Audio Levels in Final Cut Pro 6.0.5

Is it possible to destructively alter the audio levels of a source clip to be higher than +12db?
Also, similarly, is it possible to destructively alter the midrange frequencies?
I have a lot of material to work through, and applying audio filters seems unecessarily time consuming. Any suggestions?
Jared

You could edit the audio into a nested sequence, then raise the levels on the clip inside the nested sequence, then in the parent sequence raise the levels on the clip representing the nest. You could even do another level of nesting and raise the levels again. You could even do another level of nesting...

how to setup an artist mix (audio mixer) on final cut pro 7?

    Hi Meatpuppet,
I'm having the same issue with not getting my audio through to the client on Ichat theater preveiew. I'm on a mac pro with a small DV camera attached via firewire. when I start the chat, the person on the other side sees and hears me fine, but then when I start sharing in FCP, the video switches so that the remote person sees the time line, but loses the audio from me and doesn't hear the audio from the time line...
The manual recommends "disconnecting and external video device" ( then what do us mac pro folks do?)
So my question for you, and I know that you're on and Apogee Duet, is: Was your tinkering in FCP, your system sound settings, or iChat? in other words, where was the disconnect?
    thanks.

  • Using Tascam US-122mk11 as audio interface in Final Cut Pro 7

Using Tascam US-122mk11 as audio interface in Final Cut Pro 7. Works fine with Garage Band. Final Cut Pro won't use it. It appears in source menu in Voice Over Tools, but FCP won't use it.

This is the Final Cut Pro X forum. You are using a very different application. The Final Cut Studio forum, which is for the application you're using, is here:
      https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_stud io
Give exact details of your media and sequence settings. It would also be good to know what kind of drive you're using and how it's connected.

  • Is out of sync audio because of Final Cut Pro X or DVD-R 8x?

Hi, I tried burning a 2 hour DVD straight from Final Cut Pro X (with it's featured menu).  I used an Imation DVD-R 8x, and the burn went through successfully.  However, the footage turned out pixelated and I noticed about halfway through that the audio was getting out of sync.  I went back to check my sequence in FCPX to make sure I hadn't made a mistake and everything is alright.  Was this an issue with the DVD I was using, or with FCPX's DVD exporting?

In FCPX, Share>DVD>Settings>Output Device>Hard Drive. That will make a disk image.
If you have iDVD, great choice. Just Share>Master File, and brong that into iDVD. The iDVD app will do the encoding and give you a disk image option as well.

  • Apple Audio Filters in Final Cut Pro

I'm posting this question here because I didn't receive any responses in the Final Cut Pro message area, and I thought given the nature of the questions, audiofiles that read this area might have an answer.
In Final Cut Pro there are two folders of audio filters, one called APPLE and the other FINAL CUT PRO.
I fully realize none of these filters have the power of programs like SOUNDTRACK PRO.
However, I'm in a situation where I need to document what the filters do. I've already found all the material I need for the FINAL CUT PRO filters. However, I can't find any information anywhere on the APPLE category of filters.
    My questions:
#1 - Does anybody know why the APPLE audio filters are seperated out from the Final Cut Pro filters? How are they different generally?
#2 - Does anybody know where I can find documentation on what each of the APPLE category of audio filters do? I can't find it in the Final Cut Pro Manuals or Diane Weyland books. I found some Ken Stone tutorials on line, but they don't address the APPLE filters.
#3 - And many of the APPLE audio filters seem to be near duplicates in the Final Cut Pro audio filters, so what's the point in having two versions?
Any info at all or a direction to look would be appreciated.
    Thanks so much.

As of Leopard I was surprised to find that the Apple system plug-ins, and those that are supplied with the FCP suite are not AU plug-ins in the old sense of what a plug-in used to be. They no longer exist as a file anywhere in the system as they used to. Audio Unit plug ins formerly used to exist in Library/Audio/Plug ins/Components - now they are build into the Leopard operating system.
Any third party plug-in you purchase will still be installed in the "old" way.
Sorry, I can't remember where that documentation exists. Probably in the developer docs somewhere.

  • Audio problem with Final Cut Pro x. (New to x)

    Hello,
I recently switched over to Final Cut Pro x and am just now starting to get adjusted. I just ran into this problem and I'm having trouble solving on my own. Here you go...
I just imported a bunch of video into my "event" and went through and logged everything. Everything sounds fine until I drag my clips onto the timeline. Once I drag them down the audio gets lower and sounds very muffled. Does anyone know what would be the cause of this?
    Thanks!
    Clayton

What are the exact specs of the original media? Open in the QT player and report what it says in the movie inspector.

  • The sample audio files in Final Cut Pro X will not play

How can I hear the sample audio in Final Cut Pro X without dragging the clips onto the timeline. They used to play, but stopped after the computers were connected to Tenaka.

The only way to test it is to go to Network system prefrences and switch off all connections to networking. There are no plugins for FCP that are used for network connections.

  • IPhone 3Gs audio drift in Final cut Pro (but not qt player or imovie)

Is anyone else having audio drift issues with video from the 3gs when imported into FCP? We find that a 30 minute clip plays just fine in Quicktime player with perfectly synced audio, but when brought into final cut pro the clip has several seconds of drift over thirty minutes. This is before it's ever placed into a timeline, and the issue persists even if we transcode to prores 4:4:4 or any other codec. Issue duplicated in FCP 6 and 7.
Also, the movies are often brought in upside-down, even though they are displayed perfectly by quicktime player.
If, however, I bring the same clip into imovie and export it, the resulting clip has perfectly synced audio which works fine in FCP.
Essentially, apple's free tools seem to have no problem with iphone-captured video, but Final Cut, which is the pro tool, seems to have issues. Unless I'm missing some obvious (or abstruse) configuration step which is causing the problem.
Any insight greatly appreciated; everyone in our shop is stumped.

    Shane,
Thanks for your response, though I don't really see the need for the condescending tone while offering no useful information. I'm aware that H.264 is not an editing format -- If you had taken the time to read my post more carefully, you would note that I have already transcoded the footage ("and the issue persists even if we transcode to prores 4:4:4 or any other codec. Issue duplicated in FCP 6 and 7"), so your suggestion "Use Compressor to convert it to DV." really doesn't help much. We've done so and the problem persists. Hence the post.
Incidentally, I have transcoded with quicktime player, compressor, and FCP. All preserve the audio drift. Interestingly, Imovie deals with it well, kicking out a file with perfect sync. My instinct is that it's a metadata issue (i.e. FCP is misinterpreting the actual framerate of the video) but I'm looking for any similar experiences out there.
As for "professional" vs. non pro hardware and software, I certainly don't expect the iphone to shoot footage or offer features that are comparable to those of a pro camera. I do expect it to properly encode quicktime files for use with any bug-free quicktime-based tool, of which FCP is the flagship example. Should aperture not be required to handle photos from point and click digitals because they are not "professional?"
It's a somewhat ridiculous position to take that Apple's video tool would not support their only video-capable device. There are many consumer devices supported by FCP (you've heard of DV, yes?) and the 3Gs (and, I would assume, the coming video-capable ipod touch) are no exception.
In short, this is clearly a bug, and I'm trying to run it to the ground in order to use the 3Gs within a production environment for a project requiring many mobile devices uploading video from wifi connections around the world. If you have any useful information to offer, I'm all ears.

  • Using Waves audio plugins in Final Cut Pro

Does anyon know how to use presets for Waves plugins in Final Cut Pro. The plugins show up, but don't have the graphical interface or the ability to apply presets (to my knowledge) maybe there is a workaround?
otherwise can anyone reccomend a good workflow possibly with soundtrack?
    Thanks.
    BZ.

Real? You mean as in Real Player? Those don't work in FCP...they aren't an editable format.
Mac the Ripper? This converts DVDs to Real movies?
Google MPEG STREAMCLIP. It decodes MPEG-2 files into DV and a more workable format.
And also look into DVDxDV. It can convert NON-COPYPROTECTED footage to an editable one.

  • Compressor (Audio Filter) at Final Cut Pro.

At Logic I used to use the filter Compressor to limit audio tracks(like soundtracks) while I needed
emphasize another audio (interviews, for instance). I saw at Final Cut audio filters a filter
called "Compressor / Limiter". I am not environmentalized with this filter at Final Cut.
What I want is limit the audio from a3/a4 while the interview plays in another track.
In what track do I need to apply it?
    thx

Just dropping it onto the audio track won't do anything -you have to actively make some kind of adjustments by changing the values under the filters tab.

  • Writing an Audio plugin for Final Cut Pro

    Hi all
There doesnt seem to be much info out there about writing plugins for FCP... I've looked at FXBuilder and FXScript, but they only seem to deal with video. I want to write a plugin that will normalize all of the clips on my timeline (I know normalizing is a sin to some audiophiles, but there are situations where I dont have time to take everything into Pro Tools or Soundtrack Pro and just need reasonable levels across an entire project). So my question is, would I need to write a plugin for FCP specifically and if so, is there an SDK or sample code somewhere, or should I write this as an Audio Unit plugin and if so, where do I start? Any help or advice would be appreciated
    cheers

I'd think that the ADC is where you should start... (Apple Develeopers connection) http://developer.apple.com/ Might find the SDK you need there.
Also Joe at Joe's filters or Graeme Nattress might be of help. Great guys both...

  • IChat Theater - Audio not working - (Final Cut Pro 7)

    Hello Forum
I just installed FCP 7 and am trying to get IChat Theater to work. The video comes through fine, but I don't hear the audio of FCP. Any ideas why? The audio of the mic comes through, we can have a normal chat conversation but the audio of the playback is just dead.
My setup (I am the editor):
    FCP 7
    OSX 10.5.6
Mac Pro (early 2009) without Video Camera, only mic
    My client's setup:
    OSX 10.5.6
Macbook Pro with camera and mic
Do I need to have a camera installed on my mac pro?
    Any insight appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Audio Issues in Final Cut Pro 6

Recently working on a project, re-opened it the other day, to have the audio playing at a slowed rate if at all. Speed still says 100% and the problem occurs regardless the song or project I use. Any Ideas?

Make sure you don't have multiple cameras/decks (anything other than drives) connected to your computer.

  • How do I select just one audio channel in Final Cut Pro X?

I know this has been asked and answered somewehre... and I'm pretty sure the answer is simple. But I don't have hour's to search the net.
And the FCPX "Help" feature just ****** me off....
I recorded voice on channel 2 and shotgun nat.sound on channel 1.
I only want the voice track (channel 2) to playback in stereo.
I have already edited the video so I don't want to re-import the raw video to seperate out just the channel 2 voice track.
How do I select just one audio channel in the timeline, then pan it so it plays back in both the L and R channel?
Also, some of the audio was recorded with a air conditioner running in the background.  Any suggestions on best audio filers to remove or lessen it?
    Thanks, Barry

I think you want to select the clip in the Timeline, choose the Inspector and then Audio, dual mono.
You can even do this by selecting multiple clips.
In the Event Browser as well.

  • How to retrieve the Audio/Video link (final cut pro hd 5)

Hi there, and sorry for my misknowledgement of this soft.
I'd like to know if it's possible once we have delete the audio part of a clip in the timeline to get back the Audio part synchronized with the video.
    Thx for help !

Not entirely sure if I'm following you but try this:
    Select your video-only clip
Press F on your keyboard to do a Match Frame. The (video & audio) clip should now be loaded into the Viewer with the In & Out matching your timeline clip.
Replace the clip in the timeline with the clip from the Viewer (For most folks/scenarios, that means drag from the Viewer)
Post back if that isn't it.
