  • Bad Header error importing Audio from Audition to Premiere Pro

    Hey guys,
I'm not sure if anyone is experiencing a problem like this below, but recently, I have been up in arms trying to export a 90-minute feature film's audio (Ch. 1=Dialogue - Ch. 2=M+E - 5.1 Surround Mix) in a .wav file format, and every time I try to export it out, it PLAYS in Quicktime player, but it WON'T import into Premiere Pro (citing BAD HEADER ERROR) in file.  I basically tried to utilize every file format there is for audio and such, but nothing is working (including .aif, but it kept cutting out at 13mins into the show).  I separated the dialogue music and sfx in 3 submixes, but I needed to combine the Music and Submix into 1 submix to have ONE DIALOGUE Submix, and ONE M+E submix for our distributors.  Any help to fix this would be great.

    Paul,
Sorry to hear about the PC -> Mac problem. Old 6.5 Mac Project opened fine in CS2 PC, after I added the file extensions.
As for the AVI, Curt is correct. There should be a utility for the Mac, like G-Spot, which will tell you everything about your AVI file. Unfortunatly, I do not know if G-Spot is ported for the Mac (www.headbands.com/gspot), so you might need to find similar for you platform. You can then identify the necessary CODEC and install it.
Last, you should be able to find an edit-shop that has CS3 on PC and get them to Import the old Project, then Export it in CS3, so you can open it on your Mac. If not a commercial shop, then maybe a friend with CS3 on PC? Next best thing might be to find a Mac with Premiere 6/6.5 (last Mac version, prior to CS3 ?) and try that route.
    Good luck,

  • Header error importing audio file.

    Hey,
I just imported all of my audio no problem, except the one file that reads header error. This was the only audio portion that the lav mic ran out of battery on and was not able to stop the recording. Im sure it has something to do with that, is there anything I can do to recover the audio?

I encountered the same error when attempting to import WAV files created in Audacity, which are "WAV (Microsoft) signed 16 bit PCM" output.  I previously used an older/simpler version of Audacity with Captivate 3.0.1 with no issues, importing either WAV or MP3 files recorded in Audacity.
    Other info:
    Captivate: version 4.0.0 (build 1596)
    OS: Windows 7 (64 bit)
Sound card: Realtek High Definition Audio, driver 8/25/2009
Sound recorder: Audacity 1.3.11 (stable beta for Win7)
Output: WAV (Microsoft) signed 16 bit PCM
I researched other information related to registry/installation issues (for WinXP and Vista) and a few specific sound cards (including Realtek) - the specific fixes recommended don't seem like they would work on a Windows 7 machine... or would they?
Fix related to Vista machines with Realtek/Sigmatel sound cards, involving replacement of a .dll file.

Using a MS tool to fix a registry problem from installation  (an XP fix that reportedly worked for Vista also):

  • 5.1 Surround Export from Audition Gives "Header Error" in Premiere

Hello - I have a finished surround mix that has been exported to 5 mono stems that I need to use for a DVD.  In Audition CC 2014 I created a new multitrack session and selected the, "Surround Stems for Video Master" template.  I verified that all stems are playing on the audio meter and then selected Export / Multitrack Mixdown / Entire Session.  In the export window I selected Wave PCM, 48000 Hz, 5.1, 16 Bit.  The resulting file for the 2:15:00 project is 4.8 GB.  It plays fine in Finder and VLC.  When I try to import the 5.1 Wave file into Premiere CC 2014 I get an error that says, "The file cannot be opened because of a header error."
In Audition I have RF64 support selected.  Is this possibly a file size issue being over 4 GB?  If I set in and out points in Audition and use the same export settings the file imports into Premiere successfully.  I need to use the full quality of the audio file when I export the Dolby AC3 file from Premiere so I do not want to compress this.  Is there any setting that I can change in Premiere?  Has anyone else had success importing a surround file that is larger than 4GB on a Mac?
    Thank you!
Specs:  iMac, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, latest OS, latest versions of Adobe CC (PP 8.0, Audition 7.0)

I've had the same issue.  Export audio to a MOV or AVI file format in Audition or audacity.  They are movie containers, but hold audio as well, and will get past the 4gb file size limit.
Unfortunately, you cannot export back out of Premiere to audition straight out.  You will have to do one of the following to get it to work how you want:
    1. Blade at several points along your initial clips, and then edit in audition (the new spare files will be in place and will work just fine).
    2. Use the MOV or AVI audio to replace the audio in the session once you get there.
On the send back to premiere, you'll have to conform to MOV or AVI audio PCM.  Its a bit more work than most are used to, as you'd expect it to "know" the file is too big, but it really cannot tell from the container.  If a limit of a file is about an hour of audio at 96k32bit float, then they could hard limit that by seconds count, and switch to using MOV instead, which would still function normally, and they wouldn't have to do anything else.  Or they could add support for W64 and larger formats.

  • Header Error when importing Wav files

The problem I'm experiencing is that Premiere CS6 will not import my Wav audio files. When I try to import them it gives the following message and fails to import the file:
"The file cannot be opened because of a header error".
The original audio file, which opened happily in FCP 7 (I'm migrating the project to Premiere from a previous Final Cut Pro project) is in the following format (as described in the Movie Inspector of QuickTime Player):
    Linear PCM
    16 bit little-endian signed integer
    2 channels
    48000 Hz
Although the files won't open in Premiere, they will open in Adobe Audition, which gives their bit depth as 32 (it also describes the original format as "16 bit little-endian" - I confess that this technical side of sound files is unclear to me).
Any suggestions of how I can coax Premiere into importing and opening these files?
    Thanks, Andrew

  • Exports From Audition CC Give "Header Error" in Premiere Pro CS6

    Hello,
I have finished the audio mixing on a 15 track project in Audition CC. It is very heavy so I had to export all the tracks separately to import them back into the Premiere Pro CS6 movie project. That way I could also do further adjustments in individual tracks later on directly on Premiere, if needed (since mixing isn´t something we´re ever done with).
I´ve exported them all in wav 9600 Hz 32 bit (Audition doesn´t say whether it´s floating point or not) and also wav 9600 Hz 24 bit. The originals on all the tracks were eitther wav 9600 Hz 24 bit, or wav 9600 Hz 32 bit (converted from 24 bit to aplly declipping and normalization), except 2 tracks with music that had mp3, wav and m4a.
When importing the exported Audition files back into Premiere all of the 15 tracks, including the ones that didn´t have mp3 and m4a in it, give me the message "The file cannot be opened because of a header error".
    Questions:
    1. What could be wrong?
    2. In case there isn´t a solution, what would be the best lossless formats to try and do the exports for importing into Premiere?
    Thanks a lot.

    I see...
Trouble is I´ve never had an answer for my posts in the Audition forum (I did originally post this here because I thought it´s more of a Premiere issue, though). I guess Audition just isn´t nearly as widely used as Premiere.
Also, I have done the same kind of exports for smaller tracks from Audition before and didn´t have an issue importing them into Premiere.
I find it really troubling that Adobe intends to make Audition a reliable pro audio suite integrated with Premiere and, on top of some weird issues like this one (and such as the 16 bit limit for sending a project from Premiere to Audition, making that integration probably useless for most pro uses), there´s so little support.
    But thanks a lot, anyways!

  • Converted .avi to .mp4 for Premiere Pro CS6 but receive a header error.. help?

When I imported .avi video file into Premiere Pro CS6, only the audio played. I used VLC to convert the .avi file to .mp4 through a batch file. Now when I try to open the .mp4 file into Premiere Pro CS6, I receive an error "File cannot be opened because of a header error".
I've tried converting the .avi file to .mov and .wav but they receive the same header error.
I've also tried opening in Audition and resaving it as .wav pc but it still won't import to Premiere.

First, depending on what is inside the AVI file, it should/might be "naturally" supported by Premiere

U530 - High definition audio device - ERROR - This device cannot start (Code 10) Windows 7, please see the picture
    Picture link (hosted on photobucket.com)
I got all drivers up to date including the BIOS, everything is working fine (the sound works, microphone works...) but this error is kind of annoying to my eyes so if anyone know how to fix it please help.
I tried to uninstall this and let windows update install it again => not worked, same problem.
I tried to re-install the Realtek driver (uninstall - restart machine - install - restart machine) => same problem
And another probelm which has not been solved yet is the Bluetooth icon keep blinking on battery mode (windows 7), you can see more in this thread

What kind of reinmstall did you perform?  If you used the recovery media, then this will be pretty simple. Boot to the recovewry media again and this time select the Reinstall drivers and applications option. Find the audio driver on the list of available drivers, put a tick in the box to its left and then click on the install button in the lower right hand corner of the window. The driver will be installed.  Your list will be different than the following one, but this is only an example.

  • Safari 4.0.4 & PhP 4 "Can't send header" error message

    Everyone...
I am currently recoding many of our PhP templates & HTML to better conform to the newer browsers (IE 8, FF 3.6, Opera 10, Safari 4.0.4 and AOL 9) and cannot resolve the issue with the Safari browser...
Essentially, when going from one module to another (requiring a redirect header statement) the Safari 4.0.4 ALWAYS rejects the request with the "Cannot send header" error.
I recoded some of the Php code so it will not work in IE 7/8, Opera 10, FireFox 3.6, AOL 9.... Yet Safari 4.0.4 just does not want to work..
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am aware that when sending a new header (via redirect) that NOTHING can be posted to the browser ahead of the header request (ie: space, html command, etc...).
    Thanks!

Thanks, as far as I know, there isn't one. Any other suggestions? I just uninstalled Thunderbird and deleted all saved settings and re-installed. Still not working.
    thanks!

  • Libgc crashes with 'can't allocate header' error

We have tried to use libgc (http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/libgc.html) on Solaris to solve memory fragmentation problem in our product. It did work well for low volume tests. Memory drop was seen. But when subjected to heavy load, it crashes the server with 'Can't allocate header' error. Do any have an idea on what to do in such situations ?

Thanks for the explanation of incompatibility between Java GC for C++. Regarding multithreading support, I did mail to Boehm, Hans. The following is the excerpt from his reply:
"If you are going to try the open source GC, I would first try gc7.2alpha4, which is close to the current CVS version. You would probably need to build it with -DREDIRECT_MALLOC=GCmalloc or --enable-redirect-malloc to allow it to intercept plain malloc calls. This is likely to cause problems for a multithreaded Solaris application; I haven't tried recently."
Also, We've tried to compile gc6.8 and gc7.1 versions with redirect malloc and enable threads options. There's an explicit check for this in the gc code. If redirect malloc, enable threads are mentioned and if the OS is not Linux, the compilation fails. Multithreaded support with redirect malloc seems to be well tested on Linux and it is not guaranteed on Solaris. The reply from Boehm also confirms it. It would be nice if Solaris releases the latest version gc by resolving the programming interface changes.

  • Looking to buy a new audio head for my truck.

I have a Pioneer audio unit in my Truck and it runs Windows CE.  It takes ages to boot, (typically I am a 1/4 mile down the road before it completes), crashes and prematurely ends music files while playing them.  I am looking for an upgrade.  I don't like aging navigation maps.  I do like listening to music and carrying with me a significant library.  I usually determine where a destiation is while at home, then get in the truck and have to find the same location in that navigation system (after it has booted.......).  This is cumbersome.
I would like a audio head that also mirrors the content of my phone.  To use my phone to find a location on an (updatable) map and then transfer it to the vehicle display when I get in the truck.  Have the truck head play music and also voice guide me to my destination.  A number of audio heads claim to be able to do all that, including many 2013 models at reasonable prices. The problem is, they offer Android compatibility and iPhone compatibility, but when you wade your way through the specifications, none of them support iPhone 5s.  Of course I have an iPhone 5.
Every unit I have found support iPhone 4s only.  What am I missing - this seems like too big a hole to not be filled.
How can I get the desired setup using my iPhone 5?

Sure, you can mulitiple accounts on the iPod and on a computer.  It will require that the login be changed on the computer and iPod to do various actions like updating apps.  When apps from more than one account need to be update, you have to update them one at a time since you can only be signed inot one account at a time.  Also see:

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp56001-56500/sp56429.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let it complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • The "alsa audio output error: cannot write: Broken pipe" problem

    [Solved]
(No place for this word in the Subject field, so I put it here.)
    Hi Arch community!
I noticed I have this problem and not sure when in started. Several months ago I bought and installed new videocard "GeForce GT 630". Right after installation I lost sound in the system. Having internal sound card (in mainboard) and SB Audigy2 (PCI), I searched for solution and found I had to disable "snd_hda_intel" module to restore sound to work through PCI sound card. Did it.
    echo "blacklist snd_hda_intel" >> /etc/modprobe.d/no-nvidia-sound.conf
After that sound was working as it should. And I noticed recently that during playing of any sound file the sound interrupts. If run VLC from CLI I get "alsa audio output error: cannot write: Broken pipe" message. And my system hasn't been upgraded since I don't know when. I still ran Firefox 26. So googled again and found it's a bug in a kernel or somewhere else.
    ==========================================
    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69942 :

I ran a system update last night, and this issue appears to have been corrected.

And so I thought upgrade would fix my problem since mainstream bug is fixed. After upgrade sound interrupts again, maybe even more often.
Do you guys have this issue and does anyone have a solution?

Not particularly wise to blacklist the module, since it probably is also used by the integrated sound card. With vid and pid you could just disable the nvidia card alone using parameter enable=0. Unless you do not mind having both disabled.
Where do I need to input "enable=0"? When I was searching for solution to make my Creative card work with new nVidia card I installed, the only way I found was blacklisting the module.

  • Header error message, very confusing situation

    Hi everyone!
I havent done any serious video editing so I am quite new to setting it all up. I really wanted to do a video montage of old home movies for my wedding next month. So please help! Basically I have used my canon 5d mkii to film my tv and capture some old movies (the quality is quite good actually). Some clips are very short, some are a bit longer (>45 seconds).
Once recorded, I download the .mov files onto my external hard drive (F drive). This is a western digital 1tb USB3 drive. Model number WDBPCK0010BBK-EESN. This came formatted to NTFS. My main adobe suite is installed on my 64gb ssd crucial m4 drive. I only have 4gb of free space left on this which is why i dont store media on it.
The problem starts when trying to import to adobe preimiere pro cs6. If I download the .mov files from the camera to the F drive, then go into premiere pro and click import, the smaller clips import fine but a message saying header error or corrupt file appears and it wont import the larger files (>45seconds).
This is where it gets strange (in my opinion). If I download the files from the camera to my C drive, then import to premiere pro, all the files work, even the big ones! No errors at all. Also, if I transfer the .movs from my C: drive, to my F; drive, and then import them from my F; drive into premiere pro they still work. No errors again. So it just doesnt work if they were imported from the camera to F; drive. I dont understand why :/
My scratch disks are set to F drive.
What is the difference between importing from my camera to C: drive or F: drive? Why does that effect premiere pro?
Is this a scratch disk problem?
Is this because my F drive isnt fast enough?
Is it becuase i need to transode the .mov files first? I was under the impressions this wasn't need with CS6?
I dont use a graphics card... I just use my i72600k and z68 mobo combo.
What should I do? I could afford one more new hard drive, and I wouldnt mind buying a new ssd and getting a bigger one, and swapping it with my current ssd so the new one holds the operating system and use the 64gb just for scratch files / rendering? However I am very poor right now with paying for the wedding so if there is another option that would be great.
    Thanks everyone,
    Craig

If I understood you correctly, files that wouldn't work from your F: drive yesterday suddenly started working today, even though you didn't do anything?  This indicates to me that your problems are based on speed-of-transfer issues, as well as files not being ready to be used even though they may be visible in Explorer or File Open windows.  Four clues lead me to that conclusion:
Your SSD is much faster than your external drive, so read/write operations occur in a fraction of the time.
You are only having problems with larger files (>45 mins. of video).
The File is Ready for Archiving attribute only shows up when the file is completely written, has been checked by Windows, and is made available to backup utilities.
PEK files allow Pr to draw the waveforms in the timeline, and for longer video clips this can take a few minutes.
My suggestion to you is to start transferring files from the camera to your F: drive (the USB transfer should be OK, but it's going to be slow), and while that's going on, go get a cup of coffee.  Give all the file operations a chance to be completed by Windows before you try to import into Pr.
    Jeff
EDIT: I should add that your USB setup is a huge bottleneck.  If you think about it, the data has to go from the camera through a USB port (2.0 maybe?), out through another USB port to be written to the F: drive, then read back into the computer for playing or editing from that very same F: drive through that very same USB cable, all while the computer is still trying to write more data to the external drive.  It's like a salmon swimming upstream.
