Audio jack showing red light indicator

audio jack was showing red light when i was installing windows first time via boot camp ... !

Try System Preferences>Flash>Advanced tab>Delete All...
My wife's 2011 mbp had the same problem:
no sound from speakers,
sound okay in headphones,
red light on in jack,
slow computer.
She plays MANY different FLASH online games in Firefox. I searched everywhere and found the same advice as you all did ref toothpick in headphone jack, etc. Nothing worked.
Today, I googled "firefox" "problem" and "sound". I found "Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems". I stopped reading at this point and decided to check out the status of her Flash settings. I opened System Preferences > Flash and explored the different tabs and options on  my mbp compared to hers and noticed a LOT more "websites" in her Storage and Camera & Mic tabs. I went to her Advanced tab and selected Delete All... . It took over a minute to clear all her "websites". I did a reboot and was shocked, surprised, relieved that her mbp speakers were spewing sounds again! Problem solved! Her computer is now faster as well.
Short story:
System Preferences>Flash>Advanced tab>Delete All...
Hope it works for you, too.

  • Audio muted/disabled- red light coming out of jack????

what the heck? anyone know what's going on here? red light in my headphone jack and volume control non-operational. reset the PRAM to get speakers working for a moment before problem returned. works fine when headphones in, but not without.
and the red light shining out... what IS that?

    Hey all-
I've worked on laptops before and didn't feel comfortable sticking a metal clip into it. I did snap the end off a Q-tip and wiggled the cardboard ever so gingerly and it went off. BUT later in the week the same problem occurred. I've got an appointment with Apple tomorrow and will keep you up to date on the "official word" with this problem. I'm still in the year warranty period (refurbished pruchased, year up in November) so they should replace anything that is failing this soon in the game.
Have a co-worker that just had a new MBP's video fail after less than a month of use---Apple replaced the whole machine, but only because it was in the first 30 days of purchase. Doubt they'll make me the same kind of offer. Still sorta miffed to have problems with my newest machine. Never had to get AppleCare, but think I'll have to with this guy... hope it's not IceBook Logic board blues for these first Intel offerings.

  • Headphone jack has red light

The output (headphone) jack on my MacBook has a red light in it and I can't produce any sound from my built in speakers. Also, I cannot control the volume level; it shows the volume maxed out, but all the slider controls are greyed out and, using the volume buttons, shows a crossed out circle instead of the speaker icon. If I have headphones or speakers hooked up everything works fine, but if not then I can't use sound. Any ideas?

There is a micro switch that can get stuck....use your headphone plug and try plugging and unplugging it several times.....there have been numerous threads about the problem...you might also try using 'Search Discussions'...enter 'Red Light'
    and Welcome to Apple Discussions

  • Headphone jack displaying red light

The headphone jack on my macbook is displaying a red light, and the built in speakers will not play. However, whenever I plug in speakers, the sound works. What is going on? Is something jammed, or can this be fixed with the push of a button?

It means your digital audio out has switched on. You can insert a plastic toothpick in the hole and try and switch it off. The switch should be at the 3 o'clock position and go towards the 6 o'clock position. Some people also have had luck inserting their headphone jack and pulling out a few times. Another recent report was that inserting the headphone jack and turning it in the hole helped.
If your not successful or uncomfortable doing this you need to contact Apple about service.

  • RV042 wan2 shows red light on internet connection

I set up my RV042 with two ISPs, one charter internet and the other AT&T
DSL.  My DSL modem all of a sudden shows a red light over the "internet" slot
showing that it's not working.  When I remove the modem and hook up to a PC, it works fine.  When I put back into WAN2 slot, the red light comes back on.  I have it set up to find IP connection automatically.  It has been working for  a day or so, but now this crops up. I check with ATT support and they verfiy the modem is okay and getting a signal when I connect to PC.

AFter I posted the problem, my DSL modem just started its normal green light and never (almost never) went red again.  The big problem is that when my cable modem went down for repair to cable, my Internet went down also.  I wanted the dual wan router to make sure that when I was online that if one ISP went down I would have an automatic back up.  I also wanted bonding or binding where with two ISP's I would get a combination of speeds to one large speed, but obviously the RV042 does not bond to an aggregate speed.  I saw in your reply that you mentioned PPPoE setup.  My DSL is set up along with the cable modem to "automatically obtain the IP address."  Is this the wrong setup?

  • Ipod touch 5th generation under warranty, audio jack showing problems while listening to music. visited the apple service center and they are refusing to replace the model because of minor dents on the sides which aren't even visible. what should i do?

The dents are extremely minor since my ipod had had a light fall. Is it possible to get the replacement. The service center have refused to replace the model, and they have also terminated the product care without even my permission. Need help with this matter. Have had 3 ipod touch before this one. All with the same audiojack problem. Highly dissatisffied with the product quality and durabilty.

Agreed, but the dents are extremely minor, its not like the entire case is cracked and its coming off, or the screens broken. It's just a slight chip. And ispite it being so minor they have declined the replacement.

  • P6N SLI Platinum - Model 7350 - CPU Compatibility and 4 Red Lights

The CPU compatibility list shows that the Intel E6400 is "under testing". I have been running the subject motherboard with an E6400 for 2 months before a system failure.
The system would not post and the D-Bracket connector showed 4 red lights indicating processor damage or not installed properly. The processor was removed and reseated. Still no post. The processor was removed and replaced with a new E6400. Still 4 red lights. the power supply tested ok. All components were removed and reinstalled one at a time. Still 4 red lights. The mother board was removed from the case and tested outside the case with no components. Still 4 red lights.
Although Intel replaced the processor (as indicated above) one technician stated that the motherboard is "under testing" and he was concerned about long term compatibility.
My last recourse is to replace the 7350 motherboard but I want to be sure it is compatible with the E6400.
Any help or advice regarding the compatibility issue or the 4 red light failure issue is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Tried resetting CMOS several times (pushed button). Power Supply disconnected. Removed battery. Replaced battery. Motherboard out of case. only thing installed is video card. Still 4 red lights.
Should also tell you that memory was removed from 2 slots and put back into 1 slot. No change.
Is this motherboard compatible with the E6400?

Lets start with you helping us by identifying your notebook completely.
HP has produced and brought to market more than a thousand different models of notebooks and desktop PCs over the years. It is difficult to help you if we don't know which specific model you own..
Method #1: If the notebook will boot into Windows, you can retrieve your Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key.
    Method #2:
Remove the battery and look in the compartment where the battery was installed. You should see a Service tag with printed part number and a product name. Please post the p/n (with all alphanumeric characters) here. If you live outside of North America, it helps us if you post the country of purchase. Also post the installed CPU type. (AMD or Intel)
Don't forget to post the name of the installed operating system if you haven't already done that.
If Windows 8 is installed, you can invoke the search charm and  type in the word audio and then on the right hand side of the screen click on Settings. On the left hand side of the screen, you should see an option to select Find and fix audio playback problems.  Try it to see if it resolves the issue for you.

  • Red light after connecting usb cable each time

My ipod shuffle (4th gen) is weird and would not start. I know it's because someday I plugged out the usb cable right after I perform the sync task and forget to press the reject button first.
Now the symtons is: It won't start / recharge, and it even doesn't show any light. Each time I connect it to the PC or AC adaptor, it will show RED light in about 5 seconds, and after few seconds there will be no light and it just dies.
How can I fixed my poor faily new shuffle?

    Hey exkaede,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I'd go ahead and try restoring your iPod shuffle to factory settings, so the software will be restored to its original factory condition with updates:

  • My g5 having issues, red light coming on behind power button

an overview, i tried to install an airport adapter and some ram and went to turn it on, and it runs, i think it even chimmed but the monitor isnt registering the grey screen, but it is registering that it is connected as it isnt the video card or at least i dont think it is.
I did buy an agp nvidia 6200 card as well and swapped it in to try, and no go, swapped the old one back and still nothing.
what is the red light indicating?
it has 10.3 on it, dont have the disc since i opted for the computer on ebay

From what I've picked up it seems the larger sticks of RAM should be placed in the inner slots, going outward. I'd try reseating the RAM making sure you hear that little snap of them seating then try starting up again. If it still balks, shut down and reset your PMU and see if that forces your mac to recognize the RAM. Of course there might be a bad stick in there and that's what's throwing it off. Good luck. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1436

    Hello @rana-minhas,
I understand that after replacing your power supply on your HP Compaq dc7800 Small Form Factor PC it will not power up properly and shows  a green light for 5 seconds before restarting. I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure, I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums, since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Business PCs - Compaq, Elite, Pro.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • WebCam Go Plus: red light doesn't stop flashing

    Hello,
I am experiencing following problem when trying to use the WebCam Go Plus as a digital camera: I take a picture, and the red light indicating that the picture is being written to memory ("busy") doesn't stop flashing. Trying to turn off the camera deosn't work either, and the only way to stop everything is by removing the batteries and starting over again. No picture is written, though. Previous images have been downloaded, so it is not an "disk full" issue.
Any ideas will be highly appreciated (specially by my little daughter, who is trying to take the camera on a trip).
    Thank you!

    strawinsky,
You can try doing a hardware reset and see if it helps.
