Audio In and Out Question (Any iDevice)

How would I get audio from my iPod and loop back in my iPod LIVE as a "Microphone" while hearing it LIVE?
Is there any way with audio cables and such I could accomplish this?
Thanks!
-William

Well I have an app that records my iPod microphone and I want it to record the actual sounds/music the iPod makes.

  • Audio IN and OUT messed up - how to diagnose??

I've got a weird issue and wondering if anyone can help. I have a Mac Pro and yesterday got a good mic and a pre-amp for my son to do some recording on GarageBand. I also installed the CuBase software that came with the pre-amp. The audio in and out is very erratic. Sometimes it will record, and sometimes not. And it will not playback properly (yes, I double-checked my Output/Input settings in System Preferences).
The same problem is happening on the CuBase software (which is GarageBand on steroids).
HOWEVER, when I fire up iTunes, all my existing MP3s come out of the speakers (line out) and headphone jack just fine.
Anyone know if there are potential conflicts between the system and audio editing software? Or perhaps it's the sound chip on the motherboard?
Related question: Can you add a sound card to a Mac Pro? I know the chip is soldered to the motherboard, but wondering if I can bypass that by adding a sound card?
    Thanks for any help.

I haven't spent much time with Garage Band and I haven't used Cubase since OS9..
But there may be settings right in the DAW software that sets the default ins/outs as opposed to having your system settings control where the audio goes..
Another thing to take a look at is Audio MIDI Setup in the Utilities folder. It displays the system sound settings in a bit more detail...
Currently, there might be 1 or 2 PCI-express "sound cards" out there, but your best bet would be to look for a USB or, preferably, a Firewire audio interface. There are many of these out there with a large range in pricing..
If you are getting serious about recording, you may want to look at some of the small format mixers which include a USB or FW output. The advantage of these small mixers is that they are like swiss army knives for audio.. they allow you to route and mix audio in all kinds of ways that you would never imagine until you actually need it.. Some include digital effects, usually some EQ on every channel, from 2-16 mic pres, etc
Another route, again if you are getting more serious, is to get a ProTools LE or M-Powered setup. This way you are getting "Industry Standard" recording software along with a selection of different audio interfaces to choose from depending on your needs..
Apple Logic is also Pro-Level Software for a great price, especially at the current pricing.. You still need an interface, though, to get the most out of it.
Browse around the computer recording section at www.sweetwater.com to get a good idea of what's involved..

  • Sample rate off the audio input and out devices do not match - what to do?

This is fundamental, I know, but nevertheless I can't find my way around it. I get this error message when trying to recor:
Sample rate off the audio input and out devices do not match
and am asked to do this:
Use the appropriate operating system or audio device control panel to adjust the sample rates of the input and output devices to use the same settingt.
I have defined the sample rate to 44.1/16 bit in accordance with my inbuild soundcardt.
I am trying to record from LineIn.
When running on a M-Audio sound card I don't face any problems.

    Any suggestions?

You're sure you have set BOTH the input and output settings to 44.1 16 bit?
Which version of Windows are you running?  There are a number of posts on this forum about how to fully access both the Windows Mixer and the Mixer for your soundcard.  Especially, you need to ensure that all "Windows Sounds" are turned OFF.

  • Fade audio in and out throughout a clip

Is thre any way to fade audio in and out throughout a clip, so say for example I want to fade it back just when someone is talking etc? it used to be so easy in previous imovies!

Audio in iMovie 09 is a pain. In order to do this, you have 2 choices...
    1. Your clip must have a video fade effect of some kind then go into precision editor, select to see audio from the waveform button near the middle right of the screen and then slide the audio (without effecting picture) either earlier or later.
    2. You can Split your clip in multiple places, lets say 6. Then double click on each of them in turn, moving the audio level lower and lower until you get to the part of the split clip that will be zero. In order no to have the edit point sound cut, either set the auto fade to be manual/zero, or go into precision editor and overlap the audio edit points slightly.

  • Possible to use Audio In and Out simultaneously?

Is there any additional adaptor/gadget that I can purchase so that both the Audio In and Out features of the audio jack can be simultaneously?
For example, so that Audio In can be used to record an external source input while the Audio Out is piped to a headphone to monitor the recording?
    Thanks!

    Air has a headset jack.
    You can use a splitter
Mics should be USB capable for best results, almost all headset mics are junk quality.
then monitoring or listening thru the headphones
consider using a PRO MIC , such as an Audio Technica AT2020 USB

or better still use one of these with pro XLR mics:

  • New clips automatically fade audio in and out?

When I add a clip from an event to the project there is automatically a fade in and out for the audio which I do not want. I checked under project properties but still couldn't find anything useful to turn this off. Any ideas?

You can select all of your clips (by clicking one and using command A) and then manually chage the fade in and out for all of them at the same time in the inspector. That is how I do it but I do wish that I could find a setting to turn off the fade in and out effect, just the same as you.

  • Basic In and Out Questions

    1. After setting an in and out point during capture, how can these points later be changed?
    2. I have been using "Capture Now" to capture and later cut out the parts of the video that I will not need, using the razor tool. I can see the benefit of using in and out points to be able to change a cut later, is there a way to also restore part of a clip that was previously cut and deleted with the razor?

so the original clip that resides in capture scratch is not altered at all?
so are the only changes that are made are the ones to the .fcp file that tells FCP what to do with the file that is in the capture scratch?
    does this sound correct?

  • Why does audio click/pop at in and out of any transition I apply?

If it's not a pop or a click, after I apply a transsion for some reason the audio level drops during the transition and doesn't appear to be adjustable even with clicking the edit volume button. I have tried many many things and all that seems to work is extracting the audio from both clips that are next to eachother first, and then apply a transition and it seems to be ok but even doing this numerous times I have attempted to extract audio from one clip by pressing Command J or going through the menu and gotten a completely different clips audio when before I extracted the audio it was fine. Why does this happen? In addtion the titles I've added always appear pixilated? Any suggestions? I have read the entire tutorial and know how everthing is supposed to work but nothing seems to be doing what it's supposed to.

You hear a pop or gap during a title or transition in iMovie
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n107945
After applying a title or transition, you may sometimes hear a pop or brief period of silence between the transition and the next clip.
A clip's volume is lower after you use an effect or title in iMovie 4
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107944
For titles, they often look bad on the Mac. Will look fine on TV. You should use simple (sans-serif) fonts like Helvetica or Arial in large sizes.

  • Recently updated iTunes to 11.1.1.11 and now my Disney movies won't play - the audio keeps dropping out. Any help?

Never mind ... cleaned the cache, cleaned the disk, cleaned the Java cache - it works.

I've tried going through those steps prior to posting. This link that others and you have provided takes me to these instructions. There are no specific steps to uninstall and reinstall itunes. I did so anyway a couple times to see if anything changed. It did not. If I'm missing something, please let me know--it's really appreciated. I'm not using windows and it is my understanding that when you delete itunes (which I did through terminal) it deletes everything, so you don't have to go searching for random files as you would with Windows.
Note: This article is for Mac OS X users. If you're using a Windows PC, please refer to these troubleshooting suggestions.
Follow these steps to resolve your issue:
Ensure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
Note: If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.http://apple.com/itunes/download
Check USB connections. iOS devices require USB 2.0 to function properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, refer to the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Restart your Mac.
Looks like I'll be making that phone call...

  • Audio/in and out of phase

I'm using a Audio Technica AT815ST stereo shotgun mic. It can be used in 3 modes MS, Stereo Narrow, and Stereo Wide. When capturing audio shot in MS mode into FCP the mid capsule comes in on audio track 1 and the side comes in combined, unmatrixed, on audio track 2. I've been told by Audio Technica that I need to copy track 2, put in on track 3, and then invert the phase of track 3. This then allows me to pan track 2 left and track 3 right giving me matrixed stereo. My question is: How do I invert the phase of the copied audio on track 3 in Final Cut Pro?

I don't believe FCP has an audio filter to invert the phase of a clip. You can probably do it with Soundtrack Pro. See the Soundtrack Pro Manual, Page 163

  • Audio files and duplicates question.

    Hello Group,
After almost seven years my  Macbook pro is getting full., I have been using Omnidisksweeper to help locate files that are no longer needed. I have always been confused as to where My music files are kept. If I import audio files using Itunes, it seems I am creating duplicates, even if I name them, I seem to have an untitled artist or untitled album remaining, is this true?  The same question applies to Iphoto where are these Jpegs or digital photos kept? are files duplictaed when using these applications?
    thanks in advance
    Troy

If you are adding tracks by dragging to iTunes or by using the Add To Library menu item then iTunes will put a copy into your media folder and leave the original where it is.  iTunes uses the copy.  If you add by dragging to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder then iTunes moves the file to the media folder.

  • Airplay dropping audio in and out.

My Airplay speaker keeps dropping the audio, I have a Time Capsule and Airport Express. The speaker works find on other routers. Can someone advise teh best setting to resolve this issue.

    Hey los1268,
I'd check out the following document and follow the steps under the "Troubleshooting performance issues with AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring" section:
    Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4215
Within those troubleshooting steps you'll find a section that goes over ensuring that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings if you believe that to be the root of the issue.
    Cheers,

  • Fade audio in and out

    Hi there.
I have an audio file that I have dragged onto the timeline and set to repeat on fame 1.
However, I want to fade the audio of that particular mp3 on frame 25 as a video plays on that frame -  the audio clashes.
I also want to fade the audio back up of the mp3 when the video frame is exited.
Any ideas how this can be done?
    Many thanks,
    Alex.
