Audio is High Pitched, Sped Up, and Skipping

I have 3 Mini-DV I recorded one after another.  They are from a Sony camcorder and are all imported in AVI format.
All 3 of the tapes play just fine in windows media player or any other player.
However, the first, when imported in to PRE7 for editing is messed up.  The audio is high pitched, sped up, and sort of skips in a double kind of way if that makes any sense.
The other 2 tapes imported just fine for editing.  Is there a way to make sure the settings are all meshing up with this one tape?  I dont think I changed any settings on the camera between tapes but maybe I did something with the audio.
Anyways, any help is appreciated.  I do not have the tapes any more, just the AVI files (which as I said play fine outside of PRE7).
TIA
Steve

Sometimes, the header data can become corrupted in an AV file, or can be either incorrectly, or incompletely written.
Though the manifestation of symptoms is different, I have an issue with maybe 1:50 converted DV-AVI's. I can feed any of my conversion programs segmented files from a client's camera. All recorded at the same time, on the same camera. Only difference will be the exact time of recording. Every now and then, one of these files will Import into PrPro with the wrong Duration, say coming in as 00;03;45;00, when it should be 00;45;00;00. The rest in the batch will be perfectl. I've found that if I Import the "faulty" file into PE, it will play fine and with the correct Duration. Though already in DV-AVI Type II format w/ 48KHz 16-bit Audio, I just Export with the same exact settings and this fixes the Duration issue. G-Spot sees each file exactly the same, and with proper Duration. They have the exact same size - one just shows up with the wrong Duration in PrPro. When this happens, the Duration is nearly always around 03 min, though not the exact Duration each time. Something happens in the hearder and PrPro does not like it. PE has none of those issues.
In my case, I am not doing the capture, so I do not have the leisure of redoing it. This has also happened with several clients' files, from different (usually HDD) cameras, and are most often all MPEG. In your case, you have corrected the problems, but when you have a moment, you might re-Capture that one tape again in PE, just to see if it comes in fine.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Logic 7 audio playing high pitched noise

    Hi Discussion Group.
I am having some major difficulties with LP7.0.1 (downgraded frrom 7.2.2 and was working fine with 7.2.2) and the motu 828 mkII that just crept up on his system today.
An audible high pitched noise when playing logic after initially starting 10 seconds after first play. Also after stopping playback the high pitched sound lingers.
Logic complains of sync problems between audio and MIDI.
All music is heard fine with iTunes. there is no other audio software playing at the time of logic playback.
Nothing has changed on his system to create this. before today everything was working fine. We removed everything from the firewire bus and only the MOTU is present.
playing logic fine out the built-in audio just fine.
Changing the clock mode to autosync does not help and iTunes stops working. internal works fine. Also setting the I/O buffer size to 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512 and relaunching the driver each time did not help.
    no MIDI card
Here are screen shots of his MOTU control panel and Logic Audio Drivers preferences
    http://www.enabled.com/~noah/MOTU/
Any clues on what else to try? I am at a loss here.
    cheers,
    Noah

I've heard of weird things like this happening to 828's before.
There is a reset procedure, either in the manual or on the Motu website - try running that and seeing whether it fixes it.

  • A215-7422 Audio Issue: High-pitched noise

About 2 weeks ago, the audio would suddenly stop.  After restarting the laptop, it would work fine again.  This morning, however, the audio completely died.  Restarting it only gave me a low frequency click upon start up.  Updating the drivers and the system only made the laptop give off a high-pitched noise through the speakers that persists through turning the volumn down/off and plugging in headphones, on top of which it continues not to play an audio.

A quick update if it helps: I went in a disabled "High Definition Audio Device" and the high pitched noise from the speakers stopped.  Not sure if that helps anyone.

  • Envy 14 1095la. High pitched whine sound and fan cycling.

Hi. I'm in contact with the customer service about 2 (and a 3rd maybe related) annoyances I have on my Envy 14 1095la (XC515LA#ABM) notebook. I want to share them here in case someone has some clues and guidance about them.
Fan cycles continously on and off every couple of seconds
... on light usage (using the low performance GPU and a text editor).
Reading the temps using Coretemp and HDinfo, I can hear the fan kicking in when CPU temp is above 35º and turning off when it reverts back to this value.
Enabling the "FAN ALWAYS ON" option on the BIOS (as suggested by the tech guy) has no effect over the problem (yes, the fan remains always on, but you can still hear it cycling RPM constantly).
Since this model has no option to regulate the FAN via software, the only solution seems to be a BIOS upgrade.
Sometimes, I can hear a high pitched sound coming from the computer.
Tech guy suggested me to experiment a bit with this to better understand what can be the problem. I've found so far:
Seems to be far more frequent if the battery is in place (without the battery I heard it only once, and quiet).
Seems to be more louder if the battery is in use.
The sound seems to originate from the Seagate Momentus HD, but It is so high pitched that makes difficult to point the exact origin.
Messing with the sound options (muting mics, audio etc) seems to have no effect.
Sometimes I feel a strong vibration on the palmrest
Perhaps related to the previous, sometimes I can feel a strong vibration on the right palmrest.
Resting the notebook over different surfaces (or lifting it in the air) seems to have no effect.
Reading a bit on this forum I can see that  the Seagate Momentus HD is a strong candidate for the vibration+high pitched sound problem, but again, if anyone has a better idea or an aditional test I can made to be sure, is welcomed.
    Thanks!

Well, notebook is out for repair.
I've in touch with a level 2 support guy that acknowledged that the "fan cycling" thing is odd and will pass a report to the engineer team (hope HP is not lazy because the Envy refresh and new BIOSes).
About the high pitched noice and vibrations, they will check the HD, but since SMART values are alright, I doubt they´ll change it.

  • N95 - High pitch noise (hiss) and GPS struggling t...

    Hi Guys.
Since I bought my N95 I can hear a hiss even when I'm not on call (all the time) and I bought Nokia Maps Navigation and it just worked once (a fews minutes after I bought this service). Now it's not working anymore (I've paid for 1 month service and it worked for a few minutes)...
Are those common issues? I read someone complaining about a high pitch noise (and saying that he had to change his phone more than once so it finally was replaced for a non-faulty one).
    Any help appreciated...
    Regards,
    Daniel

Well, my hearing is fine! I honestly do not have any high pitch noise or anything. I gave the phone to 7 of my friends and they could not hear anything either. • High pitched squeal noise and low end rumble RME Fireface 800 Macbook pro 2011

    Hi there,
I just updated Mac OSX Snow Leopard and my Fireface 800 has started emitting a high pitched squealing noise when turned on and connected via Firewire 800 cable.
Also my 17" Macbook pro requested a hard reset last week for the first time, after this problem began.
When my subwoofer is connected, a low end rumble is emitted at the same time as the squeal, and persists until turned off and on again.
    Any ideas?

  • After encoding a sequence, music audio (Track 1) is fine, but speech audio (Track 2) is sped up and crackling.

    Hello forumites,
So I've run into an odd problem I haven't experienced before. I exported my docu film last night. I have my music audio on A1 and speech audio on A2 in the timeline. When reviewing it, the music audio plays back fine, but the speech audio is playing back slightly fast (resulting in a bit of a chipmunk effect) and it's crackling (possibly because of the speed-up). The video appears to be in sync with this weird speed-up.
I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro and the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Although this is happening on two different systems, here are my computer specs.
    PC 1:
    Custom built desktop
    CPU: FX-8350 4 GHz
    Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R.2
    Memory: 16 GB DDR3
SSD: 256 GB Samsung 840 EVO (Primary)
HDD: 2 TB WD Red (Data)
GPU: 2x Radeon 6950 (CrossFireX mode)
    PC 2:
    ASUS G53S laptop
    CPU: Core i7-2830QM 2 GHz
    Memory: 6 GB DDR3
SSD: 120 GB Crucial M4 (Primary)
    HDD: Seagate 500 GB (Data)
    GPU: GeForce 460M
I did a bit of troubleshooting and thought that perhaps I nested sequences too many times. So, I did a few test renders from the ground up on each sequence where the nesting gets deeper. I got up to two nesting levels (where one sequence has a nested sequence which contains a nested sequence - Sequence-ception ) with all audio rendered normally.
However, the next nesting level resulted in the audio issue. So, I copied and pasted the timeline from the previous sequence to the current sequence, overwriting the nested timeline. Oddly enough, it still caused the problematic audio, which has me thinking that it's not related to nested sequences after all.
Keep in mind that playback inside Premiere works fine. I even created a new sequence from scratch into which to paste the timeline. Also, encoding using different codecs didn't make a difference. Of course, I also did the basic things and updated my video card drivers, restarted my computer, uninstalled/reinstalled Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, and tried encoding without GPU hardware acceleration.
Here are some 5-second DNxHD renders to get a grasp of what the results are.
    Double Nested: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0xp50qbm48gjupd/Double%20Nested.mxf?dl=0 (Good audio)
Triple Nested: Dropbox - Triple Nested.mxf (Bad audio)
I should probably mention that I configured symbolic links to remap the Users folder to my data drive, as that has been known to cause some problems with Windows, but I made sure to link all the assets in my project using the actual file paths rather than the symlinks. Also, I've been rendering other projects prior to the previous patch with this setup and didn't experience any issues.
Has this happened to anybody else as well? I did some searching for this issue but I'm apparently the only one. I'm just hoping this is some weird bug introduced in the last patch.

That may be so, but why even have that feature if one can't even take full advantage of it? I'll be asking Adobe that if I don't get many suggestions or input here.
    Thanks for responding, though!

  • Exported audio is high pitched rather then normal

After i edit a sound clip cutting and moving them around. Everything sounds normal and good, but once i export the audio clip and play the exported file. It sounds like its playing twice as fast and speed up. I don't know what to do. Can someone please tell me whats going on?

I'm having this problem as well. I think it has to do with mixing sampling rates. My project is 48k and I had one track in 44.1. Other 48k tracks sounded fine in the export mix, but the 44.1k music sounded sped up. I worked around it for now, but resampling the music track before using it, but this is an annoying extra stamp that I never needed before.
I should also note, that this issue is not consistent for me. Some 44.1 tracks mix in just fine.

  • High pitch whine noise from speakers and other issues

I just got a 2010 Mac Mini and transferred all of my data and apps and accessories from my old Mac Mini which was running 10.6.4 (2007 I think). One of the accessories is a Griffin Firewave. I had to get a new firewire cable to attach the Firewave since the new Mac Mini has a firewire 800 port. On the old Mac it worked great, I was able to run 5.1 speakers with no problem. With the new Mac things aren't so nice. I get a high pitch whine through the speakers. The whine will go up and down in volume with the volume control on my sound system (Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra) as well as with the Mac volume control. I can increase the gain in the Firewave app which will increase the volume of what I want to hear without increasing the volume of the whine, however it will cause the audio I want to hear to distort. The other issue I have is that when I put the Mac to sleep it seems to cut all power to the firewire port, causing the Firewave to turn off and lose its settings. I believe this to be a bad design on the Firewave's part but the old Mac did not shut off the power to the firewire port when going to sleep so this was not an issue. So my questions are, does anyone else have problems with external sound cards having a high pitch whine noise and is there a way to prevent the firewire port from turning off when the Mac sleeps?
BTW, I have tried reinstalling the Firewave driver (several times) and I've unplugged and re-plugged the firewire cable at both ends. I have both the Mac and the sound system plugged into a line conditioner so I doubt it's dirty power. I do realize that the Firewave only claims support up to 10.5 but it was working without issue on the old Mac Mini on 10.6

I have the same problem. I have an early 2009 Mac mini and get the whiny noise from my powered speakers. The volume of the whine noise tends to change smoothly up or down, and often does a stuttering effect along with it. It stays there for up to a minute or so and then eventually goes away. It always seems to happen at random times.
I've heard this same sound effect coming from a podcast that I was listening to on my iPod Touch. It seems that the interviewer was recording from a Mac mini as well, though not sure. The sound in the recording was exactly like what I hear coming from my Mac mini. I often thought that this was a problem with my speaker system, but was surprised to find that others are experiencing the same kind of issues.

  • Stuttering and skipping audio, and an accidental QuickTime workaround

    Hi,
I've been having periodic problems with skipping and stuttering audio since the 10.5.6 or 10.5.6 update to OS X. Lately, it's become worse. Just about all of the audio on my system, except for Flash, stutters and skips. I visited the Genius bar at the local Apple store yesterday, and he had never seen anything like it, and suggested an archive and install of the OS, which I'm not quite ready to jump to yet. So this morning, I decided to post my problem here, and I thought it would be a good idea to make a recording of my audio problem so people would know exactly what I was talking about. Since this problem also exists in iTunes, I decided to open a QuickTime Audio Recording window while I had a particular audio file playing in iTunes repetitively. So I had the audio file playing, with its stuttering and skipping, and I opened the QuickTime Audio Recording, and waited for another skipping and stuttering occurrence. To my surprise, the skipping and stuttering stopped! I let the same audio file play for about 20 minutes, and it played perfectly. Also, while the QuickTime Audio Recording window was open, all of the other sounds (alert sounds from apps, etc.) played perfectly. When I closed the Audio Recording window, the audio problems came back! So the good news is that I've apparently found a workaround to my problem. The bad news is that I still don't know how to fix it properly. The Apple Genius suggested that I download and reinstall QuickTime, which I did, but that didn't solve the problem. I have a feeling now that this problem is related to QuickTime in some way. I'm wondering if anyone can offer additional suggestions as to a fix for this. When I right-click on an audio file and select the "Open With..." option, among the choices are three QuickTime versions, 7.5.5, 7.6, and 7.6.4, which make me think that there might be leftover components from older versions of QuickTime on my system. Is there any way that I can do a "clean" install of QuickTime that's more thorough than just a download and install?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi, QuickTimeKirk,
    You asked an interesting question, and here are the results;
When I tried to open a file with QuickTime 7.5.5, it opened, and the About box reported that it was indeed QuickTime 7.5.5.
When I tried to open a file with QuickTime 7.6, the QuickTime menu options briefly appeared for 1-2 seconds, and then disappeared. After this, I couldn't find any indication that QuickTime was running, neither by cmd-tabbing nor by looking at the processes in Activity Monitor.
And QuickTime 7.6.4 opens fine, and is listed as the default app for opening this particular audio file.
Here's some more info. I did a Spotlight search on "QuickTime", and it found two versions of the QuickTime app. Version 7.6.4 was in the Applications folder of my system drive, and Version 7.6 was in the Applications folder of a 10.4.11 installation that I have on another partition of the same drive. I found no listing for a 7.5.5 app, but when I looked again at the 7.5.5 About box, I saw the following:
    QuickTime Player
    Version 7.5.5 (249.24)
    Quicktime(tm) Version 7.6.4 (1327.73)
    Copyright (c) 1989-2008 , Apple Inc.,
    All Rights Reserved
Is this normal, to have two different versions listed for a single instance of QuickTime?
    Thanks for your help.

  • High pitched crackling and scraping sound when playing videos

I just got a video iPod, loaded a couple of TV shows that I bought through iTunes, and tried to play them. I get a loud, high pitched electronic crackling and scraping sound during playback. The music I louded plays perfectly, so what is the problem here?

Thanks. I'm planning to go there this morning. I just bought it yesterday, so they need to take care of it. I did try reloading the videos, but with the same result.

  • Qt high pitched squeeling sound

    Hi
I have a MOTU 828mkII on a G4 Powerbook with OSX 10.4.8 and i'm getting this very high pitched beep/squeel and clipping sound whenever i try to play any audio in Logic Pro 7.1 or Reason 3.0 and also when watching videos in iTunes. However, playing music in iTunes is fine. I get the same problem when watching quicktime videos online (e.g. movie trailers from apple.com).
I reinstalled the latest MOTU drivers and it didnt fix it. I tried reinstalling QuickTime before and it fixed it but when the problem came back and i tried it again it didnt work.
I suspect its a Quicktime codec issue but can't be too sure.
Anyone experienced anything like this? any suggestions?
    Thanks.

You say it's not mechanical, but it does sound like it could be a fan or drive bearing. Especially if you are in a warm environment.
Do you have external speakers connected or are you using your internal speaker?

  • High pitch noise in CS4 and CS5.5

    Hello.
Firstly I want to say that yes I know people have asked this question before but as far as I can tell none of them have been solved. Some have somewhat useful answers but none of them truely solve the problem. This thread in particular probably has the most information about the problem I'm having http://forums.adobe.com/message/4298535#4298535
I recently tried Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS4 (trial version) to replace my Corel Video Studio X6 which tried to replace Windows Movie Maker. Video Studio and Movie Maker both crash whenever I imported large video files.
Anyway I'm getting a problem where the video files I import to Premiere Pro CS4 and CS5.5 have a high pitch noise in the video preview.
It's a high pitch noise almost like it's getting feedback from something. Also when someone is supposed to be talking there's a very low distortion, like the audio started playing in very slow motion but the high pitch noise is still present.
I'll put a link at the end with the video file that's giving me trouble.
The video and audio are in a single AVI file. The video format is H264 shot at 60fps and the audio should be Mpeg-1 L2, 48khz at 320kbps. I don't know if the video's audio is in 24bit or 16bit.
I've tried different settings for premiere. Trying 60fps and 30fps for the framerate for the project. Trying 44khz and 32khz and 96khz didn't fix it. Using the "Desktop" preset in CS4 and Custom for CS5.5.
My audio hardware is a Logitech G930. It's a wireless USB headset with microphone. My motherboard audio is Realtek HD Audio. Both are enabled but I only use the headset now and nothing is being sent to the Realtek audio chip (according to Windows' sound options). The headset plays audio at 16bit 48khz.
The video file plays fine in every media program I own that can play the h264 codec. With the exception of Movie Maker and Video Studio x6. Video Studio will preview the video and audio just fine but when I try and skip around the program hangs and crashes. Movie Maker just plain crashes when I try and import the video. Some of the programs that can play the video are VLC, Media Player 11, and Media Player Classic.
I'm not sure if Final Cut Pro has the same problem. I don't have a Mac so I can't test it.
Here's a sample video that works the way it should. I pulled a BIK file from a game and converted it to H264 in AVI. Not sure what it's audio format is.
    http://www.mediafire.com/watch/15fr85n78xfu94x/Opening_Cinematic_Placeholder.avi
Just click the download button at the top right.
Here's an afflicted file. Not the exact specific file I have been talking about, but it has the same codecs. This one is shorter in length and smaller in size. It still has the high pitch noise, but since there is no one talking in this you don't hear the weird low pitch distortions.

Just click the download button at the top right.
If there's anymore infor you need let me know.
    Thanks.

    >single AVI file. The video format is H264
H.264 will not work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115
-Insignia camera uses H.264 to either AVI... SOME to MOV wrapper
-so use the MOV wrapper if YOUR Insignia camera offers that option
-Says VLC will convert in reply #6 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1172956

As Jim said, not within the design specifications because it is non-standard video

  • High pitched and prone to breaking up phone calls via Continuity through iPhone 5s on computer end

On my Mid 2011 Mac mini running OS X 10.10, when I attempt to call someone through my iPhone 5s, the sound is extremely high pitched and prone to breaking up on my end. It sounds fine on the other end, when I use my iPad 2, and when I just call on my iPhone. Any idea why? Sound recording of my voicemail login prompt from my Mac: https://mega.co.nz/#!ocRWgLoD!P-Ps_mHRgXAag1jfaYPU2ZpGfECVP2YR9Z-E4G4Z4Sk

I'm experiencing the same issue between my 5s (8.0.2) and my late 2012 Mini (10.10).  It reminds me of the kind of sounds you get with digital audio clocking issues between devices.  I've scoured the internet, tried several different solutions, and nothing has worked yet.

  • High pitch squeal related to Firewire audio device after 10.6.2 audio patch

So the recent Mac Pro audio update 1.0 (applied on 10.6.2) has reduced my CPU temperature with audio playback (Presonus Firebox Firewire audio interface) and that is great. Also haven't had any machine crashes (grey screens) recently which is also great.
The problem is that when the Firebox is plugged into the firewire port of the Mac Pro there is a constant high pitched whistle of slightly oscillating frequency. If I unplug the Firebox the whistle goes away in a few seconds.
After prolonged use in a quiet room (the kind of room you need for audio recording / mixing work!) the noise is enough to drive me crazy.
I read a post on another forum with other people having the same problem. Can anyone comment here on seeing the same thing? Is there any known work around or fix for this?
When the CPU is under heavy load (e.g. H.264 compression etc.) the noise subsides only to return when there is normal load (i.e. half a dozen apps running).
    Help!
    Thanks

So I was able to back out the update using "Kext Helper b7" and the original IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext and AppleHDA.kext files from a backup before applying the update. It's pretty easy - just drop the two files onto Kext Helper, hit "go" and then reboot.
My ears are no longer in constant pain and I can actually use the Mac Pro again albeit running quite hotter than before.
This is not a fix Apple. The problem looks unrelated to a specific device based on the posts in this thread. Please issue a usable fix for the Mac Pro Audio performance issue.
