Audio Glitching On Mew Mac Mini

I've got a brand new mini. Spec below. I had to upgrade...
Using L9.1.8  with Apogee Ensemble with latest Maverick drivers.....
The audio stutters evry 10 or so minutes. No crashes but frustrating....
I did a clean install from my original Logic 9 Disks
I'm using a Lacie Thunderbolt 2 Big Ext Drive
MY WHOLE RIG WAS STABLE ON MY MBP RUNNING LION.
Anyone??

Update CCTM
Just spoke to Apogee. Audio Glitching is a known issue with Macs with Fusion Drive.
10.9.2 Fixes this AND the grphics lag.

  • HD Audio Pass Through on Mac Mini HDMI port

There have been various threads realting to this but nothin up to date or resolved as i can determine.  I plan to use a Mac Mini as the core AV processor in a high end 8 channel sound system in a home cinema set up.  The mac mini runing XBMC or similar will need to process high definitiion video files that contain Dolby and DTS True HD 8 channels bit streams and be able to pass these streams unchanged and uncompressed to the HDMI port for external decoding.
In previous threads it was identified that there was a hardware and/or OSX operating system limitation that prevented this.  Has this now been solved? It seems surprising that Apple of all people would get this one wrong.  As I have not yet purchased the Mac mini then i am not in a position to experiment as my 2010 macbook probably is not the same hardware.
    Thanks

I know this thread is a little old now, but I've been wondering the same thing myself - so I googled it and came up with this thread.
I've just bought a new 7.1 Amp, the Yamaha RXV677 from Richer Sounds. It handles DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 and Dolby TrueHD 7.1. Up until now I've not been able to try this sound format out as my current 2009 Mac Mini only sends audio through the Optical Out, so the best I can get is Dolby Digital 5.1 pass thru via S/PDIF. I was quite happy with this arrangement, until I get around to buying a blu-ray player. However, I realised my work laptop is a 2014 MacBook Pro with HDMI out. Therefore out of curiosity I decided to download a couple of HD demos from demo-world.eu that have DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio tracks embedded in them. I tried opening them up in VLC media player (version 2.1.5) and hooked up my 2014 MacBook Pro via HDMI to my Amp. To my amazement it worked!! - I got glorious 7.1 DTS-MA into my Amp, and it sounded simply stunning!! In VLC I had two HDMI audio devices to choose from 'HDMI' and 'Encoded HDMI' (or something like that - I'll have to hook it up again to be sure). When using straight HDMI output, my Amp read it as 'PCM Audio' but when using 'Encoded HDMI' it read it as 7.1 DTS Audio giving the sample rate and bit rate. I need to spend a bit more time testing this out - but it definitely works, and it definitely plays in surround from all my available speakers (I have a 5.1 setup, so can't test the other 2 surround channels).
I have no reason to believe that this will not work from a current Mac Mini with HDMI - although as yet I can't verify this, and I have only tested using VLC player with a .m2ts file.

  • No audio through tv from mac mini

I recently purchased a Samsung 32" model 5300 Smart TV, and I have a Mac Mini that are connected by a HDMI cord. The audio portion (while in the computer  mode) will not come through the tv only the mac.  I had a non "smart" with no built in wi fi and used the same HDMI cord with no problem - audio came through
tv.  I am at the end of my ropes...ANYONE have a clue what to do?

Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back. Is HDMI even a choice?
Does the TV have other Sound inputs?
And I wonder if this might apply to the pure HDMI port also, what vintage Mini is it?

  • Apple tv delivers audio over hdmi but mac mini does not, why?

My Apple TV, 3rd Gen, delivers audio and video over one HDMI cable. When I have the Mac mini connected I can get only video and this is very frustrating. Has anyone else encountered this situation and can someone tell me how I can fix it?
I would appreciate positive answers, not all of these "I don't know" or "I'm not sure" that I see everywhere.
    Thank you very much!

Have you selected HDMI in System Preferences->Sound->Output?
Also, do you have anything plugged into the Audio Line Out jack of
the Mini.  If so, unplug the device.  On the Mac Mini, pluggng anything
into Line Out disables all other audio outputs.

  • Audio technica turntable to mac mini

please help me sync my audio technica at-lp60, non usb turntable to my mac mini using garage band or itunes. i was told i could use either but i cant get mac to recognize the turntable. please be specific with each step because i am not tech savvy. thanks alot for any info.

Have you selected the Line In as the audio input in
Preferences->Sound?  Also, when in that pane,
there is an input level meter.  Play something on the
turntable and see if there is action on the level display.
    Also, open Applications->Utilities->Audio MIDI Setup.
Select the line in and see what it is set up as.
This is also another posibility, sometimes the plugs can
be a fairly tight fit.  It may seem like it is plugged in but may
need a little extra push to engage it completely.  Mine
    is like that.

  • Digital Audio Broken on a Mac Mini (early 2006)?

I've got an early 2006 Mac Mini 1.83GHz which I'm trying to use as an HTPC. When plugging in an TOSlink to miniplug cable to the audio port I get the "flipover" to Digital Out in sound preferences but no sound from my Pioneer AV receiver. I've made all the correct adjustments in the receiver preferences and tested them with a iMac and sound plays through just fine.
Headphone and Internal speaker work fine on the Mini and the cable is fine as noted above with the iMac test. Is it possible that the optical digital audio portion of this jack is bad?
Apple Support doesn't seem to think it is hardware related. I've re-installed OSX and checked permissions. I don't have the restore disk to be able to do a Apple Hardware Test and the Leopard disk does not contain it.
Any ideas as I've run out aside from taking in to an Apple Store for evaluation?

Took to Apple Store and they fixed the unit with a new digital audio card. $49. I'm happy.

  • Audio in on the mac mini?

I am downloading audio editing software for the mini mac
because I need to edit audio for a job. The audio will have been pre-recorded onto mini disc. Has anyone ever tried to transfer audio from a mini disc
to a mini mac - is it possible? There doesn't seem to be an
obvious audio in socket, as there is on a PC. Only firewire, USB and audio line for headphones/speakers. Does that last one also act as audio in?

As others have said, you'll need some kind of USB interface like the Griffin imic (you'd really need this even with audio in, since that's a line level input). Get a stereo male to male miniplug cable, attach one end to the headphone socket of your minidisc and the other to the imic. If you have a US consumer-grade MD player, the only way to do this is to record analog realtime out the headphone jack. There are one two professional MD models that have optical out, but you still have the problem of the mac not being able to read the proprietary ATRAC format the MD uses.
Audacity is probably the easiest recording program for your mac and it's free.

  • No audio via headphone socket - Mac Mini

    2010 Mac Mini 10.6.8
No output via the headphone jack. Audio is working OK via internal speaker / HDMI / Bluetooth / Airplay.
There is a signal going through the socket and cable as noise can be heard (squeal, squeaks, etc, but not a distinguishable output)
    1) Disconnected all USB's etc
    2) Rebooted with different cables for audio and HDMI
    3) Reset PRAM
    4) Apple Hardware Test - all OK
    5) Tech Tool Test - all OK
    6) Checked all setting in Audio Midi/sound preferences
    Any ideas? - Thanks

Trip to Apple store and Genius Bar (Genius my a**e!), where I had a 2 hour wait, 20 minutes with the Genius (I use the term lightly) to be told what I already knew, plus he thinks the headphone output is connected to main logic board and that will cost almost £300 for parts. Dream-on!
On the way home I purchased a £8 Toslink cable (same was £32 in Apple store) plugged it in and hey presto - perfect sound.
So it looks like the headphone socket is stuck in digital mode.
Well at least it's a marginal improvement. Now off to research & establish how many other folks report same issue.

  • Anyone having Audio Issues with new Mac Mini, new Thunderbolt Display and new Pegasus R4?

I can't listen to the built-in speakers on my brand new Apple thunderbolt monitor to the terrible audio quality.  I'm running Mac Lion on a new Mac Mini with a brand new Promise Pegasus R4 - all purchased in January 2012.   The entire setup is connected via Thunderbust errh, I mean Thunderbolt.

    Hi,
I'm also having an audio problem, which I suspect now is caused by my Thunderbolt display.
See https://discussions.apple.com/message/21499606#21499606 for the small thread.

  • M-Audio Venom and 2012 Mac Mini

       I have had a 2012 Mac Mini for about a month. I am starting to do home audio recording as a hobby. I just purchased an M-Audio Venom keyboard only to find this tidbit on the M-Audio site concerning the Venom;
    • Known Issue: Venom is currently incompatible with USB 3.0 ports. Please use USB 2.0 ports to connect Venom to your system.
Yep I'm a dumbo for not vetting the unit better. So, is there a work around for this? The new Minis have had several issues and I think OS updates, firmware updates, etc. will resolve these issues. I guess this problem lies with the Venom so I will ask M-Audio if they have a fix in the works. I was thinking about purchasing a USB 2 to Firewire 800 adapter but I don't think there is such an animal? At least I couldn't find one?
Any input will be most welcome, thanks.

  • Can anyone recommend audio/midi interface LE7 + Mac mini

    Hi all!
I've been working with LE 7 for some weeks now. My setup is really simple: a Mac mini, LE7, some free plugs, that's it. Now, I've come to the stage when I need to record guitar, bass, keyboard and add some vocals. Could someone please recommend a decent interface that is compatible with my setup?! I don't have very hi-tech requirements, I just want something that works. No need for lots of inputs, and I've only got one keyboard. FireWire or USB should not matter, unless you know what to prefer. Low budget....
    Many thanks in advance!

Firewire Interfaces are always better than USB ones for audio. I really love the Focusrite Saffire but maybe it's more than what you're willing to pay. You could also check out Presonus Firebox or M-Audio FW Solo. However, M-Audio drivers are sometimes a little on the buggy side. If you want to go the USB way, I'd check Tascam's US-122.

  • Audio/Bass Control For Mac Mini

Recently bought a new Mac Mini and I have an old Logitech Z-5300 speakers attached to it. Is there anyway to turn the bass down through the OS? I have the bass turned down to 0 on the speaker unit itself and the bass volume is still coming through very high and I need to turn it down so I don't disturb my neighbor in the next room. Thanks.

    Glorius wrote:
I am also searching for a solution to adjust the bass on my mac. But there seems to be really no solution for it on the Apple computers.
For music playback, iTunes provides an equalizer.
If you want a global control for this, unfortunately there is none.
If this is important to you, one solution would be to use an outboard hi-fi stereo equalizer.
I am completely disappointed!!! This will be my last mac computer!!!
If you honestly believe this one drawback to the Mac negates all the positive aspects of the platform, then you'll be happier as a Windows user.

  • Poor audio quality on new mac mini

I getting lots of audio interference when headphones are plugged into mini headphone jack.   Interference varies with where I'm standing in my room.
    Mac mimi is new.

Are you using wireless headphones? Or is it a cabled one? Are you hearing the noises when listening to the internal speaker?

  • No Audio at all on mac mini

Hi all, i have had various issues since i got my first mac a few days ago, but the latest has me stumped.
I lost audio, and when i go to system preferences/sound there is no devices listed & output volume mute button is ticked but i am unable to change it, its shaded out. Its as if i dont have the driver installed, but i've tried reinstalling the operating system and still no sound!
    Any ideas????

Since you have an Intel Mini, it's worth trying an SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543?viewlocale=en_US
Also, what do you have plugged into the audio jack? The jack is dual-purpose: analog and TOS optical. An non-standard plug or one that is inserted too deeply can sometimes confuse it.

  • Audio Interference on my Mac Mini.

For quite some time now, many web sites that feature audio, suffer with dreadful interference, unless I run Quicktime 7 separately in the background.
Anyone else sufferring with this, and know a more workable solution please?
I didn't do anything initially because I assumed that it was a bug and that Apple would address it in an update fairly quickly, but that's not happening.
    Thanks.

It started working now, odd stuff, oh well I will alert if this happens again.
