Audio glitches in IDVD

I created in iDVD and in this placed a slideshow. I attached a playlist I created in iTunes to play with the slideshow. It works perfectly when I view it on the computer. However, when I burn a DVD and play it, the music in the slide show hesitates/glitches about every 10 seconds. I have check to see that every program I am using is updated and that my OS is updated. Any ideas what causes the problems with the burned DVD when it's fine in the computer before burning?

The important thing is it finally worked. If the iDvd plays on 3rd party set top dvd players (or at least most of these devices) as well as within apple's dvd player app then iDvd did indeed do the job asked of it. Now if you'd like to make the burned dvd-r even more "universal" in terms of playback (and if it were my iDvd project) I'd also consider burning a copy through Roxio Toast (or apple's disc utility) as well as using Verbatim Dvd-R and burning at a reduced speed like 4x.
Hope this info helps but if not just come on back.

  • Audio glitches every 11 min. 42 sec. in iDVD 6

i burned a slideshow in iDVD and added music but every 11 minutes 42 sec. it goes to a new "title" and the audio glitches right there. What am I doing to create this "title"......I'm very new at this and am sure its something I must have to turn off....?????

Check to see if the problem is happening at the 99th slide. iDVD slideshows can hang up there. If so, reduce to 98.
I make my slideshows in iPhoto instead of iDVD, then File/Export to my desktop and drag the resulting Quicktime movie into the edge of the iDVD project's main window. You won't have the glitch at No. 99, if that's the problem.

  • Audio jumps in idvd slideshow

On my G4 pwrbk, I created an iDVD project with a movie from iMovie and added some photos from iPhoto to My Slideshow in iDvd. Its about 30 jpegs and I scored it to one audio track lasting about 3 minutes. I put transitions between the photos, and in preview, before I burn the disc, the slideshow is sharp. Seamless. Glorious.
After the disc is burned, I view it on a Dvd player and now there are audio glitches in the slideshow only, when the pictures change(the music pauses inbetween the picture transitions). Now all of a sudden, the slideshow is stunted and lurching! Never had this problem before, the movie itself plays without flaw.
Of course I imagined it a fluke and reburned it again. Repeat failure. Next I changed the audio track. After that I changed the transitions between photos. Now more desperate, I scratched the whole iDVD project and started over from iMOVIE and iPHOTO. After creating a whole new iDVD project it still does it. I am out of ideas and have 5 less blank DVDs.
    Helplease.

as far as the 12/16 bit is concerned, i believe it is 12 bit
    That could be your problem.
First reset the camera so all future filming is with 16 bit.
    Look at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61636
There is another workaround by taking the clips and doing extract audio from the advanced menu in iMovie.

  • Audio glitches with each effect/title

I'm starting to actually work with iMovie now and my first real project is giving me fits. I made a slideshow in another program, including music. I exported it as DV and imported it into iMove. I added a few titles and one effect. iMovie, of course, splits the movie into clips with each of these operations. The movie plays perfectly in iMovie and also in Quicktime Player - the problem pops up when I burn the DVD in iDVD (maybe I need to post this in the iDVD forum, but see below). At every single split (beginning and end) there is an audible glitch - an interruption, if you like. The result is totally unusable, of course.
The slideshows I have done so far(I'm using Photo To Movie) all render perfectly in iDVD, even including this one. It was only after I put this one into iMovie and edited it that I got this problem.
Has anyone else experienced this? I can't believe everybody has this happen, because Apple would never have been able to release the program in this state. So I must be doing something wrong, but what?
I sure hope somebody has an answer for this one, as I'm in deep doo-doo otherwise.
    Thanks.

I doubt the audio problem you describe has to do with the number of audio tracks you use or how you've used them. In fact, I'm not even sure it has anything to do with iMovie. These things get complicated real fast, and this project has gotten complicated.
You've imported video clips created in a different application to iMovie to join them together, then passed the iMovie project along to iDVD. Apparently something in that process is affecting iDVD's ability to encode the audio. That's not too surprising, actually. If there's a tiny audio flaw anywhere, iDVD may not be able to encode the DVD properly, causing an audible defect. (iDVD's job is convert an iMovie project to the MPEG-2 format used by DVD players. If the material we hand it isn't perfect, we might hear a burp. Interestingly, the burp may be more obvious on some DVD players than others.)
You said Photo to Movie movies work fine sent straight to iDVD. But that never "joins" the clips in the same way as importing them to iMovie does. iDVD encoding each separately doesn't present the same challenge as joining them in one movie. Joining requires a perfect match.
The solution may be to export the iMovie project to a Full Quality movie that you import to iDVD. Exporting to Full Quality will export to a QuickTime movie that's a DV Stream. That will "flatten" the audio, making it far easier for iDVD to handle. If there's a "burp" where clips come together, exporting might eliminate it. Or a least change the burp into sweet silence.
That's where I'd start. Export the iMovie project to a Full Quality movie. Drag that movie into the window of a new iDVD project.
If that still doesn't work, there's one more thing to try. It sometimes helps to slow down the burn speed. Instead of using iDVD to burn the DVD — which doesn't let us slow it down — use iDVD to create a disk image of the encoded video. Use the File > Save as Disk Image command to create a disk images instead of burning a DVD. (Not available in older versions of iDVD.) Open that disk image in Disk Utility and use Disk Utility to burn the DVD, choosing the slowest burn rate possible.
    Keep us posted.

  • Audio Glitches on Timeline, but not when played in QT?

I had a client send me his project on a harddrive.
They exported a .mov file from FCP and it has no audio glitches when played with Quicktime.
But if i drag that file to a timeline and watch it through my DSR-25 to a NTSC monitor, it has audio glitches in certain spots.
Always at that spot though and if i watch the file in Quicktime, it plays fine.
All audio was exported originally out of FCP using Quicktime Movie with 48khz, 16 bit stereo so nothing needed to be rendered.
Seems like it has something to do with it going over via firewire through my DSR-25.
Has anyone else had this problem.
I can't make a Master DVCam tape for this master because of these audio glitches.
    Thanks for any help,
    Brian

I read a post about a user having this same sort of issue.
He said when he turns off his video layer, in my case just V1, the audio played fine.
    Same with mine.
So it seems to be an issue with the video track playing with the audio track.
If i export it and bring it back in, will it just create that same audio glitch?
Guess i will have to try.
Anyone have this issue or similiar?
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Audio Glitch in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 Timeline (not a clip problem - it's the timeline space)

I have an audio glitch that appears to be tied to a space in my timeline and not to a certain audio clip.  If I drag or move the audio clip further up or down the timeline it plays fine.  If I move a different audio file into this area, the audio drops out in the same area, even with volumes set where they need to be.  There are absolutely no keyframes set in this area and I want to be clear about that.   However, this issue did come up only the software froze on me as I was loading my project.  I believe my best bet is to delete delete my media cach and media cache files so that clips are reconformed... unless someone has additional input or has experienced similar issue with the sound.
As a note, I also reinstalled Quicktime.  I am working with AVI files/aac auio codec.

No. You will not find any Master Track Keyframes. These will be on the Audio Track, and will be attached to the Track, regardless of what Clip you have there. Here is a look at Track Keyframes, not to be confused with Clip Keyframes from PrPro 2.0:
Hope that this helps and good luck,

  • Audio Glitch in Apple DVD player when at the end of a story

Hi Could anyone shine a light on why when I build and open up my dvd project in Apple dvd player there is an audio glitch. But on the original mpeg there is no audio glitch there. I have chapter markered my project in fcp. I have ten storys and one chapter in each story.
when played on a dvd player the glitches are not heard
Any help on this matter would be great.
    sam

in Apple dvd player there is an audio glitch. But on the original mpeg there is no audio glitch there.
when played on a dvd player the glitches are not heard
Have you played the DVD with more than one player without hearing glitches? What, exactly is the glitch? A click? In any case what you report suggests that there is a problem with Apple's DVD Player.
Do you hear the glitch when you play the DVD (the physical disk) with Apple's DVD Player?
I seem to be having a similar problem, but I haven't burned a disk and used a DVD player to play it. See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1863240&tstart=0
DVDSP shows my soundtrack file to be longer than what it actually is. Is that the case in your situation?

  • Audio burp after idvd burn, but fine on computer preview

Help. I created a dvd using idvd 6 for a wedding with 179 slides and 4 songs. First burn with 140 slides and 3 songs was fine. Second burn after 40 additional slides and 4th song has a burp in the 3rd song. Removed songs and re-added but has the exact same problem after burning again. It plays fine on the computer. Is there anything I can do to correct the encoding or burning process? Wedding is in 2 days. aarg. Thanks,

    Hi
Where did Your audio originate ? (file type)
    • Audio-CD (normal one)
    • From iTunes (Copy out as an Audio-CD (.aiff)
    • .mp3, .avi, .wmv etc ?
I only use .aiff audio in my projects except audio from miniDV tape Camera.
    I would
    • trash iDVD pref file
    • secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk IMPORTANT
    • first replace all strange audio with .aiff audio
    • skip the iDVD project and make a fresh new one
    • make a DiskImage and test this with Apple DVD-player
    • still OK Burn either via iDVD or rather from the DiskImage with
Apple Disk Util tool (or easier Roxio Toast™)
    on as alreaddy stated
    • Verbatim DVD
    • DVD-R (no +R or+/-RW)
    • at an as slow burn-speed possibly (eg x1)

  • Serious audio glitch problem in 9.1.1 - please help!

Got a problem with audio glitching that is driving me insane - hopefully someone can help (please! :_))
I'm on Logic 9.1.1 on a recent MacPro using 10.5.8, 12Gb memory. I've created an arrangement in Logic with two multi timbral / multi-output instruments (Kontakt and Stylus RMX - both up to date versions) with aux outputs for all of the instruments channels; 16 in the case of Kontakt, 8 in the case of RMX.
I'll work with this setup and after a while I find that whenever I play and then press stop, a tiny portion of audio will repeat rapidly, over and over again in the 'master' left output channel at +6.0dB - it also shows up on all the instrument auxes at a much lower level. It's as if Aphex Twin has invaded my Mac... Weirdly, this problem crops up even if I'm not outputting anything from the multi-instruments - it's enough that say, an EXS instrument, plays something, I'll press stop, and then the glitch signal will appear in all the level meters of the multi instruments and master output, but not on the EXS level meter. If I press play again, the glitch disappears and audio playback is perfect - it only happens when stop is pressed. And no sign of it if there's a silent part in the arrangement with no tracks playing anything.
If I have any instances of reverb on bus channels, that audio will will also feed into the left channel of those busses, even when there are no channel strips sending to them. Weird as ****, and driving me up the wall with frustration.
I've omitted it being down to my audio interface (Metric Halo 2882) as the problem persists if I switch to the Mac internal I/O.
I'm trying to work through this at the mo as I've got a deadline for 2pm this afternoon - but I'm worried I might not make it due to throwing my feckin computer out the window. Please help - thanks!

If your deadline wasn't looming, I'd say buss everything to a stereo track and record this stuff. It sounds great, you could use it in another project later...
But to your problem: The only quick solution I can think of for you to try is to create a brand new fresh project and use the selective track import feature to bring your tracks into the new project. Don't start from an old template (that you may still be using since Logic 8 or something) because this could indeed be the root of the problem. Build a new template from Logic 9.1.1, then make a new project from that and import all your tracks. If it's your project that's corrupted somehow, this could be the trick to solve it, and it won't take too long to try, so it's worth a shot.
I'm not sure of this, but something is telling me I've seen this problem before, and if so it was on Leopard (not Snow Leopard) on a MacPro in the studio. Have never had it on my personal MBP (which was only ever Tiger and then Snow Leopard - I skipped Leopard on purpose because the studio machines seemed so very dicey). Also, I don't use RMX on my own machine but in the studio, yes. Same deal for multiple output instruments, I rarely do that either. On that point, another thing you could try is to forget about multiple outs for now, and just work with stereo instances. Yes I realize this will mess up your entire painstakingly built-up mix.. but if this is causing the flakiness you may have no choice but to go back to stereo instances, finish your writing, then do the whole mute/solo thing to bounce your individual parts to audio and proceed from there. In this scenario, selective track import will be a timesaver too because once you've done all the bouncing, you can just create a new project and import all of your channel strips and so on, to then re-assign the individually bounced tracks to the assignments you had before. Will be quicker to recreate your mix than having to do it from scratch. Or you might not even need to do this step because if eliminating the multi-out instruments makes the prob go away, then you can just recreate your assignments within the same project using the bounced audio tracks.
    Get to it.
Once you've delivered.. I'd open that project again and record all of that lovely Aphex Twin messiness for later use.

  • MPEG Streamclip Audio Glitch

Hi, I've been using MPEG Streamclip without any problems... until recently. Has anyone else experiened audio dropping out or glitching when exporting mov's from VOB's?
The audio keeps dropping out in the same place, even when I run MPEG streamclip on a different G5. Playing back the DVD, the audio is fine, it's only when you listen to the mov that you hear the glitches.
Is this a common error? If so, what can do the job of MPEG Streamclip, without the nonsense with the audio glitching?

Well, not if the DVD plays back fine with no glitches. It's only the mov from MPEG Streamclip that has audio issues. I also used Drop2DV on the same VOB and the audio came out fine, however the lack of control in exporting makes me want to figure out what is wrong with MPEG Streamclip.

Hi I have Windows 7 and a PCI X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card. (Not PCI-E). My problem is I get random audio glitches when listening to music or playing a game. No card I have had before had this problem. My computer is fast enough and I have the latest Windows 7 X-Fi Xtreme Audio driver installed. So what might be causing this?

#Did this happen right after you install the sound card new or did this happen out of the blue?

  • Audio glitches at the start of video

    Hello,
i have a few audio glitches at the start of the video.
This happens only at the start of the video, at the first 30-40 sec, where there is a music soundtrack.
I am using encore 2.0 and a portable HP Pavilion dv4000.
The video was coming from a dv tape that was captured with windows movie maker as avi and imported as avi to encore.
But the sound was changed to 48 khz, at the edit (Avid).
    Please i need your help.

    Neil,
Thanks for the response. I started looking for Audioblack in the New Asset list, the Transitions and Effects, all through Audition, manuals, Internet, everything, and about all that I found was reference to an indie band - "Audioblack," or comments attributed to you. I have a lot of material from Dolby, from when I first began using 5.1 Surround in DVDs, but did not see this term there. It was probably in some of their more technical papers, and not the "primer" course ones, that I already had. You very clearly pointed out *what* the problem was likely to be, but I wanted clarification as to the exact solution. You cleared that up beautifully.
Based on one of your earlier replies along these lines, I instituted a 2 sec. gap in my Audio Tracks at the beginning of all Timelines, as part of my workflow - 2 sec. Black Video, Dip to Black to 1st Title, and silence on my Audio Track, but was becoming worried, that I needed to create an actual Audio Clip with certain properties. I see that my interpretation of Audioblack works.
I had not encountered the problems, that some others had, but then my test DVD players are all higher-end Marantz units, and who knows what a client is likely to try and play the DVDs on? I wanted to establish a workflow, that would give me the greatest chance of success, regardless of the hardware. Thanks to you, and to others, I am honing my workflow, as well as I can.
I think, based on some other responses, that involve hardware, that I will dig up a very old, and cheap Panasonic DVD from my gym, to use as a test machine - doesn't get much older, or cheaper, than that.
    Greatly appreciated,
    Hunt
PS I still use an older Cambridge as the rear-channel amp out of my Carver C-400 pre. Great unit and still going strong!

  • Fix found: Broadcom drivers, Firewire audio and audio glitches

    Hi,
I've been working with MOTU (Mark of the Unicorn) trying to get my 828mk3 firewire audio device to work properly under Vista 64-bit in Boot camp (note I had same problems with 32-bit version).
The problem was that I would get audio glitches in the form of beeps from my audio device every 30s-1:30s. Each glitch would last about 1s (@10000Hz). After many tests, I discovered when I disabled the Broadcom driver (latest MacBookPro5,1 distributed version), the problem went away.
Does anyone know why a Wifi adapter could affect a Firewire 400 device? Note I had the same problem with my old MacBook3,1.. so the problem is not related to the new MBP.
Anyways, I hope someone fixes the Broadcom driver; never-the-less, if you have this problem, this is your solution
    Thank you,
    Michael

  • Audio Glitch on FCE project

Hi, I am very green to Macs and FCE. I am working on a FCE project where I imported the audio (I am muting audio from film clips), and I noticed that at various points in the project there is a audio glitch (like a skip). I checked the original mp3 and it is good. I tried to import the sound again into a new audio track, but the glitch is still there and in the same locations. Has anyone encountered this? Any idea on how to fix it?
Also, does multiple layer of video add to the file size if you are not using the video?
Thanks for the help... Loving my Mac! Never going back to PC.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
You should convert your audio to AIFF at the same sample rate as your Sequence. See this link:
