Audio in Captivate 5.5 - Best Hardware?

Does anyone have recommendations for the best headset/hardware to use to enhance audio?
Also, suggestions for settings in  Captivate that enhance audio?

Nowadays I prefer to use good quality USB podcasting microphones instead of headset mics.  The diaphragm in a headset mic is tiny by comparison and you can never get the bass response you want.
I use Blue Yeti, Blue Snowball, and Rode Podcaster.
If you want to enhance the audio, you really need to use an audio editing package.  For free you can get Audacity.  For money, go with Adob Audition.  Better yet, buy the E-Learning Suite because after buying Captivate and Audition separately you could almost have afforded the suite.

  • Question on audio and Captivate?

What best practices do you have for incorporating audio in Captivate and minimize file size.CP 3 converts MP# to Wav. Was that addressed in CP 4?

    Hi there
Even though Captivate converts WAV to MP3 and Vice-Versa, only MP3 is actually used in the output created by Captivate.
    Captivate 4 doesn't change this.
Although I'm admittedly guessing here, I suspect the WAV format must exist inside the CP file for the purposes of Audio Editing. It would be great if one of the Captivate development team were to pop in about now and either confirm or deny that suspicion!

    HI,
For your home testing you might need a latest technology to get a smooth and fast installation. i7 processor might be the ideal with memory at least 8GB. if you're planning to have more than 3 VMs running at the same time than you need 12-16GB memory at least.
From my experience installing on vm and allocated memory 2.5GB each VM the installation could take 15-30minutes
    Cheers

  • Best hardware/OS for Photoshop CS5

    Hi there,
i want to build a new PC, optimized for Photoshop CS5, with Windows OS.
Can anybody tell me the optimal hardware configuration to make Photoshop as fast as possible?
The program is primarly used for poster design.
    how much ram makes sense?
is there a noticeable speed increase using 8GB instead auf 4GB?
is there a noticeable speed increase using quad-core/six-core CPU instead of dual-core?
is there a noticeable speed increase using GTX460 Graphic Card instead of a GTS450?
what is the best hardware for photoshop CS5?
what OS can you suggest me? is win7 64bit the best windows os?
    Thank you for your support!

    Windows 7 64 bit professional.
8 gigs of RAM because it is dirt cheap and Photoshop loves RAM. Most motherboards allow more RAM if you wish to update.
Don't know about Nvidia cards. I use a ATI 5870. Video card drivers play a important part. But the Nvidia card suonds about Right.
4 core is fine. 6 cores I don't own yet but maybe next year.
I use AMD processor 4 core on my main rig. AMD uses motherboards that can be used over and over for most processor updates and just require a bios update. The Newer AMD processors due out soon may need a new AMD3+ board but that is not official so the AMD2 boards may work saving money.
Intel's are nice but everytime Intel comes out with a new processor line the board is always different.
I run a i720 on my laptop and PS runs great.
Buy a good power supply that will have extra power incase you upgrade later. Don't buy cheap power supplies.
At least a 7,200 RPM hard drive. Get 2 internal ones. One for your OS and programs and one for PS scratch disk and storage.
    Quality DVD burner.
Motherboard is up to what you want with the processor type. AMD or Intel. Read up on the internet and also the websites you buy from for customer reviews.
Look at SSD's with TRIM support for a boot drive too. These have reallycome down in price. Use a hard drive for a scratch disk. Get a velocity raptor that spins at 10,000 RPM. 600 gigs are offered now at a cheap price.
I am sure others will chime in.

  • What is my best hardware/software to convert vhs to digital so I can edit in Final Cut Pro X

What is my best hardware/software to convert vhs to digital so I can edit in Final Cut Pro X?  Wondering if there is a solution under 100.00 or do I need to think a bit more. Thank you.

Have been doing this for some time, my setup:
I use an ancient "Symphonic" VCR player connected to an Elgato Eyetv Hybrid USB dongle.  That plugs into my G5 Mac, 10.5.8, which runs Eyetv software v. 2.5.3.
Recording is dead simple after fiddling around a bit with software settings for channel, etc.  Start the player, hit "record" on the software and wait for the end.
The recording is saved in some obscure ".eyetv" format with file size about 4 GB per hour of recording.  The software has export to a variety of formats including QT Movie which results in a substantially larger file size.
Quality?  Well, it's viewable and usable for archive purposes.  I'm fine with it but more discriminating folks may want something better.  I end up burning the video on a DVD using iDVD and that's not the greatest anyway.
There are various Elgato units available, and the Eyetv Hybrid seems to run bout $130.
    Hope that helps.

  • Record audio freezes Captivate 5 on Mac 10.6

When I try to record audio to a slide, or edit audio in Captivate 5 on Mac 10.6 the program freezes. I must force quit. I was able to record audio two weeks ago. I saw a number of posts on this issue for Windows but not for Mac. Solutions?

  • Audio & Captivate: Looking for best practice

    Good Morning,
i'am looking for some sort of best practice, handling a lot of audios within single captivate slides. Please let us take a look at the workflow:
I write concepts in Word or OpenOffice, describing on a slide-base the content, media (pics, animations, ...), interactions
The client read these concepts, and write a reading report with all changes, additions
We held a harmonisation meeting for every 3-5 hours calculated e-learning-concepts, argueing about the clients annotations and looking for a stable agreement
I produce the first version, in this case with Adobe Captivate, and for the audios i use text2speech.
The client checks this first Version, send me his audit report.
    I produce version 1.
So, where is the problem? My problem is the handling of the audio-files, up to 10 per slide. In version 1, all audios are spoken by professional speakers from german radio-stations, recorded in our own studio. And i'am looking for a comfortable way to exchange all synthetic audios without leaving anything within captivate, the final version must be as clean and slim as possible.
For the handling and tracking i use AlienBrain, because in some projects, we have a few hundred of thousands assets to watch and track ... and it is no problem if anything wents wrong, just some clicks and i've restored the older version of a pic, audio or a complete project.
Using other tools, i do not care about this. Within the project-folders, they are stored within a modul-based audio-folder. And every single audio-files as an unique identifer (A024_37_12_004.mp4, "A" for Audio, then chapter_module_page_sequentialnumberperpage.mp4/mp3/wav). After i have recieved the spoken audios from the studio, i just overwrite the synthetic audios and the "real" audios are automatically embedded in my slides, so if i make a new release, everything is fine. Older, synthetic version kept by AlienBrain.
In Captivate, everything seems to be ... hm, i have to be polite ;-) ... a little more complicated. Or even worse, i'am unable to see the solution. Maybe somebody may share a working and fast way for the needed audio-procedure? Or something like a proofed workaround?
    Kind regards
    Marc :-)

    Additional information:
Mostly, we have 3-5 audios per slide/page. 10 is absolutely maximum.
And because we are talk about overall thousands of audio-files, i hopefully find a good way to keep them as external sources and Captivate embedd them just at the moment, when i have to produce a new release. (That is the main problem - sorry, my english language modules are still asleep after a long and busy weekend) And as i've learned, object-audio can't be used with external audio-files.
At the company, we've talked about the best process (theres is another huge project running and the guys - experienced people - are also new to captivate). At this moment, the prefered solution is to connect all audios, 4 by example. And then we can "Play/Pause" the audio at our needs. It is a little bit like stumbling blindfolded through heavy mist.
Another idea, brought up by me, was to multiply the slide so the first slide shows paragraph/pic/audio. After a click, next slide loads, exactly in the same state as the previous slides ends, next text/pic/animation and the next audio. But with that, i will end up with thousends of slides only because of the audio-handling.
Maybe it is a good idea to explain a really typically update process which may show what we like to see:
The modul is ready, delivered and the client is happy
After 6 months, there is a technical change within one part and the client need a single new audio
In reality in one special module, part of over 200 hours learning, after a year we've been instructed to record new versions for 35 of 80 audios ... in just one of somehundred modules
In captivate we try to avoid touching every single slide again.
At the moment i own just a standalone version of Captivate (5.5), the eLearning Suite has been ordered and arrives next week.
Tools we've used in the past (and until now due to clients requirements) without any problems ... dealing with audios ;-)  :

  • What is the best hardware for Home Sharing?

What is the best client machine for Home Sharing on my stereo? aka What do I want for Christmas.
Well the CD player is starting to breakdown; that makes two this century. Might be time to replace that whole 5 disk CD player thing and get something to use as a player for  music in the living room stereo. Maybe a second unit in the office as well.
How to decide what to buy? Am I selecting the right media server option? I am pretty sure I have a server option but how should I set this all up.
Ethernet. The stereo in the living room doesn't have ethernet cable run to it so the Time Capsule could stream over airport Home Sharing from my iMac 2.4GHz or MacMini server to say my lightly used iPad 32gig. This must slow the network down so I could run ethernet cable if I had to, but the iPad doesn't take ethernet. Performance of the network is important.
Power on feature. Ideally the hardware should emulate the existing service. I go to the stereo, turn the power on and it starts playing, usually ramdom songs (shuffle) of a preselected playlist (5 cds).
Remote control. We don't really use this, although changing playlists with my iPhone makes sense. I could hide all the gear in an out of the way closet. Remote control would be a nice feature, and remote control from all devices in the network and over one or two devices. Can I power up/down the stereo, adjust the volume down or pause remotely? This is my most used functionality.
Server or Client. I could put something with the stereo and load the music on it. Share from it instead of share to it. My music library is currently at 20 gig, so a 32 gig device would work. A old PowerBook as well with any respectable hard drive. Or do I use the TimeCapsule or my low use MacMini server as a media server? What do I do if I want a second player in the Office?
Sound quality. Yeah, it has to be there, audiophile wise.
    Audio Sources.
Play a single CD. This is where is gets a little complicated for gear. I do like the option of listening to a cd prior to burning it to iTunes. This starts to require a CD player connected to a iOS device, which is not yet availanble, so drives the gear selection into an older PowerBook. or maybe just add a single disk CD player to a iOS device and let the amplifier select the source.
FM. It would be nice if the device would get FM so I could toss the tuner as well.
Display. My existing CD player permits display of the disk and track, which kinda *****. I would like to know the artist, song and album, so remote control comes back into play here.
Cost. A replacement 5 disk CD player costs about $30 at the local thrift store. New around $200 - $300. I'm getting refurbished iPod 8gb touchs gen4 for $100. I see ebay has iPad 16 gig for around $200. Set the budget around $250. Maybe more christmas is coming   : )/
Brand. Been thinking Apple as iTunes sharing is easy, but would consider another brand if the price and quality supported the idea.
Shortlist. Old PowerBook, an iOS device as  client players or a stand alone player with out sharing to it but from it. Haven't looked close to see if they meet the functionality of an old CD player.
Workflow. How can we add CD music to the server from any client on the network? How do I change playlists? From the remote control? Can I operate the player from the stereo?
On Hand Gear. My network is running a pair of iMac 24's, iPad gen2, iPhone 3GS 32Gb, iPod gen4 8 Gb, Time Capsule (500Gb), MacMini Server (w/2 500 Gb drives in a RAID 1 config) with SLS. I have several PowerBooks: 17" G4, 14" G3; I could sell or use, USB external CD rw.
Any recommendations would be appreciated, I have some time before the CD player tanks and Christmas list sent to Santa.

What does itunes do on a G4?
Will itunes work under 10.4 with iTune 9 on a G3?
So back to the G4 1.67 GHz running 10.5.8 with iTunes 10. Adding Home Sharing  to this computer required deauthorising one of the other 5 authorised computers. Also I noticed I must be logged into a user in order for Home Sharing to see the other library... Or atleast that user has to have iTunes running. I logged into my test user account and opened iTunes account as user Tech, found the library on the TC (why doesn't iTunes remember this ?, maybe it has to bee conected to the TC) , shabam the library shows up on the PowerBook G4. Started playing the Tragically Hip , logged out and expected the library to stop sharing but no, I was still able to play from the logged out accout, as long as iTunes was running. Sure enough as soon as I logged back in to that user account and quit iTunes running fron the TC library, the sharing stop. No warning of a connected user though!
So what about Home Sharing on a Pismo? I fired up the old guy PowerBook bronze keyboard G3 400 MHz, 512 mb ram, running 10.4.11 and iTunes what? iTunes 4, oh yeah, from the iLife 05 install. I need to update to iTunes 9 but before that I should try to see if it can play from the TC. Well no it can't . I can see the TC and load the library but no songs show up in iTunes 4. Must be incompatible file format. I can't see any shared libraries either.
So I download iTunes 9.2.1 from Apple. Thanks for supporting older machines.  hmmm. installer says iTunes 9.2.1 requires a G4, yet it lets me install into the G3... let's wait for the install to complete and see what is up wit dat... well it installed... but will it run? no, iTunes installs, but it won't run on a G3, it wants a G4 or better.
So the story goes that for Home Sharing we stop at G4, G3 not invited to the party. Good thing the Pismo just sold on eBay.
The discussion on Home Entertainment Network over at https://discussions.apple.com/message/15843219#15843219 brings up another thing to test.
Can I stream the same music to multiple locations? Can I play the same music in the office and the living room? How does Apple handle this?
My other thought here is, since the TC has a back up of my music why can't I just play that version. Why do I need to back up my music? Guess I could not back up the Music folder in TC but store the music in the TC.

  • Headset not recording audio in Captivate 7

I can't get any sound recording when using Captivate 7 on PC. Using Microsoft LifeChat LX 3000 USB headset. Works fine in all other apps. Tried 3 separate MS LX3000 headsets and external USB mic. Works fine for two other coworkers with exact same hardware setup and audio settings. Any solutions?

Are you launching Captivate with Run As Administrator privilege?
If one of your co-workers logs onto your PC with their user profile, does the same microphone that doesn't work for you work OK for them?

  • Record Audio in Captivate 4 for PP Slide with multiple mouse click animation

I have a power point presentation imported into  Captivate 4.  Several of the slides have custom animation that ocurr's on mouse click. What is the best way to record the audio for these slides and have the audio sync to the right portion of the slide?

I am afraid there is no direct way to solve your problem. You can identify the time at which the movie stops because of an on-click animation. At every location, insert a transparent caption (blank caption) and add audio to the caption.
Thus once the movie pauses for the user to click, audio wont appear till user click on the swf. Once he does, movie timeline will move ahead and transparent caption will appear thus playing the audio file.
Hope this helps. Do let us know if it works.

    Mukul

  • Best hardware for capturing component, composite and S-video?

What piece of hardware do you use or would you recommend to capture video for Premiere from a component, composite or S-video source (including audio)?

The Blackmagic Intensity Pro or Shuttle or the Matrox MXO2 Mini depending on what codec you want to capture and what your delivery will normally be for the material.

  • I have two videos and I would like to use parts of both videos with one audio track what is the best way to edit this?, I have two videos and I would like to use parts of both videos with one audio track what is the best way to edit this?

In Final Cut Express I have two videos I'd like to merge parts of each video into a final film.  What is the best way to do this in FCE?

    Hi
I use a slightly different way than Alchroma.
    Same
    • One video on track 1 and the other on Video.track 2
    • Resize to 25% and move one to the left and the other to the right
    Diff
    • I don't use the blade tool
    • I use the Pen tool and change the transparency - then I get fast or slow transitions in same stroke and easy to fine-tune later if needed. (But this can be done with the Roll-tool if Blade is used - so it might be as easy)
    Final
    • Resize to 100% and Center
    Video is done
Audio - very close to this by changing the level so that best audio will dominate
    • Pen tool here too
But that's me - the Alchroma way is as good as this or may be better for some

  • Neospeech only generates 1 sec audio in Captivate 6? Error

I am new to Text to Speech in Captivate but am dabbling. I have installed the NeoSpeech content and have selected Paul as the voice I want to use. I generate audio and then preview it and it only creates 1 second worth of audio. If I change the voice to one of the standard none Neospeech voices then Captivate generates the full audio and it lasts 36 seconds. However switching back to a Neospeech voice does the same. I tried Bridget and got the same problem. It seems to only create 1 second of audio and the process of creating audio is much faster as if it is just not going through the full body of text. Can anyone shed any light on where I am going wrong or if somethings needs fixing what that might be?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    regards,
    Jay

Not really that strange...this has been a problem for a long time (years). I always make sure I type out the two words to avoid the error.
Sorry, I was going to suggest this earlier but just got busy and forgot to respond
    Glad you found it.

  • Recording System Audio in Captivate 6

I am running Captivate 6 on Windows 7, but i don't see the option of recording System Audio during capture. Please advise ...

  • Exporting Audio from Captivate 5.5

    Hello,
Please accept my apology if this question has already been posted in this forum, I searched but didnt see this particular question.
My department currently has Captivate version 3.3. We would like to upgrade to Captivate 5.5 so we can take advantage of the NeoSpeech TTS (Text to Speech) application bundled with Captivate 5.5. Does anyone know if the TTS audio can be exported to different formats from Captivate? If I remember correctly it was possible to do it in Captivate 4.0. We looked at NeoSpeech software as a single license for a whopping $1,000.00/license, per year. We thought upgrading to Captivate 5.5 was a better option at $495.00.
    Thanks
    Andrea

Thank you so much for that worked with no problems at all
