Audio from iMovie 10.1 to garageband??

wanting to edit some sound from iMovie, so Just wondering if anyone knows how to get audio from iMovie 10.1 in to garage band at all? i have found numerous tips and videos from the previous versions but not 10.1?? can anyone help

Curious also is that in the new Garageband 10.0.1, the media broswer only shows the "old" iMovie library (from 9.0.9), you can though browse all movies in the movie folder, (so except the new iMovie 10 Library)
So either you share your movie with iTunes (that you can look up in the mediabrowser of GB) or export as an mp4 movie tot your movies folder, which you can approach as well via the media browser in GB 10.0.1

  • Detaching and exporting audio from iMovie

I know one can 'detach' audio from video in iMovie and move the audio aropund, but is it possible to copy the audio, and import it into iTunes?
Here's the problem: I record my band rehearsing with a flip video camera and run the footage into iMovie, which, naturally, recognises the audio separately. So there should be a way of exporting the audio to iTunes so it might be playable through an iPod without having to go to all the trouble of burning a DVD... shouldn't there?

I have the same question as the above user. I "shared" my iMovie project via QuickTime, saving it as an AIFF file. But GarageBand will not import or open an AIF file. Now what?

  • How to remove audio from iMovie

I recorded a video on my Sony camera and now after watching the clip there was something I said on that clip that I do not want the other person to know about it once I burn the clip to a DVD disc.   Is there anyway to do this and how?   If there is may you please provide step by step instructions on how to do it.
    Thank you.
    Ebrahim

Two quick Videos you should watch.
    1) This one from iMovie 08 covers the basics.
    2) this one shows the new features in iMovie 11. Choose the one that says All New Audio Editing.
There are two ways to have the audio muted in parts. 1) Select the frames you want to mute (by dragging) so that the yellow border is around them. Then right-click/Split Clip. Then set the Volume slider to zero., using the Audio Tab of the Clip Inspector.
    2) Use the rubber banding as shown in Video #2.

  • Detaching Audio from iMovie Clip - iMovie 9 (2011)

I am using iMovie 9 (2011 - latest). I am trying to detach Audio from a portion of a video clip. I have the Video in the viewer section. I have selected the portion of the Video that were I want to detach the Audio. I read that I have to use Advanced tools to do this (new method). I turned on "Advanced Tools" in the Preferences section. Now I still do not have the menu option to use "Advance Tools" and Extract the Audio. Could you please tell me what I may have missed? Thanks

If you right click on the clip, you should see Detach Audio in the selection box.
I think it is also in the Edit menu.
If you want to detach audio for only a portion of a clip, first select the portion, then right-click/Split Clip. Then right-click/Detach Audio.

  • Is there a way to export audio from iMovies?

I have extracted audio from a video clip that I wish to put into my iTunes library. I was wondering if there is an easy way to do this?
    Many thanks.

One way is to drag the extracted audio clip onto your desktop. Then open iTunes and import it in from the file menu.

  • Moving edited audio from iMovie to iDVD?

I'm running iMovie HD 5.0.2 and iDVD 5.0.1. I've been taking some old programs off my Tivo, editing out commercials and burning them to DVD.
Everything has been running pretty well (though, of course, there are thousands of features of the programs which I'm not using and of which I'm probably unaware), but I recently had a problem that I can't figure out.
I did search through these discussions and found the answer to a problem I had: I couldn't figure out why several edited twenty-five to thirty second clips created from longer ones (copy and paste), when pasted into iDVD drop zones only played from the beginning of the original seven minute clip. Then, as I said, I found that I needed to Share them in iMovie HD as QT files and then use the Import function of iDVD. This worked fine.
However, I can't figure out how to do the same thing with audio only. When I edit the audio to a shortened 25-30 second sound clip which I want to drag into iDVD for a menu soundtrack, it takes the entire seven minute long audio track.
So, if I need to do a Share, how do I extract just the audio. Whenever I try it, it takes the whole thing. Dragging and Dropping does the same.
Is this even possible in iMovie HD? Can it be used to edit and then save an audio clip as an aiff or mp3 file?
Would someone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you.

When you share, select Quicktime, then choose 'expert settings'. Then from that menu choose 'audio only to aiff'.

  • Exporting Photos / Audio from Imovie to DVD

    Hi,
I've created a slide show with a "mixed audio track" in IMovie. Its a slide show for my wedding and I want to be able to pop in the CD into a player and sit back and watch it.
Using the IMovie directions...every time I try to export this it either asks for my video connection....or won't allow me to do it. I've created all the fades / music to work together all ready...but I just want to be able to burn this to a disk. Can anyone offer suggestion on how to do this easily. I'm not to Mac and learning..but am running out of time with my wedding approaching. Thanks in advance. I do have the basic programs and have Final Cut Express HD too.

    Hi Bill
-- I want to be able to pop in the CD into a player --
Why not to a DVD ?
If You can stand the idea of a DVD then instead of Export/Share to iDVD do:
    Close iMovie
    Locate Your project icon/folder
    icon when using iMovie 5/HD
Ctrl-click on this and select - show package
in this locate a folder - share movie
in this locate a folder - iDVD
in this there is a QT movie file (just a ref - not the whole thing)
take this "project name".mov file and drop it into an open theme window
in iDVD (just inside the edge of it so that it not ends up as a hot button)
adjust Your DVD theme to Your liking and then go to FILE menu
and select make a disk image.
When - several hours later - it is ready. Try it with Apple DVD-player.
If OK then burn it either with iDVD (and some more hours of coding or
with Apple Disk utility tool (be sure to select make a movie DVD - so it
doesn't end up with a Data-DVD) (last suggestion is really out of my knowledge.
Haven't tried it ! (but everybody else writes about it so it must work)
    or
To get Your movie back to the Camera. I don't use Share function in iMovie.
I just cheque in iMovies. pref. Play-back via camera.
Then put in a fresh tape.
Set the camera in VTR mode (not filming but playing)
press record on the Camera and play in iMovie.
    Wait
    OK!
    Yours Bengt W

  • Use audio from iMovie for menu in iDVD

I would like to use 30 seconds of audio out of a 30 min. video for use in a menu in iDVD.
    I seem to have to detach audio, but that lets me only use it within iMovie;
Export audio seems to export the whole movie.
Is there an elegant way to extract these 30 seconds outside iMovie?
    Thank you very much!

    • duplicate your Project in iMovies Project Browser
    • 'trim' that Project to the wanted 30secs
    • Share/Export using Quicktime - there's a drop-down menu, allowing to choose 'aiff'
    • drag created audio file into your iDVD Project's info window of the menu

  • How to I synchronize video from Imovie and audio from garageband?

I recorded the audio in Garageband and the video thru my video camera. I then captured the video in Imovie and attached the audio to the project from garageband. I can't seem to be able to synchronize both.I clicked on the green area and clicked "trim" and when the waveform appeared, I moved the handle back and forth, but video and audio never synced. I also went to my project and tried to pull the video or the audio back and forth, but it also never synced.
What are the steps to take to achieve this?

If you want the video and audio to automatically sync, Final Cut Pro X is the tool of choice, but it is more expensive than iMovie, and it has a big learning curve.
With iMovie, you can still do this by showing the wave forms and lining them up visually. There is a nuance that in iMovie, you must have video. You cannot have sound that exists outside a video element. For you, this means that if your GB track is the same length or longer than your iMovie video track, you cannot shift it side to side. This is easily fixed by adding some dummy clips before and after your video so there is room to slide the track back and forth. You can find these "Black Background" clips (and others) under the Maps tab.
I recently had to sync up some audio with video. Here is a post that explains in detail how I did it. It may help. Unfortunately, in my case, I was syncing the audio from 2 cameras. This is easier than syncing video with an audio track, but some of the tricks may still apply.
If anything still does not make sense, please ask.
One more thing. When you have an audio track like one created in GB, it is not simple in iMovie to delete a chunk of it and delete the corresponding video at the same time. Once again, this is a task better suited for Final Cut Pro X.  It is possible to export your movie to the Media Browser and then continue editing it in GB, so that may be an option for you.

  • Record Video in iMovie 09 with Audio From Garageband

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to record a guitar video using iMovie 09 and am having a few problems.
I plugged my POD X3 into my Mac and opened up Garageband, I imported the backing track into Garageband as I wanted to record myself playing over it. I set the audio in both System Preferences and Garageband preferences to have the audio input and output coming through the POD X3.
I hit record on iMovie and I got the sound of my guitar perfectly but no backing track! When I tried to import the backing track into iMovie I can't get it to sync up... Anyone have any ideas?

???? Why are you hitting record in iMovie?? It has nothing to do with GB!
I thing what you want to do is: Import the backing track into iMovie and place it in the project as needed.
To record yourself in iMovie, use Voice Over:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-voiceover
Otherwise, record yourself as an instrument in GB and export the combined backing track and yourself to a single audio file (i.e. Share to iTunes - uncompressed - and your recording will be available directly from the iMovie media browser). Place the combined file where you need it in the iMovie project. This gives you that advantage of having access the GB amp modeler and stomp boxes.

  • Can I just extract the audio from my iMovie creations?

I have made some nice videos of my band on iMovie, and am wondering if I can just extract the audio from those to have in iTunes to listen to live audio versions of our songs.

share/Export with Quicktime/drop down menu choose aiff..
    exported file contains audio-only.
use iTunes/Garageband/Audacity/.. to convert into smaller aac, mp3 whatever..

  • Import audio to iMovie via GarageBand

In the 2012 version of iMovie for iOS it was possible to import audio from GarageBand via the Open In menu. This option seems to be broken in the 2014 version. Nothing happens when I get sent from Garageband to iMovie, before I could select which movie project to open the GarageBand song or audio in.
    Is this a known bug?

  • How to optimize audio in Imovie w/GarageBand

Help. I've shot something with a Canon T2 and imported it into Imovie. The picture quality is great but the sound is average. I purchased an H1 Recorder/mic to use as a mic but still the sound is average. I understand that I could use garageband to easily optimize the sound but am unable to bring an imovie sound file into garage band. Is there some way of doing this that I'm not seeing. When I try to import into garageband, the video files are dimmed and unselectable.
Currently, I'm recording everything (sound and audio) with the camera and importing the whole thing into imovie. Should I make a seperate file with the H1 Handy Recorder and open that up in Garage Band then sync the optimized file with the Imovie File. If so, what sound file format would I need to use to be able to open something up in GarageBand.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How do you record video with usb mic and have the audio from garageband be the sound when recording and not just your normal voice but garage band effects for youtube?

How do you record video with usb mic and have the audio form garageband be apart of the video when recording, meaning the audio from garageband and echo  and not just your normal voice for youtube post?its not add the garageband audio its just normal voice from mic no  effects is going thru?

    Hi Life93,
What you describe would be possible by recording your video, then removing the audio from it and adding audio from GarageBand once the video is in iMovie (I presume here that you are using iMovie for your video production. Other applications may need different methods.)

  • When I upload audio from itunes into my imovie project, it does not show all of the track?

Hi, I have opened a new project in imovie - I have uploaded 200 photos into the project to make a Comic Book movie!
this project is 7 mins and 8 seconds long - the exact length of the audio track that I want to play during the movie!
I have selected the music by clicking the musical note button in imovie, which open up my itunes library and displays the track I want to use that is 7 mins and 8 seconds long.
When I click and drag my MP3 audio from itunes into my imovie project, i only plays the first 5 mins & 33 seconds; leaving my project in silence for the final 1 min & 3 seconds????
I have not added markers, there are no fade ins or fade outs - only the first 5 min & 33 seconds or a 7 min & 8 seconds MP3 Audio track???
I have spent 10 hours trying to rectify this problem.......
can anyone help me with this problem
