Audio malfunction in iMovie 9.0.2 upgrade

Up graded to 10.6.6 snow leopard and 9.0.2 iMovie now half the existing audio tracks wont work in my current project. NEW tracks I import wont work either. When I start a NEW project everything seems to work.
Did I corrupt my project w/ the upgrade?
Any way to get the audio tracks to work again w/out starting anew and losing 22 hours of labor?
Any help would be DEEPLY appreciated

Try deleting iMovie's preference file. This often fixes things when iMovie is misbehaving.
The file is named "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist" and is located in your User (Home) Library>Preferences folder. Quit iMovie if it is open then drag the .plist file to the Trash. When next opened iMovie will automatically create a new preference file with the default settings. You may need to change some settings to suit your own preference. To do this, go to iMovie's menu and select iMovie>Preferences then make your preferred settings in each of the tabs.
The preference file can become corrupted in some circumstances, such as when iMovie quits unexpectedly. Deleting the file is usually the first troubleshooting thing to try. See this Apple article for more information about iLife Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3249
Hope this helps!

  • How can i detach the video from a clip so i can only use the audio when using imovie?

how can i detach the video from a clip so i can only use the audio when using imovie?

First, go to iMovie/Preferences and enable the Advanced Tools.
Import the video clip into an iMovie Event. When you get ready to use it in an iMovie Project, select the clip in the Event and drag & drop it on top of a video or photo clip in the project at the place where you want it to begin. When the pop-up menu appears, choose Audio Only.

Thanks for that info! Even in my time answering questions on iMovie Discussion Group, I never had a good understanding of when and how Optimize Movie came into play. I always would import as Optimized and Large Size and figured that was good enough. But knowing you got much, much more flexibility doing it the way you describe gives me a much better understanding of the different routes you can take into the Event Library.

  • I somehow lost my iMovie app when I upgraded to Snow Leopard

I bought my MBP in late 2008. Leopard was installed on it, and it came with iMovie. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard, I can't seem to find iMovie.
So after spending $26 to upgrade to Snow Leopard, do I have to spend $75 to buy iLife to get iMovie?

use the Installer Disks, your MBP came with, to re-install all apps.

  • How do I add a quicktime (10.0) audio track to imovie (8.0.6)?

I would like to add a quicktime (10.0) audio track to imovie (8.0.6). The audio is in .mov format. When I go to import it, it is grey and will not allow me to click on it.  I tried to put it into itunes and select it from there but I can't figure out how.

You might have more success converting it into an AIFF file.
Try this: Download MPEG Streamclip, it's a free utility that allows you to do a lot of different conversions on audio and video clips. What we're going to to try is save an AIFF to 48kHz and re-import it into iMovie and see if there's a difference.
Once you download MPEG Streamclip, open it and go to File Menu> Open Files... and navigate out to your AIFF file. Make sure the drop down list at the bottom of the window has All Files listed (instead of just Audio or just Video). If you don't show all files, it will gray out files it doesn't recognize. Once you have your audio clip selected, click Open.
From the File Menu > Export Audio... choose AIFF and under Sample rate: choose 48kHz. Click OK
Save the clip to the Desktop, maybe give it a different name (say #2 added to the end).  Quit MPEG Streamclip. In iMovie drag your new AIFF file to the project timeline.

  • Improving audio quality in iMovie 4

I'm editing a video which has an audio track that consists of interviews, some recorded next to a busy street. Is there a way to clean up the track and take out the ambient noise? Note that I'm using the (antique) iMovie 4.0. Also, there is a variation in the audio levels between scenes. How do I correct for that? Thanks!

First thing you want to do is repost this to the proper group which can be found here...
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=855
You posted this into the iMovie '08 group.
But to sort of answer your question, you can not do a whole lot of audio editing within iMovie other than volume adjustments to all of it, cutting, pasting, etc. If you want to do real audio editing to try and scrub out audio noise, you will need to do that outside of iMovie in other audio programs. I can not recommend any myself from first hand experience.
To get your video audio, simply put your clips on the timeline, select them all, then do an Extract Audio command. This will mute the original audio then make COPIES of just the audio track on the timeline. Those copies can be found in the media folder of your project and you can now take those audio files and work with them in other programs.
You might start with some free ones like Audacity.

  • Facebook has challenged the copyright of a movie using iMovie audio. Am i allowed to share movies made using audio clips from iMovie?, Facebook has challenged the copyright of a movie using iMovie audio

Facebook has challenged the copyright of a movie using iMovie audio. Am i allowed to share movies made using audio clips from iMovie?

Just curious as to why it's coming up as a copyright violation?
Hard to say.  I think FaceBook errs on the side of abundance caution when they detect anything that sounds like music.
It's also possible to that people use samples of various pieces of iLife audio contest to create a piece of work that they then copyright.

  • Separate audio tracks in iMovie?

I recorded my movie with separate voice and background audio tracks. When I import it into iMovie, it's just a single audio file. Is there any way to separate the audio files within iMovie?

    Hi
How do You record ? With what Camera ?
    • 2 Stereo tracks - one with background one with voice ?
    • 2 x 2 Stereo -
    • 5:1 audio
    • 7:1 audio
iMovie can use ONE Stereo Audio track.
To get audio OK I use
    • Audacity (free from Internet) or
    • GarageBand - where I can also do Audio works
BTW - to get full freedom - Use FinalCut Pro

  • Why did I lose audio in my iMovie?

I've been working on a video project using the new iMovie version 10.0. The video I imported had no audio track. I've been recording audio directly into iMovie from a microphone, and while I was adjusting where the clips were to go, they played just fine, but now there is no saudio at all in the project. I've been able to play things from the sound effects library by themselves, but when dragging them into the project, they are totally muted.  What is going on?  Help!

You have not provided the slightest bit of Hard information for anyone to help you.

  • Garage Band 3 audio into to Imovie HD?

I am not able to export Garage Band 3 audio saved for use in a podcast into iMovie 6.0.1. I would think that this would be possible because both are part of the iLife Suite. Does anyone know any way to get Garage Band audio into an iMovie? Specifically, I am trying to get a recorded voice from Garage Band into iMovie.
    Thanks,
    Lou

Thanks for the help. Importing into iTunes worked as you suggested. I don't know what I was thinking - - when I saw import to iTunes I thought, mistakenly for some dumb reason, that my track would automatically go to the iTunes music store if I saved to iTunes. I MUST get more sleep.

  • How to get audio back into iMovie in sync

I have an iMovie project made up of around 40 clips. I want to adjust the audio "on the fly" because the iMovie normalize does not work across clips (and none of the work arounds posted work). Not to mention the rubber band from previous iMovies has been taken away. I know how to extract audio from a QT movie and open it in Logic Express or Garage band to adjust the sound. But how do you get it back IN to the original movie and be in sync? I tried it and the audio came back shorter. I could shoot whomever at Apple removed the rubber band audio adjustment from iMovie. That was an inexcusable and callous move. How do I get the movie back in place after I've adjusted it? Thanks.

You cannot sync anything back to the camera roll.
The camera roll is where pics/vids are stored temporarily until you get them imported into your computer. Camera roll is not a good place to "store" pics/vids. You should always import them as soon as you can and back them up so you don't lose them.
You can then sync them back to your photo gallery (pics) and your ipod video section ( for videos).

  • Multi audio editing ipad imovie

I'm making a video that contains both pictures and video footage.  in this video I have a song and I wanted to know how to change the volume of the track at certain points. for example, when the picture is on, I want the volume to be high, and when there is a video going on I want the song to have a lower volume so I can hear the audio of the video and not the song.  is this even possible to do? because when I try to adjust the volume of the song, it does it for the whole footage.

You cannot adjust parts of music.
But if a clip has audio turned on iMovie automatically lowers the music track so you can hear the clip.
If the music is over a photo it is higher.
That sadly is the only thing it does with audio.
You could get Avid for iPad.
It has much better audio controls.

  • Trimming an audio track in iMovie Hd

Please help me on this one. How do you trimmed an audio track on iMovie Hd? The track is about 3 minutes and a half and I want to delete about the last 30 seconds of the track. How can I do that? Please respond as soon as possible. Thanks

    Hi Greg:
I am assuming you are talking about a seperate audio track in your iMovie and not audio in the actual original video tape...
Simply click on the piece of audio you want to change to highlight it blue.
Then place your Playhead at the spot where you want to split it so that you can trim off the last 30 second.
    Use Edit-->Split at Playhead
Then click on the new little piece at the end that you want to get rid of and highlight it.
Then, either hit 'delete' or extract audio.
    Then SAVE the project.
    That will do it.
Comr back if i have confused you.

  • *** is up with the audio problem in iMovie '11?

Okay.  This is ridiculous.  What is the deal with the audio issues in iMovie '11?  I am working on a short film. I insert audio files for streets sounds, door sounds, etc.  some work, some don't.  I converted .wav files to .aif files.  Still nothing.  I updated my OS and updated my iMovie to the latest versions.  Still nothing.  Why are the sounds there one second then gone a minute later?

    Great.
Gkad you got it figured out.
