Audio from the mini to speakers

I use an HP monitor with built-in speakers.  The VGA/mini-display port supports the video just great.  The audio uses a 3.5mm connector into the audio out port on my brand new mini.  It worked fine on my old mini but the new one is silent.  THe speakers buzz when I plug in the cable but that is it.

Are you sure that you are plugging the plug into the headphone port and not the mic/line-in port?
If you go to System Preferences>Sounds>Output is the headphone output selected?

  • Redirecting audio from the mini box to the TB display

    I just installed the TB display update (12 Dec 2011).  On completion I'm prompted to select a connectivity.  Not understanding the ramifications, I select connection to the mini.  I now get the audio from the mini and not the TB display.  A big comedown.
    The question is how to redirect the audio to the TB displays speakers rather than the mini and its tiny speakers.

    To set up sound input:
    1 Choose Apple () > System Preferences, and then click Sound.
    2 Click the Input tab in Sound preferences.
    3 Choose Display Audio to input sound through your display’s microphone.
    To set up sound output:
    1 Choose Apple () > System Preferences, and then click Sound.
    2 Click the Output tab in Sound preferences.
    3 Choose Display Audio to hear sound through your display’s speaker system.
    These sound settings are used whenever your display is connected to your computer. They remain in effect until you change them.

  • No audio from the mini port to hdmi

    I was under the idea that if I wanted to convert my
    Mini port to hdmi I would get audio as well. Am I missing something?

    If your MBP was made before April 2010, there is no audio output from the Mini-Displayport, and you'll need to run a separate audio cable from your headphone port to the TV.

  • I only get sound from the computer's speakers even though I put in headphones

    I have for a while now had the problem that I only get sound from the computer's speakers even though i plug in the headphones, I have rebooted the computer but still the same problem occurs. So i thought there might be someting wrong in the settings, when i open the soundsettings and plug in my headphones nothing happens, usually I believe there should be a text appearing that says that the sound is now going to headphones, am I right? any how, it still just sends the sound out to the speakers and there is no option to send it else where then "soundflower 2ch and soundflower 16ch".
    I do have an external sound card, for music recording, that goes through USB, and when i plug that in i get the option to send the sound to that device and also to recive sound and i can also choose if i want to sent it to the computer's speakers. So could it be someting wrong with the headphone jack?

    Good day!
    Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
    Boot into the System Bios and make sure that Onboard Devices- Integrated Audio is On. Then exit the System Bios saving the change. Once back into Windows, open the Device Manager and make sure that ADI1983 HDA appears under Sound devices. Then re-test the rear green audio jack #4 using headphones. Also, reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message so that I can look into the details of the system and assist you better.
    Have a great day ahead.

  • From the mini to the nano

    I have a question. When I upgrade from the mini to the nano, I have to install the new itunes, right? But do I want to completely uninstall the earlier itunes? I fear that I'll lose all of my music in the process.

    You don't need to install iTunes if you already have it, just connect the Nano.

  • Problem: Audio from the video plays, but video does not show.

    Hi,
    I used the following code to play the video. The audio from the video plays displaying the player but there is no visual.
    There is no problem with the video as I have tried several other videos with .mpg and .mov extensions.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import javax.media.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class MediaPanel {
        JFrame frame = new JFrame("Movie Player");
        static Player player = null;
        public MediaPanel(){
            try{ // method using URL
                URL url=new URL("file",null,"c:\\temp\\A.mpg");
                player = Manager.createRealizedPlayer(url);
            } catch( Exception e) {
                System.out.println(" Unable to create the audioPlayer :" + e );
            Component control = player.getControlPanelComponent();
            frame.getContentPane().add( control, BorderLayout.CENTER);
            frame.addWindowListener( new WindowAdapter() {
                public void windowClosing(WindowEvent we) {
                    MediaPanel.stop();
                    System.exit(0);
            frame.pack();
            frame.setSize( new Dimension(600,600) );
            frame.setVisible(true);
            player.start();
        public static void stop(){
            player.stop();
            player.close();
        public static void main( String args[]){
            MediaPanel panel = new MediaPanel();
    }

    use this code "Component control = player.getVisualComponent(); "
    instead of this code " Component control = player.getControlPanelComponent();"
    But if you want show both of them, modify as following
    Component control1 = player.getControlPanelComponent();
    Component control2 = player.getVisualComponent();
    then add the two control (control1 & control2 ) to your JFrame panel

  • How To keep CNiKnob from going directly from the Min axis value to the Max axis value?

    When a user drags the pointer on a CNiKnob with the mouse, he/she is able to drag the pointer directly from the minimum axis value to the maximum axis value.
    This is obviously unacceptable. So is there a way to disable this behavior or a work around?

    Unfortunately, there is not an easy way to do this with CNiKnob. One way you could work around it would be to handle the CNiKnob's OnPointValueChanged event and keep track of the previous value, then detect if the value jumps from the min to the max or vice versa and if it does, set it back.
    If you migrate to .NET in the future, the Measurement Studio Windows Forms .NET Knob control lets you easily configure this and is the default behavior when you add a Knob to your form. For more info, see the documentation for the Knob.InteractionMode property.

  • On iMovie how can you mute a section of the sound track so you can hear the audio from the video clip?

    .

    Hey,
    If you double-click on the soundtrack you can open it up in the inspector tab and lower the soundtrack so that you can hear the audio from the video clip.
    A great resource for finding answers to questions like this is http://www.imovietutorialhelp.com
    You can ask questions just like these and they will be answered for you. If you need a tutorial video made or anything like that, you can go there as well and ask for a video to made as well. Check it out.

  • I have no audio from the mac mini to the hdtv via hdmi cable.

    This started immediately after the latest "apple software update"  I updated it automatically on 6/24/2011.  I have an elgato eye tv connected to the mac mini that provides BOTH audio and video through the HDMI to the HDTV.  The elgato eye tv works fine.  I get both audio and video.
    However, I only get picture and NO sound from the mac mini to the HDTV via the HDMI output.  No streaming audio either - only picture. Ive tried pandora, netflix, hulu, etc.  I even put in a DVD into the mac mini and again I receive a picture through THE HDMI but no audio.
    I've shutdown and rebooted.  I've disconnected power and reconnected power.  I've gone into the system preferences, audo, and highlight the SONY HDTV as the output.  But still nothing.  I do notice when I toggle between the "internal speakers' and the HDMI option, the audio arrow on the lower right is bright blue during the internal speakers option but is grey when the HDMI option is connected.
    I called apple care.  Since I'm 98 days past my 90 days of coverage there is no help via human being.  They offered me to set an appointment at the local apple store but they suggested I bring down my 60 inch HDTV with me to the store to be sure it is not a "Sony" issue.  I hope someone can help me resolve this without having to put this mac mini on craigslist and taking a $ hit.
    This was not an issue yesterday.  It became an issue after the latest and greatest "update" to prepare our machines for the lovely lion.
    Thanks.

    I have the same issue.  I also have the 2010 mac mine and use hdmi for audio to my receiver.  I get audio from eye tv with no problems, but it seems to lock the path so that only it can use that path for audio.  If I restart the computer and do not start eye tv everything else works with hdmi audio.  I have tried using the system settings and changing the source there but it doesnt seem to matter.

  • IDT driver update = No sound from the built-in speakers

    I just recently bought an HP - dv6 WF536AV Laptop.
    The sounds were proper from the built-in Altec Lansing speakers , till i updated the audio drivers via HP Support Utility.
    Now i do not get any playback from the speakers mentioned above, but while plugging in my iPod headphones, there is audio in the headphones.
    I've tried to reinstall the IDT Audio driver from the HP Support utility as well as one downloaded from the website :
    IDT High-Definition Audio Driver  6.10.6289.0
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-86241-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...
     Yet, nothing is resolved.
    Of what i understood from various articles on the web, was that the new driver sets the headphone jack as the primary device for audio output and hence it does not reach the speakers.
    Also , I'm pretty sure of this not being a hardware conflict since the laptop is recently purchased and i've rarely used the headphone jack.
    Following are the details about my system :

    Hi,
    From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and then open Device Manager.  Click the small arrow next to Sound Video and Game Controllers, right click on the IDT High Definition Audio Codec and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab then click on 'Roll back Driver'.  Click yes or Ok to any further prompts and let the process complete.  Reboot the PC and see if your sound is back.  If it is not repeat this process again.
    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,

     Everything was fine on the machine in the device manager . All the windoes services related to audio are running.
     Even the sound Icon on the toolbar when expanded showing green color up and dows indicating that it is playing sound .But Ii am not able to hear anything.
     The laptop configuration is as follows :

    Intel (R) cORE I5 .

    Sasi,
    There are many different g6's, so that is not the product number.  I'd suggest calling in and speaking to a live rep, since you should still be in warranty if you purchased new.

  • Is there a way to use TV out but continue to play the audio from the iphone?

    is there a way to use TV OUT but keep playing the audio on the iphone? I have a projector that works well but the speakers are broken, would be great if i could still play the sound from my iphone

    What if you connect external speakers to the projector? I do not believe you can redirect the audio to the phone when you are using the video/audio out.
