Audio Filters for filtering out noise

Hi all! I'm fresh on FCE and doing pretty well thanks to these forums. I've found answers to most of my issues except this one. I have a video clip with a soft spoken person and air conditioning background noise. I've tried numerous filters and settings, but, I have NO experience with audio settings. Where would you suggest I start as far as a filter to use, and what settings to tweak? I was also going to use the "Gain" filter to boost her volume after I filter out the A/C. Thanks!!!!

Try Effects>Audio Filters>3 Band Equalizer.

A third party appliczatin like Sound Soap could be a better solution than FCE filters. Try a trial on your clip.

  • Audio filter for mic handling noise

I've putting a soundtrack over an edit but there seems to be some low rumble microphone handling noise at the end of the track. I want to know which filter would be best to look for the thumping noises and reduce them as much as possible?

A little help from you would be appreciated ... there are minimalist things needed for us other users to make at least informed guesses ...
Computer specs: OS/version, CPU, RAM, v-card, & etc. (yea, at times these matter)
Program specs: Precise version of which programs used ...
    Footage codecs/sequence settings ...
I might guess that sending it out to Audition might be your best bet, but don't have a clue whether you are CC or simply a single copy of CS6 version or whatnot ...

  • Best audio filter for heavy wind noise ?

    Hello everyone
I'd like to know what is the most used audio filter in order to recuce a heavy wind noise without affecting the voices of a conversation in my movie ?
    Thanks

I don't know what people use, but I've always been told that the best way to get good audio is to get it right the first time. Since I'm no sound guy, I struggle to get anything to sound good.
Export your offending Audio to .aiff and pull it into SoundTrack. Go to your Effects on the middle left of your screen and pick SoundTrack Pro>Channel EQ. Drag this into the area under your Effects bin. Then start playing your sound while adjusting the Advanced Dialog.
You can tweak different frequencies and try to pull out the wind. However, wind often is around the same range as voices, so it's going to cause some distortion.
Beyond this, if the wind was really bad it will have caused "popping" that will have mutilated any talking at that moment.
Can you do any looping/re-record the voices? That may be your best bet.
I'm hoping some sound guy comes here and sets me straight and helps you out. Perhaps check the SoundTrack forums....
I'm sorry I'm not more help.

  • Audio post for Film-Out

    Hi Guys,
I have been researching the workflow for creating a film-out from HVX200 and have pretty much sorted the visual side of it all.
    HVX200 Filmout Workflow
But I am now looking at the audio side of it all. I am totally new to this side of it and was wondering if someone could tell me the exact workflow to follow to accurately post the audio for a 23.98 project. Would it be better to use an audio post house?
Your help would be very much appreciated!

  • Smoothing audio after filtering unwanted noise

I've been using SoundBooth CS5 for a few months and feel pretty comfortable with the basics.  I can filter unwanted noise, trim, cut, splice, etc.  But, I have found that on some occasions after filtering out noise, voices begin to sound, for lack of a better word, "tinny".  Like the voice was recorded through a tin can.  It is clear in the spectral analyzer that the voices were affected by the filtering.
Is there a way to add smoothness back to a voice clip?  I've tried several of the equalizers, filters, effects to enhance male and female voices but it doesn't seem to reduce the issue significantly.
Thanks for taking a look at my issue, any help or thoughts are welcome.

    Try Effects>Audio Filters>3 Band Equalizer.

  • Ruling/filtering out Activities due for shipping

    Hello.
First time poster. Tried to search the forums for a solution, but couldn't find apparently.
In our company, the warehouse has the responsibility of printing out activities, but we would like to filter out any entries that does not have sufficient stock available. As per now, we see a growing list of orders that won't print simply because we do not have the needed materials. We also see orders of return - which is not our responsibility.
So, is there an option of ruling or filtering out, so that we only see activities due for shipping with available materials?
    Thanks in advance.

    Try TCode VL10A.

Well, a few Effects, that might help - a little, would be Curves, Levels and Shadow & Highlight, along with the Three-way Color Corrector. However, the success will depend on the footage. Can you post a Vimeo, or YouTube example, as once one sees what you are working with, they may have other ideas. Good luck, and welcome to the forums, Hunt

  • URGENT AUDIO HELP NEEDED!! Suitable audio filters

I'm in desperate need of knowing what audio filters are good to reduce background noise for a film I'm making. I've got a basic DV camera that picked up a lot of wind the other day and I am trying to minimise the background noise so that I can pick up what people were saying.
Does anyone know what audio filters on Final Cut Express are suitable for doing this?
    Cheers

I have never found a way to filter out wind noise, and I don't think it is practicable. I think that the problem is that the frequency in wind noise is similar to the frequencies in most video audio, so you can't filter out the wind noise without damaging the rest of the audio.
The only solution seems to be to shoot on a windless day, or use a very directional mike, and/or have a wind sock that is effective. (Unless soemone else knows a way.)

  • Audio Filters/ Render Limits

I find that I can't apply more than two audio filters to a track. After that I get a beeping noise. I have plenty of memory open, and I'm using a 2GHZ power pc and FCP HD 4.5. Anyone know how I can work this out? Thanks so much.

The beep is a render call. You can turn the beep off in preferences if you want, but you still have to render audio in order to hear it with the filters added.
    Go to Sequence menu
    Render
    Audio for playback
You can tell it needs a render also by looking at the colored bars at the top of the timeline. The top color is for Video, the bottom for Audio. They are small, but clear.

  • Is there a way to "loop" audio while I try audio filters?

Is there a way to "loop" audio while I try audio filters?
    Thanks

    Yes.
    Toggle Loop to ON
Set an In and Out in the timeline then select Play In to Out.
If you can't find these commands in the Menu Bar or are looking for the keyboard commands, use Help.
    Have fun.

  • Apple Audio Filters in Final Cut Pro

I'm posting this question here because I didn't receive any responses in the Final Cut Pro message area, and I thought given the nature of the questions, audiofiles that read this area might have an answer.
In Final Cut Pro there are two folders of audio filters, one called APPLE and the other FINAL CUT PRO.
I fully realize none of these filters have the power of programs like SOUNDTRACK PRO.
However, I'm in a situation where I need to document what the filters do. I've already found all the material I need for the FINAL CUT PRO filters. However, I can't find any information anywhere on the APPLE category of filters.
    My questions:
#1 - Does anybody know why the APPLE audio filters are seperated out from the Final Cut Pro filters? How are they different generally?
#2 - Does anybody know where I can find documentation on what each of the APPLE category of audio filters do? I can't find it in the Final Cut Pro Manuals or Diane Weyland books. I found some Ken Stone tutorials on line, but they don't address the APPLE filters.
#3 - And many of the APPLE audio filters seem to be near duplicates in the Final Cut Pro audio filters, so what's the point in having two versions?
Any info at all or a direction to look would be appreciated.
    Thanks so much.

As of Leopard I was surprised to find that the Apple system plug-ins, and those that are supplied with the FCP suite are not AU plug-ins in the old sense of what a plug-in used to be. They no longer exist as a file anywhere in the system as they used to. Audio Unit plug ins formerly used to exist in Library/Audio/Plug ins/Components - now they are build into the Leopard operating system.
Any third party plug-in you purchase will still be installed in the "old" way.
Sorry, I can't remember where that documentation exists. Probably in the developer docs somewhere.

  • Best Audio Filter to cut out traffic noise

I'm new to the audio filters.  Can anyone suggest one that might help reduce the background traffic noise in an outside interview?
    Susan

You can try using the noise reduction tools in SoundTrack Pro, but the best way to eliminate background noise in situations like this is to use a directional, dynamic mic when recording.
If you are unfamiliar with the noise reduction tools in STP, check these out: http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=noise+reduction+soundtrack+pr o&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest

  • APPLE vs. FCP audio filters

I have a basic question. I'm trying to do some documentation on the various audio filters built into FCP, and you've got the "APPLE" folder and the "Final Cut Pro" folder.
I'm not asking for an explanation of each filter, as theres lots of documentation on line and from various sources, and I also know these filters are not on par with SOUNDTRACK PRO for doing any real audio fixing, but I have one simple question I'm just trying to get the answer to, so I can in turn explain it to others...
Why are there two sets of filters, APPLE and FCP? I can guess that FCP created those filters in their folder, but, then what are the APPLE filters...why are they seperated out?
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • What do I do when Final Cut Pro 4 crashes when loading audio filters?

When I try to start Final Cut Pro it crashes while loading the audio filters. I have upgraded through the years to FCP HD but trashed that and reinstalled FCP4.0. I also trashed preferences file and everything else other forums suggested. I ran preference manager but no luck. It hasn't opened for several months. I am running OS X 10.4.11 on a dual 1.8 GHZ Power PC G5 with 2.5 DDR SDRAMM. Thanks in advance for any help.

I downloaded Audio Manager and disabled the plug ins it found(which were in a different file folder) and lo and behold FCP loaded. I guess now I need to enable each one at at time and find out which is the culprit. Thanks for your help.

  • Audio Filters documentation?

This is technically an audio question, but all I want to do is use the audio filters in FCP, not jump in and out for more sophisticated audio editing. My problem/question is: is there any documentation anywhere that explains what each filter does, in detail?
