Audio in .swf file will play on Mac, not on PC ...

here is another one i need help with.
I have a .swf file on the stage. when you press the space
bar, or press a button on the .swf, audio plays. This works
perfectly on a Mac. On a PC, the .swf file annimates as it is
supposed to, but there is no audio. When i open the .swf file in
internet explorer on a PC, it works as it is supposed to, so its
not a problem with my speakers or anything.
Thoughts? ... why would the audio in flash member play on a
Mac and not a PC? ... am I missing a setting somewhere?

And, in case it matters, this is being deloped with director
MX 2004, Mac 0S 10.5, PC running windows XP.

SWF file will play on the computer that created it but not on another

I created a fla file that has an imported flv video, I then both published it, and tryed exporting it as swf, in all cases the video plays fine on the computer where I created the video file but doesn't play on another computer. The other computer where it won't play has the latest flash software, and doen't have any problem with any other swf files.
What could possibly be the reason for this?

I redid it embeding the video instead of inporting it, which is what I should of done initially. Thank you for the advise, I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong, and I don't have much left.
I had a second problem with the sound not being in sync but figured out I could fix that problem by changing the frame rate.

Audio and video files dont play on wiki only a qicktime icon with a question mark appears

I have many users on my server who upload podcasts, but the problem is that the audio file they upload doesnt always play. Only a quicktime icon with a question mark appears. What is also very strange is when you refresh the page usually the file will play and it will work on a Mac but then sometimes not on a PC, and the files always play without a problem on iPads and iPhones.
The icon looks something like this. PLEASE HELP!

The same thing happened to me last night, except for with video. Playing videos used to work fine on all operating systems. Now it will work on Windows and iPhone/iPad but only some videos work on my Macs. After searching for hours here is what I found:
1. Go to Safari preferences, Security Tab and uncheck "Enable Plug-ins". When I tried to play video after doing this the Quicktime question mark went away but the video didn't play, it just turned into background color and I can't even right click on it.
2. Run Safari in 32-bit mode. Locate the Safari file in your Applications folder. Right click it and click Get Info. Check the "Run in 32-bit Mode" box. Restart safari. This did nothing for me.
3. Try a different web browser. I tried Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera. They all do the same thing.
4. As for codecs, I updated then reinstalled Flash, DivX and Flip4Mac. Still doesn't work on Macs.
I know it's not a problem with the server because it works on Windows and mobile devices. Another weird thing is certain .mp4 videos work fine but some won't. I re-uploaded them and made sure the video worked on the server and the file is fine. All regular websites work fine: Youtube, Apple, etc.
My only guess, since this suddenly happened on all my Macs, is that there was some update that caused this. All help is appreciated.

Try:
- Reset the dock
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Otherwise you are out of luck. Apple is not making any more update for the 4G.
Also check with Phillips. Maybe they have an firmware update available

Check the position of the mute switch. On the side, just above the volume keys.

IMac will play DVDs but not CDs

My 2009 iMac will play DVDs but not CDs (bought music CDs and burnt CDs). The last time I tried (successfully) was December 2013. Can anyone help?

Start a new topic and don't hijack this one. You're problem is different from the OPs. When you start the new topic give your system version, iMac year and model and what type of CDs you can't read, i.e. commercial or those you created yourself. Also if you can read DVDs.

Flash .exe or swf files will not play on Vista

I decided to learn how to create captions for flash video,
using CS3. I tested this project and it worked fine. I could just
double-click on the app or the swf and the captioned video played
fine on my Mac. I only had Flash (CS3) on my Mac, so I created the
files there.
I then published an exe to move over to my Vista machine.
When I double-clicked on the file, it brought up Flash Media Player
version 9, but only showed a blank white box. Very frustrating.
After some research, I read that Windows Vista was not
compatible with Flash Media Player 9. Only 10.02xxx or later (I
forget the exact version - it was long) was supposed to work with
Vista. Since CS3 uses version 9 to pack into the executable (PC) or
app (Mac) projector files, I thought maybe this was the problem.
So I downloaded the demo of Flash CS4, thinking this version
would pack version 10 into the projector and this would solve my
problem.
While the CS3 version of my saved flash video project would
open in Flash CS4, it would not play when I tested the movie inside
Flash CS4. It would just show a skin at the bottom of the video
player only (with a play/pause button), and it had moving blue bars
on the skin like it couldn't really load either.
I then decided to create the whole flash video with captions
from scratch under Flash CS4. This time when I tested the movie in
Vista, it worked fine. When I published either the projector exe or
the html/swf combination, it worked fine. So proudly (and finally!)
I sent the exe over to my boss. But..... you guessed it. The Flash
Media Player 10 that started up when the file was double-clicked
just showed a blank white screen again!
So then I moved the exe over to another partition to test to
see if there was some dependent directory pathway saved as part of
the flash video file. The exe wouldn't play on the other partition!
So I thought I was onto something. I then tried moving files that I
thought the exe might be dependent on (although isn't the point of
a projector to be stand alone?) to the same directory on this
partition as the flash exe projector file.
I ended up moving the captions.xml file, the swf files (flash
video player skins included), and the html file that the swf file
is supposed to be embedded in. NOTHING worked.
I even read that someone with this problem saved his Flash
CS4 file as a Flash CS3 file before he published it, and that
worked for him. So I tried that too, but with no joy.
So I am totally stumped. Does anyone out there have advice or
even a solution?

VTS,VOB,IFO,BUP VIDEO files wont play on Mac???

I have a sony handycam DVD, From the DVD in camera I can play it on dvd player on Mac when copy and paste file from DVD to Mac cannot open any of files ?????? what can I do ???

The VTS, BUP and IFO files are not video files at all, which would thus be a problem on any playback application.
The VOB files are MPEG-2 files by any other name. Buy the Apple MPEG-2 playback component and open the files for editing in MPEG Streamclip (free) , not Quicktime, as any edits you do and exports of same will not have audio. You still need the MPEG-2 component either way.
And if the DVD uses AC3 Dolby audio you won't have any to listen to before exporting either. QT doesn't like AC3 audio either.

Swf files wrongly linked in Mac info 'Open With'

Together with others I have had a serious problem opening swf files with Flash Player. I hope this will help some of you and challenge Adobe to get their act together since this ought not so to be.
1. Background: As you may know, Flash Player 10 is not a stand along but only for web use (a plug in). One must keep or download the latest Flash Player 9 in order to play stand along swf docs. Had Adobe explained this clearly at the get-go it would have saved much frustration.
2. Together with others, some very strange things have happened to what was an automatic double-click=open option. In my Mac Info (on file) dialogue box many of my older swf files appear as programs with which I can open any swf doc. In fact, *all* of my hundreds of stand alone swf files are now set to open with some other swf doc (!) meaning that that doc appears and not the doc I am opening. It looks like the swf file has been recognized as a program rather than a simple swf file.
3. After much frustration, I tried to set Flash Player 9 in the Mac 'Info' dialogue box and then choose 'Change All,' but this is not allowed. It keeps wanting to open my swf with some other swf doc listed in the Info. I then changed each doc separately via the Mac Info dialogue box. This finally stuck ... but when I tried to Change All again with a doc set to open with Flash Player 9, everything returned set to open with some random swf file listed in the 'Open with' dialogue box (and these swf files should not be listed there as programs).
4. This entire confusion makes me think that the Adobe/Apple conflict is somehow coming into play here. Who is to blame I do not know, but I wish Adobe would address this since we how have used Flash to create very complex and beautiful swf docs for the classroom now have to open each doc by dragging it to the Flash Player in the dock, and this means that we must explain this to any user.
5. Summary: For whatever reason 'Open With' is confused, I should be able to correct the problem with choosing Flash Player 9 and then click 'Change All.' Can anyone tell me what is going on and how to solve this?
PS: This is happening to others whose Macs are totally separate from mine.

I would think you could test the connectivity by playing them
locally to ensure they work. If the files all work fine on your
local PC, try copying them to a web server that isn't using SSL. If
they work fine there, then try the SSL. Basically, you want to pare
away the layers in order to see where things fall apart.
You may also wish to double check to ensure that all the
necessary files exist in the output folder. For example, maybe
someone forgot to include the associated HTM files. Things like
that.

I can not get my pages where I have swf files to open in firefox. I have several pages
with sound also and they will not open. here is the code that I am using. I have probably
8 pages of flash and the rest of the pages are javascript and html.

This is a magazine on the web and prior issues have loaded in firefox using the same code but not the pages with sound.
I hope someone can help. I have no problems in internet explorer. I am having problems with apple also. I figured if I got firefox working then apple would work. again in prior issues, we could see the pages in apple.

Detect audio in swf file?

Hello,
We are working with a software package that records the
user's screen and audio from their microphone and then saves the
recorded session (video + audio) to an swf file.
Unfortunately sometimes there are audio problems during
recording and when you play back the swf file you can see the video
but you don't hear any sound;.
Is there a way programatically to detect if the file contains
audio or not? Furthermore since all files are indeed intended to
have audio, is there a way to determine if the audio in the file is
something other than the sound of silence (i.e. some actual noise
or activity in the audio stream)?

What's the name of the product? Who is the manufacture? Have you talked to them? I assume this product produces a swf but no fla. It sounds like either the product is defective or you're not using it right. I suppose there are several products that do that the only one that I know about is Captivate.
Captivate has a Forum here at Adobe. You could import the swf and talk to it but I'm still trying to figure that one out so I can't help you there.

How to get SWF files to play in Dreamweaver CS5

I designed an interactive memorial page for my company in flash catalyst 5.5. According to the tutorial, it should be simple to insert into a webpage in Dreamweaver. Insert, media, SWF.
When I try to preview it in internet explorer, there is a blank square where the object is supposed to be. I do get an Adobe Shockwave symbol in the center but that is all. My flash player and shockwave are both updated. I can't imagine what could be going on with this. I am fairly new to web development and have no formal training but my boss is growing impatient.

Wow...more learning here I see. My goal at the moment is to start a root directory. As it stands now, I have only 1 set of files in the DW "sites and servers" (Remote ftp site) I am reading that I need to also have what I think is called a "root" directory where I keep all my images in my PC. I have never done this. I go to DW and add 1 picture at a time, whether in this new slide show or any images I want to insert. I usually go to my off site server, copy the http and insert.
I am reading that I need to create a local file (folder) on my PC that somehow "links" everything. So when I go to insert this image, it then transfers it to the remote server.
I am not even sure what a SWF file is. I think it is a code as you say that somehow has all the image names in it that eventually get inserted. Again, I am still learning.
In another thread in this forum I have been asking questions regarding the public_html issues. I have seemed to have solved that by adding this text into the "Host" file box in the server configuration. Never was there. Now I know why I had to always delete this tag.
I have a folder in my PC that contains the slide show pictures. I have an identical folder in my remote server. So it plays now in both DW preview and the live site. Now my issue is I am unable to add pictures. It is like I have "done" this particulat SWF file and that code wont allow me to "add" to it. Hard to say what the deal is. I can preview these 2 new images in DW and they are in my PC folder and he remote folder, but the live version is short these 2 images now. So my only thought is to make a brand new SWF file and start over adding one picture at a time.
I read your comments about how you do it, but it is still not sinking in. I do not understand this whole file upload thing, or this complete "package" transfer. In DW you start by making a flash media with a name. The you go and add 1 image to it at a time. I cannot see an option in the square box with the "F" logo where you can dump a whole slide show there.
I do not want to seem too dumb, as I try to grasp as best as possible, but if you can explain in specific steps, even if it is a "test" 2+ images slide show, it would help.
I am going to read the help files tonight because my first challange is to get a root folder added to DW. I think this is the utmost importance as I do not have one now. My files are scattered eveywhere in my PC. It is I "pick" images from everywhere to add to the website. Although my remote has all the images I am using (and plenty more i am not)
Hopefully, after 10 years of having this site given to me in DW format, I will start to understand it as time goes on. A gift from a Digipen student who had a task of building a website, which he made for me.

Using a container to load several swf files and play them

I need some help. I want to use several swf files and have them be called upon in a container file and play them in sequence. It's a presentation that needs to play thru but still have the ability to stop, click on items, open a popup and then continue on in the presentation. I am building all the individual "chapters" and their "sub-chapters" as swf files, with the hope that I can load them in order. I am relatively new to AS3. Help?

If you will be loading swf files into a container then you will use the Loader class to accomplish that, so give that a looking over in the help documents and see what you can do. If you have a problem getting it to work, post your code and describe what you have done.

Can't get swf. file to play in dreamweaver

Trying to put video into dreamweaver. I created swf file in flash. Can't seem to get it play when i import the file to html page.
What files need to be in the Dreamweaver folder? HTML, Skin, swf? thanks for any help. Owen

When you create the file in Flash, it is usually best to also have it publish an html page. Copy the embedding code that Flash creates in the html file and paste it into your intended html file. The Flash code may also be reliant on including a .js file, which it will also create, so that needs to be placed in the site folder. The header of the Flash html may include a script link to this js file, so you need to copy/paste that in the intended html page as well.
