Audio filter problem- graphic equalizer

I'm a little new FCP and to using audio filters. I know that the filter I need is one of Apple's that also came with my software- AUGraphicEQ. It's a lot easier to play with than the limited 3-band equalizer of FCP's. The filter worked great for about the first 10 minutes I tried it. But for some reason, now whenever I apply this filter, it won't "stick".
For example, I've got a clip with a hiss at about 160 Hz. I can hear the hiss go away when I apply the GraphicEQ to the clip and lower the gain for that frequency while it's playing. Then- once I've stopped playback in the timeline and start again- though the filter still shows the lowered frequency in the viewer, the hiss is back. If I render the clip or even export it, the hiss is still there when I play it. Why won't the GraphicEQ apply permanently to the clip in the sequence?
I've experimented with different clips and different sequences and the same thing happens with this filter. It doesn't happen with the FCP filters; they seem to be working fine.
Is there a setting I'm not aware of that's affecting this?
Please help!

Updates are OK to run, but upgrades ala Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard should be done as an erase and install from the ground up, as should upgrades from say FCS 2 to FCS (2009)...
Trash your FCP preferences (User/Library/Preferences/FCP User Data/, then give it another go after you've selected to mix in RT at least 8 or 10 tracks of audio at one time... it's in the user preferences. See if that makes a difference...
If not an uninstall/reinstall of FCP might do the trick. But use this: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm to do the uninstall with. You can choose to just uninstall FCP with it too.
However it will could be a bug with that particular filter... I don't use it as you are anyway. I'd open the file in Soundtrack pro and remove the unwanted hiss there... it's a ton better...

  • Audio filter problems when exporting to miniDV and as video file

I have used the DeNoiser filter on most of the audio in a 10 minute film i have made using CS4, however, when i ty and export it, either as an AVI, (or simular) or to tape, the filters arent working properly.
this happens sometimes in playback, i have to listen to the audio first before the filter works properly. if i dont it just makes the audio inaudiable the first time round.
it seems like it needs rendering, which isnt the case, and i have NO idea why it is doing this.

because it is rendered, i have clicked on "sequence -> render audio" and nothign happens, it just plays through like it would once it has finished rendring.
like i said, it plays fine in playback, most of the time, just not after it has been exported

Did you contact Customer Support.... If you're referring to this forum, then I'll have to point you towards the red announcement at the top of each board, this forum is for user interaction, not for support.
What you're experiencing is normal, the sound you're getting through is only a stereo signal, so it'll play over the front speakers.

  • [Python pygame] Graphic equalizer - keeping sound and video in sync

    Hi!
I'm writing a graphic equalizer in python and I want to use pygame for the video and audio output.
The video display of the moving bars works great, now that I have a correct way to read samples and decode them.
The problem now is: they're way out of sync with the audio playing in the background!
At the moment my code, that draws the bars basically looks like this:
    # loop as long as we can get slice of the audio file for the fft
    for n_frame in range(0, len(framebuffer), fftframesz):
    clock.tick_busy_loop(t_loop)
    # t_loop was defined as fftframesz over total_frame_count
    # which means in words: t_loop is the amount of FFTs per second - or the cycles of THIS loop
    # grab the frames and perform the fft here
    ...numpy.fft.fft...
    # set the new bar heights and draw them
    for bar in bars:
    bar.update()
    # if playback has not started yet, make it so
    if not pygame.mixer.get_busy():
    musicfile.play()
The way I'm thinking, this should be enough to keep sound and video in sync. Because we know the time that one cycle should take at most,
we can set the clock to tick_busy_loop this time. This way we make sure that the video is not faster than the sound.
But to me it seems that is is the other way round, i.e. that the video is slower than the sound. I already did some timing, but to no avail.
Is there perhaps a more easy, more elegant way to make sure that image and audio are in sync?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your ideas. I assume you mean I should go with a $1200.00 final cut pro software. NOT.
Sure the video will be on myspace and youtube but wether they are noticed or not is not as important as self satisfaction. I can easily split scenes into equal time zones as I said. Then drag them into clips and back all using the same camcorder. Multiple cameras and angles would be nice but this can be done on a low budget and still look good. I guess my original questions were not answered. Is there a way to determine the length of a transition and shorten the clip by that amount. Or the length of a still shot and do the same. Or perhaps they have been answered and the answer is NO WAY, and I am just not hearing it.
I suppose reimporting a video would be great if I could use two timelines like in audio and then blank out what I don't want in the first. But I just don't think this is possible, or is it. I've been reading iMovie HD6 The Manual that should have been in the box. It's a help but doesn't take you from the beginning of a project to the final project. Exporting to imovie or idvd is not an issue. BTW I got the clips in sync as I said by leaving blank spots and placing effects over them. I could insert the proper length video in those spots but that can look silly without transitions. But then again so can transitions. This stuff is very fun and interesting and a great learning experience. If I stop now as you suggest then I am not pushing myself to the limit. But thanks for your reply.

  • Audio Filter missing:  Internal Volume Stereo - corrupt project?

    Hi,
I am getting this error when I open my project. In addition, no media will play in the project either in the sequence window or the source window.
It all appears and will scrub (with no audio), but will not play.
I dug around a bit and I found that there is a known bug with audio from XML's and that is what I am using (convinced my client to migrate from FCP to Premiere - please don't tell me I made a mistake).
Everything worked brilliantly for a week, including the addition of audio filters, and then all of a sudden - bang. No more.
I have painstakingly deleted every audio filter and I am still getting this error. I have also tried a re-install.
Another oddity is that when I try to quit Premiere, it will not quit all the way without a force quit!
I'm running CC 2014 on a brand new mac pro.

    Steve and Bill,
I follow your advice, but it did not solve the problem. It is true  that  problems began when I used ZOOM recorder at 98kHz/24 bit in my current project (I already changed ZOOM mode to 48kHz/16 bit), but could this be just a coincidence?
In the meantime I checked the rest of my 16 projects (.prel), which were fine before. To my surprise I found that although all of them were made using EXACTLY the same method, some of them are still OK, but most I can not Playback. The messages appearing are of three types:
    1. "Audio Filter missing: Internal Balance".
    2. "Audio Filter missing: Internal Volume Stereo".
    3. "This type of file is not supported or required codec is not installed".
In one case, when I opened a project the first time, the message was "This type of file is not supported or required codec is not installed", but when I opened it second time it said " Audio Filter missing:Internal Volume Stereo". It seems to be random.
Some projects can be opened, but when I try to Playback  there is no sound.
I am completly lost. Please help.

No it does not have an equalizer. The AppleTV does not have speaker connections. The ouput from the AppleTV goes to your HD-TV or home theatre receiver.

  • How to Retain Graphic Equalizer Settings?

When I click on the Graphic Equalizer icon in FCPX (under Audio Enhancements in the Inspector for a selected audio clip), it always opens up with the default settings for the selected Equalization mode even if the mode isn't changed.  The documentation says that changing the mode, like switching from "Flat" to "Hum Reduction", will reset the levels which I can totally agree with because a new presets model is being selected.  But, if I've spent considerable time adjusting the levels (and the mode now reads "Hum Reduction (edited)") and then click on the Graphic Equalizer icon, instead of opening with the adjusted levels displayed it opens with the levels reverted back to defaults.  All the hard work of setting the levels gets erased if I want to further tweak the levels some more.  Is this a bug, or is there a different way of opening the equalizer without trashing a clip's current settings?

This seems to be a bug and has been reported numerous times. Suggest you send a report to Apple. Use  Final cut menu send feedback to Apple. As a workaround use one of the audio EQ effects. The Logic Pro one is quite good.

  • Using the itunes graphic equalizer with my ipod nano

I read in the ipod nano manual that it is possible to use the graphic eq in itunes for my ipod nano. You have to switch off the equalizer on the ipod in the 'playback' section which I did. Then the manual says that you can assign tracks to the graphic eq on itunes. Unfortunately it doesnt say exactly how to do that. I dont like the eq presets on the ipod nano and would like to use the graphic equalizer on itunes to eq all of the songs on my ipod nano. Does anyone know how to do this. Please help as this problem has taken over my life!!

  • Graphic equalizer crashing after driver upgr

    Hi.
Upgraded the drivers today using software autoupdate, for some reason the graphic equalizer stopped working.
Booted into safemode removed all drivers and reinstalled them from the cd and the equalizer was working.
Used software autoupdate and updated to the latest driver and the equalizer stopped working AGAIN.
Took a look in windows logbook and found this.
Felaktigt program cteq.exe, version .5..0, felaktig modul equda.eqc, version ..3.0, felaktig adress 0x0000ee9.
Not sure what the correct words are but translated into english its something like.
    wrong program cteq.exe, version .5..0, wrong module equda.eqc,versin ..3.0, wrong adress 0.0000ee9
Windows xp with all recent upgrades.
    Audigy2?
?So what is the problem and can it be solved?
    Regards.

If you need the graphic equalizer you need to roll back to the latest working driver for the Audigy 2: http://danielkawakami.blogspot.com/
For installing the unofficial driver pack you don't need the official Audigy2 install cd, since the unofficial pack already includes the applications such as the graphic equalizer, EAX console, surround mixer etc.; if you need all the applications that are only available with the official Audigy 2 install disc you should install the drivers and applications from the disc and update the driver to the mentioned version of 2.09.006 (9 oct 2006); my experience is that this older driver for the Audigy series causes less problems than the official newer beta drivers.
    Good luck!

  • No Graphic equalizer in Windows 7

Hello, you can either call me Rich or RDFmx3, which ever you like. This is my first post and I'm a old fart?so don't
    be too hard on me,
First off I di check to see if my question had been asked before but like most places there is way too many pages to
try and look through so here it goes.
I have a older SB Audigy2 card and now that I'm using Win7 instead of XP I now no longer have a graphic equalizer to alter the sound for my games, "I'm used to haveing each game set up?a certaint way". I've tried a new driver but the equalizer doesn't seem to come with it.......or work, which ever. I'd buy a new card if I hadn't just bought a new Wheel so money is a little tight right now.
Well there it is, has anyone else had this problem and found a fix?
    Later Ya'all

I can't remember if I got controls back using this driver (I havent used my Audigy 2 for years now) but it's worth a try. http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=698949
You just need to google for a download link, it seems the NSA shut down all upload/download servers for whatever reason (not specific to this file).

  • Audio filter: flat

    Hi:
Is there a good audio filter in FCP that can help reduce the echo effect of a
church? It's hard to understand the speaker because of the magnificent echo
created by the sanctuary. I'd just like to be able to reduce that a bit.
    Any thoughts?
    Schuney

Hi, this is an age old problem that I'm afraid your stuck with. Many people believe that audio problems are solvable in post production but if you have recorded it then your stuck with it. Usually only buzzes and hums are removable and not always successfully.
I suggest you try experimenting with filters and see if you can improve the sound quality. EQ maybe, but even try a harsh compressor, you never know. There are some noise filters that sample the background noise and then remove it but they tend to make the person sound like they have a speech impediment.
The only real way to solve the problem would have been to get the mic very close to the speaker but in an echoey church even that may not be the answer.
Sorry there is no straight forward answer to your problem.

  • Audio filter have no effect

I am an audio engineer who is a newbie to Final Cut. I am having a problem with the audio on a music video I'm doing for a client. The situation is this: I select an audio clip in the timeline that I want to apply an audio filter to. So I double click it so it shows in the viewer, then go to the Effects tab and choose an audio filter, which then appears in the viewer under the Filters tab. All well and good. But then when I make changes to the filter parameters I do not hear changes in the audio, and that's the problem. I have tried dragging the Filter from the effects tab directly to the clip in the timeline- same thing, nothing happens when I make changes. Of course I tried making radical changes which should be very apparent, but I still hear no changes. What am I missing here?
    Thanks,
    Monte

I get the impression that rendering is a big deal in Final Cut, but at first I thought rendering only affected video. In the audio programs I usually work with, there is no rendering. Changes made are immediately audible.
Yes, you're finally getting the right impression. I know very well what you mean though. I work with pro tools all the time and I love that all the effects are real time. Final Cut is a whole different story. Usually if I need to do anything more with my audio other than apply a compressor or gain I take it to SoundtrackPro or ProTools. FCP is terrible with audio. And yes, you have to render both audio and video. (In your settings you are able to change how many tracks FCP can play at the same time but doesn't seem like you got that many anyway).
    montelee wrote:
I do not have to render in order to hear them, but there is an annoying beep until I do render.
If you're hearing that beep then that means that you DO need to render. Exporting from Garage band and ProTools has never been a problem for me. Maybe you have some really weird timeline setting. Mind sharing those with us? In the future, it's always best to work in a ProRes timeline.
    montelee wrote:
But wouldn't deleting my audio renders file be counter-productive? All of the audio has to be rendered eventually, right?
FCP renders audio pretty quickly. Deleting the audio render files is not counter-productive because fcp will render those in no time and this time they're be playing right. Sometimes I need to do that a few times per project. It's annoying as **** but when you're not working in a native fcp format you're pretty much setting yourself for a disaster so that's the price you're gonna pay!
And yes, all of the audio will be rendered eventually before you export.
