Audio is out of sync - Bitrates?

Hi all,
I've been having some problems lately with some Mini DV tapes importing into FCE. When I put it into FCE, the audio lags behind the video a second or two, making it virtually impossible to work with.
I think I might have isolated the problem, but I need some way to fix this ASAP. I copied someone else's questionaire from another post, so hopefully you can help diagnose my problem.
a. Material from what camera? I am using a Mini DV cameras. It's a cheap JVC.
b. Camera set to 12 or 16-bit audio? Currently, it is set to 16-bit. However, I am confident there is other video on the tape that was recorded in 12-bit. The video I need right now is recorded in 16-bit.
c. PAL or NTSC? Not sure, I guessing NTSC as that seems more common.
d. Other audio used? Just these two Mini DV cassettes recorded with a built-in mic.
e. In what format (.aif, .mp3, .wma, etc.) is the video? I'm not sure. Most likely .mov file.
f. What kind of project did you set up? 32kHz audio or 48kHz? I've been trying to figure this out. I have no idea.
g. Is the project in PAL or NTSC? Easy Setup tells me I'm in DV-NTSC 32 kHz.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you very much.
-Justin

Hello Justin,
First, you need to know for sure whether your camcorder/tapes are NTSC or PAL. The manual for your camcorder should tell you.  Generally, if you purchased the camcorder in North America, it is an NTSC camcorder unless you went to unusual lengths to specifically get a PAL camcorder.  PAL is  used in Europe and certain other countries, but not in North America.
If you are sure your video was recorded with 16-bit audio, then you should select the DV-NTSC easy setup in FCE and create a new sequence.  Then capture your video.   If you have already captured your clips, select the DV-NTSC easy setup, create a new sequence and place your clips in the new sequence.  Should fix the out-of-sync-audio problem.
The DV-NTSC 32KHz easy setup is for 12-bit audio only.  If you put 16-bit audio into a sequence created with the DV-NTSC 32KHz easy setup, your audio will be out of sync.
Remember ... 16 bit audio = 48KHz  (default in FCE) ... whereas 12-bit audio = 32KHz

  • Why does the audio go out of sync on my Apple TV?

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed that the audio goes out of sync with any streaming video on my Apple TV (3rd gen) after about 20 minutes of usage.  I have never had this experience in the past and am not sure why it is happening, but one theory is that it has something to do with AirPlay.  I'm pretty sure that this problem only happens after I use AirPlay to connect my Mac to the Apple TV.  I'm not sure if this is the exact source of the issue and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, what solutions may be available.  Thanks.

  • Audio/video out of sync (audio delay) with PowerBeats wireless earphones.

I am having a problem with audio/video sync between my  PowerBeats Wireless earphones with my MacPro and MacBookPro. I have tried pairing, playing the video, pausing the video, turning off the PowerBeats, tuning the PowerBeats on, then starting the video playback again. I have the same audio delay so this not working for me. Anyone have an update as to how to fix this audio/video sync problem?

I am playing MPEG-4 movie files. I did open MPlayerX from my dock, then pulled down File to select Open which then did show the folder where these movie files are stored.  Then I was able to select a movie file, open it, and use "Decrease Audio Delay" to closely sync the audio with the video. I say closely because it is not perfect. Rather than stepping each increase or decrease in one tenth of a second, perhaps a finer adjustment would have been in milliseconds. This is the adjustment that I have with my AVR to sync the audio with the video, so I know this is a possible increment adjustment. The perfect adjustment was in between -0.4 and -0.5 second, however, this was not possible in one tenth second adjustments. The closest adjustment was with -0.4 second rather than with -0.5 second. So, adjustments in milliseconds could have been very near a perfect sync. Perhaps later versions of MPlayer will offer the adjustment selection in milliseconds. Nevertheless, this is working much, much better than before. Thank you so much. I have spent most of this day researching this problem and you have come up with by far the best solution. This problem goes all the way back to 2010 and possibly beyond for Apple products. There are hundreds of reports documenting out of sync audio/video issues with no solution that works as well as MPlayerX. Even the Beats support staff have no idea of how to resolve the audio/video out of sync.

  • Audio video out of sync?

Every movie I have rented and purchased the audio is out of sync with the video. If I pause the movie sometimes it goes back into sync but doesn't last long before it goes out of sync again. I have been trying to resolve this issue for the past week. I have turned off everything on the computer that manages audio, made sure all drivers and software is up to date. I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled. I've set itunes and windows bit rate the exact same and nothing seems to fix the problem. I am running Windows 8 on a new Samsung laptop, previously I was using a Gateway laptop with no problems. From my reasearch the past couple days i see this has been on on going problem with itunes users and I hope someone has a fix. I just rented a movie from Xbox Video and it worked perfectly. I think I am going to have to make the switch to Xbox but I have movies I have downloaded to itunes and would like to watch them.
    Any help would be appreicated.

I was researching the symptom you describe and reocmmend this article named Troubleshooting iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 video playback performance issues found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1718

  • Audio goes out of sync when i open project on diff macs

i have an iMovie project created on an iMac saved to an external.
I go to open the project up on my macbook and the audio is out of sync.
I go back to my iMac with the same project and it works just fine.
I'm a bit confused because both macs use Mac OS X 10.6.4 and iMovie 8.0.6
what other differences might there be?
any input is appreciated as I'd love to work on projects while out in the field!

Try exporting the iMovie project as a single full quality dv format quicktime file.
I use iMovie6 HD and this is my usual procedure that works well.
Make the movie in iMovie, will involve many separate clips. When finished, export (share) as a single full quality dv format quick time file. When I have an hours worth of smaller projects, I create a new iMovie project and import all of the quicktime .dv files for each separate short project. I add chapter markers in this project, then share with iDVD. I then burn an hours worth of stuff at best quality and distribute to family and friends.
iDVD seems to work better with iMovie source that has fewer clips.
BTW: Are you having problems with standard def or hi def iMovie source. Another part of my procedure is that I take the raw tapes and download the entire thing into one iMovie project. I don't edit or change the footage at all, just want to archive to DVD for posterity. In this case, I want to share the iMovie project with iDVD directly. This has worked OK for standard def projects, but my first hi def project (1080i) that I tried, the sound was out of sync. To fix this, I had to create a regular DV widescreen iMovie project, and drag all the clips into it from the HD project. It took over an hour for my humble mac mini to convert the files, but I was then able to share with iDVD and the finished DVD worked ok.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does my audio slip out of sync when exporting?

I am exporting an HD edited video. I shot 1280x720 & editing in FCP 6.0.5. I am using APPLE PRO RES 422 1280x720 30fps 48kz . Should it be (HQ)?? - I do not select re-compress all frames or make self-contained. I just want a QT reference file to view and then burn a DVD. My clip is 43 minutes long. HOWEVER, the audio drifts out of sync BIG TIME. Why is that??
    Here are my sequence settings:
    1280x720 Aspect Ratio HDTV 720p (16:9)
    Square Pixels
    H.264
    Audio at 48kHz

That's what I thought, however, when I play back the .mov file after exporting using "current settings", that's when I experience OUT OF SYNC audio. Do I ignore that and drag and drop that file into iDVD and let iDVD crunch it??? Is it just the playback of that .mov file that is out of sync?

  • Buffering pauses and audio/video out of sync, single RTMP stream w/ simple embed

    Hello,
I am running Flash Media Server on my dedicated CentOS host, and finally connected a single RTMP stream fine and am able to embed and play back the stream, but I am getting constant buffering pauses (approx every 5 secs) and audio/video out of sync by at least 5 seconds. My CPU with Flash Live Encoder is a powerhorse, never over 25% processor or ram usage while streaming, and my upload internet speed is averaging 6-8 mbps which should be more than adequate. I fear the issue is server side, however port 1935 is open and in use, not firewalled on CPU nor the host.
    Any suggestions would be great.

  • When I use media manager to upres clip audio goes out of sync

I captured a clip and put it in DVNTSC 48kHz timeline at OfflineRT NTSC (Photo JPEG) then used the media manager to create a new sequence at full DV NTSC 48kHz res. I choose "Create offline", "set sequences to DV NTSC 48 kHz", and check all the boxes. I save a new project, open the new timeline and recapture the clip. The video looks great--it recaptures in full DVNTSC 48kHz res. But the audio is out of sync (by about 28 frames it looks like). What am I doing wrong? (This is the first time I'm trying this offline-then-online-process.) thanks.

  • Captivate 6 editing - on timeline, audio is out of sync after pausing

I am trying to create a software demo for my company. I am using the HD video and then have imported audio recordings over the video.
The big work portion of this project is adding call-out smart shapes on the video during certain portions to highlight what the voiceover is discussing. However, when I pause the timeline so I can add a smart shape, upon resuming from the pause, the audio is out of sync. This happens even if I hit Stop on the timeline, and use my mouse to move the playhead.
This is adding significant amounts of time to my video editing process, to the point where I am missing deadlines for having the videos created. The only solution I have found to guarantee that the call-out smart shapes are in sync with the audio instructions is to Play the timeline from the very beginning, each time after pausing the audio.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues, or know of a way to fix it? This is adding enough time to the editing process that our company is looking into other video editing softwares to replace Captivate.

I always copy the entire PRIVATE folder from camera to hard drive, and then importing from that hard drive folder in to project.
I am saing original, becouse I do not convert them to diferent format. And how could be the original files of video and  audio out of sync???
I am using Premiere for 10 years, I am not new to this software, but never had this problem.

  • N95 Recorded Video: Video and audio is out of sync

Audio and video is out of sync when I play videos recorded with N95 on my PC. If have used different PC applications to play the video, but all exhibit the same problem.
In the beginning of at video it seems that the audio is about 400milliseconds ahead of the video - you hear the sound first. The different in audio and video is not constant. In a long video (30-50minutes) it is quite unpretictable how video and audio is out of sync in the end.
To experience the problem yourself record a long video sequence with a N95.
1 .Record something where it is easy to see if video and audio is in sync.
    2. Transfer the recording to a PC.
    3. Play the recording using VLC (www.videolan.org)
Another way to experience the problem is to convert the recording to AVI format at play it in MediaPlayer or WindowsMovieMaker. To convert a N95 video recording to AVI format use Mp4Cam2Avi.
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/
The video recording settings I use on my N95 are:
    Best Quality
    No Video Stablisation
    Firmware version 21.0.0.16.
I think the video quality of N95 recordings is quite good, so I would really like to be able to view and edit the recorded vidoes on my PC.

I've seen this issue, but it's not so critical for me. It doesn't happen 100% of the time or in most situations it's very hard to see.
You can edit videos on your PC, just converting them to AVI then using any Video Editor on the PC.
Yes while editing separate the audio channel from the clip and reinsert at the begining of the clip. This will minimise sync issues. To get accurate sync increase the timeline so that you are able to the see audio squiggles as a waveform.

  • Exporting to HD - audio is out of sync

    Hi
(I'm using Elements 4 and Vista.)
I've completed my video and all looks great on preview and in timeline - however, when I export to the HD (whether it's windows media or mpeg etc) the audio is out of sync? It seems to be in slightly different places too...
    (I have rendered etc).
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks
    Z

It's most likely related to your source video. This is especially common with video captured by a program other than Premiere Elements.
What type of video files are you using as your source -- what kind of camcorder did they come from and how did you get them into your computer?

  • After Bad Frames Audio is Out of Sync

One of my HDV video clips has a few bad frames and after that point all the audio is out of sync, but only within Premiere Pro CS4. When I play the clip in Windows Media Player, all the audio remains in sync after the bad frames. I opened the clip in CS3 and the same problem occured. How can I get it to play in sync within Premiere, like it does in Windows Media Player?

I have the same problem with CS5 and some source video I captured off air.  Strangely enough, in one instance I had 2 corrupt frames but the audio survived the problem, but in another case, the audio stream became noise.  Hopefully someone will answer this question on how to fix this in Premiere.  As you point out, media players seem to have no problem dealing with the missing information.

  • DV import - audio is out of sync 3 frames

This never happened to me in FCP, so curious as to why audio is out of sync 3 frames...
Footage is DV/NTSC 48K/16 bit, (footage is not shot w/this camera but) I am importing with my SONY hdr-hc7 (as usuall).
    Thanks

Hi, thank you for your responses...
I know the sync on the actual tape is fine because I also captured into FCP to compare, and the audio was fine there... I also played back directly on a TV from the tape, and it was also okay. I noticed more when I actually exported my edited spot viewed in QT player, and it was out of sync. That is actually where It was most noticible... Then I opened a captured clip directly in QT Pro 7 and it was out of sync. I then imported the clip that I captured via Premier into FCP, and again out of sync...
This has never happened in FCP in my many years of using it... I tihnk it may be a Premier Bug, as I searched and found some similar sounding issues.
Or perhaps some setting was wrong, who knows. I don't know how much longer I will be capturing DV but if there is a fix out here it would be great. And its not a huge issue, but it is rather cumbersome having to re-adjsut each clip by 3 frames.

  • Captured audio is out of sync

I captured a 12 minutes clip using Capture Now in FCE 3.5 from my PAL camcorder Canon MVX4i (=Optura 600).
This is the first time it happens to me: the captured clip has the audio portion out of sync with respect to the video by 5 frames. So, the audio is consistently 5/25 fps = 0.2 seconds late during the whole clip. Unfortunately, this is quite visible when people are speaking.
As a workaround I set the clip in the timeline, unlinked the audio, shifted the video portion forward by 5 frames, marked the clip in sync and relinked (BTW it took me a while to find out that 5 was the right value: lot of tests adding and subtracting a frame at the time, and listening ...)
I doubt the cause is the camera, so my question is: what is the cause of this out of sync ?
    Thanks
    Piero
    Some additional info.
I used the same setup I've been using so far: camera directly connected to the iMac, capture to an external firewire hard drive, use of Capture Now just because it's faster with short movies. Tha movie was shot with 16 bit audio. The shift is the same all along the clip.

    Hi Ian,
I'll check tonight once more, just to be sure. I doubt though, because being aware of the possible impact of the 32KHz, I am usually careful. But I also know that editing after 11 pm is not recommended to me... I might do silly mistakes...
In any case, I'm afraid there is a problem with the tape. Could a damaged tape causes out of sync during capture ?
    Thanks
    Piero

  • Rendered Audio is out-of-sync

I have one clip that is 2 minutes with two graphic tracks above it and the two audio tracks below.
No cuts or transitions just one clip.
When I double click on the "subclip" that I am using, in the browser it plays correctly.
When I render the 2 minute piece the audio is out of sync. I tried changing settings to accomodate the different types of NTSC but no matter what I do I can't seem to figure this out.
