Audio levels do not keep their settings

when working in iMovie '11 (on MacBook Pro 2.66 GhZ Intel Core i7), whenever I detach audio from video (for photo or still insertion) and adjust the volume and background noise settings, the settings to not remain when adding new video clips. This is most frustrating asn the audio quality was relatively poor when shot, but is easily leveld and "fixed" using the background noise removal and filtering in the audio setting.
I've noticed that other folks have had similar issues, but hav enot yet found a workable solution. Help, please.

You cannot even apply an effect to an entire track in Premiere.
Actually you can, via the Mixer.  It would not surprise me at all if you had one there.

  • Audio level is not the same

    hi guys
my problem is that i have a 1h project with various materiales....some of them have high audio volume and some low
is there a way to make them all almost the same level (higest audio peak shouldnt pass the -6db threshold) without the need to do this manually?
    i have cs4 version
    thank you all in advance

I am not a fan of the Normalize Audio Effect, but that might be helpful. Personally, I use the Audio Mixer, and add Track Keyframes, while I ride Gain. This is best done, after one has edited everything else, as these ARE Track Keyframes, and if one changes the Clips about, the Keyframes will still be in effect.
    Good luck,

  • CS3 Audio mixer automation not keeping changes

I'm using CS3 on a Mac.  My current project marks the first time I've done any editing in almost thirty years.  When I opened CS3 for the very first time and did a few trial edits, I was able to adjust audio on the three tracks as I played it back and the changes were saved.  Now that I've finished my 21 minute project, I can't get the audio changes to hold.  I've followed the isntruction in the help file and that I found online, but no matter what automation settings I use, the changes are gone when I play it back.  THere were changes noted in the keyframe timeline for the first couple of minutes, but nothing after; now I've even managed to loose those changes.  Any ideas??

    Hi Tahseen,
Thanks for your help with this problem.
I have been using PE since version 5 - a long time!.  I have used  Audio
Mixer for all those years but I have never had this problem before.
My video clips are AVCHD video.   My stills are JPG and the  soundtrack
    music is MP3.
I have a slideshow which is a mixture of stills, video and  soundtrack.
During "Expert" editing there is speech on Video 1 so I try to  lower the
music soundtrack so that the talking can be heard.    Something that I have been
doing for years.  Using Audio Mixer, I lower the  volume to -18 by sliding
down the volume slider.  The soundtrack volume is  reduced.  I then replay
the clip and the sound reduction I have just  carried out has been ignored
and the soundtrack reverts back to 0 as if  nothing had been changed.
    Can you help me please.
    Regards,
    John

  • When using Mac mail, pictures received do not keep their original dates. Why?

Using the native mail application  (version 6.6) inside of OS X (version 10.8.5),  the dates from the photographs (sent by others) are being removed. To summarize of the picture was taken in November 2010 and sent via email, then saved from the mail application, the date appears to be January 2015.

There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
If iPhoto is not showing you the correct date, make sure the sender is including the Exif metadata when they send the photo.

  • Podcasts not keeping their saved points when paused

Since the podcast app was updated yesterday (31 may) it no longer holds a save point, ie if I pause the podcast after a couple of seconds it jumps back to the start.  Podcasts also now do not pause during a phone call, it just lowers the volume. Is there anyone else with the same problem and did you find a work arround.
I have seen a lot of bad reviews for this app and in all honisty I did not have any problems with it until yesterday with the update 2.1.2.

I haven't updated to 2.1.2. I looked at the reviews of the update on the iTunes App Store and there were so many people having problems, I'm probably skipping this one.
If I was in your position, I would find a copy of 2.1.1 in my backups and downgrade.

  • Bridge does not keep LR settings?

If I am understanding this correctly, Bridge is not able to read LR adjustments? Thats kind of annoying.

LR is one way, or there may be times when you would loose fresh edits in LR to an indavertant XMP read. LR would be fighting itself.
Think about it. The only time LR seems to read XMP auto is on initial import, if the is XMP to read on import.

  • Premiere CS4 & AME 4.1 MP4 container does not keep bitrate settings

I am having a hard time trying to export my video to H.264 MP4 container using CBR 436kbit for video and 64kbit for audio.
AME is always resetting the bitrate to 3mbps. I have tried all the workarounds on this forum and they don't work.
I am running fully updated Premiere CS4 and AME on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
PLEASE SOMEONE POST A WORKING SOLUTION TO THIS ANNOYING PROBLEM.
    Thanks a million.

I have found a working solution.
    Thanks to Jeff:
It's a bug.  Switch to VBR temporarily, then set your target bit rate.  When you switch back to CBR it should stick.

  • But I did not keep the audio message from my friend...

I'm running iOS 8.0.2 on an iPhone 5. I'm loving the audio message feature but I see that my friends are keeping my audio messages or they're saying that I'm keeping theirs. My friends also using iOS 8 confirm that they're definitely not intentionally keeping mine, and I am definitely not keeping theirs. Yes, I have made the appropriate setting configuration for audio messages to expire after 2 minutes.
Anyone know why this is happening? Is it a bug?

yes.  You do not need a receipt

  • A PACK encoding - reduction of audio level

    Hi all,
I always use the Apack Apple utility to encode all my audio mixes. I'm a professional sound designer and during the mix, i use a properly calibrated equipment.
All files are properly calibrated AND in phase.
Sometime i've find this following problem on my encoded stuff.
When i finish an audio encoding process i recheck the audiovideo playback through my dvdstudiopro 3.0 simulator and in some point in the video i can hear a strange "automatic" reduction of audio level, randomly, not in the part where the audio is hight. This happens also on the mastered file on dvd.
I would like to inform that my mix was controlled before goes to encoding session.
This is not a frequntly finded problem, just in rare case.
This is my setting for apack
    Kbs 192 (stereo) 448 (DD)
    compression none
    Dialog norm -31 db
    No low pass
    No Rf over modulation
    thanks to all
    Mark

All those settings look correct for A.Pack. One thing to check, however, is that your files are REALLY set to -31db for DNV. Open them back up in A.Pack and check (there's some option for File Info or somethingorother to display an AC3 file's settings). A.Pack has a very annoying bug where, if you type -31 in the field but you don't press Enter, the change does not happen and your files end up back at -27 (with the resulting "pumping" of audio).

  • Print to Video - Audio Level

We just sent a Commercial out to the Cable Company.
In FCP our timeline/project audio levels were carefully watched so they did not peak at more than -12db.
When we did a Print to Video so we could Master it to DV Tape for delivery (per their standards), we set the Bars & Tone at :30 seconds & -12db.
When we re-captured the video to test it out... the Bars & Tone played at -24db and the program played at -12db. Naturally, this concerned us because we were scared that our program's Audio Levels would not be up to par.
-Normally (in Avid) I would have Bars & Tone on my timeline set to :30secs & -12db... then capture from my timeline with all levels peaking at -12db.
What should our levels be set at during a Print to Video operation in FCP if our timeline/project is set at -12db?

I suspect I would not even peak at -3 dBFS. If I am using 24 bit, you have a long way to the noise floor, which means after the fact it is easy to raise the levels if required without adverse consequences.
If I am in the Analog domain, with a decent mixer with headroom, coming near 0dB I believe is harmless, as 0dB will translate out to -18 ot 20 dBFS ( I am sure this varies from mixer to mixer ) - harmless if your mixer does not clip and has headroom above 0dB. I use a Mackie 1640, which has +18 dB of headroom.

  • 7.2 Bug? Audio Levels Normalized to Max on Export - Blown Out Audio

Is anyone else experience an audio level shift upon export from Premiere Pro/Media Encoder CC 7.2? Since updating audio or video files I export (AIFF, WAV, h264, etc.) have the audio levels automatically increased, it appears maybe they are being automatically normalized to 0db. But, the increase results in blown out audio.
Pretty major issue if this is a bug. If it's a 'feature' anyone know how to turn it off?
    I'm on a PC using Windows 7 64bit.
Update: The audio levels are not being normalized. The problem has to do with stereo audio tracks that have been imported as mono. I was able to resolve the issue by changing my import audio preferences to import Stereo Media 'Use File' and reimporting my audio files  - exporting then worked as expected.
However, exporting from stereo tracks imported to mono tracks the audio is somehow being duplicated on export resulting in levels that are too high. Not sure if this is a bug or just something to do with the conversion of my old project files...

    Nick,
Maybe not very useful info here, but an advice...
Being a native user of æ, ø and å when it comes to talking and writing, I have learned long time ago that using such (æ. ø, å) in file names (or in anything purely computer related) is something that causes hick-ups now and then.
PS! "Half" when it comes to sound is -3 or -6 dB (dependent on sound power or sound level)

  • If I change audio levels in AE CS6 from 0db, it decides to output left channel only.

This is a bug that's been prevalent in every iteration of AE CS6. I'm updated to the most recent version. This is also something I've seen around a lot of forums, but nobody has an answer.
If I change the audio levels on any audio track from the default 0db, the RAM preview only plays back the left channel which completely breaks the way I can properly work.
If I render it out, the audio is fine... it's clearly only on RAM previews. But rendering out things to check audio levels is not a solution.
    Any idea why this happens?

  • Adjusting audio levels

    Hi
I'm working on material where the footage has been filmed by different people and (lucky me), the audio levels are not consistent. On a particular one, the sound level on the camera was turned down so low (I presume) that after capturing, it is barely audible. (and no, there is no chance of refilming the footage!)
I have whacked up the level within FCP but this is obviously causing me problems because you can hear that buzzing noise (dont know the correct term!) that you get when you turn the volume up of something.
I have sort of tried to apply the audio filters here and there to see if it makes any difference but because I'm unfamiliar with terms like frequency, band width, gain etc, I don't know exactly what should be adjusted.
Any ideas would be really useful
    Cheers
    Jenny x

If you are using FCP 5, then you should take advantage of Soundtrack Pro. You can boost audio levels (normalize) and remove ambient noise/hum/etc.
You can get a taste of how to reduce noise in the STP Quicktour:

  • IOS 5 sync with iTunes not keeping playlist sort

Anyone else have the problem of iTunes playlists not keeping their sort when sync'ed to iOS 5(iPhone 4)?

    Fixed, sort of!
I'm having the exact same issue with iTunes 10.5, iOS 5 on an iPhone 4S.  My regular (not smart) playlist was sorted by "Date Added" newest on top, and in my phone it seemed to be sorted by "Date Added" oldest on top (which is silly because I want to play my new music more often than my old music...)
Anyway, on a whim, I tried sorting my iTunes playlist by "Plays" and synced and it WORKED (properly sorted by "Plays" on my iPhone).  Thinking I had fixed the issue, I again sorted by "Date Added" newest on top, and synced, and the iPhone reverted to "Date Added" oldest on top...
Thinking it might be just the "Date Added" column sorting that's F'd, I sorted by "Name," and synced and it WORKED (properly sorted by "Name" on my iPhone).
Not wanting to test each column, I decided to leave it sorted by "Plays," least on top, which is similar to "Date Added" newest on top, but not exactly.  It'll have to do until Apple fixes this issue.
Conclusion: At least the "Date Added" column sorting in iTunes is completely disregarded on the iPhone, choose another sort column for now
