Audio loopback function in Logic?

In attempting to answer another question a forum participant stated that Logic has a "loopback" function for audio such that the output of a standalone virtual instrument can be looped back into a Logic Bus or Aux channel without involvement of an audio interface or its software - - or any other software (such as SoundFlower or Jack OSX). Unfortunately he did not say exactly how to accomplish this. I would very much like to know if this is possible and, if it is, I would be most appreciative of a detailed description of how to accomplish it.
Thanks,
Steve

Still not clear:
How do I route the audio output of an external standalone host application to an Instrument or Audio track within Logic. The Vienna Ensemble's outputs are limited to the audio interface's channels, built-in audio or a bus I create within Vienna Ensemble. Vienna Ensemble - when used as a standalone - does not "see" Logic as a potential audio output object. It receives MIDI from Logic via the IAC bus.
Is there a way in which Logic can be made to see the Vienna Ensemble's audio outputs? Vienna Ensemble can also be used as a plugin - - something I already know how to do.
The advantage of using it as a standalone is that one can use it as a plugin and standalone or with multiple standalones simultaneously - - with each standalone having a separate memory partition and all these memory partitions separate from that inhabited by the plugin - - thus providing a way of exceeding the 3GB limit for loading samples imposed by 32-bit software. No doubt I am missing something.

  • How can I add the audio content cd after logic finished installing ?

There was an eror installing the Audio Content CD 1 and I did not notice. Everything else installed properly, Audio Content CD 2, Jam Pack, but how can I add the Audio Content CD1 after Logic has finished installing?
If you can help me please be very specific as to how to do it so that I can follow the directions properly.
    Please help me.
    Thanks

    Hi
You could re-run the installer, or, once you have updated to Logic 9.1.8 you could use the "Download Additional Content" function in the Logic Pro menu. It will tell you what is installed and what is incomplete.

  • Audio Unit Bridge overlapping Logic.

    Hi all,
Sylenth was previously working fine until I installed 9.1.8 update moments ago. My apology if my explaination is rather confusing but this is what I'm currently facing.
I'm on 64bit logic and trying to load Sylenth, this window pops up.
Sylenth eventually shows up after clicking it but logic is now being overlapped by the 32-bit Audio Unit Bridge application, restricting me to audition Sylenth with the Capslock keyboard. Notice that my top status bar (next to Apple Icon) has 32-bit Audio Unit Bridge as active window now? Disallowing me to play the Capslock keyboard.
So, I cannot play Capslock keyboard when I have Sylenth as active window and vice versa. Is there a way I could go around it ?
    Thanks a bunch in advance.

As far as I can tell, Sylenth is a 32-bit instrument, not a 64-bit instrument. If you're running Logic in 64-bit mode, the only way you can use Sylenth is via the 32-bit Audio Unit Bridge.
When I run a 32-bit plugin in Logic Pro in 64-bit mode, I can preview instruments with my MIDI keyboard controller, or with the Capslock keyboard in Logic. I don't have Sylenth, or Logic 9.1.8, or Mountain Lion (on purpose!), so I can't duplicate the condition you're reporting (assuming I've understood your post correctly). But with any 32-bit plugin I own and use via the 32-Bit Audio Unit Bridge in Logic Pro running in 64-bit mode, I can use either the MIDI keyboard controller or Logic's Capslock keyboard. I am not restricted to using only the Capslock keyboard, nor does the 32-bit Audio Unit Bridge render the Capslock keyboard non-functional. It works exactly as it should.
It might be that your problem is with Logic 9.1.8. It has known bugs with certain plugins. I was unable to get any of my EastWest Quantum Leap plugins to validate under Logic 9.1.8, and I had to revert to 9.1.7. (I'm running Snow Leopard v10.6.8. and 9.1.7 is extremely stable and reliable in that system.)
If you need to revert to Logic 9.1.7, here's how to do it: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4551179?tstart=0

  • How do you do an audio to score in Logic Pro X?

I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to perform the "audio to score" function in Logic Pro X. I often used this feature in Logic 8 & 9 to convert audio basslines to midi files. It appears that this feature is left out of Logic Pro X. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Try pg. 171 in the users guide.

Using drum replacement, you can replace individual drum sounds on an audio track without re-recording the entire track. To replace or double the drum sounds, you use an audio track that contains a recording of a single drum (or other percussion instrument) to create a software instrument track with matching MIDI trigger notes. The software instrument track plays drum samples using the EXS24 mkII.
    Hide
Replace or double a recorded drum signal
Select the audio track with the drum recording.
Choose Track > Replace or Double Drum Track (or use the corresponding key command). The following changes take place in the Tracks area:
All files on the selected audio track are analyzed for transients (if they have not been previously analyzed). The selected track is vertically zoomed.
A software instrument track is created below the audio track, and the EXS24 is inserted into the Instrument slot.
The Library opens with the EXS24 selected, so that you can choose the sound that best matches the project.
A MIDI region containing trigger notes based on the detected transients is created on the software instrument track.
    The Drum Replacement/Doubling dialog opens.

  • Message determination and Partner function LS (Logical system) for PO

    Hi,
I have worked in the past with vendors (VN) as partner roles in a PO, with the message to create an EDI outpout to Partner Type: LI (Vendor), and this works succesfully.
Now, the idea was to use in EDI, a Partner Type: LS (Logical system) as a receiver of EDI messages (message types: ORDERS) for inbound Purchase Orders to the Partner.
So, we have set up a respective message condition, with Partner Function: LS  (Logical System), in transaction: MN04 (Create Output-condition records).
    A. When we use ME59N and create a PO with ref. from a PR (created from a sales order), the message determination works well, it reads the condition set in MN04 (condition records for messages), and creates a message (with output type for EDI , medium: 6, and partner function LS: Logical system). Message is created and idoc is sent to partner.
    B. When we try with ME21N, ME21 and we create the PO with ref. to the same PR, either by entering manually the PR in the document overview of ME21N or by selecting the PR (without entering the PR number), i.e with date, the message is not created in the PO.
Company code is assigned to purchase organization, and so is purchase organization to plant.
Any idea why there is no automatic message determination in the case of the transaction: ME21N?
There is a single message condition that is to be read for both cases (trans: ME59N and ME21N).
Note: If I try ME21N, and enter the output type and partner (=Logical System), manually, I receive a warning message :
VN006 (Partner XXXX does not exist for partner function LS). If I accept this warning message, then message is saved- idoc is sent.
However you can not assign a partner function LS to a vendor, in vendor master data, because of message CZ 327 (Can not use this partner role).
Anyone with similar experience? Thank you for your advice.

    Hi,
I well understand that the receiving partner can be a partner: Vendor (LI).
    I have seen that working.
However, in the Partner Profiles (trans: WE20), the receiver was created as a Logical System (LS).
We want the partner Logical system (LS) to receive the idoc for purchase order (ORDERS).
After that, I think that the idea is that the LS can generate an idoc for a sales order creation that will then outbound to another partner.  I think that this is the concept.
The issue is that I have seen that the POs created with transaction: ME59N, have received from message determination (trans: MN04) the message with partner LS (automatically), and the idoc of the purchase order (ORDERS) have reached the partner LS.
The question is why the message determination fails when creating the PO from trans: ME21N or ME21, with reference to the PR. Message condition is the same and message determination procedure is the same for both cases.
There is no issue with customizing for the LS in trans: WE20
(Port processing agent is Active for LS and ORDERS have the proper processing code for application EF).
I hope I am helping more with this.

  • How do I record an audio source outside of Logic while in Logic?

Hi everyone, I have a question I would like to address to the forum.
How do I record an audio source outside of Logic while in Logic? For example, I would like to record the audio off a youtube video or dvd to be then used in Logic. I am using a Dididesign M-Box Mini for both my audio input and audio output i.e. all sound is coming in and out of the M-Box. I hope this is an easy question to answer (I am a new Mac user). Thanks in advance.

Use the 3.5mm audio out jack on the back of your computer. Connect it to your audio interface, and record like normal. You need an adapter cable. ( 3.5mm stereo to two 1/4 inch mono) see link.

  • What happened to the audio out function in the Music app?

I have had pretty good luck with iOS 7, but the one thing that really bugs me is that they took out the audio out function in the Music app.
In iOS 6.X's Music app the Now Playing screen had an Audio Out option at the bottom of the screen.  I am sure it was called something else, but you could tap it and choose the audio out channel you wanted to use, iPhone speakers, earphones, bluetooth and I think AirPlay.
Why would they remove this option?
I was just wondering if there is another music player that still includes this option. I use Stezza for in the car (Big buttons) and Lagu when I want the old iOS music player interface.  But neither of them include the audio select option.
I will submit this as feedback on the feedback page to see if they will consider putting it back in.

  • Has anyone tried M-Audio ProjectMix IO with Logic?

Has anyone tried M-Audio ProjectMix IO with Logic?
I know M-Audio's drivers have had issues, but it looks interesting.

The Fishman Triple Play is simply the best hardware option to date for triggering external MIDI whether hardware sound modules or software instruments.
Having used many MIDI guitar converters since '89, I can say that the FTP tracking is very accurate and velocity dynamics are reasonably wide from soft to loud.
The Triple Play app works in Stand Alone mode in OSX 10.7.5 but not in 10.8.3.
In 10.8.3, you load the Fishman Triple Play plug-into into the I/O of a software instrument track.  Open the app and adjust sensitivity, mono vs poly, transposition down or up an  octave, etc.  Save your set ups as presets which can be scrolled through with the D-Pad control on the converter.
While the GR-55 is an amazing all-in-one solution in a small, light weight package (in relation to the bulk and weight of several actual guitars, basses, amps, fx, etc), it is a poor choice for triggering external sound sources.  Whereas I can play "bass" lines on the open E and A strings with my now obsolete Roland GI-20 and RMC piezo equipped guitar without any sense of latency, the GR-55 latency was simply intolerable.  Of course one could revert to the old strategy of playing parts an octave higher on the fret board to increase speed and accuracy of tracking. But what about playing "piano" with  fretted triads against the open E or A strings???
Think I'm full of hot air?  Skim through this: http://www.joness.com/gr300/MIDI_SPEED.htm
    I traded my GR-55 towards a JTV-59.
Once set up, you're gonna love the FTP.  As I mostly sequence MIDI in Logic, being wireless is incredibly convenient.

  • Is there a note repeat function on Logic Pro?

Just switched to Logic Pro but I am used to sequencing with a MPC i.e. note repeat Is there a note repeat function in Logic? It can be helpful when sequencing drums! If not, is there some other software that allow to to use note repeat on the logic instruments? Thanks

    Hi,
press CMD-8 to open the environment window. Select "new - arpeggiator"
Now think how you want to trigger the arpeggiator. Do you want to trigger it with a MIDI Region? Or do you want to trigger it with live MIDI input (from a keyboard or so)?
Maybe you also have to select "new - physical input"
You can pull cables inside the environment window. pull a cable from the source trck or source input to the arpeggiator. Then pull another one from the arpeggiator to the drum track you want to trigger.
Now select the arpeggiator and set up the speed (1/8, 1/16 - what you want). Look in the manual for "arpeggiator".
Now the master-hint: The arpeggiator only functions when logic is running. So when stop or pause is pressed, no arpeggio So, start your song, only press 1 key and voila: there are the manymany drumdrumdrum bangbangs.
Have Fun, and good luck with the setup - i tried some time to get this right.

  • Export Audio to Movie - where is that function in Logic 9?

I have noticed that a very useful function in my Logic Pro 8 (version 8.0.2) options/movie/export audio to movie is not found in the Logic 9 version. One of my friends has this version (and an Intel Mac) but I cannot help him working with music and video - I cannot find it anywhere in the Logic 9 menus. Can you help?
    Best, Peter Danstrup

I just opened a quicktime movie. Added an audio track, and am looking for the option indicated in the manual: "Choose File > Export Audio to Movie". Upstream it's indicated that this option only appears if a movie is present. My movie is present, but still this option does not appear?
    Ideas?

  • Does M-audios project mix I/O not function with Logic express 7.2 ?

I am having lots of problems getting this working, and it suddenly occurs to me that this equipment may not work with the Express version. Anyone know?

    Scott,
You bring music to my ears. A few questions (I'm sold at this point, just want these questions answered for sugar coating, I guess):
1.) Does the Project Mix communicate effectively with Logic's 'MIDI Learn' feature? I tried utilizing this with M-Audio's Trigger Finger, but the Finger (or Logic, can't tell which) did not lock on to the assignment. Having any trouble with this?
2.) Are there memory banks and is it easy to save all settings at any given point to certain bank? Ideally I'd like to have a different memory bank for each song, so an extensive inventory of blank memory would be very useful.
3.) How's the LCD Screen? Really awesome or uncommunicative with the user (as in, do the abbreviations make it difficult to read, or is it fairly intuitive?)
Thanks a lot. And Stash, your words are tight, too.

  • Export audio function in logic..can it be done in real time?

    hey,
does anyone know if the export audio option can be done in real time as oppose to an offline bounce. there is a sonic difference between exporting files offline and actually bouncing them individually. Enough to actually make me consider going back to the old school way of bouning each track one by one. i obviously don't wnat to do that but and very dissapointed the hear the sonic difference between the two. If i do decide to do that wouald lla to the virtual inst be sample accurate? I know the exs 24 would be but what about spectrasonics stuff or other 3rd party virtual inst. does logic ahve and interanl engine that mkaes them sample accurate?
    thanks in advance,
    ej

    hey justin
i'm not sure i i get what you mean. if you are saying that i could lets say take 16 outs of logic and digitally record them in the pt then that is true...however logic drifts when locked to timecode which becomes obvious when you have to do mulitple passes (i guess all daws do to so extent). also let say that if i did a stereo track bounce of the music and then imported that bounce into pt for the purposes of recording vox. if i then decide to import the tracks via analog or digital, the track will be out of time with the original trak and require me to start shifting vox to compensate...not fun.
the thing that i like about exporting and bounce is that i don't have to worry about timing issues that way..it's just that bouncing sounds way better that exporting.
if i could export in real time then that would solve my problem. I guess i now see why digi has ignored requests foe offline bouncing,
    any thoughts would be appreciated

  • Export as audio file functioning differently on two Logic 9 installations

    Hi all,
We are exporting regions as audio files one at a time. On one machine, we have file conversion information, including the Apogee dithering, and after we name the file, it appears in the head of the region. This is the setting we need.
In another installation, using the same command, we don't get the file conversion information (no dithering options) and the name on the region stays the same.
We have the same operating system (10.5.8), same Logic number (9.02), same interface (Apogee). I am assuming that I have settings somewhere on one computer that isn't on another, but I can't seem to find them.
    Thanks.

    The Art Of Sound wrote:
Evidently it's not giving the user a choice at installation?
It does.. but it words it along the lines of 'Have you used Logic Pro in the past?" kind of thing....
So an experienced DAW user that hasn't previously used Logic, would get the limited installation.
The more people you try and and protect from themselves the more generic (i.e. limited) the solution.
Religion would be a good example of this.
