Audio Grayed Out

I can't figure out what the issue is what my audio. I currently have it running through a system via HDMI. I've had it this way for a few months now. Today I came home and my audio wasnt working and it is grayed out.
I option clicked it and selected "internal mic" and that helped as audio is now coming out of the mac mini itself.
I'm just not sure how to fix it so that it will come out of my system again. Any ideas?

Hello,
Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • Possible fix for no audio & grayed-out volume control

Hi, I just thought I'd post this fix I found for my Mac Mini losing audio and also having the volume control grayed-out as if permanently muted.
I have had this problem a couple of times on my Intel 2 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini. I have tried some of the software solutions found on the web such as zapping PRAM, deleting certain Plists, etc. But in my experience the fix that has worked is to open the Mac Mini and unseat and then reseat the orange Foxconn ribbon audio cable where it connects from the Mini's audio board to what I assume is the main circuit board. Then when you reassemble and turn on your Mac, audio will be back.
My theory is that unplugging and re-plugging USB and audio cables on the back of the Mini near the audio board eventually loosens the internal ribbon cable and causes the audio to stop working. My latest attempt at a permanent solution is to have USB and analog 2.5mm stereo audio 'extender' cables plugged in on the back of my Mini, which loop forwards over the top of the Mini where they are all taped down securely. This allows me to plug and unplug cables without ever disturbing the actual USB and audio ports on the back of the Mini.  I am hoping this will help avoid the lost audio & grayed-out volume control problem in the future since the connection of the internal audio ribbon cable is less likely to be disturbed. It is a somewhat ugly solution but seems to be working so far.  I'll post later on if the volume control gets grayed out again even with these measures.

    Not on mac though

  • How do I get my Built-in Mic to work in Audio MIDI setup, grayed out 1

My iMac is over a month old, and the first week I had it I tried to talk on Skype with a friend. My mic wouldn't work, and after making an Apple Care appointment with a local Mac store last weekend, we found out that the iMac DOES hear me, Dictation works with my voice, but for some reason Skype won't pick me up. Another program I sometimes use is Livestream Procaster, and neither pick up audio from me, oddly though they do pick up finger tapping on the desk, which is no further away from the computer than I myself am.
I Googled this issue with Skype and I found this page:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/Apple-IMAC-Internal-Microphone/td-p/305172
It shows a screen capture using Audio MIDI Setup, and I opened mine to make sure everything was in order, but my CH: 1 & 2 are both grayed out, so I can't adjust them at all.
I have a screen capture of my window as well:
And I did check to make sure that my Interal Mic is selected in Skype, Livestream Procaster, and even my iMac's System Preferences. I wonder if it has something to do with this Audio MIDI Setup. I don't actually know, but from searching for solutions, this is the only thing that doesn't seem to match up with suggestions I've found online.
    Thanks guys for any help.

I'm talking with a friend, and he says I'm muffled, and he can't understand me but can hear that I'm talking. When I turn on dictation to record what I'm saying he says I come through crystal clear.
The problem is I don't know if this is a Mac issue or a Skype issue. I was going to go to Skype, but when I found that page that I linked to above, that's what lead me to believe it's a Mac issue again because I can't get my Audio MIDI Setup to match the suggestion made by the user in that link.

  • Audio Capture not available / grayed out

I have a Samsung SC-D263 connected and when I try to capture video in FCE there is no audio. When looking in the settings, the check box for audio capture is grayed out... any ideas?
I managed to find drivers for the camera, but i don't know how to install them...

What audio checkbox are you talking about?
Do you see the video in the capture window? Do the meters move?

  • Newbie question - Regions grayed out, audio not playing... please help!

    Good morning,
I've got a problem that seems like it should have a simple solution, but I don't know enough about Logic to know what the solution is.
I had put together a few tracks and everything was working fine. Now, for some reason, the regions are grayed out and when I hit play, there is no sound and the meters do not register anything. I've checked the levels on the mixer, and I have the proper audio input-output settings in the preferences (I think); the audio just isn't playing.
Note that when I double click the region and go into sample editor mode, the audio plays fine.
    Here is a screenshot: http://grab.by/3nMD
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks so much!
    Matt

    Hello,
Logic has a number of ways to mute or solo regions, tracks and channels.
Select the two regions (they are selected in the picture) and press the 'M' key on your keyboard. This will unmute them.
There is a very good and easy to follow tutorial for new users I recommend very highly -

  • Audio Pans Grayed Out

    Hey everyone,
My audio pans are grayed out, not sure why. I never encountered this problem before and wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to un-gray them.
    Thanks,
    Rob

To get audio from my pans I use Calphalon cookware...sorry
I'm not clear on what you're asking about (ie panning from the timeline, panning from the Audio mixer).
What I can suggest though is double clicking the audio track to launch it in the viewer where you will have a great deal of control with your pans.

  • WVC54G Audio & email alert Dropdown grayed out

I have not used the camera in a few years. Pulled it out recently and everything was working great. Went to change the area that the camera monitors for motion and both audio/email dropdowns are grayed out. They were there initially while I was getting everything working, and even had a few test emails sent through.
I changed nothing during this time, just accesed the feed via IP Cam Viewer Lite and did final postioning before trying to change alert area.
    V2.07, Sep 7, 2004
I rebooted it a few times and stil have the grayed out dropdowns.
Also, where is the download for the recorder/viewer utility?

Ok, I got a repsonse back from the programmer of IP Cam and he said choose either viewing on the cam or on the phone. Pick one or they other as both won't work.
Does anyone have a recommendation for any other Android apps to use with this camera?
Here is a thread on the IP Cam message boards with a few others having the same issues:

  • "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated.

I have one big wav file of segued tracks as a mixdown and inserted CD markers where I want marked tracks. "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated. Why can't I export these marked portions as separate files?

the markers durations need to be configured, there is an easy way to do this using your existing markers.  click the start time of marker 2, this should change to edit mode to type in a new number, just copy the numbers cmd/ctrl+c. then click the end time of marker 1 and paste, cmd/ctrl+v.  now repeat for the rest of the markers, and on the last one enter a value for the end time or click and drag on the duration to manually extend it. once all the markers have a duration, the button should be active to export.

  • Audio crossfade appears inactive (grayed out) when adding it to audio transitions

Not sure what I am doing wrong here...
I cannot directly insert audio crossfades into transitions on my audio timeline withought going to the transition point and then clicking sequence > apply audio transition from the main menu. But even then once it is added it appears inactive (grayed out) and I cannot change the lengh or style of the fade...
Another thing that keeps happening is the program keeps crashing. I get the pinwheel of death and I have to restart the program manually. I dont have any other programs open and my computer is quite beefed up so I don't know what is causing this..
    Thanks for your help!

  • Audio A/V controls grayed out - no audio

    Hello,
I am on a PC running Windows XP. I have purchased Quicktime PRO and the MPEG plugin.
MY Question is: My Audio A/V controls are grayed out. When I go to Window->Show A/V Controls my Audio A/V controls are completely grayed out. No audio.
However, audio is fine on my PC running numerous applications?
    Any ideas,
    Gary Young

Thanks for responding, no there is no sound from the headphone jack either. It seems like the problem started with the last update installation. A couple of weeks before that I had changed out the memory for a 1g in the upper slot. Everything else working well and memory seems to be happy. Those are the only two things I can think of that have gone on with the system. Internal speakers show up as the choices in sys pref and it switches back and forth from internal to headphone promptly when you insert/remove plug. The tex instr sound card is showing up in the hardware description in about this mac. Most of this detail may be meaningless, but figured there might be a clue in there for someone more clued up than I am.
    Thanks

  • Audio files won't auto-sync in Premiere CC - synchronize option is grayed out

I just started using Premiere CC and am trying to synchronize three cameras and one additional audio source using the new auto-sync feature - which syncs by waveform.  Even if I'm just selecting two audio clips on the timeline, right-clicking on the clips brings up the menu with the "synchronize" option grayed out - not available.  Why should this be?
I'm mixing clips from two Canon T4i files with audio, multiple Red clips with audio, and an mp3 file from an Edirol recorder.
Premiere just doesn't seem to want to even attempt an auto-sync with these files. Even if I unlink audio from video and then try to sync audio - no "synchronize" option.
I'd really appreciate any ideas or suggestions anyone might have on this.
    Rob

It just doesn't work with separate audio clips.  This is known.  But I've never seen the option grayed out completely.  Not sure what would cause that.
You're sure all the camera clips have audio?  You can put them in the sequence and see the waveform?

  • QT Pro 7 - trying to export .mpg to .flv - "export audio" option grayed out

I've opened an .mpg video in Quicktime Pro 7 and am trying to export it to Flash video. It exports successfully, but the audio (present in the original .mpg) is missing in the exported .flv file.
Investigating, when I try to export, I've clicked "options", went to the "audio" tab and found that the checkbox for "encode audio" is grayed out and unchecked. The format listed in this grayed-out window is MPEG layer III (MP3) - which I think isn't correct; this video I'm exporting is an MPEG version 1 file, with layer 2 audio.
Help! What can I do to sucessfully export video with audio?

QuickTime has never supported audio export from muxed file formats.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert your .mpg to other QuickTime formats (it doesn't export to .flv) and then export that new file to Flash.

  • Extract Audio is grayed out

    Hey guys,
I searched for a solution but haven't found one. Hopefully somebody knows what's going on.
I took the selection tool and selected my video/audio1 clips (two short ones) Went to Clip, Audio and then Extract Audio was grayed out.
Audio Grain and Render and Replace were not grayed out, though.
    CS5
    Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit
Not many other programs running. Shouldn't be a RAM issue.
    Thanks for any help,
    James

Extract Audio is only available when you select a master clip in the Project panel or a bin, not in a sequence.
(Funny; I was just going to link you to the Help document page about Extract Audio, and I saw you posted there Notice what it says in Step #1?)

  • Flash Video Encoder - audio options are grayed out

I'm trying to convert some mpg videos to flv and the first
time the audio settings were available - but since I tried to
change the data rate in the audio settings - the choice is now
grayed out to "include the audio"? The videos have audio...ugh, I'm
frustrated. I hope I have explained my situation enough - I'm very
    new to working with videos...

If those boxes are grayed out then it's because FME didn't
recognize the codec used, try to convert the mpeg to an avi or mov.
