Audio Filters in FCP

I just recorded something in the ol' garage with my XH-A1 and I do not have my shotgun mic yet. (I know) Anyway, I was just pondering to see if anyone knew of a Audio Filter that could condense the Echo/Noise? I dont know if that makes sense but thought I would try. Nick

  • Possible to avoid scanning/using audio filters when FCP loads?

Hi. I have hundreds of audio plugins wich I never use in FCP. They use a long time to scan on FCP startup and I wondered if there was a way to turn them off/avoid loading them?

  • Audio Filters documentation?

This is technically an audio question, but all I want to do is use the audio filters in FCP, not jump in and out for more sophisticated audio editing. My problem/question is: is there any documentation anywhere that explains what each filter does, in detail?

  • APPLE vs. FCP audio filters

I have a basic question. I'm trying to do some documentation on the various audio filters built into FCP, and you've got the "APPLE" folder and the "Final Cut Pro" folder.
I'm not asking for an explanation of each filter, as theres lots of documentation on line and from various sources, and I also know these filters are not on par with SOUNDTRACK PRO for doing any real audio fixing, but I have one simple question I'm just trying to get the answer to, so I can in turn explain it to others...
Why are there two sets of filters, APPLE and FCP? I can guess that FCP created those filters in their folder, but, then what are the APPLE filters...why are they seperated out?
    Any input would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • FCP 4 - Startup failing at Audio Filters

    Hi,
I've installed FCP 4 on a new Quad (with the patch by the way) but it always quits at the "Loading Audio Filters" stage. I know others have got v4 to work on the new machines and don't think it has anything to do with the patch as we're well past the "You need this hardware" dialogue. But I've also tried trashing preferences along with things like audio plugins.
This is a new machine, so there isn't an awful lot of 'rubbish' on there.
Any further ideas to get this going?
    Cheers
    Colin

You want to go to Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components. That is where all the Audio Unit plug ins live. I have found that FCP does not play well with MANY Audio Unit plug ins. What I did was moved a copy of this folder to my dock and put another folder on the desktop that I keep all the plug ins in. So if I quit out of FCP and want to use my Waves plug-ins or what ever in Logic then I can just do a quick drag to put them in place. Just remember to take them out of the folder before you launch FCP again.

  • FCP and Audio Filters Question.

    Hello,
I'm editing this project for a client. I did not shoot it. However, one of the cameras was plugged into the sound board for audio, and the cameraman checked the camera levels and his were fine before shooting. The sound guy didn't check his levels and one of the voices is peaking quite a bit.
I have very little knowledge in audio production/editing. I'm running FCP 5 -- is there any advice anyone could give me within the audio editors of FCP? I also have Soundtrack, but have no experience with it.
I messed with the three-band EQ and took out some low frequencies but received minimal results.
Thanks so much, advice on these forums is always appreciated.

P.S. Can anyone also recommend a free (or relatively inexpensive) program that can create .FLV files from FCP or Quicktime?

Digital audio, once over driven, is a loss. There is no graceful degradation as in analog audio.
Pop over to the soundtrack pro forum, perhaps one of the experienced folks there can offer some help.
FLV 9 files can be generated from Quicktime Pro as H.264 then simply changing the suffix.

  • Apple Audio Filters in Final Cut Pro

I'm posting this question here because I didn't receive any responses in the Final Cut Pro message area, and I thought given the nature of the questions, audiofiles that read this area might have an answer.
In Final Cut Pro there are two folders of audio filters, one called APPLE and the other FINAL CUT PRO.
I fully realize none of these filters have the power of programs like SOUNDTRACK PRO.
However, I'm in a situation where I need to document what the filters do. I've already found all the material I need for the FINAL CUT PRO filters. However, I can't find any information anywhere on the APPLE category of filters.
    My questions:
#1 - Does anybody know why the APPLE audio filters are seperated out from the Final Cut Pro filters? How are they different generally?
#2 - Does anybody know where I can find documentation on what each of the APPLE category of audio filters do? I can't find it in the Final Cut Pro Manuals or Diane Weyland books. I found some Ken Stone tutorials on line, but they don't address the APPLE filters.
#3 - And many of the APPLE audio filters seem to be near duplicates in the Final Cut Pro audio filters, so what's the point in having two versions?
Any info at all or a direction to look would be appreciated.
    Thanks so much.

As of Leopard I was surprised to find that the Apple system plug-ins, and those that are supplied with the FCP suite are not AU plug-ins in the old sense of what a plug-in used to be. They no longer exist as a file anywhere in the system as they used to. Audio Unit plug ins formerly used to exist in Library/Audio/Plug ins/Components - now they are build into the Leopard operating system.
Any third party plug-in you purchase will still be installed in the "old" way.
Sorry, I can't remember where that documentation exists. Probably in the developer docs somewhere.

  • What do I do when Final Cut Pro 4 crashes when loading audio filters?

When I try to start Final Cut Pro it crashes while loading the audio filters. I have upgraded through the years to FCP HD but trashed that and reinstalled FCP4.0. I also trashed preferences file and everything else other forums suggested. I ran preference manager but no luck. It hasn't opened for several months. I am running OS X 10.4.11 on a dual 1.8 GHZ Power PC G5 with 2.5 DDR SDRAMM. Thanks in advance for any help.

I downloaded Audio Manager and disabled the plug ins it found(which were in a different file folder) and lo and behold FCP loaded. I guess now I need to enable each one at at time and find out which is the culprit. Thanks for your help.

  • FCP4 gets hung up while loading audio filters, then quits

I have only very cursory knowledge of Final Cut Pro. It is installed on my G4, and has been used successfully in the recent past.
Upon opening FCP4 without my iLok in, I am prompted to purchase or cancel using all of my Waves plugins for ProTools, one by one. When I use the iLok, then FCP4 gets hung up on loading the audio filters, and subsequently "unexpectedly" quits. I have tried shutting down and rebooting with the ILok in place - no luck there.
I was unaware that Waves even operated as a plugin inside FCP, yet opening FCP seems to require my Waves authorization, but when I give it, FCP crashes. What could my problem be?
This problem just started last evening after sporadic but successful use of FCP, as well as fully operational use of Waves plugins within ProTools.

AudioUnit Manager 1.1 will let you create default sets of AudioUnit plugins.
Third party components are usually to blame with FCP failing to start up.
With this free app you can create sets which are specific to a particular program.
For example, create a set for FCP with the all offending plugins disabled.
When you boot up, they are placed in a "disabled" folder and stay disabled until you launch a set that includes them.

  • Disengaging Audio Filters when Uploading -----anybody know how ?

Hello, i'm using FCP 4 and i'm having a problem with FCP to recognize my Audio Card - M-Audio Delta 44 - and whenever i have the drivers installed for the card and try to start FC, once it tries to load the Audio filters, FC crashes.
Does anyone know how to turn off the filters when uploading or another clever way of getting FC to read my audio card?
    thanks for any clues.

  • Audio mixing in FCP: anyway to put a peak limiter on the entire mix?

I know how to apply audio filters and effects to individual audio tracks, but maybe I'm missing something obvious.
I come from a music production background, typically, we will have effects on the individual tracks, but then there will also be some effects on the stereo mix (master bus), such as a mastering limiter or peak limiter.
I haven't seen anyway to do something like this within FCP.
I have FCS, I have SoundTrack Pro, but I haven't used it yet - is this something you need to do with SoundTrack?

Thanks! Even though I've got nested sequences in my project, it didn't dawn on me to take the whole final timeline, and nest it all one more time, in order to get down to two tracks of audio and video. You're absolutely right, you can apply effects to the whole audio mix, then.
Of course, after spending the day playing with Sound Track, I'm seeing the possibilities there, it's a much more well-developed application for editing and tweaking the audio mix, more and better effects, but there is sort of a "disconnect" going on when you have to be going back and forth between the two applications.

  • Final Cut Pro 5 Aborts During Start Up at Audio Filters

Final Cut Pro 5.04 aborts during start up at audio filters. Immediately following:
    Loading Audio Filters...
    Apple: AUNetSend
A pop up appears with the following:
File Error: A file of this name already exists.
    So far I have
    1) trashed all FCP related preferences
    2) reinstalled FCP 5
    3) removed [boot/system drive]/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support folder.
Any problem solvers willing to take a stab at this one?

I opened up FCP in another user's account and it didn't abort during start-up. Retruned to my account and FCP opened without error.

  • How do you reduce Audio Crackle in FCP (V6) ?

ok, In my last post I was replacing bad audio with good audio but now I have a situation where even the +"good audio"+ as some crackle in it.
I've been experimenting with various filters in FCP but not getting very good results.
is there a specific filter suitable for reducing a slight crackle in audio?
or is there a better way in Soundtrack Pro?

ok, so I changed it to 48bit by exporting the audio from FCP and changing the setting.
so I end up with a 48bit Aif file.
so I re-import that into FCP but of course I cannot get it to sync with the original.
there were several edits made in the original but exporting, create an identical file right?
but it does not line up.
I tried a trail version of PluralEyes but its not even working. I tried ti three times and it simply crashes.
is there any other way to sync up the new audio file?

  • Audio Filters/ Render Limits

I find that I can't apply more than two audio filters to a track. After that I get a beeping noise. I have plenty of memory open, and I'm using a 2GHZ power pc and FCP HD 4.5. Anyone know how I can work this out? Thanks so much.

The beep is a render call. You can turn the beep off in preferences if you want, but you still have to render audio in order to hear it with the filters added.
    Go to Sequence menu
    Render
    Audio for playback
You can tell it needs a render also by looking at the colored bars at the top of the timeline. The top color is for Video, the bottom for Audio. They are small, but clear.
