Audio in Clip1 continues across Clip 2 (no sound) during a Cross Dissolve

Hi,
Just got a new Intel Mac Pro with heaps of RAM & HDD's to use for my part time wedding video production business.
I have a problem in iMovie 06, which I just can't find a solution for.
When I place a cross dissolve between say clip 1 & clip 2 the audio from clip 1 continues across the full cross dissolve with NO audio in the cross dissolve from clip 2. It is only when the playhead cross over the cross dissolve to clip 2 that clip 2 sound can be heard!
This is VERY annoying when clip 1 has quite audio & clip 2 is nosiey - I get a instant increase in volume when the playhead goes from the back of the cross dissolve to clip 2!
Can anyone help!
Thanks,
Trav

Try selecting Show Clip Volume Levels in the View menu. Then select the transition and expand your time line as far as it can go to view the transition. You will see that the transition has a volume line running horizontally through it, just like any other clip, that lets you adjust the volume by dragging the line up or down. It sounds to me like your transition has the volume line pulled all the way to the bottom, muting all sound in the transition. Adjust the volume line upward in the transition. If I am correct, the sound from Clip 1 and Clip 2 should be blended into a smooth transition. Worth a try, anyway.

  • Bladed a clip but is not applying cross dissolve

This is a bit of an odd one?  When creating a transition between two separate clips, applying most fades etc is straightforward.  Have just created a cut in one individual clip, tried to apply the transition 'Cross Dissolve' and for some reason it won't do it.  Anyone experienced this?

Have not run into this.. Assuming cross dissolve is your default, selecting the edit point and Command-T (or double-clicking) should add a transition – continuous clip or not. (Of course, if it's just bladed and no part of the clip has been removed, you wouldn't see any effect in playback – which is why I asked the question about jump cuts.)
Perhaps someone else can add something.

  • FCP won't add cross dissolve transition to clips

After putting two Quicktime clips into FCP, I attempted to add a cross dissolve transition in between the two clips. When I dragged the cross dissolve transition to the two clips, nothing happened. That transition had been used before, and as far as I can tell, nothing was different this time than all the previous times. For some odd reason, FCP refuses to add the transition to those clips.
Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas on what could have happened? More importantly, is there a way to work around this problem?

This is a problem when you do not edit down your raw clips and drop them into the timeline as they have been captured.
    The operative concept is 'handles'.
For transitions to work, you need enough unused footage AFTER the OUT point of first (outgoing) clip and BEFORE the IN point of the second (incoming) clip.
Drop the first clip into the Viewer and set an OUT point 30 frames or so from the end of the clip. Drop the second clip into the Viewer and set the IN point 30 frames or so past the beginning of the clip.
Now try to place your transition.

  • Top-level Numbering Continuation Across Files in a Book

My department at work is looking to transition most of our files from Word to Structured Framemaker 9 (with an eye to DITA). I am trying to build a master template for this, and running into some numbering woes. I am fairly new to FM, so I'm hoping that there is an obvious solution to this issue, and it is just my inexperience standing in the way.
Currently, documents that we do manage in framemaker are books which contain different files:
    1. Front Matter File
    2. TOC file
    3. First subject of the document
    4. Second subject of the document
    5. Etc.
In the template, I have created the top level style as "Chapter" and set chapter numbering to continue from previous file in the book. To me, this is the most obvious way to get FM to treat the top level (only) as continued across files. Historically, the department has just maintained seperate templates for each type of file in the book (i.e., Front Matter Template, First Subject Template, Second Subject (and beyond) Template, etc.).  Because I don't envy the thought of creating and maintaining multiple structured templates with multiple EDDs to go with them, I have consolidated the templates into one master template that contains all the styles needed for whatever part of the document we are working with.
    My issues are:
    1. My team lead would like to abolish the use of the Chapter style in our books, and instead use Heading 1 as the top level in a book. Because we will be doing a lot of importing from Word, and all of our Word docs have H1 as the top level, she does not wish to have to bump all the Headings down in order to accomodate a new Chapter level on top after we import. If this is the best way to go, then how can I tell FM to continue numbering for only H1 across files?  Can I just use the <chapnum$> variable in the Heading 1 style for numbering and get away with abolishing the use of any other chapter designation?
    2. I believe it makes the most sense to set the template to continue numbering for the chapter variable from previous file in the book, since that is the most common scenario.  Then, I can reset the first chapter in the book (manually) to start numbering at 1. Is there any compelling reason not to do this? Will this cause any issues when we go to update a book, provided that we make sure to set the numbering for that first chapter file correctly? I hear that there is a way to set numbering properties for an entire book, but I cannot seem to find this feature - only setting numbering for files within a book.
    Thanks,
    Hannah

    Hannah,
Using a single template for structured work is a good idea. The template may get big as you add master pages, etc, but management will be much easier.
Use the <$chapnum> building block wherever you need it, such as in autonumbering for headings, tables, figures, etc. I would set the basic numbering properties in the template for the most often used case, such as a chapter. Thus, set the chapter numbering to be from previous and the page and paragraph numbering to be start at 1, if that is what you want.
After you create the book file and add the various books, you now have a book whose documents ALL have the same numbering. So, select chapter one IN THE BOOK FILE, right-click it and select Numbering. Set the chapter to be 1. If you want the front matter and TOC pages to be arabic, select the first such chapter, right-click and select Numbering and set the page number to be i; the chapter numbering can be anything. For pages like front matter that do not show chapter numbers, you will have to create special master pages that do not use the <$chapnum> building block. You can also set a chapter number to be text, such as Index.
Then update your book. The main point is that you set the numbering in the book file, not individual documents. If you do not, when you update the book, FrameMaker will warn you that the numbering in the book does not match the numbering in the documents. Note this is a WARNING. When you click OK, it uses the book numbering settings in the update, NOT the settings in the individual documents. So, it is always best practice to set numbering in the book file.
I forgot to add... I am not sure how easy it will be to convert Word files into structured FrameMaker. I never do it, but others in the forum will likely have some tips about it.

  • Can Apple Remote Desktop route audio to selected computers across network?

Can ARD be used to route audio output (e.g. from iTunes) across the network? If not, suggestions would be appreciated.
I remember that there was a -display option on Unix commands that let us run applications remotely and wondered if that might be a start to getting this task to work.
The intention is to feed audio-streamed data out to networked iMacs for use during classroom tests, controlled from a central admin computer in a different room. None of the classroom iMacs in question have iTunes on them, since it was removed to keep the machines more focused on classroom activities.

Sorry but no, ARD does not support audio across the network in any form.
Airfoil supports streaming of audio to other computers. I don't know if it will stream to multiple computers simultaneously, but you could check.
    Regards.

  • Error message: The selected file cannot be linked because it has 6 audio channel(s) and the clip was

I recently purchased/upgraded from Premiere Elements 5 to Premiere Elements 9 and I cannot open the projects in version 9 that were created with version 5. It shows it as offline. I get a message to open up a file and when I do i receive the error message: The selected file cannot be linked because it has 6 audio channel(s) and the clip was created with 2 audio channels. Can someone help me or tell what I am doing wrong?  All of my projects that were completed in version 5 cannot be opened up in version 9.
    Thank you.

    Bill,
I ran G-Spot on one of the files and here it what I have:
    DVD "VOB" format
    MPEG-2 Program Stream << { 1 vid, 1 aud }
    Sys Bitrate: 10080 kb/s VBR
I guess I am really confused.  The project that I am trying to open PrE 9 was completed in PrE 3 w/templates , scenes, etc. The movie was burned to a DVD.  I cannot understand why I cannot open it with a newer version of PrE.  According to G-Spot (I am assuming this is what you mean above), it is already in 2 channels.  To me this should be ok.  I put many, many hours into these videos and now it seems all for not.
Here is what I did so far:
I uploaded the required media files to a new project in PrE9 and let them index and conform.  I saved the project with the same name in a different location.  Do I have to do this to the project files and/or the original media files?  Confusion starts here.
The next step is where I am confused.  I do not know if I am proceeding in the right direction from here.  There is the share tab in the upper right hand corner.  Is this what you are talking about?  I am truly lost from here.
    Thanks.

  • HT1583 When I render my project in IDVD, video and audio runs properly, but when I burn it in professional quality and burning is finished there was no audio on the last two chapters, one audio is attached to the clip and the other one is from itunes, pls

Hi, please help me When I render my project in IDVD, video and audio runs properly, but when I burn it in professional quality and burning is finished there was no audio on the last two chapters, one audio is attached to the clip and the other one is from itunes, pls help

    Hi
    My first two thoughts
    • Shared to Media Browser - BUT as Large or HD - try Medium !
    • audio from iTunes - use to go silent
    - in iTunes
    - Create a new PlayList with needed audio
    - BURN this as a standard Audio-CD (.aiff) - NOT .mp3
    - use the files on this CD in Your Movie project - I ALWAYS DO - and only use .aiff ever - never .mp3'
    My notes on this:
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • How to sync audio for an already edited clip?

So while editing a particular interview, I first cut the original clip without the sound file, just the radio cut, taking out the ums, pauses, etc. But I totally forgot to sync my audio file with it first. Now, I'm trying to sync the audio to the interview, but when I syncronize the clips, it doesn't line up correctly, because it is the raw audio clip (with all the ums, pauses, etc.), and doesn't conform to the new radio cut of the interview. Is there anyway for FCPX to take the original audio clip, and conform it to an already edited clip? Moreover, is there a way to automatically chop up the original sound clip to conform to the new video clip?

You could try making the edited clip into a compound clip and synching that with the audio clip. Other than that ...

  • I want to use the audio from one of my clips and the video of another can I do this?

I have two different video clips that I took from my still camera. I want to use the audio from one of the clips and the video from the other at the same time in imovie can I do this and if yes how

    Yes.
First go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure that the Advanced Tools are enabled.
Now, drag the clip with the Video into the project.
Drag the clip with the Audio and drop it on the first clip at the frame where you want it to begin. A popup menu should appear. Choose Audio Only. You may then want to open Inspector for the video clip (by clicking the little gear icon at the top left of the clip) and going to the audio tab. Here you can turn down the volume of the video clip, so that all you hear is the audio clip.
Another way. Put the video clip that has the Audio you want in first. Then drag the clip with the video you want and drop it on the clip that has the audio you want. A popup menu will appear. Choose CUTAWAY.

  • Losing the audio track when moving a clip from the browser to the timeline

Today we were trying to add two clips from the browser in Final Cut Express HD to the timeline that was created yesterday. The problem is, the clips we were adding today are not moving with the audio tracks. All other clips from when we created the movie are fine but the two we added today have no sound. The audio works when viewing the clip in "viewer" but not once it is moved to the timeline. Any thoughts?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Look at the left side of the time line, there is a device (the patch panel) to set the current video and audio target tracks. (little V1 and a1 a2 icons). Swith them to desired tracks to select the target audio tracks (that's where the video and audio-or just one of them-will be inserted in timeline upon editing). There is also a contextual menu (control click) with reset panel command.

  • Change audio levels/pan on multiple clips at once?

Hey folks, any idea if there's a simple speedy way to change the audio level or pan of multiple source clips at once? Not adding a filter etc but just going into clip and making the change, doing these manually one by one right now and would love to find a batch way to do it.
    any help appreciated.
    cheers, J

Select the level and pan criteria you want on one clip; ctrl+click and select copy. Highlight all of the clips you want to change and then ctrl+click one of the clips and choose Paste Attributes. Select Audio Levels and Pan and all of your selected clips will have the same levels as the original one.
You can also select a number of clips, select from the pull down menu Modify>Levels, and there you can adjust the levels of your audio for all of the clips selected.

  • Apply same crop across clips

    Hi,
Can someone explain how I can apply the same crop across clips - I want to re-frame my whole film. When I select all the clips in the timeline then apply my crop in the canvas, it only crops the first clip in the timeline.
As I used a tripod I want to apply exactly the same crop on all my clips in the timeline.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Dan

Scale and position the image the way you want it. Copy it. Select the other clips and use Paste Attributes Opt-V and apply the basic motion that you changed.

  • The audio plays fine in the project screen but in fullscreen playback the audio is lost on certain clips often alternating with each clip. How to fix?

Audio is fine in project screen play back but when full screen playback is used the audio is lost from alternating clips. This carries over to the exported file/final version. This is my 1st time using I movie.

Hey did you find any solutions? I'm running into the same problems, would appreciate feedback and possible ways to fix this problem?
    Thanks!
