Audio-In Port does not recieve input

I tried to use my headset with the MacPro with no luck. I get sound out but when I talk nothing happens.
I went to System Preferences> Sound> Audio IN selection. Then talked into the mic of the headset, Nothing happens or registers on the input level graph with the volume all the way up,
I'm plugged in the back on the unit in the correct audio-in port adjacent to the fan. Tried two headsets that work okay on my PC. I understand there is no sound card only a chipset on the motherboard.
I called Apple Care and went through steps with the tech rep No solution there. She says I have to bring it in for service.
Just got through driving 30 miles roundtrip to have the CompUSA Apple Tech take a look. No luck there, A tech won't be available till Monday night.
I can get by until then. No biggie just a hassle to get everything running smoothly like on my Sony Vaio PC.
I use my headset plenty for VOIP protocol on Skype. Since I have no landline here at home only a cellphone, I do all my calls at home on Skype. Which by the way is free till the end of the year.
Does anyone have any solutions or similiar problem with their MAC Pro? I was thinking maybe about purchasing a PCI Express sound card and putting it in one of the empty expansion slots instead of lugging the computer back to CompUSA again. Dern the thing weighs as much as a half a bale of hay!
Cheers

Waymen,
Thanks for taking the time in answering my question and solving my cyber audio problem. I'm new to the MAC world. I figured I could just move my current headset over from my PC to the Mac Pro and plug it in to the audio-in
You are the first to finally give me the answer. All the professionals who sell and service the unit were giving me the wrong scoop.
I Googled the Griffin iMic 2 and thats the solution. Reasonably priced also. Thanks
Cheers

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in.  That's about all  you can do.

  • USB ports does not work

Hi I have problems with not working USB ports. It used to work. I downloaded actual drivers at msi.com for my gaming notebook GX 60 Destroyer and now my USB ports does not work. What should I do?

    What driver have you updated?
Try to do an EC firmware reset by removing the battery and the AC adapter then put the battery back with AC adapter attached.
Same questions like Pegasus asked, does all ports not working? which one exactly? What OS are you using?
Have you done any changes to the system? (for example: self-install OS or changing OS)

  • Serial break on com port does not work

    hello everybody:
    i have the following problem:
i am writing a command via the '"visa write" vi on the com port of my pc. in some cases the com port does not retun anything. that means that my "visa read" vi would timeout. the problem is that afterwards i need to send more commands but have to break the line in order to be able to do so. I have inserted the "visa break" vi but didn't get the reaction i expected. the line does not break. i tried to increase the break length but that does not work either.
    Any ideas?
    Using LabVIEW 2013
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

A break will not break the connection, it will just put a 1 to the Tx line for a periode longer than 11baud length (?) or specified time.
A hardware check that the break is send: connect a scope or a DMM to the TX and GND , a 500ms break should be clearly visible even on a 'slow' DMM. (a 10k resistor and two LED antiparrallel  or a handy RS232 minitester would do the same job )

  • Firewire port - does not work

Firewire 800 port does not work on my iMac, mid 2010 version.
If i plug in an external disk with external power it does not work. Sometimes the disk are recognized, but then it says its half the size it really is.
On small disks without external power it works.
I have tried 6 different LaCie disks with firewire 800 - all works on my macbook pro.
I have tried 2 differne western disks with firewire 800 - all works on my macbook pro.
All disks works as they should with USB.
Is it possible to reset the Firewire port?
If so, please send me a LINK. This support pages are **** to find correct answers…

While you can't reset the FW port on it's own you can do a number of different resets including SMC & PRAM resets, you can also restart in Safe Mode which will clear some caches. It's possible one has become corrupt. Try these first and sff i you have any luck. Make sure ALL peripherals except the keyboard and mouse are unplugged when doing the resets. Also it is not a bad idea to do each reset 2-3x to ensure it's worked.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Vw media-in port does not charge my ipod classic

vw golf 7 media-in port does not charge my iPod classic.

Check this article for some things to look at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
Also, I think the 5th gen has different tech specs than the nano, so while the nano may work on a lower powered USB port, the ipod 5th gen may not.
I would pay special attention to the following specs:
PC with USB port or card (USB 2.0 recommended)
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
To view your USB's, right click on "My Computer" (either the icon on your desktop or under your windows start bar) then left click on "Manage." In the window that comes up open your device manager. In your device manager, look at you Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
What you are looking for: USB2, USB2.0, high-speed, enhanced, high-powered. If you see one of these you should be able to use your 5th gen on it just fine. Try switching USB ports to see which one is your 2.0. If you have a USB port on the front of your computer these are often not 2.0, and you want to try using one on the back of the tower.

  • Mini-DVI port does not work in windows 7

I am currently running boot camp 3.2 on windows 7 professional. When I attempt to use my display port it does not register in windows 7, however when i switch back to snow leopard it works perfectly fine. What can I do to fix this?

I have a MacMini that is a intel core solo and has the DVI port not the mini-DVI.
I was able to load win7 but only after connecting the MacMini to an LCD monitor via DVI-to-VGA converter that came with my mac mini.
I am running snow leopard on the mac side and the video works great in 1080p via DVI cable direct to my DLP tv. but when I loaded win7 the tv couldn't display the video feed. The tv read "not compatible data". The DLP tv has a VGA input and win7 is running fine on it.
I am looking for a way to enable the video card to give the same quality on the win7 side as the OS X side, so that I can go back to the DVI cable and the 1080p I was getting in snow leopard.

Have just down loaded iTUnes 10.5.2.(11) onto MacBook Pro and now the earphone port is not working. Any suggestions. Annie H

My System Preferences>Soundoutput screen does not have the "Use audio port for" field.
Does your MBP have two separate audio ports - one for line-in and one output port? Then you wan't see that selector.
but the port has started to work again....Reason???
Perhaps there was dirt or something in the jack and the contact was bad.
(or you accidentally put the plug into the line-in jack instead into the audio-out; that happened to me once ).

  • Audio MIDI Setup does not save connetion between Traveler and Nord

I have audio MIDI setup on 10.5.4, Mac G5 dual and a MOTU Traveler, with a Nord Stage connected to the MIDI port. Audio MIDI setup is on version 2.2.2. I am on the latest version of the Nord 4.0 (though that shouldn't matter), and the latest MOTU drivers as well.
Audio works fine. The problem is Audio MIDI setup refuses to save or remember the MIDI connection between the Traveler and the Nord. I have to reconnect it in the application every time I restart the Mac.
If I make the little connection and duplicate the configuration, the new duplicated configuration does not show the connection.
Everything else works fine. I have a Virus and a Remote 25 SL connected over USB MIDI, and the Novation works fine even with its 3 separate in/out ports. IAC drivers work fine; the PodXT occasionally gets a USB MIDI connection and it works fine as well.
The only thing not working is remembering the plain old vanilla MIDI cable connection on the Traveler.
This problem came in when I updated to 10.5.4 a few months ago (as a heavy user of Pro Tools and Digital Performer I've had to stay a little behind the curve for compatibility reasons).
Anyone seen this? Any ideas how to fix it?

You could muck around with permissions, you wouldn't have to boot from anothr system it's just a property list file. You can run disk utility now, or you could chmod it in terminal.
But it's far more likely that it has just become corrupt rather than aquired incorrect permissions. So just delete the ******* and have done with it:
    /Users/Name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist
(The app will make a new fresh one when you next run it)

  • Audio sample rate does not match (HDcam to dvcam)

I'm trying to import clips and keep getting this message:
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape."
Footage was originally shot on HDCAM and transferred to DVCAM elsewhere. Using FCP 5, am importing via firewire from a Sony DSR-11 deck. Using DV NTSC 48kHz Anamorphic as capture settings (though I've tried everything that I thought might possibly work with no success). The audio does not seem to drift over the course of several 5 minute or so clips. Clip settings show audio at 48 kHz (don't know if that's from capture settings or from actual data). Seems to me all audio should be 48 kHz 16 bits, so can't figure out what's going on. I have to export an EDL for the project to be finished in HD. Read some similar threads that ended in December, seemingly without much resolution. My broader concern is why this is happening; my immediate concern is do I need to worry about this right now since the media files will need to be recaptured in HD anyway. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

A little more info. I'm having this problem on 4 tapes (from different cameras) that were transferred to DVCAM in a squished format to appear full screen on a 4x3 monitor. Video that was letterboxed and I can bring in with the standard DV NTSC capture settings does not have this problem. Still have the problem if I try to import the clips from the squished video with standard settings. Any thoughts?

  • E3200 - USB port does NOT work for more than one device

We needed a new router that had the dual band connectivity as our previous router stopped working properly when we started using a baby monitor operating on the same 2.4 GHz. The choice was between E3200 and E2500. We chose the E3200 mainly because it also offered a USB port. We were hoping to use that to connect our printer and two external drives (thus bypassing our old desktop that's been working as a server). However, it turns out that the USB port on E3200 does NOT support USB hubs! So, you can ONLY use ONE device - either a printer or one external storage drive. That wasn't really clear at all from the description. I feel like we wasted the extra $50 hoping to get functionality that just isn't there. Can't believe that in this day and age, Cisco thinks we all have only ONE USB device we might want to connect to the network! The router itself is fast enough, but the extra $50 for a USB port that doesn't do much and some speedboost phantom ability is just not worth it.

Just to save time to you all, after numerous attempts to install a USB hub to my E3200,
I wrote to Cisco Customer Service (live chat) and I specifically requested how to set up the usb hub or the virtual USB port and they said that they do not have a software to install a USB hub.
    Hope this help
    Massimo
