allowed me to download both music and audiobooks:)
    Now all I'm asking you is does "ITunes" have any such software to allow me to do the same to get my audiobooks downloaded?  Thank You.

  • My iPod touch generation 4 won't sync audio files.

    I got my iPod touch (gen 4 ) for Christmas this year, and it did not sync audio files at all, yet it synced photos and apps fine. So I went on various websites trying to find help for the problem, and the websites told me to restore the iPod. So I did and it got frozen on recovery mode. I took the iPod back, and got it swapped for a new one, but the new one has the same problem. It will not sync music or podcasts (I haven't tried videos or audiobooks). I am at a total loss as to what I can do, I don't know whether it is my computer, or the iPod! Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really want to get my iPod working properly! Thanks.

    Yeah, it syncs apps perfectly fine! When I try to sync music/podcasts, it peforms steps 1 - 3 fine (which is preparing the iPod for sync and backing it up etc.) but then when it comes to actually syncing it (steps 4 + 5), the computer freezes, and gets stuck and will not let me click anything, yet the iPod still says that it is syncing. I left it for a couple of hours, when I was just trying to put a couple of songs on, and nothing had changed. And it's only once that I have actually unplugged my iPod that iTunes starts to work again. And then the error messages: "The iPod 'Amelia's iPod' can not be synced. It is not conneceted" and "Attempting to copy to the disk 'Amelia's iPod' failed. An error occured while writing to the device." And occasionally an error message with '(-20)'. I have tried disabling my firewall, deleting backup history as well.
    I have tried connecting it manually (dragging and dropping) as well as automatically!
