Symptom:
Audio interference, music skipping or stopping, sounds like a scratched CD
Happens when:
Listening to Pandora Radio through either USB headphones or audio jack headphones and doing one of the following:
Bridge (CS6) is generating preview files
When scrolling through lots of files
When using adjustment sliders in ACR
System I'm editing on:

  • Terrible audio interference when using isight

I started a new thread for this since the others were archived and not accepting further comments, even though the subject remains unresolved.
There is an incredible amount of audio interference when using the iSight in iMovie. The best way to describe it is as an electronic hiss that overshadows a voice or other audio subject. While the video is clear, the audio hiss prevents me from posting any videos on uTube or using them for any other purposes.
Any insight on the isight? Any recommendation for external usb mics that may help?

Thanks, Defcom. But I tried all different sorts of settings. I guess I can't assume that the tiny little mic and webcam could be of any good quality. At this point, I am taking suggestions for a good external usb stereo mic or webcam with built in stereo mic.

  • IPhone 3G audio interference when docked

I have an original iPhone 3G from launch day and when ever I dock it I get constant audio interference. This is not GSM interference it sounds like being generated by something in the phone and out either the 3.5mm headphone jack or our the headphone connector on the universal dock. I have two universal docks, one at home and one at work and a Belkin Tune Base direct in my car and all do it. If I take the audio cable out of the dock and plug it into the iPhone directly it does the same. If I remove the iPhone from the dock the noise disappears. It's worse when I have the phone docked and start an app, it's like i'm hearing the phone accessing the memory or processing. There is definatly something wrong and generating interference when the dock connector is in use. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone else had it, perhaps I have a faulty iPhone?
I'd like to know also if this is an issue on the 3GS as my contracts up mext month...

The iPhone will cause interference with speakers of any kind when in close proximity. I would assume that because it is docked, the interference is strengthened because of the wire being attached to it. Although the iPhone will effect speakers around it, it will not effect sound quality on your iPhone headset.

  • Audio "interference" When Not Recording/Recording

    Hey everyone,
First, here is the set-up. Macbook Pro, Garageband '09, Apogee One interface all being used with an IOmega firewire external drive.
I am a bit particular, however, I noticed recently that there is some "audio interference" present when I am playing.
It basically sounds like random bursts of pops that do in fact, register on the volume display.
What is causing this? Is there a setting that will make it go away? Its really not affecting anything but none-the-less its annoying.
    thanks everyone!

I downloaded the SL update...i believe that is the latest one.
Quick update: The "popping interference" is only happening in Garageband NOT in Maestro. Very strange...

  • Having audio interference when I record since upgrading to Yosemite.

I narrate audiobooks from home.  I upgraded to Yosemite shortly after it was released and started noticing weird random bleeps in my recordings that are not in the room.  I have tried different XLR cables, even a different interface and I am starting to realize that this interference started the weekend I upgraded.
Are there any known issues related to audio interference with Yosemite?
Second, is it possible to downgrade to Mavericks?   I don't want to restore to a time machine back up prior to upgrading to Yosemite because I have done a lot of work on my macbook (files, bought music and TV shows and installed software).  I cannot remember everything I've done.  I really just want to get my current state of computer with Mavericks.  Unless, of course, anybody knows of a fix for this problem?

After upgrading to Yosemite, I am noticing audio interference in an external wireless speaker when playing anything through my mid-2009 15" MacBook Pro. I hear clicks and pops, especially when I refresh or manipulate a page in Safari.

  • Why some audio of the keynote widget don't work when I preview on the iPad??!!

Now I am making a book about helping people learning Chinese Pinyin (the Chinese phonics).
And I made some interactive exercise with keynote widget, that is you first see a vowel, and there are four colored boxes which have four different sounds, you can just click each box to hear what sound it is, and click the check mark to select your answer. one exercise includes about 7 this kind of questions.
The problem is it works perfectly on keynote, but some sounds just lost every time when I preview on iPad!!
The OS x is 10.8.4, the ibooks author is 2.0, the keynote is 5.3, and I am using the latest iMac and iPad 3.
And the audio file is .m4a. It seems everything is just fine, I feel very frustrated!! Is there something I missed,?
PS, I downloaded a free ibook, which called Korean Phonics, they used the same way to make this exercise, it works very well!! There must be a solution!!
Please let me know if you know how to solve this problem!!!
    Thanks a lot!!!

I can not try it on a Mac right now but I will do it tomorrow.
I put an other keyboard (usb-logitech) and it works perfect.
What I also tried to say is that I didn't do anything wrong on my brand new keyboard ( This iMac is a Month old ).
I also wanted to know if there was known problems linked to wireless keyboards...
    Thanks a lot.

  • Getting the message "Error generating preview" when building the installer.

I'm getting this error when attempting to expand the application in the installer.  However, I am able to preview the built application without errors.  Please see the attached screen shots.  I have built this application several times before without incident.  I made some modifications to the application and now I'm getting this error.  What does it mean?  I'm using Win XP and LV8.5.

If I understand this correctly, you are able to build the executable--it's just that you are not able to see the preview in the Application Builder. Is that right?
I searched some of our internal documentation. I found a record of a customer who also experienced the "unable to generate preview" error when upgrading to a new version. He was able to solve it by making sure that all of the VIs ini the build were saved in the current version of LabVIEW. This may be helpful for you.
Also, I would like to recommend that you create a new forum thread rather than posting on a very old thread like this one. You will generate more discussion from the other ni.com users. It also helps our R&D department to automatically keep track of how often these issues are reported.

  • Canon 5d2 DNG +custom profiles = bad preview in Bridge?

I'm using DNG Profile Editor (1.0.0.39 Beta 2) to make custom profiles for my new Canon 5D Mark II, and then using DNG Converter (5.2) plus Photoshop CS3 Bridge to process images. All on Windows XP.
After my 5D2 custom profiles were in place I noticed that the image preview in Bridge CS3 was "bad." The Bridge preview is very blurry and does not update when changes are made to the DNG file via ACR. For example, if I change exposure in ACR and click "Done" or "Open in Photoshop, the change is saved OK in the DNG file but the Bridge preview remains the original blurry image.
Took a long time to figure this out because I did not immediately associate the problem with the creation of custom profiles. Older 5D2 DNG files previewed OK in Bridge, as did DNG files from my other cameras. I even re-converted some old camera raw files to DNG and they previewed OK in Bridge. There are custom profiles in place for those older cameras.
I spent a lot of time on the usual suspects - purging cache, reseting preferences. All to no avail. Then I removed all my custom profiles and deleted the index.dat file. Ran DNG converter again to make new DNG files from the 5D2 raw. Now the Bridge preview was OK. Then I restored my custom profiles and converted raw to DNG again, getting bad Bridge previews again. Yet the previous converted files would still preview OK in Bridge.
My conclusion: The DNG converter is using camera profiles during the conversion, and in the case of 5D Mark II raw files is creating an error. I'm guessing it is putting an embedded jpeg in the DNG file that somehow confuses Bridge.
I've repeated the tests many times now. I've changed the DNG Converter "jpeg preview" preference to none, medium and full. For the 5D2 files I get bad Bridge previews on all settings. But I get good Bridge previews on my Canon 20D and Canon 1Ds DNG files regardless of any settings. Regardless of the presence or absence of custom profiles, regardless of the jpeg preview size, regardless of the ACR default settings.
So I'm hoping the Adobe team can take a look at this. Or anyone willing to confirm or deny my tests. I don't have an easy way to post a DNG file, but could email one of my "bad" ones to anyone willing to take a look.

The lack of response to this post forced me to keep testing. Now I've more closely pinpointed the problem and found an easy work around. First some background.
ACR camera profiles are stored in two places. The Adobe supplied profiles are in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
and your custom profiles are in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
Adobe Camera Raw, and it turns out the DNG Converter, both build an Index.dat file in this last folder. Apparently this index is built by scanning both camera profile directory trees and building a list of all the profiles it finds. It then sorts that list alphabetically by the profile name that is embedded in the file, not the Windows file name.
The "Adobe Standard" profile for a camera has a file name like "Canon EOS 5D Mark II Adobe Standard.dcp", but embedded in that file is the profile name of just "Adobe Standard". That's why only "Adobe Standard" shows up in the drop down list of profiles in ACR. And that's why "Adobe Standard" appears before "Camera Faithful", which appears before "Camera Landscape". It's alphabetical order.
Now, when you create a custom profile with the DNG Profile Editor, the "Export" function puts "Canon EOS 5D Mark II" on the front of the name. If you are an idiot, like me, you type over all that with something simple like "5D2 Bouce Flash" for the profile name. But wait, "5D2 Bounce Flash" sorts alphabetically before "Adobe Standard" and appears first in the ACR drop down menu. Sounds OK so far.
But then the magic occurs. The DNG converter uses the camera profiles. It actually accesses that Index.dat file, and if it does not exist, the DNG converter will rebuild it, just like ACR. Why it does that I can't imagine. Seems to me that the DNG converter should be simply converting raw to DNG and passing the EXIF and embedded camera jpeg along as is. What need does it have for camera profiles?
Anyhow, if that 5D2 profile is first in the list due to its alpahbetical name, the resulting DNG file will confuse Bridge. Bridge will display a fuzzy preview and will never update that preview, or the thumbnail, when you make adjustments in ACR.
But if you name the 5D2 custom profile such that it sorts alphabetically after "Adobe Standard", then all is OK. The DNG files can be previewed and thumbed OK by Bridge. So I named my custom profile "My 5D2 Bounce Flash", a simple workaround.
Now I can move on to more important things. Like generating a good custom profile for the 5D2. So far the Adobe Standard profile beats anything I've generated. Especailly if I remove that curious Point Curve which can sometimes muck up the shadows.
And now that Bridge previews are "OK" I can work on the mystery of why Bridge Previews of 5D2 DNG files do not match the previews of their equivalent TIF or PSD files. If you're curious you can see samples and read more about that here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=30748423

  • Previews in Bridge & Vista -- can't compare .psd files because...

Vista won't show me a preview and Bridge only opens with one window.
It's important for me to clean out my backup by making sure that I have the most recent graphic file stored (I have multiple copies of files backed up at different times). I can't do this easily because I can't see .psd previews in Vista, and I can only open Bridge once. Therefore, I can't compare files that are in different locations & on different hard drives next to each other. Does anyone have a solution for this? (btw, I don't think Bridge is that hot of a program -- it's not very flexible and all it does is crash.)
    Camille

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I reduced Bridge to compact mode & could then open multiple windows. I spent all morning cleaning & organizing my drives! I have a few more questions, though:
    1. When you're looking at the folders in Bridge, all you see is a blank folder. It doesn't show a graphic of what's inside the folder the way that Vista does. Is there a way to get Bridge to do that?
    2. When you're looking at folders in Vista, most graphic file formats generate a view of the image. But if the folder has Photoshop files in it, all you see is a .psd icon. I'm assuming there is no way to generate a view of a .psd file in Vista. But, even when I'm in Photoshop and doing something basic, such as opening a file, I don't get a view of the image (only an icon) unless I actually click on the file, then a view appears in the dialog box. I don't understand why the .psd files don't generate images in the program itself. I thought it might be a setting in my hardware that's not turned on, because this just doesn't make sense to me.
    Thank you.

  • AI previews in Bridge

I have a team of 4 designers all contributing Illustrator files to a library of graphics.  When I few the library in Bridge, some of the files are generating previews, but some are not.  What setting(s) would keep a preview from being made? Some of us are using CS6, some CS5.  Files are being saved as CS5 so the CS5 users won't encounter issues when opening.  Some files have multiple artboards, but the lack of preview does not coincide with having more than one artboard.
Below is a screenshot of what I'm seeing...

Try saving the .ai files with Create PDF Comparable File checked in the save dialog. This will make the file a little bigger but I find files saved without this checked don't preview in Mac OS quicklook.

  • Audio stuttering in generated MP4 file from Captivate 6

I'm using Captivate 6.0.1.240 on a Windows 7 machine. I opened a project that I created in Captivate 5.5 and published the project to an MP4 file. This project is straightforward: I captured video, imported audio into the captured file, and then edited the file so the video and audio match up.
The problem is that I get audio stuttering in the generated MP4 file. This problem doesn't occur when I preview the file within Captivate or when I generate an SWF file. I've implemented the potential solutions in this forum but so far nothing has worked. Since I'm viewing the MP4 file on my hard drive, bandwidth isn't an issue, either.
My project is for an online course for RoboHelp, so I would prefer to use Adobe technologies to create the course. However, I can't do that if Captivate won't generate working MP4 files. I would be happy to share the output file so you can see what's happening. If you need any other information to solve this problem, please let me know.

Hi, Anjaneai. The size of the generated MP4 file using the default settings is 115MB. However, as I said in my original message, I'm generating this file on my own hard drive so there aren't any bandwidth issues. I have noticed that the time it takes to generate the MP4 file takes significantly longer than the time Captivate originally estimates. For example, Captivate says the project file will take a little over 3 minutes to convert, but the actual time was a little less than one hour. I'm not sure if that's due to the fact that I was running Firefox and the associated Flash plugin at the same time.
The audio is a separate object on the timeline. I simply added the audio within the Properties tab.
I'm not sure what smaller resolution I should try. Please send a suggested setting (perhaps the lowest one?) and I'll regenerate it to see if that works.
    Thanks,
    Eric Butow
