Audio layer questions

I recorded some 720P video with an HVX 200 using a mic connected directly to the camera. I just ingested the video.
There is an audio wave form visible in the top layer, not in the second layer, a waveform in the third layer and not in the forth layer.
1.) Why did it record to the tracks this way? Why did it record tracks with no audio?
2.) The audio is spoken word and it will be uploaded to the web so I really only need one channel of it to save file size. Does it matter which of the channels with the wave length that I keep?
Thanks!!!

Stan:
Not all that familiar with the HVX; however, in answer to your Q...
The camera probably had an option set to record to 2 of four possible audio channels. In any event, unlink the connected stereo tracks and delete the tracks you don't want. <Option-L>
Obviously, keep one with the waveform! Hope that helps...
Blessings,
Craig

  • Can't access a stereo audio layer

Hey.  I opened a Premiere Pro project I'd been working on a few weeks ago.  The project has one video track and several audio tracks, one of which (track 1) in in stereo.
All of the audio tracks play when I run the project, but I can't access the first audio track with most of of the editing tools (like the razor tool, rolling edit, ripple edit).  Further the right click menu does not work for any clips on this audio layer.  All the tools and right click menu work fine for rest of my audio layers.
Doesn't seem to matter if Sycnh is on or off; layer is unlocked.  Any idea why I can't get full access to this stereo audio layer and how to fix?

Can you post a screen-cap of your Timeline, showing that Audio Track in detail?
    Might be something there.
    Good luck,

  • MTS Audio Layer Issue

Hey guys,  im not an expert with shooting video and understanding the different codecs/presets and such but I am using a smaller Canon Vixia HF-G10 and dragged my files from my local disk to the media browser in Premiere.. If you look at the timeline below you will see that every Video "layer" has an accompanying audio layer.  I recently opened this same project and tried dragging the same existing files from the media browser to the timeline and I now do not get anything in the audio layer.  The audio still plays but I cannot make changes to the audio at all.  If you look at the last 2 items below they are the same file "00030.MTS".  The first one shows content in the audio layer and the second does not.
Is there a setting that may have been changed on my part?

Click the A1 on the left until it turns light gray like V1.

  • Haw to maintain adio layer linked to an effect property after replacing the audio layer?

    Hy,
i have an effect applied to a layer and a certain property of that effect (turbulent displace) is controlled by the "both channels" af my audio layer / audio amplitude generated layer.
What i need is to make somehow possible for the client to add his own audio layer and in the same time not disturbing the link between the effect property & my audio later.
I cannot use an audio so that he can simply replace mine...i need a way to give him the possibility to add his own audio file, generate his own "audio amplitude" by converting keyframes and still maintain the link I created between my original audio layer and the effect property.
I hope i was clear enough and someone can help me...
    Thanx!

    Thank you for the reply!
I never put the curly brackets when there is only one number since it saves some typing. I tried this time, but it made no difference. Also tried writing 1 instead of "true", still the same problem. I also tried this expression:
    temp = -40 + 40* comp("Main Comp").layer("SOUND CONTROLS").effect("Appearance Sounds")("Checkbox");
    [temp, temp]
The same problem persists. The preview sounds wrong, the render sounds right.

  • Where to find MPEG-1 Audio Layer II Codec?

I have a Samsung Digimax V700 digital camera which can create movies saved as .AVI and when the file is played through QuickTime I can see pictures but I can't hear and audio. QuickTime's Movie Properties report the video track as Generic MPEG-4 and the audio as '.mp2' (including quotes).
Subsequent research has stopped me confusing the .mp2 with the MPEG-2 video format, I found that it's MPEG-1 Audio Layer II audio, but I cannot find a suitable codec for it.
I do have other solutions: use another player such as VLC, which plays the video just fine (except that I'd like to be able to play videos through Front Row), or convert the movie's soundtrack to mp3 or similar (except I'd like to keep the video's modification date and time the same, so they appear in the correct place when sorting by date.
When I first load up the movie, QuickTime reports that some required components are missing and offers me a web page of suppliers who don't make the MPEG-1 Audio Layer II codec (as far as I can see). So, does anybody know where I can get a suitable audio codec?

Anyway, I did at least RTFM before I posted here and installed the codec (and I searched the forum before posting, too!).On my system (old PPC G5), the "3ivX D4 4.5.1 for OSX" (which I see you have) and the "XVIDDelegate" (which I don't see) caused a conflict between AVI oriented media and which component would assume playback control. Since you have at least 5 or 6 components that have, at least some, AVI playback capability, would suggest you run a conflict test at this point.
I thought DivX was a video codec only?It is basically a proprietary update of AVI put out by DivX. Their proprietary compression format(s) now have the .divx extension, but the software still handles media contained in the older AVI container.

  • Audio layer causes "NOT realtime" on RAM Preview

Hi I am using a new machine I built mostly for AE and music video production.
    Mac Pro 2008 - 2.8ghz 8-core
    8GB RAM
    AE CS3 + Nucleo Pro 2.0
    Areca 1261ML
I have spent some time tuning the Nucleo & AE parameters to work most effeciently and I'm happy with the performance execpt for this issue.
What I am noticing is I get 29.97 fps playback with the RAM preview and NO audio, but as soon as I check the audio layer my fps drops to 22 fps and the audio only plays for only half of the preview. Most importantly the audio gets out of sync... It is frustratingly difficult to align video and audio like I've grown use to in AE7 & 6.5
Perhaps I'm missing a preference somewhere?
My comp is 29.97 fps 640x480. My project settings are set to 44.100 khz.
    My footage is partially
    60fps 640x480, 48K audio (audio unchecked)
    30fps HD 720p , 48K audio (audio unchecked)
& mostly stop-motion jpg sequences taken from a 2MP camera.
    1 song - 44.1khz wav
All my previous projects behave similarly.
All of this plays fine with no audio. However, even 29.97 SD alone still causes "NOT realtime" playback as soon as I check the audio on. This happens no matter if it is full-res or 1/4.
    I have tried:
making sure all audio is set to 44.100Khz and also tried 48,000khz (with 48k audio)
changing the buffer size on the audio preference
    swapping out the 44.100 wav with 44.100 mp3 or a 48,000 wav
Also tried switching to an external USB audio device in the audio hardware preferences - no change
still plays back in the 22fps range...
I don't remember having this issue on my XP64 quad core machine w/AE 7.0 OR with my old dual cpu XP box running AE 6.5.
As this Mac Pro is supposed to be for music video production. This is really an important issue to me and is making my work very difficult and tedious -- or I have to just render it out like in the ole slow computer days...
*EDIT* It does play 15 fps realtime -- if I tell it to skip 1 frame (just double checked - thought it played sluggishly too) But this is kinda upsetting... It should resolve my timing issues for now.

no effects on the audio -- it's just straight wav 44.100Khz.
Preferences > Audio Hardware > Built in line output
Preferences > Audio Output Mapping > Built in line output
System Preferences > Sound > Output > Built in line output
All of these settings in any configuration produce the exact same result. Presently set to "built in line output", I have also tried using the USB output and the ones labled "built in line input/built in line output" -- no success, even if all the settings are set to the same line or pointed to different audio hardware. Buffer size also has no effect.
    I'm really stumped.
Also, my audio library is on a HDD by itself. I tried hard to set up the machine to not have issues like this...
I'd like to get a MOTU Ultralight for audio recording one day, but I don't think this is a $500 issue now. Plus, I doubt it will make a difference.
I mean 15fps works, but I miss stuff when I'm viewing stop-motion footage. I feel like I wasted a lot of money on hardware and CS3.

  • How to link audio layer of audio spectrum?

I have a couple of audio spectrums and I was wandering if I could link the audio layers of all the audio spectrums so I didn't have to manually choose each audio layer when it's the same. Thanks!

Nope. Since that particular control doesn't have a stopwatch, it can't be linked with expressions. Still, nothing stops you from having audio in a pre-comp, referencing that pre-comp in the effects and swapping the audio in the pre-comp when needed...

  • Set Text of Layer Question

    A Very Easy Question.
I attempt to "set text of layer." I click on the plus sign on
the behaviors window, and set text to layer. A cute little box pops
up. In the Layer drop down box is a host of "unnamed
<span>"s. None of my divs are listed. In the body of this
page are Plenty of ID'd divs. I have named layers out the wazoo.
Why Are My Named Layers Not Listed In the Layer Drop Down
    Box?

    it appears.
It would depend entirely on your level of HTML expertise.
One way to solve the problem would be to use an IFrame to
    contain the
external content on the page, but a frame is a frame is a
    frame. By that I
mean that IFrames usually provide all the user problems that
    frames do.

Linking from one page to another is how static HTML pages
    work. Having a
single page to display multiple content elements as loaded
    from a database
requires that the page return to the server to fetch new
    content from the
database on each click. Either method requires a page
    refresh.
Linking to content that is placed within an IFrame doesn't
    require this page
refresh, but carries other disadvantages as mentioned above.
    Does that help at all?

  • G4 DVD Dual Layer question

I have a 14" G4 1.07GHz iBook with a Non DVD Burning CD/CDR/CDRW/DVD drive. My question is, will it READ a dual layer DVD? Thanks!

Hhmmm...let me know if it works for you. I have (I think) the exact same setup, and my drive spits out dual discs. We bought Bruce Springsteen's The Seeger Sessions, which is a dual disc, and I had to resort to alternate methods to import the songs into my iTunes library. I Googled after having the problem and found others who had the same problem.

  • Ridiculously simple audio editing question for Garage Band

Ok, so this is really a fundamental
    question. It concerns editing technique.
In analog mixing, the editor put
the sounds to be saved in the right
places on each of several tracks --
    narration, sound effects, lip sync,
music, etc. The tracks were then
all locked together and the mixer
adjusted the volumes to either save
    or reject audio information.
A blank master received the information
and that was your final product,
in sync, sprocket by sprocket, with
    the video.
My question, then, is, how do you
do it in digital multitrack such as
Garage Band? Are you aiming to have
4 or 5 tracks all level controlled
or do you simple erase unwanted
sound, or what exactly do you do,
in post production? If you are going
to do a voice over, then you have to
do a mix at some point, not just a
cut and paste. What's the philosophy,
if you don't mind my asking?
    Thanks,
    Ed

Wow... you gave me flashbacks to a movie soundtrack I scored, with separate reels of tape all synced up and whirling away for final mixdown!
To answer your question as best I can in a paragraph or two, digital mixing is unlimited compared to analog. Whereas tape has a physical limit, you can always add another digital track (there are limitations to digital, but they are becoming harder to reach as systems become increasingly powerful). So no need to erase. Editing is also a breeze. Digital tracks are endlessly malleable, with virtually every parameter available for automation.
Sometimes you might mix down to stems or mix everything down to a stereo master (or alternative mixes) for post production. Similarly, in post, they can deal with huge numbers of digital tracks from different sources.
In terms of a professional workflow, Logic is the more typical choice over Garageband, and includes a number of features designed for scoring to picture: variable sample rates, frame rates, etc.
Gain staging in digital recording is different than in analog, and it requires a different approach to achieve excellent sounding results. But the digital workflow is so much more flexible, forgiving, and economical, that it has been the death-knell for the analog workflow. Infinite bussing, routing, mixing, comping, storing, stemming... infinite possibilities, really!

  • Audio out question?

I just got in my G5 DP 2.7 and this thing is sweet. Now with that said, on to the question. I have a pair of Yorkville Studio monitors that I want to connect to my G5. The Yorkvilles have XLR inputs on them and they are Bi-amped. I do not want to go 1/8" mini to XLR for sound quality reasons. Do you guys know of another way that I can do this, possibly using the optical out to a coverter?? or a new sound card that has RCA's. Then I could go XLR from the d/a box or rca to XLR with a sound card. I was looking at some M-Audio pieces, just a little unsure. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again in advance for your time.
    PowerMac DP 2.7   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   17" PowerBook 1 Ghz, 1GB, 60GB HD, SuperDrive

M-Audio's Audiophile 2496 in their Delta line is really good. Has RCA in and out, as well SDIF. Great specs, works on MAC and PC, and is only 100 bucks.

  • Importing m2ts files but having problems with the audio layer

Hi all, I'm new to the whole video editing side of things and so would appreciate some help.
I've just bought myself a Canon HF200 HD camcorder, and a Sony Vaio notebook which came with Premiere Elements 7.0 pre-installed.
For the last month I've been shooting footage, and just getting down to trying to edit everything and put a DVD together.
The problem I have at the moment (and I've just started using the program, so everything is new to me) is that while I seem to be able to import the m2ts file format that my Canon records, only the video is imported into Premiere - not the audio.
I can play all my videos in Windows Media Player just fine, with both video and audio.  So it seems my machine is able to read the files correctly in this program.  However, the audio seems to drop out when I import the file into Premiere.  The program was pre-installed in my machine, and when I go in to have a look at the audio settings, there doesn't seem to be an ability to change the settings to something different.
So far I've spent a long time googling and trying to find a solution, but with no joy just yet.
Appreciate any assistance the anyone can offer.
    Thanks.
    Jeff

    Hi there
I think I sorted it. If you look at the Premiere Pro forum, on the right is a box with a link to "Forum Best Practices".
Click the image below for larger view.
Being a good first time poster, you read that. But the problem is, it places you inside the Forum Comments forum. So when you choose to Create a Discussion, you aren't creating the discussion in the Premiere Pro forum. Instead, you are creating it in the Forum Comments forum.
Looks like perhaps a forum mod needs to work on this and create a duplicate thread in the forums in question.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Audio markers questions

I have a clip that I really want the footage to be exact with the audio. I put audio markers on the audio downbeats. However, is there a way when I drag the video for it to line up with the audio? I hope my explanation is clear.
    Thanks!

  • Audio Programming Questions...

    Hi everyone,
I am very new with audio programming with Java and I have a couple of questions...
    (1) How can I specify a Line from which I can capture audio signal. I want to capture signal from a MICROPHONE and then process the signal (with a FFT function). I tried to use Port (instead of DataLine) and I managed to get the specific port (Port.MICROPHONE) but it seems that port has no function to read from the line. Therefore I assumed that the only way to capture and process audio signal is through DataLine. However I cannot specify the line. How can I do that???
    (2) Is it possible to capture and process audio signal through Port??? I mean can I read bytes from a audio stream and write it to a TargetDataLine???

    Hello!
There is a Java Sound mailing list. You would get more response from those subscribers. You can join it from here: http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/sound/list.html
    Hope that is helpful.

  • Hey so I have a layer question

Okay so I want to add a background from one of the generators in the library and I want to add text on top of it. okay heres my question: How do I make it so that everything on that flat layer will stay there? For example when I go into 3D Mode with the active camera I want to be able to move that multilayered file as one? ME ENTIENDES??? I hope so one knows i dont think this is that complex.

    hi,
if there is distance between your text and background, maybe their 'z' space parameter is different?
to flatten a layer you can select group that all the layers are in, and head over to the inspector, click on the tab called group and check the flatten checkbox.
