Audio in .pdf needing multiple clicks to start playing ...

I am building a Rich Media eBook in pdf format for teaching. I have created a single page 'test-bed' with a couple of audio files (.mp3) and a couple of video files (.flv) (one each embedded and linked). The media does play in Acrobat Reader 9, but the audio files will not play when their control icon is first clicked. The player pops up properly, with the play icon appearing as 'pause' as it normally would if the audio were playing. But it is not. Clicking once more turns it to 'play', and then clicking once more starts the audio playing.
Any advice on why this may be happening, and how I can fix it?
The test file, which is here, was created in InDesign, and exported as pdf, with the audio and video then added by Acrobat 9 Pro. (Mac OS 10.5.8 / CS4)

You're trying to play 'legacy' media which was depreciated a number of years ago for security reasons. It relies on some external player understanding how to open the file type, but Acrobat/Reader can only send the file across and hope that something will react, it cannot help you find the codecs you need.

When I insert an audio CD into my iMac, it automatically starts playing, and I can't figure out why, nor how to stop this behavior. When I click in the upper right corner of my screen where it says "Finder", it shows the Finder as the only application running, and yet SOMETHING must be causing the CD to play. If it is an Extension that is being loaded, is it possible to terminate the Extensions one by one without restarting the computer to see which one is playing the CD?
Is the OS9.1 operating system supposed to automatically play audio CD's when they are inserted into the iMac? Or could it be an Extension that is doing it?And if so, why is no means provided to actually CONTROL the playing of the CD (such as a control panel with PLAY, STOP, SKIP, etc. buttons)?
On a PC, I can press Control/Alt/Delete to bring up the "Task List" that will show me ALL applications and processes currently running, and then terminate apps and processes one by one without having to restart the computer to see which one is playing the CD. Is there an equivalent way to display this information on an iMac that will show me which application or process or extension might be causing the audio CD to play, and allow me to terminate them one by one without restarting the computer until I can see which one is the "problem"?

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Finder uses QuickTime in the background to do that, hence no specific app is shown in the Application menu (the far right item in the main menu bar) in addition to Finder.
To unset automatic playing of CDs (and DVDs) -
Open the QuickTime Settings control panel (Apple menu > Control Panels > QuickTime Settings).
In that control panel, select AutoPlay from the pulldown menu in the control panel. Uncheck both the items shown in the new window. Close the control panel.
No restart should be needed in order to make the change effective.
Doing this will also guard against the (now ancient) AutoPlay virus, which could still be lurking somewhere on the net.

Flash movies need two clicks to start

I record short videos with a camcorder, Capture that into
Premiere Elements 3 and Export it to WMV (or AVI), then use Swish
Video 2 to encode that to SWF with a simple player added.
I place it in my web page in DW MX 2004. I leave the default
properties of Loop and Autoplay checked on (I don't know what they
do but the settings in the player when I create it with the SWF
seem to override these anyway).
When I then put the page on the web, the video always
requires clicking on the Play button
twice
before it will start to play.

Why is that?

Why does it need a click to start slide

Hi, I have a presentation with about 20 slides in it. Slide 5 has 5 objects on it with a build out on the last object which works perfectly. Slide 6 has a Build In on it, set to After Transition and 0 seconds delay. However this slide will not start unless I click. Can anyone tell me why please?

I would guess the transition for this slide is set to "on click":
Inspector > Animate > Start Transition; click on the drop down menu and change to Automatically

Magic Mouse needs multiple clicks to respond

My Magic Mouse has been having issues today: about 20% of the time, the computer doesn't respond when I click, but if I click again right after that, it works. Changed the batteries, but that didn't help. Anyone else notice this, or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Getting audio dropouts when a song starts playing.....but not all the time

I have a 80GB Ipod. Use it mostly in my truck/car (have a IPOD interface in each). Usually use the shuffle mode for playing songs. It seems that as of a couple days ago I will get a audio drop out right after a song starts playing (one or two seconds into the song). Only lasts for a second or so but it does not happen on every song....there has not been a pattern that I can see (not every other song ot every thitrd song....just random..........) But it is always in the same place in the song......always one or two seconds after the song starts playing. Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you fix it? Thanks

Audio stream click to start

Hi there. I'm really stuck on this:
I'm creating a site for a musician. We want 30 second music
tracks to play when you click a link or button, replaced by a new
track when you click the next link/button. I've read an online
guide to this, and read all the Help files I can, but IT"S NOT
WORKING!! Aggh. I've got Flash 8 and Dreamweaver 8.

Okay, sorry about that! Unfortunately I can't upload the
files right now. The following advice from a previous post has come
closest to 'working':
" 1. Turn text/pic/etc., on your screen that will be used as
links into symbols.
2. Right-click each audio file you will use and select
Properties. Adjust compression to your liking. Under linkage,
select Export for ActionScript. OK.
3. Click each symbol on the stage and give it an instance
name.
4. Click each symbol, select Window > Behaviors. Click the
"+" and select Sound > Load Sound from Library. Under linkage
ID, type the name of the sound file. Under Sound Instance, type an
instance name. Be sure Play this sound when loaded is checked.
Click OK "
I then went Insert>Media Image>Flash, in DW. This gives
me an icon which plays only the 2ND time I click the icon (?). If I
click it again it starts the music over the top of the first. What
I need is three separate links or buttons which each play a
different track. The previous track should stop when a different
button/link is clicked.
Could this be to do with the ActionScript? I followed
Knowledge Base "Using Flash to play audio when a button is clicked"
but the track started on page loading and was scrambled as if it
kept starting repeatedly. I'm using Flash Professional 8, which
seems to be a little different from the instructions.

I have a web application. There will be some pdf links in the application. When clicked on these links I read the content from database and output as bytestream. But when end user clicks these files the pdf will open in the browser or in Adobe based on his Adobe setting
Note : Experimentation done on Adobe Acrobat reader 5
Setting 1> Edit - Preferences - Options - Check on the 'Display PDF in browser' option
pdf opens up in the browser itself without asking any option

on click it opens a windows pop up window asking me either to 'Open' or 'Save' . If I say Open it opens in Adobe.

Firefox icon in the Taskbar will not start on the first click, sometimes needing to click 2 or 3 times for it to open (and this is after a fresh reboot with Firefox not running in Task Manager.

Upon a fresh reboot the Firefox icon in the Taskbar will not work on the first click, sometimes it will not work at all and I need to go to Start-> then click the Firefox icon in the Start menu. Why is it that the icon won't start up on the first click?

Same issue - however firefox will open but I can not click on only of my tool bar shortcuts - the writing on the google age is greyed out so I can not click on anything. Still no resolution? I have deleted the folders and re-installed - it will open and then locks and it will not work????

Need Help Audio Amplitude Output Controlling Multiple Parameters

What I am trying to accomplish here is having one audio track effect multiple parameters, obviously all of the parameters would be slightly different so I'm not just making duplicates of one object.
Anyways, is there a way to use the audio amplitude to effect multiple parameters. I want to only have to analyze the audio one time, and then have that analyzation control multiple things. I've tried a Rig, but that doesn't seem to give me the options I need to configure this.

First of all, it doesn't "hurt" anything to have mulitple audio behaviors added to parameters. It doesn't duplicate the audio in any way. What IS the PITA, is you really have to wait for the audio behaviors to "process" (all the way to 100%) because if they're interupted, they'll often NOT finish creating the keyframes all the way to the end of the project.
You can easily add Link Behaviors to anything that is already under audio pararmeter control. You can chain them indefinitely.
However, one good example that might be coincidentally convenient is to create a Number Generator, turn off Animate and link the audio to the Value. Make sure, in the audio behavior to set the Scale value to the maximum value you will need (default is 1 and number values from 0 to 1 are not terribly useful for most things in Motion.) You can subsequently link other parameters to the Number's Value (Object.Numbers.Value from the Source Parameter dropdown in the Link Behavior). You can use the Value offset and Scale parameters in the link behavior to "shape" the behavior for each subsequent parameter under control. The sometimes useful side effect is that you have a visual number to monitor (you can set its opacity to 0 to hide it for the final project appearance.)
For the image below, I created two Number generators and linked the same audio file to each, setting the left number value to the Left Channel of the audio and the right number value to the Right Channel of the audio. I created a small rectangle and created two Replicators off of it (Shape: Rectangle/Tile Fill/Columns 1/Rows 15/ Origin Bottlom). I used Color Over Pattern to color the "audio meter" effect and a Sequence Replicator with an Opacity parameter, Sequencing To, Traversal Custom and to the Location parameter, I linked each back to the corresponding Number Value (Scaled to 100 for percent in the Audio behaviors). The Link behavior to each Location has the Value Offset set to -100 [location works from -100% to 0%].
You could link any number of parameters to the Number Values, and not have the audio parameters re-analyze all the time.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Acrobat 9 Pro - Create PDF from Word doesn't start

I have Word 2007 and Acrobat 9 Pro installed on Windows 7. I can print a Word file to PDF, but using Create PDF on the Acrobat toolbar does almost nothing. A dialog opens and asks what to name the file, but when I click Save nothing happens. The PDF Maker doesn't even start.
When I go into Acrobat and try to Create PDF from File and select a Word file, I see a message about "starting" but then I get "An unexpected error occurred. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF."
So I essentially have no PDF and no useful error messages to help me find the source of the problem. I've tried repairing the Acrobat installation, and even uninstalling and re-installing, all to no avail. My IT department has tortured me for a few hours trying all the basic stuff, but nothing has helped. I found this problem description in the Adobe Knowledgebase and I followed the steps there, but still nothing. (Yes, I have my name and initials set in Word's personalization settings. That was a dumb bug, wasn't it?)
Anyone had any ideas? I can create basic PDF by printing, but that doesn't give me a hyperlinked table of contents and other good stuff that I need.

Can you tell me a little more about PDF Maker not working in Word? It worked fine for me on my Windows XP machine with Word 2003 and Acrobat 8 (or maybe 9). It sounds like you've had a different experience. I currently have version 9.3.1, but the updater is running right now to update that. Is there another way to install the updates besides with the built-in updater? I don't seem to have control over the order of the updates when I use it.
I will try turning off features to see what happens. It doesn't look like PDF Maker gets started, though, so I don't know if it's getting far enough to even load the list of what features are on/off.

How does a pdf handle multiple SWFs at runtime?

If a pdf has multiple SWFs in it, that get turned on and off multiple times, does each one run in its own instance of the Flash Player?
If not, can they run separetely without problems?
Can one SWF run for a while and then another SWF run, followed by a return to the first SWF to resume part way through or does it start it off from frame 1 again?

When a Rich Media Annotation is activated it forms a new sandboxed instance of the FP runtime, so you can have several RMAs active at the same time without too many problems (aside from things like stealing focus from one another). They cannot see each other's libraries and you cannot share data directly between them as the LSO system is disabled, but basic string-form data can be tunneled via AcroJS if you know what you're doing.
When an RMA deactivates, everything is wiped - Acrobat / Reader do not automatically store any 'resume data' but you can create a home-made resume system by coding the SWF to export/import state information to the PDF. You would have to ensure everything needed to 'resume' is packaged into the state data string, then read and parse it each time the SWF loads. Again, that data packet is not visible to other content.

Multiple click event

I am trying to "stack" multiple click events for a control
and not having any luck.
