Audio issues. Static  burst when listening to MP3s. ETA on fix.

Hi,
I am using a Line 6 Toneport. It is essentially a USB sound card.
Somewhere between 10.4.9 and updated to the latest, 10.4.11, I now hear static bursts when multitasking.
I assumed this was a driver issue with the Line 6 device so I decided to use the built in audio output and noticed a similar issue. Light multitasking will cause static bursts or droup-outs depending on what I am doing. Even something like checking email or launching word while listening to an MP3. This was never the case before.
Steps I tried.
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled latest Toneport drivers. no difference
2. Formatted and reinstalled Tiger 10.4.9 got all the updates and installed latest drives for the Toneport. Slight improvement
3. Upgraded from 1GB to 4 GB of RAM (I was going to do this anyway) no change
4. Upgraded to solid state harddrive (I was going to do this anyway) no change
5. Formatted then installed Leopard, all the updates, and latest Tone Port drivers. Problem solved.
New Problem. Everything runs like crap on Leopard compared to tiger. Any ETA on a Tiger Update?
PS can somebody please explain the benefit or Leopard? Don't even tell me Time Machine. Seriously, has anybody done any benchmarking on this system compared to Tiger. It is a complete pig and slow as ****.

Hi.
PS can somebody please explain the benefit or Leopard?
No advantage to me. I equate OSX to a TV Remote, but in Leopard you give to somebody else for exclusive use.
I doubt Tiger will get anything but maybe some Security updates.

  • No audio through HDMI cable when listening to audio tracks but ok with vids

    Please Help!!
Ok I hooked up my HP to my Samsung 1080p hdtv through an HDMI cable. My computer displays fine on the TV, the visualizer in ITunes shows just fine, but the audio only comes out of the speakers on my laptop when playing a regular music track. When it plays one of the bonus music videos on the same album, audio and video both play. When I play the songs in any other interface, ie windows media player and HP quick play, audio tracks play fine through HDMI. So this has to be something with ITunes. Anyone know what the problem is?
    Thanks!

Wouldn't you know it, just figured it out. You have to make sure that itunes is not loaded before hooking up the HDMI cable. So,
    turn off itunes,
    hook up the HDMI cable,
(go to sound [control panel] and make sure that HDMI has the checkmark next to it),
    load itunes,
    enjoy.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Audio Issues

We have been testing Premiere CS6 on our first job for the last week. However, we are running into some major audio issues:
    1. When clip is loaded into the source viewer, and you jump to through the cilp, the audio lags behind until you stop and wait a few seconds for the audio to catch up. This is a major hinderance when trying to edit quickly with clients in session. This also happens on the timeline when jumping around. These problems never occured in Avid or FCP running the same media.
    2. With no rhyme or reason, the audio (from source and timeline) sometimes just doesnt play. The meteres will be moving and the video will play, but the audio wont be coming out. Sometimes you hear a noise as if someone was playing with the audio cables. Also, sometimes the meters dont even move, to suggest there is no audio again video is playing, when infact there is.
These problems have occured accros multiple machines, with media running from both our server, and local hard drives. Our facility runs a NAS that pushes 110/MB/s over ethernet from a 16TB RAID6 (that is SAS connected to the server). One machine is running OSX 10.8, with Black Magic Intensity Pro, 20GB Ram, NVidia Quadro 4000. Another is running OSX 10.8, with AJA IO Express, 16GB Ram, NVidia 4000. and the last is running 10.6.8 with Black Magic Intesnsity Pro, 12GB ram, and NVidia GTX something or other (unsupported card).
Has anyone else gotten these issues? Like i said, i have tested the media from the server and from the local hard drives. We are pushing Apple Pro Res HQ, have also tested Pro Res LT, Pro Res 444 and Canon H.264.

For me it wasn't a RAM issue, I had more than enough to process the audio I had in my project.  This quote from a Creative Cow post worked for me.
"Try deleting your .cfa files for the media in question, and then don't mess with the project until they are done re-conforming."
    Here's the original post:
    http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/926011
I don't know how to figure out which .cfa files are associated to specific media files, so I just went to where they were cached and deleted all of them.  Open your project again and you'll see a little yellow bar in the lower left-hand corner of the Timeline window showing  that it's re-conforming your media.  Don't even think of touching the computer while it's doing this... I was so paranoid that I didn't do anything else (check e-mail, open a web browser, work on a Word doc, etc.) until Premiere was totally finished.  After that my audio played fine for the rest of the project.
One thing that's tricky and took me a while to figure out is that if you're using multiple drives, you have to be careful to make sure you're getting ALL of the .cfa files.  If you've set the project to cache your files on a external drive, and then open a  project on a different drive without having that external connected, Premiere will set the cache folder to its default location (usually on your host computer's main hard drive).  I didn't realize this, and had the audio drop-out issue, so I deleted the .cfa files but the drop-out didn't go away.  I found out that Premiere had reset my media cache folder, and had cached the corrupted .cfa files on my main hard drive.  Once I deleted them there and let the computer re-conform, the  audio played well again.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

  • Outgoing call audio issue

I bought an iPhone 4s in India two days back. I am facing a strange problem when I make audio calls. Very often (not all the time) I do not hear any audio after making an outgoing call though the call go thru' and timer starts clicking. When I checked with the people whom I called, they said that they got the call but did not hear anything at their end. The workaround that I figured out is to press SPEAKER button twice (activate and deactivate) when I encouter this problem. It seems to be working as of now. Not sure if this is a hardware problem or a software problem or if I am missing anything with settings. Can someone help me?
    Thanks !!!

    Hi raj1434,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are not hearing callers, or being heard on calls, use these steps to guide your troubleshooting:
    iPhone: Microphone issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5183
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (see the pictures below to locate the microphones on your device)
Make sure none of the microphones is obstructed by dirt or debris.
Turn the iPhone off and then on.
Make sure that the latest version of iOS is installed.
iPhone: Receiver and call audio quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5196
Increase the volume during the call.
Make sure nothing is blocking the receiver. If you're using a protective case or display film, remove it and try again.
Make sure nothing is plugged into the headphone jack or the dock connector.
Check the receiver opening to see if it is clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush.
Try another location with better signal. If the audio issue happens only when on a call, it could be due to the location.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or a car kit, try turning off Bluetooth on your device. Learn more about troubleshooting Bluetooth connections.
If none of the steps above correct the behavior, back up your iPhone and restore the iOS software to factory settings:

  • Static in Audigy 2 when Multi-Tasking (MP3 examp

This is not cool at all. I just paid big money for this sound card, and it has a severe problem that none of my onboard sound chips have ever had.
Just got this Audigy 2 ZS card. Everything is great really. But when I run any kind of cpu intensi've app in the background while listening to music, I get severe static. Here is an mp3 recording of the static:
    http://studentpages.scad.edu/~cblair2/steve/Audigy2ZSStaticProblem.mp3
You will notice the static goes away, halfway into the mp3. This is because I shut down the CPU intensi've application I was running. More then app causes this issue. I have also experienced the issue in Unreal Tournament 2004, so it is not an issue restricted to streaming music. EAX gaming is affected by it as well.
I'd like to note that it does this both with and without all the extra software installed, that came with the retail cd. Also I have updated my drivers using, both the EAX4.0 update, and the newest stable driver update, as instructed on the Creative site.
    Here is my specs:
    Antec Super Lanboy case
Thermaltake Silent PurePower TT-420AD (Dual Fan) ATX 420W PSU
    Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 (Rev 2.x)

A few of them dont apply to me because my BIOS doesnt have those options.Message Edited by FunkyPoopMonkey on 08-05-2005 04:42 AM

I'd also like to note that in Winamp, the first 2 seconds of every song has static. This is most likely because Winamp is streaming to the pre-buffer during this time. I'm sure of this, because if I hit stop, and play to restart the track, it does not have static in the first 2 seconds, because it is still in the buffer from the first playback.
    Here's my IRQ's:
    http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/399/untitledcopy4ya.gif
Hope they are all ok. And is it really wise to disable ACPI and then reinstall Windows, like Creative says? Google seems to indicate that this is an important feature to have.
Update: I put my Audigy on the very bottom PCI slot, which was one step down. I also totally uninstalled it, as well as my entire nForce chipset drivers. Then I booted into safe mode, and used Driver Cleaner to totally remove whatever little leftovers remained from these 2 components. Then I did a fresh minimal install of my chipset drivers, and a fresh minimal driver-only install of the Audigy. I have NOT updated the drivers yet.
And guess what? No static so far. I'll really been attacking the CPU and HDDs with work, while playing music. Not a hiccup so far. The weird thing is, now my Audigy is SHARING an IRQ with my S-ATARAID Controller, and yet, no problems. On the other PCI slot, it had an IRQ all to itself. Very strange how this made things better...Message Edited by FunkyPoopMonkey on 08-05-2005 0:32 AM

  • IMovie audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!

    Hi there
Audio plays when the object with the audio assigned appears. This is why you hear it when the Button appears.
Try assigning the audio instead to the object that appears when you click the button. Perhaps the caption.

  • IPhone 5 audio issues when paired with surround sound via Bluetooth.

iPhone 5 has developed audio issues since ios7 updates when its connected to surround sound system via Bluetooth. Audio jumps and skips in erratic and unpredictable manner on music app and worse on third party apps such as YouTube  . Have restored phone from factory settings etc. Have also checked surround sound for fault with Bluetooth; iPhone 4 ios7 works fine, android works fine but newest iPod touch with ios7 appears to have developed same issue as iPhone 5 since ios7 updates. Advise people to check for this issue on their Bluetooth devices and any advice would be appreciated on this issue  :)

    Hey there Vxas,
It sounds like you are gettings some very unexpected behaviour from the iPhone to your bluetooth surround sound system. I would try the troubleshooting recommended in this article:
iOS: How to troubleshoot Bluetooth connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4562
Check that you are in range of the Bluetooth device with which you are trying to pair your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Most Bluetooth devices have a range of approximately 30 feet.
On your iOS device, tap Settings > Bluetooth and find your device in the list. If your device says Not Connected, tap the name of your device to attempt to connect it.
Tap Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off and then on again.
Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is turned on and fully charged or connected to power.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Bluetooth and locate the Bluetooth accessory you are currently connected to or attempting to connect to. Then tap and Forget this Device. Try to pair your Bluetooth accessory again.
Note: You may need to re-enter your Bluetooth accessory PIN if your accessory requires one. Some common PINs are 0000, 1111, and 1234.
Restart your Bluetooth accessory by turning it off and then on again1.
Update your device to the latest version of software. See how to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
If your Bluetooth accessory has upgradeable firmware, check to see that you have the latest version1, 2.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
