Audio makes my slide show too long

This is my first time using Encore. I am trying add a simple slideshow onto my dvd but i am having problems when adding music. The slideshow lasts only a min but when i add the music the slideshow lasts for the whole of the song, even tho the pictures end way before. Just leaving 2 mins of black screen. Is there a way to stop this, or do i just have to use pro tools, which i dont have at the moment, to shorten the music track. I was hoping for a quickfix that doesnt involve another programme i have to indtall seing as i am formatting my hard drive tommorow anyway.

Choose the selection tool(black arrow). Move to the end of the audio track. The arrow will turn into a red ]. Hold down the left mouse button and move the end point of the audio to the desired spot.
You can also fit the length of the slideshow to the soundtrack by choosing "Fit Slideshow to Audio Duration" in the Slideshow Options panel. This will lengthen the time that each slide is on screen so that both audio and video will end at the same time.

I am i bit puzzled by the use of iphoto/imovie/itunes.
I have a Sony camera which generates jpg photos and mpg videos; besides, i have 3gp and mp4 videos from cell phones.
Firstly, i imported all of them to iphoto. I used a automator workflow to help importing from hotsynced Palm centro files, to discover the first problem with the 3gp files: they could not be iported by workflows.
Still, they could be seen in iphoto, but then i tried to make a slide show. My idea was to put the photos and videos of a certain event to be watched together, or at least to be able to watch the videos in a sequence, without having to click on each one.
I didnt get it in iphoto, so i switched to imovie. it was even worse, since it cannot import the mpgs and the 3gps (the jpg photos were ok). What could i do about that? is there any converter or other way?
then i tried the itunes, and it was the opposite: it imported and played in sequence the mpg videos, but not the photos. This is a workaround anyway, since the program expects to play movies, and makes my daughter a "star", but that`s ok, she is one to me.
i'll be thankful for hints on how to make the imovie compatible with the 3gp and mpgs, or finding some way to do this edition in iphoto or even with itunes.

QT Pro ($30) and MPEG Streamclip (free) complement each other. In many cases one can do things that the other cannot. For instance, MPEG Stramclip can handle/edit multiplexed formats while QT Pro cannot. QT Pro allows layering of data tracks while Streamclip does not. Streamclip merges file streams more easily than QT Pro but QT Pro allows the "Movie to MPEG-4" export to "passthrough" the video while Streamsclip does not. And so on and so forth...
I was referring to the mpegs from the Sony camera, of which a have hundreds, shot in the last 3 or 4 years, mainly from my 5-year old daughter. Is the above true to these?

By "sony camera," are you referring to a still digital camera (multiplexed MPEG-1) or a Sony video camcorder taking MPEG-4/AVCHD with AC3 audio in an MPEG wrapper, a Sony DVD/HDD camera storing some kind of MPEG-2/AC3 files. On a Mac, the extension MPG normally refers multiplexed MPEG-1 (or MPEG-1 audio layer) files while MPEG normally refers to multiplexed MPEG-2 video content with MPEG-1, layer 2 audio (MPEG2/MP2) but may also refer to files with MP3 or AC3 files in an MPEG, VOB, or TS wrapper. In addition it may loosely refer to elementary M2V video streams (M2V video file paired with a separate AIFF or AC3 file), a standard MPEG4/AAC file (in an MOV or MP4 wrapper) or a standard H.264/AAC file in MOV, MP4, or M4V wrapper). Why can't I add audio to my slide show from my itunes in elements 11?

I am trying to make a slide show using my newly purchased photoshop elements 11 and I cannot get it to add any audio. It does not recognize any of my files. I know there must be a way to do this but cannot figure it out.

Not copy protection unless these are very old purchases that you never updated. First try eliminating the album artwork, which often solves this.

I think this link will offer some good insight. I would recommend moving the library to an external HD if you are already using iPhoto on your MBP. If you do decide to move the library directly to your MBP just make sure you are using a different enough name for it that your MBP can easily locate each library independently.

No - if Quality is important AND You want a DVD as result - no iMovie'08 to 11 can handle or export - Interlaced SD-Video to any DVD authoring program - When going from Event's to Project every second line in the Picture is lost and this will be a noticeable quality loss in the final DVD
YES - If You don't want a DVD -
• Just start a new Project
• Import Photos from Media button / Photos
• Insert transition of choice
• Insert Audio at Your liking - I convert all to .aiff and not use any .mp3 or from iTunes directly (converted they work OK)
If DVD - Then use
• iMovie HD6 - or -
• FinalCut any version
• FotoMagico™
• iDVD - BUT this is limited in several ways
- max 99 photos per show
- one transition possibly
- audio - one audio tract (but this can be created outside iDVD to contain more than one tune

Problem burning audio portion of slide show to dvd

Any help would be deeply appreciated: I have created a slide show with over 180 pictures, multiple transitions, Ken Burns affects and background music from cd's that I have purchased. The slide show plays perfectly when previewed in iPhoto but when I try to burn it to a DVD by sending it to iDVD the video portion transfers perfectly but only the first song is copied and the remaining 4 songs are dropped. The same thing will happen if I Export the slide show to my desk top and try and preview it. If I initially start in iDVD and try to make a slide show I can only transfer about 90 slides. I know I can start in iMovie and create a slide show by pulling in photos but the selection of transitions is much more limited than in iPhoto. I have spoken with multiple Apple technicians with many suggestions, none have worked. The last technician stated that this was a recognized problem with iLife '05 and there was no solution available at this time. I'm hoping he was wrong!

Welcome to discussions.
You can get the songs you rip from your CD to export into iTunes by the following:
1. iTunes - Pref - Advanced - Import. Change import using to MP3.
Now all new songs you rip from CD will export with iPhoto
To correct those songs already in iTunes so they will export, do the following:
1. highlight song in iTunes Library
2. Toolbar go to Advanced - Click Convert Selection to MP3
3.Now you will have a duplicate of that song in your library. The one just added that you converted, add MP3 to title
4.Use MP3 song in your slide show.
5. Audio should export with photos.
Post back and let me know if this works for you. It does for me. You cannot change songs imported from iTunes this way; it will only work on songs from your CD. We will have to wait for updates for a permanent fix.

The easiest way is to use iDVD; however, Apple doesn't bundle that with new Macs and you can't buy it from the App Store. It is apparently still available on iLife disks, but you'd want to check the label.
iPhoto will create a nice slideshow which can be converted to a movie. Then you will need something like iDVD or Toast to create the DVD. http://support.apple.com/kb/VI195
As you say you are new to Macs, I don't imagine you have an old copy of iDVD on another Mac.

Yesm you can select the object containing the photo thumbnails, copy it and paste it into a blank page but don't see why you would need to. You need to use the photo page in order to create the slideshow.
There are other ways to have a slideshow, most using javascript like these examples;
Jalbum
SimpleViewer and Flash Album Exporter
Flash Album Exporter Postcard and AutoViewer Slideshow Themes.
They can be inserted into any iweb page except for the photo or album pages.

thank you for getting back to me.
The slide show works fine, including sound, from within Organizer. It
also works fine when I export it as a video. Just PDF isn't working.
In the meantime, from various contributions in the forum, I gather that,
unfortunately, the Organizer (just like Lightroom) simply does not
support adding music to PDF slide shows. Apparently, there is a way to
do that using Acrobat Pro (only costs 640 Euros).
You may consider my question answered.

I have scanned most of my pictures into the Photo gallery set up. I was trying to make a slide show for my family . My side and than my husbands side. I had one set of old pictures completed as a slide show. The second set is almost complete. I have lost most of the first slide show pictures. The second set I cannot finish adding the remainder of the pictures . A box appears and says "error number 9". I don't know what happened. What does this mean? How did the pictures get lost from the slide show?
Do you know the amount of hours it took to do the scanning? Vista doesn't make it easy. One picture at a time.

Or in PSE make the timings and transitions match the music track.

Why can't I hear the audio for my slide show outside of PSE 9?

I have prepared a slide show with audio in Photoshop Elements 9. It plays fine within the PSE 9 viewer, both slides and audio. However, when I try to view it on Windows Media Player, the audio does not play, though the slide show does. I am also interested in playing the slide show on my TV through a DVD player. I have converted the slide show with audio to an avi format using Free Make to allow this. Again, the slide show plays, but the audio does not. Anyone have an idea of what I am doing wrong? What codec is your audio encoded with—what is the extension on the file, and what bitrate is the audio? Some of this information might be visible if you do a right-click Properties -> Details on the file in Windows Explorer.
It sounds like PSE9 has a private codec that can play it, but the Windows system, in general, doesn’t have a codec to support it. AVI is just an envelope for the existing video and audio. If the audio is using a non-supported codec, then wrapping it in a AVI won’t help. The audio needs to be something more universal. I’d guess that a fixed, moderate bit-rate MP3 would be supported, whereas a FLAC or very high or possibly a variable-rate bit rate MP3 wouldn’t be as universally supported.
