Audio levels go wacky when I export to AIF file?

I am working on a 13 minute multitrack project in Soundtrack Pro.  I went through and set all the levels, then I export it to an AIF file and put it back into my Final Cut Pro project.  Once I export, there are three scenes in which the audio levels go completely wacky - some places are at a lower level than what I set and other places are at a higher level than I set.  I then go back into STP and when I listen back at those scenes these new wacky levels show up in STP.  I then close STP and reopen and lo and behold the levels I orginally set (that I was very happy with) are back in place like nothing ever happned.
Some notes on what it might have to do with:  All three of these scenes were shot using 2 Lav mics.  These were each set into it's own channel on the Handy recorder.  In STP, each lav channel is in it's own track.  The audio level settings that I like for these two channels are very different (one actor was much quieter than the other).  It almost seems as if in the export STP wants to put Channel 2 at the same level I have Channel 1 - which I don't want.
I have been spinning my wheels for hours trying to fix this.  Anybody out there have any ideas or solutions or workarounds?
Much obliged for any help!
Michelle

This problem has also been plaguing me today. Here are my specifics and how I solved it (Expanding on what Quentin Holmes mentioned)
CONFIRMED WORK AROUND! The .m4v file gets created while encoding, but Adobe Media Encoder does not re-pack it back into the .mp4 unless you select the "Export Audio" in Adobe Premier export prior to queuing. If you don't want audio, mute the individual tracks and still export audio.
My details:
Just bought a GH4, shooting 4k 25fps MOV, trying to simply trim a few clips and export them as H.264 .mp4 with no audio. (By the way it would be nice if we could export 4k .MOV files from the camera back into .MOV once finished editing, but in premier that frame resolution is not supported)
Specs: Mac Mini, Quad Core i7, 16GB Ram, OSX 10.9.4, Adobe Premier Pro CS6 6.0.5, Adobe Media Encoder 6.0.2.81
Hope that helps anyone with the same prob

When I export my number file in Excel, I can not open the spreadsheet : Invalid Reference, what's wrong ?

"Invalid reference" usually means there is a cell reference in a formula to a cell that does not exist in the document.
In this case, it could mean that your Numbers document uses a feature that is not supported by MS Excel, and because of that, the document cannot be translated into an Excel file.
A more specific answer would require a more detailed description of your Numbers document.

  • 7.2 Bug? Audio Levels Normalized to Max on Export - Blown Out Audio

Is anyone else experience an audio level shift upon export from Premiere Pro/Media Encoder CC 7.2? Since updating audio or video files I export (AIFF, WAV, h264, etc.) have the audio levels automatically increased, it appears maybe they are being automatically normalized to 0db. But, the increase results in blown out audio.
Pretty major issue if this is a bug. If it's a 'feature' anyone know how to turn it off?
    I'm on a PC using Windows 7 64bit.
Update: The audio levels are not being normalized. The problem has to do with stereo audio tracks that have been imported as mono. I was able to resolve the issue by changing my import audio preferences to import Stereo Media 'Use File' and reimporting my audio files  - exporting then worked as expected.
However, exporting from stereo tracks imported to mono tracks the audio is somehow being duplicated on export resulting in levels that are too high. Not sure if this is a bug or just something to do with the conversion of my old project files...

    Nick,
Maybe not very useful info here, but an advice...
Being a native user of æ, ø and å when it comes to talking and writing, I have learned long time ago that using such (æ. ø, å) in file names (or in anything purely computer related) is something that causes hick-ups now and then.
PS! "Half" when it comes to sound is -3 or -6 dB (dependent on sound power or sound level)

  • Audio not in sync when i export file

    Hi all,
Im having touble with an imovie project.
The footage in question was filmed with a canon XL1.
When i import and edit it in imovie its all fine, the audio is all in sync.
However when i export the project to a DV file the sound becomes out of sync towards the end of the film. I have also tried exporting as .mov, wmv, and also DVD through iDvd and i still get the same audio sync problem.
I have copied the whole project over to my other computer as a test and get the same problem.
The settings im using are as follows:
iMovie: set to DV pal 25fps when i originaly imported the footage from camcorder.
Ive tried exporting in everyway possible.
I have never had this problem before and have used imovie for several projects.
I have looked through the forums and searched to find similar problems, but the only ones i could find were problems with sound blips.
If anyone could help i'd be really happy.
    Spencer.

    Hi Spencer
The times I got this problem I've:
set the Camera to 12-bit sound - should be 16-bit
used LP-mode on my Camera (sets sound to 12-bit - no good)
    or
Haveing to little free space on my hard disk. >20Gb free after import of
    my movie material.
    Other possible origins is:
    1. wrong mix of iMovie, QuickTime and Mac OS versions.
Mac OS X.3.9 + iM 5.0.2 + QT 6.5.2 Working and stable mix
    Mac OS X.4.8 + iM 6.0.3 + QT 7.1.3 also OK
    other mixes can give problems
    2. Running "Repair permissions" Apple Disk Util tool and deleting
iMovie preferensfile (normal Disk maintenance) also can help.

  • Audio levels not sticking when I reopen FCPX

Some of my audio levels are dropping 3 or 4 dB when I launch FCPX after it has been closed for a while. Then, at some point after I have gone through and adjusted the bad levels, they adjust themselves again and are now 3 or 4 dB hot.
The audio isn’t all in the Storyline, some is narration without video and other is audio linked to video. The only “effects” I have added to the audio is to make it “Dual Mono” and set the pan to “Default.”
As I write this, I discovered that if I went to ONE of the clips in question and changed it to Stereo and then back to Dual mono and also changed the pan to None and then back to Default, ALL the bad audio levels in the project corrected themselves. (Not sure if just making one of those adjustments will do the same thing - I’ll try that the next time this problem crops up.)
    VERY STRANGE.
I’m posting in hopes this will help others who may be having the same problem.

Not sure why such weird behavior occurs (Could it be caused by some corrupted preferences therefore trashing them could solve the problem?). however, as a work around have you tried to copy and paste attributes from the audio clip in sequence 1 to the audio clip in sequence 2? That should give you the same keyframes you had in the copied clip (Original sequence).

  • The movie audio sounds right but when I export it has background noise

I am making a project for school and I have added audio to the whole movie, when I export the  movie part of it is playing audio from the actual clips that I dubbed over.  How do I get rid of it?  It doesn't play in iMovie, just when exported.  I have tried iDVD, QuickTime and just export.  They all bring in the audio I don't want.  HELP!!

What you could do now is break up your video into smaller parts and render them out, then assemble them again as a whole.
I know this is not the best fix, but it might work.
You can duplicate an edit in the main screen, then delete the last bits and export,
do the same for the other half.
Then import the two bits (or more if you need) in a new edit.
Out of curiosity, can you post what format the video is in?
Copy a video straight from the camera to your computer.
Open it in Quicktime player, and with out playing type Apple + i
or Control + i for PCs
It should tell you lots of info about the video, and might help us to see what is wrong.

  • When to export a numbers file to csv the minus signs don't work with R

    Friends,
I have trouble getting the statistic program R to read my exported CSV-files from Numbers.
The minus sign doesn't work, R reads it as a factoric input rather than numeric.
Does anyone have a tip how to reformat this?
    Jocke

Wayne, actually, I'm not sure but I think that factoric - or factorial is the denomination that R uses to say that somthing is rather a text than a numeric number - I'm pretty new to R.
But, anyway, we solved the problem but in a lillte bit of an awkward way.
The problem is that the minus sugns in numbers is percieved as dashes in R
    (http://www.R-project.org, a free-ware statistical analysis program)
So where there is a numeric input with a minus sign R thinks it is a letter rather than a number.
We solved it by exporting the numbers file to CSV, opened it in text editor, copied the suspisios minus sign and pasted it into the search field to find all dashes/minus sign that didn't work and replaced them with a minus sign. After this operation, nothing different could be seen in the text but R saw the difference.
So this makes it difficult to explain by posting a screenshot - it looks the same but it isn't.
The funny thing is that the dashes that numbers use when to express a date are percieved as minus signs by R.
Can anyone understand what I tried to explain? And if so, is there a simpler way to do this? We have a lot of minus signs to export to R.....
    best regard
    Joachim

  • Exporting an .aif file

I can export out an .aif file but it says that it's an AIFC file when I click on it's information.
Is there anyway to export out a simple .aif file?
    -Evan Jacobs

AIFC is a compressed version of AIFF.
I've had experiences with certain audio apps not recognizing AIFC.
I haven't been able to find a clear answer as to how AIFC is compressed but IMHO there should be a way to produce the file format of choice and get what you ask for.
If AIFC is indeed different from AIFF then we should have the ability to select between the two.
Another interesting point is that on the occasions when I do receive AIFC files from clients they always think they are sending regular AIFF.
I think the OP's concern is valid.

  • Silence added to the end of 1 of 2 songs that were "split" and exported as .aif files.

    Hey folks,
I have 2 songs that run seamlessly (ideally) together. When splitting them apart in garageband and exporting them seperately as .aif files, I find that the first song ends up with about 4 seconds of silence at the end, while the other does not. This obviously affects their ability to run smoothly together in playback. I've tried doing this a couple different times but have only had luck when sending the songs directly to iTunes as a compressed file. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • No audio channels (only video) when converting/exporting media formats

    Hi,
Last year i bought a license for quicktime 7 but i still have problems when converting.
Als with the new iTunes7 the problem still relies.
When i am converting a mpeg file to the m4v in iTunes the problem is the same.
It doens't matter which media format i get, but after the conversion is done... there are no audio channels!
When u look at the movie info option in the quicktime menu, you can see an video channel, but no audio. the orginal files do get video and audio channels...
about 6 months ago i contacted apple support for this, but the problem still relies..
Does anybody know a fix or maybe Apple can investigate this important bug!! In the past i have used Videora iPod coverter that does the job correct and muchhh faster, but i want quicktime to do that!!!
    Regards,
    Rick Beemsterboer

Quicktime has never exported the sound from muxed mpeg-1 or -2 files: QT Mpeg Limitations
You can run a separate demuxer to get the audio stream out or just use this freeware that exports both video and audio from mpegs to other formats: Mpeg StreamClip

  • When I export a PNG file on illustrator, I get random empty space along with my exported object. Is there any way I can make just my object export and nothing more?

This is an example of my problem. This icon is the sole object in this document, and is the only thing being exported here. Yet when I do export it, a random bar of white space is exported along with it. I am currently using Illustrator to design the art for a video game, meaning that this empty space plays havoc with my end product, and I have to meticulously crop anything I export. Since I do have to make hundreds of individual sprites for this, I would love to learn how to fix this problem and save myself a lot of time. So, what exactly am I doing wrong here, and how can I fix it?

    quicklite,
I believe the resulting/final size may extend just a tiny bit above a whole point/pixel (value) on the pixel grid.
You may see by Edit>Preferences>General>Use Preview Bounds (if needed), then select one of the top Reference Points in the Transform palette and look at the Y value measured in points/pixels.
If that is the case, the solution would be to get rid of that tiny bit.
