Audio missing from imported videos?

I am fairly new to using iMovie, so please bear with me if I have no idea what I am talking about!
Audio is fine when I playback videos in Quicktime prior to import, but once imported to iMovie, there's no sound. I haven't changed my methodology at all, and this used to work, then one day, no dice. The only thing I can think of, is that I was "experimenting" one day, and selected "Extract Audio" from the right-click drop down menu. Now that option is greyed out. I have a feeling this is my problem, and that I somehow activated something. Any ideas how to "de-activate" it??
Thanks in advance!

Well, I went back and tried your advice. The conversion to .dv went fine, and when I imported that file into iMovie, voila, there was audio! But alas, once I added my title slide, and exported as Quicktime, audio was once again gone. Sigh. Any more advice would be so appreciated...

  • Some audio missing from imported video clip

I use FRAPS to record some of my game play.  I recently recorded some game play and when I watched it using windows media player I can hear all audio recorded (game sounds, my mic, and teamspeak).  When I import into Premiere Elements 11 the teamspeak audio is missing.  You can't hear it at all.  Is this a feature that I have to enable/disable in Premiere Elements?

  • Why is audio missing from MP4 video?

    I am using - - Adobe Premiere Elements 10, Windows OS7
I have 11GBs of high quality (1.5GB = 15 min) mp4 video clips and I would like to edit and burn a couple of DVDs. When I import the clips they look fine, but there is no audio. (Yes, I have audio elsewhere on my computer and can hear these clips when I use any other player.)
I tried converting them to .avi with Format Factory and I *can* hear them when I import to Adobe, but they are now "frozen" or "jumpy" and it is very difficult to navigate through the clips because the Play/Pause button has quite a time lag before responding.
Should I convert to some other format? I'd like to keep as much quality as possible. I did convert them all to VOBs and made a "test" disc, but it dropped 11GB down so low that it will all fit on a 4.7GB disc. I'd rather make 2 discs and keep the quality up (though the one I made looks and sounds pretty good).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Let me recap to make sure we are in sync on this.
Knowing what you started with and the video properties as they evolve through needed conversion....
You come telling us and demonstrating to us that you have source video
    AVCHD.mp4 (1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 frames per second) and that has MPEG1 audio.
When you import that into Premiere Elements 10 Windows, you get video but no audio.
The destination for that Timeline is NTSC_Widescreen Dolby DVD.
In terms of setting the correct project settings, it would be important to know if you have
interlaced or progressive video. But, since you not hear audio at that point, more
    important/pressing things to pursue.
Aside from the pressing audio issue, at this point the choice of project preset would still be
NTSC/AVCHD/Full HD1080i30 (if you have interlaced video)
    or
NTSC/DSLR/1080p/DSLR 1080p30@ 29.97 (if you have progressive video).
Either way, we need a 1920 x 1080 frame size project preset to match the 1920 x 1080 frame size of your source so that
when you are in the Edit area you can edit your video in the correct space there. The final export setting is another matter. You
should not be using a NTSC DV Widescreen project preset for a 1920 x 1080 video import.
AVCHD.mp4 with MPEG1 audio (no Premiere Elements sound) to ????.avi with ???? audio (unstable in Premiere Elements but with sound)
Conversion of the problem file sounds like a reasonable next step. And, you indicate that you do convert
to an ".avi" file which has then has audio with the video in Premiere Elements 10, but the file is highly
unstable in Premiere Elements 10. But, when I ask what video compression goes with the .avi wrapper, you
    wrote
I just drag/drop the files to "Convert All to (whatever)" and the software does it.
All .avi files are not created equal. And, AVCHD.avi, if that is what you ended up with, is highly unstable, and for most will
not import into Premiere Elements. So, now the pressing questions include:
    a. what is the video compression and audio compression and other properties of this .avi file with the stability problems in Premiere Elements 10
    b. again, what are you setting as the project preset to match the properties specific to the source .avi.
    Now back to the present
If you use Format Factory you should have control over your conversion settings. AVCHD.mp4 is a stable format for Premiere Elements. I suspect that the MPEG1 is problem. So, we agree conversion is the way.
I would suggest taking the time to set the settings for your converter so that you produce AVCHD.mp4 (1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second) and use AAC Stereo for the audio. Then bring that file into Premiere Elements 10 with the project preset of
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30@ 29.97
and proceed, ending with the Share/Disc/DVD disc with preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
Since this project is destined for DVD-VIDEO widescreen on DVD, you could use your converter to produce NTSC DV AVI Widescreen and then import that into a Premiere Elements 10 project with the project preset =
    NTSC
    DV Widescreen
and proceed, ending with the Share/Disc/DVD disc with preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
As for disc capacity, the standard DVD disc 4.7 GB/120 minutes is in reality 4.38 GB. And the DVD disc double layer single sided 8.5 GB/240 minutes is in reality 7.38 GB. When you get to the burn dialog Quality Area (just before you hit Burn), look to see the values for Space Required and Bitrate (have a check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space"). If you see a Bitrate reading below the max 8.00 Mbps, then go to the DVD double layer single sided disc or use two DVD standard discs.
Do your intended viewers have players that support playback of DVD double layer single sided discs?
    Please review.
I will try to make the reply not so long next time. I wanted to cover all the bases this time.
We will be watching for your progress.
Any quesitons or need clarification on anything, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Audio missing from imported QuickTime Movie

I imported a mpeg off my cybershot. the audio is loud and clear in iPhoto and again when clicking to play the same file in QuickTime. I was trying to create a smaller file to email and post on the web - imported it to iMovie (iWeb suggests "use iMovie's QT web export settings to reduce file size"). But after importing file, there is no audio. Apple "Help Topics" suggest checking to see if the movie is MPEG Muxed 1 or 2. It in fact is, but there is no further suggestion on how to overcome this problem of no audio in iMovie/QT.
    Please help! Thanks!

I'm sure that this is basic but I can't figure it out. Can you please walk me through how to complete this process and convert the files??

  • Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

    haben
From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30)  or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
    a constant frame rate?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
    Thank you.

Hope all this suggests a solution...
    Thanks for your help, all...
    T

Thanks for all this information, T.
So why are you editing a 1440x1080 video in a 1920x1080 project? If this is AVCHD footage, it's very important to use the right project settings.
That has no effect on your audio, of course. But it could affect your video quality when you output your file.
That say, can you explain what you mean by "Audio missing from save project"?
Do you mean that you don't hear the audio in Premiere Elements -- or that you don't hear it when you output, say, an MOV or WMV file?
What file format are you exporting and what are you playing soundless this file on?
And, finally, is there no audio whatsoever, or is only some audio (music, for instance) missing from your output?

  • "Sync All Movies" option is missing from the Videos tab.

    Hi,
I just imported 453 short movie clips (totaling around 1.8 GB) into iTunes and now I want to synchronize them to my iPhone. I noticed that the option to "Sync All Movies" as found in previous versions of iTunes or perhaps only enabled for other devices is missing from the Videos tab under my iPhone's sync options. Is Apple seriously suggesting that I have to manually check off 453 boxes in a list box that only displays 10 items vertically at a time? I'm at a loss for words.
If there's any way I can have iTunes automatically do this, please let me know. Here's a screenshot of the feature in question, MIA for me:
    http://www.info.apple.com/images/kbase/304680/syncmovies.jpg
    Thanks.

My mistake, apparently shift clicking one item selects them all. I was trying to do the Windows CTRL + A shortcut (which works in the Library view but not in the list box of Videos to sync).
I guess that makes me a typical Windows user.

  • Audio problem when importing video files.

    Hello everyone,
I just started using FCP X a few days ago for a university project and I seem to encounter an audio problem when importing videos in .mp4, .mov format or via the import from camera option.
Indeed I need to import videos in .mp4 and .mov format into FCP X. The import in itself is normal I can see my videos into the events/clips library and if I play them from the library I can hear the sound quite perfectly.
However, when I want to edit my videos and put it in the timeline, there is no audio. As a result I started to think that my videos could be the problem so I tried the option "import from camera" option using the Isight camera of my macbook pro but the same things happened. I could hear the sound from the events/clips library but not from the timeline (I can't see any audiowaves in the timeline).
I found a solution using quicktime and extracting the audio of the video in .m4a then importing the videos files and the audi files corresponding but it's a long process and a waste of time  as FCP X should be able to import the audio of my video into the timeline directly. Especially if it can read it from events/clips library.
I hope I explained myself clearly and you could help me resolve my problem.
    Cheers
    Christophe
    PS: I'm using FCP X version 10.0

    Update to 10.0.5.
You have an incorrect setting when you edit. Try trashing your preferences. Post screen shots of your timeline and toolbar.

  • Why is audio missing from movie

why is audio missing from movie

I think I may have confused you a little bit, sorry.  Hope this might be easier to follow.
    1.  Copied nieces VHS tape to DVD discs.  Tape runs approximately 2hr. 39min.
    2.  Put first part on work copy 1.  This consisted of the lead up to the ceremony and the ceremony itself, ending with still shots of the wedding party, in the park.  About 1hr. 1min.
    3.  Put second part on work copy 2.  This consisted of the wedding reception, beginning to end.  About 1hr 38min.  No possibility of overlapping content.
    4.  Ran both work copy 1 and work copy 2 on the VCR that's hooked up to the TV.  (Not the Toshiba copy machine).  Both ran through, beginning to end with no glitches.
    5.  Opened Adobe Premiere Elements and loaded work copy #1 so as to make three finished copies, one for bride and groom, one for bride's parents, one for groom's parents.
    6.  When placed on the timeline, contents of work copy 1 had no audio for VTS_01_1.VOB while VTS_01_2.VOB and VTS_01_3.VOB were whole.
    7.  Tried for several days to eliminate the problem with no success.  A.P.E. showed file sizes of .99GB, .99GB and 47MB respectively.  The 47MB is actually about 2 minutes of still pictures of       the wedding party.  I was not going to attempt to burn the project until correcting the audio problem.
    8.  Wrote in to the community forum and happily received your response.  Tried every thing you offered without success.  Though I am thankful for all your time and effort.  While nothing worked       so far, I have learned a few things and will retain my notes so as to keep this information at hand.  (Don't know how you're able to maintain all that info).
    9.  At this point, in view of the results of step #4, I thought to try Windows DVD Maker to see what developed.  Loaded work copy 1 into that program, which recognized the audio in the first clip       (VTS_01_1.VOB).  I did not run the work copy, beginning to end, in this program.  But I felt that as long as the audio was present in the first clip, this program would allow me to burn the           copy.  When the burn button was pushed, I received the error message "Will Not Fit", and the duration of 30 min for clip 1, 30 min. for clip 2 and 25 hours and 30 min. for clip 3.  Clip 3 being       the 2 minutes of still pictures.  After trying unsuccessfully to remedy this problem it was time to try a different approach.
    10.  Opened A.P.E. and loaded work copy 2 onto the timeline.  Successfully made three finished copies of this disk in a short period of time.
    11.  Took the VHS tape back to the Toshiba to make another copy (work copy 1A) of the first segment.
    12.  Played copy 1A in the TVs VCR and it played fine, no glitches.
    13.  Opened A.P.E. and put work copy 1A on the Timeline.  This time there was audio in clip 1, which could be seen on the audio line, but it was the audio from work copy 2.  This, even though       I had deleted the files from work copy 2.
    14.  Accepted the fact that this has become a career.  Can't imagine what you're thinking.  Since beginning this endeavor I have become much older and grouchier.  My dog will no longer walk         with me.  Neighbors go back in the house when they see me coming.  Oh, and my wife sticks out her tongue and makes funny noises whenever I turn my back.

  • After a UPSA connection edit, all my user profiles are "missing from import"

    Hi there,
I've got a problem with my User Profile Service Application. I edited my existing connection to add some new OU containers to the list, after the networks team had done some
restructuring to reflect an organizational change. Then I ran a Full Synchronization. But now all of my user profiles show up under the "Missing from Import" list. I still have 943 profiles in SharePoint, and not surprisingly, people search isn't
working. I suspect that I did something wrong in the process of selecting the Users OU containers in the AD tree (in Populate Containers), but I cannot see what, since I replicated the selections that had been made for an unchanged department, to
the ones that had been reorganized.
    Any help appreciated.
    Tom
SharePoint Systems Officer, Capital Regional District, BC, Canada

    Hi  Tom ,
According to your description, my understanding is that all the user profiles are showing up under "Profiles missing from import" list after you edited the existing User Profile Synchronization
    Connection.
For your issue, it can be caused by that your User Profile Synchronization Connection is unable to connect to  your AD. Please make sure  the account used to connect to Active Directory to import
profiles has access to the Organizational Unit you are importing from. By default this account is the Default Content Access account. And the Default Content Access account  must be a domain user account and it must have read access to external or secure
content sources that you want to crawl by using this account.
Then you need to check if the “Profile Synchronization” job status is “succeed”.
Also please check the “Sync filter” for the service, and make sure the account are not include in the Exclusion Filter for Users.
For a workaround, you can just delete the existing connection , recreate it and perform a full synchronization.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • How do I seperate the audio track from the video and save it to a CD in Premiere Elements 13?

How do I seperate the audio track from the video and save it to a CD in Premiere Elements 13?

    Binbashi
You can separate the audio track from video and save it to a DVD disc within Premiere Elements but not a CD disc.
To do save to the audio to DVD disc, you do not have to separate linked audio video, just use the export Publish+Share/Computer/Audio and set Presets to the wanted format (AAC, AIFF, MP3, or Windows Waveform (WAV).
You will not see Audio in the choices since it is at the bottom of the list of choices under Publish+Share/Computer/. You will need to use the thin scroll bar to the right of the choices to scroll to it.
If you need information on selective export of Timeline content when dealing with more than just this one file on the Timeline, please let us know. If you are trying to produce a CD for listening in car or CD player elsewhere, please let us know.
Looking forward to learning of your results.
    Thank you.

The sound is missing from my videos.  How do I restore.  This does not seem to be part of the settings.

Either what Klaus 1 suggested or turn off Full Screen mode if you are running Lion. You can toggle Full screen by holding down Command - Shift - F.
If you are running Snow Leopard as your profile indictates (my mistake for not looking) then please disregard my post.

    Sure.
Choose Share>Export Using QuickTime.  Then select Sound to AIFF from the Export dropdown menu.
The resulting will be an audio only AIFF file.  The Sound to AU or Wave work in the same way and will create audio files of those file types.

  • Remove audio from imported video

    Hi guys!
Tried to search for this feature, but did not find anything on it.
Is it possible to remove the audio from an imported video clip (FLV) in Captivate 5.5? I want to replace it with another recording.
    Thanks,
    Victor

    Hi,
This is not possible inside Captivate tool. But you can achieve the same using 'Adobe Media Encoder' tool (AME) which gets installed as a part of Captivate installation.
    1. Launch AME and insert the FLV file
    2. Go to output format settings and look for "Export options"
    3. uncheck the "Audio" option
    4. Start the encoding process to get a newly encoded FLV file.
You can use this in your Captivate projects and then add a new audio file as per your needs.
    Hope this helps.

  • Audio from imported video

I have been trying to import prerecorded taped video from my camera into clips in Imovie but only the video is coming through with no audio. Is there something that has to be done to make sure the audio also gets imported?

... I believe Quicktime Pro can handle these ...
sorry to correct you, J, (allthough you give excellent advices so far...):
QTpro will convert the video-only of a mpeg... (loss of audio)
for converting AND demuxxing, you need 3rd party tools.
mostly recommended here, is the combo of mpeg2-plugin from apple.com (20$), plus the free tool Streamclip
for beginners, the other option is a very Mac-like app:
    DVD2DV (25/80$)
