  • Audio isn't being captured

    Hello,
I've got a problem that just recently started. When I try to capture footage the visual is being caught but the audio isn't. When I'm capturing I can hear the audio through the camdcorder, but not through the computer. Then when I disconnect the camcorder after the capture, the clip doesn't play the audio, only the visual. The Audio Tab shows "mono" but only has quiet static.
I've seen other messages that suggest trashing the FCE preferences. I'm a little hesitant to do that before getting more info.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

What's the camera? How is it connected to the
computer? What's the sound you hear on the camcorder
during playback? What channel is the sound recorded
on? Was the recording made with the camera's built-in
    mic or an external mic?
    Tom,
It's a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV315. It's connected through my external hardrive. I've tried different cords. The sound that I hear on playback is a very very quiet hum. I can only hear it when I increase the volume on the audio clip. I'm not sure what channel it was recorded on. How would I find that out? It was recorded through an external mic. As I said, I can hear the sound when I play the video on the camera.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Audio De-Sync during Capture in Final Cut Express

Hi, I use Final Cut Express HD and have recently come across an unusual problem. When capturing footage I find that around five minutes in or so the video freezes for a few moments. After the footage has been captured the audio now goes out of sync at the point the video froze, lasting for the remainder of the clip. I've tried different settings in the easy setup but the problem persists. I only got this new mac recently and the problem happened right after I installed it.
The only changes I have made to the set up was that I moved the folder that all of the footage/renders etc. to another part of the mac, which cFinal cut made me reassign in it's menus. Could this be the cause?
I do a lot of work in Final Cut and this is a large problem for me. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

If you have been altering the Easy Setups a lot you may have corrupted the preferences.
So trash them completely like this
    Misc1 Trash Prefs
Then set the correct Easy Setup.
If you are not sure which to use let us know exactly what video format you are using.

  • My Drobo isn't being seen by Final Cut X

Anyone else have this issue. I've got it hooked up via Firewire, but no luck. Final Cut X sees my other firewire drives, no problem.
This is something of an issue since the Drobo is where I'm archiving everything. Not being able to see the drive from within Final Cut is going to definitely put a damper on things.
If anyone has some ideas let me know.
    Ray

I have two Drobos (the 4 and the 5 bay version) and although they are great devices in what they are doing and how they are doing it there is one major drawback: They are slow as ****. On top of that, if you reach about 85% capacity then they come close to a standstill. I might be exaggerating, but seriously, they are slow. I'm just using them for backup.
If the Drobo rep tells you that the S model is "faster" than the "FS" version, then relativiely speaking he is right - in the same way that a worm crawls faster than a snail.

  • My media is not being recognized by Final Cut! HELP PLEASE!

My media is not being recognized by Final Cut it was there yesterday and today it is not recognized by FCPX
it looks like this now>>> but it is I cans see it in Finder and Quicktime? HELP PLEASE!

That's a compound clip. Not sure what you've done, but that's not a clip icon. Where did this media come from? How did it get into your computer? Is it really HDV? Was it captured using FCP?

  • Issues Capturing with Final Cut Express

    Hi
I am currently having issues capturing with Final Cut Express. I am using a Firewire 800 gold speed cable 9pin/4pin with my Sony LSF-S58 camera. I use mini DV tapes and usually capture on other computers with no problems. However this time I am using Final Cut Express version 4.0.1 along with a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter so it'll connect with my MAC Book Pro (Operating system OS X 10.6.8). The issue is when I open Final Cut's capture option there is a message at the bottom that says "No Communicatin" I have tried various settings within easy set-up and nothing seems to work as well as browsing this help board along with others looking for the answer. Any help anyone can provide would be great. Thanks.

When I Google LSF-S58, I get a Sony Lens Hood, not a camera. Are you recording in HD or SD?
Have you used the Thunderbolt to Firewire convertor successfully on your computer with other devices?
Have you used the Thunderbolt port successfully with other Thunderbolt devices?
I don't know if this is applicable to your computer, but there is a Thunderbolt software update for 10.6.8 here:

  • Can i legally use screen captures of final cut in online tutorials?

    hello,
I want to know if I will be in any trouble for using video screen captures of final cut pro in my online tutorials.

I've done dozens of tutorials...and there are hundreds more that use FCP, as well as other professional apps...no problems.  The software makers don't care if you do this.  Teaching people how to use their software only helps them sell more copies.

  • Can you transfer media captured in Final Cut Studio to a FCP 4.1 project

    Hi
I batch captured some media on my G4 Powerbook with the FC Studio software and I want to add it to a FCP 4.1 project on my G5 dual 1.8 and when I transfer the files from the Powerbook to the G5 and try to import to the 4.1 project, I get a file corrupted message. Does that mean that Final Cut Studio is not backward compatible. If so . . any suggestions on a work around?
    thanks

Just to clarify, you are trying to import the Quicktime movies that you captured using Final Cut Studio or are you trying to open a FCStudio project in FC 4.1?
If it is the former, ensure that you have captured your QT movies correctly (DV, 24P, HD, what format are you capturing). FCP 4.1 should read the captured clips in just fine.
If it is the latter (opening FCStudio projects in 4.1) you can export the project as an XML file and import that XML file into 4.1 and the project is essentially rebuilt. You may/will have to re-render and some transitions might break, but your timeline should be pretty much in tact.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

    Hello, Please Help!
When I bring the mastered audio from Soundtrack pro back to final cut pro 7, the audio plays well at the beginning 3 mins later it doesn't sync.
    Please Help!!!
    Edgil

Make sure your easy setup has the correct frame rate for your sequence.  Seems crazy but somehow or other fcp assigns a frame rate to audio files.   I've found this can sometimes be tricky to get right.  Here's what I've done to force the issue.  Make sure the easy setup frame rate reflects that of the target sequence in fcp.  Create a new project.  import the audio in the new project.  And then copy the clip from the new project to your main project.
    Good luck

  • Cant capture to final cut

i just got final cut. I have experience from skool with final cut and i know to to capture there no problem. i use my camcorder and plug it into the firewire. i trying this at home and it didnt work. i havew no clue what the problem is. this is a new g5 i got so it could be missing something.
if anyone know about how to capture to final cut and knows why it wont capture?

are you beening serious. that is not funny. i did buy an illegal copy.
Yes. You did buy an illegal copy. Contact the seller and demand a full refund. If they refuse, report them to ebay (and/or Paypal), then go out and purchase a legitimate copy of the software.
    this is a new g5 i got
G5s haven't been new for a couple of years now. Maybe you got ripped on that, too.

  • Long HDV and XDCAM clips through Final Cut Server

    Hi,
I know that I could post this in Compressor and/or Quicktime and/or Leopard/Tiger Forums, but as this problem it`s causing my Final Cut Server to not working well, I think it makes sense to post here.
To resume: HDV and XDCAM clips (all on original codec, only xdcam transferred to mov in xdcam transfer) with file size bigger than exactly 4GB always FAILS in "Final Cut Server"/"Compressor alone in ANY machine installed from scratch"/"Anything that uses Quicktime". Source and Destination being localy or networked. DV or DV50 can get bigger than that, I`ve never seen this error with DV`s codecs.
I had seen this problem before I bought final cut server. When I was transcoding our interviews for transcription. We always worked with BETA SP and captured in DV or DV50. We were starting to go to HDV and now to XDCAM and this error has started to appear.
I have a "proxy" made a year ago from a HDV and it`s original has 8GB. I tried this file again and as I expected didn`t work. In ANY computer with any installations with only the latest updates. I`ve remembered that I was using Tiger at this time, and Quicktime/Tiger/ProApps had a old version.
My two cents are that some update from Tiger/Leopard/QuickTime/ProApps made this happen.
So ANY HDV/XDCAM file bigger than 4GB it`s FAILING in ANY system. (Tiger or Leopard, With or without FCP and QT PRO, Installed from scratch and updated every thing).
    Some tests I`ve made:
-Compressor works with this two codecs to lower res in TIGER and with QuickTime Version 7.4.0 and LOWER. (had to be tested, but I think that was my version of QT when I managed to make the proxy of this two codecs).
-Compressor doesn`t work on any system with QT above 7.4.0.
-CATDV (http://www.squarebox.co.uk/) version 6 can make proxy versions of this two codecs in TIGER ONLY! They already know of this problem and CATDV 7 works on both.
-Compressing in compressor with H.264 (same codec as the FCSvr proxy) BUT without changing the resolution, size and etc. Works OK in both Tiger and Leopard.
-Exporting through QT works in ANY system BUT I loose TC, so it`s not an option (and I can`t input this workflow in FCSvr without using compressor).
-Exporting from FCP as QuickTime Movie with H.264 doesn`t work on Both (Tiger and Leopard).
-Exporting fro FCP as QuickTime Conversion with H.264 works but as exporting from QT I loose TC and can`t input this into FCSvr workflow.
Error message are always: "QuickTime error = -50" or "QuickTime error: corrupted data" (and of course it`s not corrupted because it`s used - even in FCP to edit - and opened viewed, catdv can do proxy and everything).
I`m surprised not to see anyone freaking out about this issue... I don`t think that It`s only me.
This is some problems that I came across while trying to find a solution:

As you can see this is not the first time I`ve posted about this issue.
I`m sending a bug report as well.
    Thank You all in advance.

    Hi Chará!
We should, but I think the others will be disappointed eheheheh.
It doesn`t matter what version of Leopard I`m using (right know I`m using Leopard Server 10.5.6, but this issue has happened even with 10.4 if QT is updated and all updates of 10.5 up, as I`
    ve mentioned above).
What file size are those clips that are longer than 10min?
I really don`t get, how it`s possible that just the two of us has HDV and XDCAM files with file size longer than usual? Maybe people that do interviews don`t like to record the entire interview and when capturing those clips would be under this file size limit? Or maybe we are the only ones in the whole world that transcode longer HDV and XDCAM clips (it`s funny that it doesn`t even need to be FCSrv, with only ONE machine and compressor this issue happens all the time).
I`m convinced that I have to install a Tiger version in a virtual machine with compressor and doesn`t update anything to test this further on. But I`m certain that with TIGER and CATDV this works ok! And I think that CATDV uses QT engine to do this transcodes.
This is too much of a mystery to me. Maybe it`s time to spend 24+ hours with apple in a international call and probably not getting anywhere.
I`m only posting this here in FCSrv forum because this issue it`s must worse when you have hundreds of clips with this issue and if you bought the package it doen`t matter if it`s a problem with QT+OSX or whatever, apple has to solve it for FCSrv use.
    Do you reckon?

  • Panasonic HDC-SD100 media card unable to capture on Final Cut Express 4

No problems at all with transfer to i-movie but just purchased final cut express 4 and problems with capturing from the media card. Signal system on camera is 1080/50i. Have tried setting HD and 1080/50i in the easy set up but no joy. Have tried log and transfer and see clips but on transfer message states no data. Can anyone help with the settings please?
    Many thanks in advance

    Welcome to the forum!
There are many things that could cause this, and almost all have been discussed.
    Some things to try:
    • In the Log and Transfer window, click the preferences button (the gear in the upper right). Make sure audio is set to *Plain Stereo*
    • Also in that preferences window, click the button to *Clear the Cache*
Also, what drive are you using to capture to (internal or external)? How is it formatted, and how much space is left on that drive?

  • Capturing into Final Cut Express

I work within Final Cut Express and up until now i was capturing footage via a sony camcorder with a firwire connect.
But i have just recently bought a panasonic gs 500 which comes with a usb cable connection. So i plugged it in, opened Fianl Cut and it doesnt recognise the camcorder being attached? I know the camcorder works with Final Cut, so i wondered if it is because i need a newer version of Fianl Cut to work with usb connection, or that i will need to buy a firewire cable for my camcorder? Any help would be great, want to get capturing footage.

Most camcorders that I've encountered don't come from the factory with a FireWire cable - you have to supply your own. A USB cable is usually included to transfer stills, not video.
Again, FCE captures via FireWire, not USB. Beyond that, USB cannot sustain the throughput required for video. Even though the USB2 spec appears to be faster than FW400, that's simply not the case in real life. The explanation involves the electrical, signalling & protocol characteristics of USB vs. Firewire.
USB cables (esp. the cheap ones packaged with cameras) are much less costly than FireWire cables. We might like the manufacturer to bundle a FW cable with the camcorder, but the manufacturer sees that as an unnecessarily expensive accessory.

  • DVDs through Final CUT PRo

Is it possible to run a DVD and record it into FInal cut pro?
I was thinking if I attach my DV VHS combo to the DVD player and then through the computer it might work.
Also does the VOB file that you get from DVD shrink on a PC import into final cut pro? Is there an equivalent of shrink on the mac?
    thanks
    dan

With a program called Cinematize, you can take any video from an unprotected DVD and save it as many different formats that you can import into FCP. You have a lot of control over the video and audio exporting, and you can choose the clips you want to use.
    http://www.miraizon.com/products/products.html
I have had many clients bring in DVD's of their home movies that they have already had transfered. Because the DVD's are not copyright protected I can pull the desired clip from the DVD and use it as I please. I would recomend looking into this program or something similar as others have suggested. Cinemtize is very simple to use.
