Audio Monitoring during Log & Capture

New user here and just setting things up. I'm able to hear audio after I have captured a clip but cannot hear/monitor audio during logging. What am I missing here? BTW - using onboard iMac speakers and headphone jack for monitoring.

I have the same problem and its driving me crazy! I don't think it is supposed to work this way, especially if you have 8 cores worth of processing power. More than enough to view and listen during capture and log review process.
Here is my situation:
Camera: Sony HC7
Connection: Firewire
Video Setting on Camera: HDV 1080i60 with 16 bit 48hz Audio
Program: Final Cut Studio Pro 2
During Log and Capture Preview (HDV settings) there is not an option to turn audio on although you can view the sound bars moving just fine. I have not been able to find any documentation that say FCP does not allow you to listen to audio during preview. I think this is a bug or at least an option that FCP should allow the user to turn-on or turn off.
My question is this: Should it be working? And if so, why not? And if its not allowed then Why Doesn't the documentation say so????? I've noticed that if you're capturing from standard DV devices that you elect to turn the audio on/off.
Like this post, if I capture it into the application then everything works just fine and the audio is there.
Please help. Thanks

  • Multibridge Pro no audio monitoring during capture

I cannot get audio monitoring during capture, from betacam (component) or dv, I tried everything I can think of, does anybody else is running to the same problem?
(running mac pro, plenty of ram, Os version 10.5.2, decklink software 6.6.2, FCP 6.0.2)
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I tried to reboot the multibridge many but to no avail. Regarding the monitoring, I do not really care about monitoring the upload, but I want to be able to log the clip via final cut, and it should work, however it does not.
Also I wanted to know if users of the multibridge have issues with the video levels? I just switch from a HD Decklink card and the difference in level is not right, the multibridge is much to bright. Any suggestions?

  • How can I turn OFF audio monitoring during capture from tape?

FCP has a very useful check box that allows you to turn off audio monitoring during capture, so you can listen to other things whilst the batch captures.  Is there any way to do this in PP?  If not, how can I make a feature request?
    I'm using PP CS6.
    Thanks for any help.
    Dominic

The only other solution I can offer is to go to "edit" "preferences" then select "playback". Under playback set the default audio device to your capturing device instead of the adobe desktop audio. This will allow you capture but not have to listen to whats being captured. However once it's done capturing you'll have to set it back to adobe desktop audio otherwise you can't hear what you're editing in your timeline.
Other than that I'm out of ideas sorry.

  • Hmc150 Video files disappear or aren't imported during Log & Capture

I'm having a terrible problem when importing video clips using Log & Capture on FCExpress.
The clips are on 5 different SDHC cards, recorded on a hmc150.
Some clips appear just fine. But when I search for clips after the import only about half of them are there. Also FCE is naming each clip in chronological order, often replacing previously captured clips. This results in no order.
I cannot trust that my computer uploaded what it says is there.
I'm using a 17" MacBook Pro with intel. And saving my clips on an external harddrive. Plenty of RAM. Plenty of storage space.
Why is FCE spacing out?? Could it be the card reader?

I am experiencing the same thing (I think).
I'm running a Mac Pro with FCE 4.0.1 and a Sony HDD HD Camcorder. I'm importing from a saved copy of the Camcorder's HDD (running from a local HDD). I'm importing about 2000 clips, and about 3/4 of the way in, clips look like they're importing fine, but are not showing up in the Clips list. Then I go back and see that instead of adding new clips, it was actually over-writing other clips that I had imported earlier in the same Log & Transfer process.
It's frustrating, and has happened multiple times, with different groupings of clips. There is then a lot of backtracking because there is no date/time metadata in the imported clips.
Any help would be appreciated, or if it is a known and unresolved issue, it would be nice just to know I'm not crazy.
    Thanks.

  • Audio Monitoring During Capture

I have a Mac Mini (2.66GHz; 4GB RAM; 500GB HD) with FCE installed. I can capture with no problem and have audio, too. The problem is that I can't hear the audio when I capture. I have done it before but I can not remember how/what to select to get this "turned on." Help!
    Thanks y'all!

    Tully,
You really couldn't have heard the audio +from FCE+ during capture. FCE has never done it. You may have heard the audio from the speaker in your camcorder, but not through FCE.
In your last post, however, you indicated that after capturing the clip you can't hear the audio. Is that the problem?

  • Strange Audio Rate During PAL Capture

I am capturing and doing work with a number of PAL tapes. While capturing footage, I am continually getting an audio sample rate of 47999.6 Hz rather than 48.0 KHz on captures that are long, like an entire tape. I can, if I capture shorter clips, get 48KHz with no problem from the same tapes. When I try to edit with the 47999.6 Hz files, the audio gets progressively more and more out of sync throughout the clip. If I try to output the audio as an .AIF and use Peak Pro to convert it to a 48Khz file and bring it back into FCP, the audio file is shorter than it was and starts in syns but again progressively out of sync. Can anyone explain what is causing the video to come in at 47999.6 and what I might be able to do to prevent it? And if not, any ideas of how I can workaround the issue to make it work?
    Thanks!

So what your saying is that even though FCP is set to capture at a rate of DV NTSC 48k, it would still capture what ever signal format that is being sent to it as that original format? IE, if we feed a an audio signal as 96k, FCP would capture the signal as 96k even though our capture presets instruct FCP to capture as 48k? Same would apply to a video signal then? If we fed a DVC50 signal to FCP, it would capture as that despite presets set to NTSC DV?? FCP will not convert formats during capture from a non controlled device?

  • How Do I Change The Number Of Default Audio Channels for Log & Capture

We just upgraded from FCS 1 to FCS 2. And, at the same time we upgraded from Kona II le cards to Kona IIIs. Here's the problem: we work almost exclusively with digital-based video formats where the audio is encoded into the video signal. Something with this new set-up appears to be causing FCP to "assume" that there are 16 audio channels coming into the project (I'm guessing because the Kona set-up offers "16 channel embedded audio" as the only embedded format). Worse, there doesn't appear to be any way to tell FCP to change the default. In fact, the only apparent way to change the number of tracks being ingested is to go in and manually turn off all 14 of the unwanted audio tracks. It gets to be VERY time consuming. There's got to be an easier way of resetting the default tracks.
    Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for the responses, guys. I guess I wasn't really all that clear. Something to do with FCP 6 and the Kona III card is telling FCP to set up each project with 16 channels of audio - and ONLY 16 channels of audio. Anywhere that there is a drop-down or check box, the drop-down or check box is either grayed out or only provides choices centered around 16 channels of audio. So, for example, let's say I go to the "Capture Presets" tab under "Audio/Video Settings" and click on "Edit" to modify the current preset. Under "QuickTime Audio Settings," I select "AJA Kona" as my device. Then, under the "Format" drop-down, I have four possible audio formats to choose from - ALL of them showing 16 channels (e.g. - "48.000 khz 24-bit 16-channel"). Nowhere is there an option of selecting, say "48.000 khz 24-bit 2-channel." Everything under every tab specifies 16-channel. So, as a result, I can't tell it to disable the fourteen tracks that I'll NEVER use. I even tried starting with the "Generic" settings tab, used to create your own presets, and even that would ONLY allow me 16-channels - and I couldn't over-ride it!
So far, the only way I've found to work around this is to manually go in and turn off the little green nodes indicating which audio track(s) you don't want to capture. The problem is, every time I have to do this, I'm manually turning of FOURTEEN audio channels.
    Hope this helps clarify...

  • Audio distortion during/after capture in Premiere Elements10

Why is the audio distorted (sounds like a cell phone that keeps losing a signal and every other word is garbled) when capturing a video from a DV camcorder in Premiere Elements10? I'm using a IEEE 1394 cable from the camcorder to the computer and DV camcorder is selected in the Premiere Elements setup menu. Any help.........please!

Capturing from a tape-based miniDV does not change the audio or video information in any way, Unkie. So if you're capturing from a miniDV camcorder and getting distortion, that distortion is happening in the camcorder itself.
But if you're getting distortion when you output your video, it could well be because your audio levels are too high.
As I say in my books, whenever you edit your video, you should go to the Window menu and open the Audio Mixer. Watch your audio levels as you play back your timeline. They should peak at Zero. If they're up in the yellow and red or are overloading the mixer, you are going to get distortion in your video output.
But if you're saying you're hearing distortion while capturing your video -- that's a whole other issue. You need to adjust your computer's audio levels or turn down your speakers. As I've said, capturing over FireWire does absolutely nothing to change the audio or video information that's coming in from the camcorder. It's just your computer playing it too loud.

  • No Audio during Log and Capture

Hello, I have FCP 6.0 and am unable to hear my audio during log and capture. I have this problem on all 5 G5 Macs that I have, and have tried different editing docks and cables. I have used FCP for more than 5 years and have never had this problem. iMovie has audio during capture, so I am convinced that there is a pre-set in FCP that I don't have checked properly, but I've been over them many times and still have no answer. I searched past forums and didn't really find anything helpful to me.
My pre-sets are set to DV NTSC 48kHz and the playback pre-sets are set to default. I can hear audio of my clips after I log and capture, but I still need to hear audio during importing. I'm more confused than anything. If anybody has had this problem before or any suggestions for me, I'm all ears.
    Thanks.
    John

    ... as Bogie says.
However... this is a non-feature that dates back to slower CPU days... yet, still with all the different formats and such I (ME!!) I believe it's still good practice to leave it off.
Devoting as much CPU work to the capture process lessens the chance for something to go wrong. You can easily monitor the audio directly out of the deck as needed.
Sure -- octo cores need 30 apps open just to get your money's worth and I'm sure you won't have any issues using an 8th of one to send audio thru itself while the other 7 and 7/8ths are used for capture... but who wants to risk it?
Not me... I'm to old to change my ways.

  • Audio lag from Canon XHA1 speaker during log and capture

    Hey All,
I'm working with a Canon XHA1. I'm logging and capturing video shot in HDV (1920 by 1080) @ 60i, . I can see the video on screen but the audio playing back from the camera is about half a second behind what I'm seeing on screen.
My video monitor on the camera sincs up fine with the audio during this process AND my final capture is fine. It's just hard to work with this audio delay during the log and capture.
Is this a settings issue? I don't think I can monitor sound through the computer during log and capture, right?
    Here are my settings:
    Sequence preset:
    HDV - 1080i60
    Capture preset: HDV
    Device control preset:
    HDV Firewire Basic
    Video Playback: None
    Audio Playback: Default
    Any suggestions?
AND can anybody tell me what Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 means?

  • Log & Capture -- audio out of sync

We are editing a feature doc...we logged & captured a few tapes. We are not certain of the fps rate that the DV was shot. We are told it is 24p. We are working off of dubs...if that makes a differnce???
When we do a advanced pulldown the audio is really out of sync. When we capture at 29.97fps, it is also out of sync. We are baffled. Below is the warning that we get when we batch capture and the capturing is completed:
<<The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does
not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the
video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the
audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of
    your tape.>>
We would love to edit this in 29.97fps to be able to view off our monitor.
Are there any suggestions to troubleshoot?
We are proceeding to log, but not capture. Is this wise? Or should we find out what is wrong first?
    Thanks, joeyngloria

I'm delighted--in a sick way--to see this topic being posted today, since I'm having a very similar problem:
While capturing HD footage shot with, and captured from, a Sony HDR-FX1, I noticed that the A/V were out of sync by a solid second, maybe longer (FCP 5.1.4). The problem is there from the start of each of two tapes, and it's there throughout. Both tapes are 1 hour of continuous film with no cuts (they were interviews).
There's no sync problem when the footage is viewed on the camera's LCD, and it doesn't matter if I capture to my external drive (Maxtor, 500 gig, FW 800, empty) or to my iMac (1.6 Ghz) hard drive (something I did as an experiment to test whether there was something going on with the external drive).
Captured clips played in the viewer faithfully reproduce the out of sync A/V.
    Appreciate your help.

  • Video & Audio Files Logged & Captured Independently. Why?

    Hello All,
I've been working with a Panasonic DVX 100B for some time now. I've had nothing but success in shooting footage, and transferring it to my computer using the Log & Capture function. On my latest attempt something has happened that I can't figure out. The video and audio are captured, but they are not linked. In other words, I can find the video file in my Capture Scratch / Project Folder, but when I import it into my project, there is no audio accompanying it. I can however find the audio file in the Audio Capture Scratch, and import that. When placed at the same playhead location on the timeline, they are perfectly in sync. This is nice, but it makes editing an unnecessary struggle.
I tried logging and capturing twice, to see if it was just a glitch. The same thing occurred.
Did I bump something inadvertently? What's happening? Finally, is there a way to permanently connect the audio and video now, or do I need to log and capture again (3rd time being a charm)?
    Thanks.
    DG

You changed the capture scratch disk setting.
    • Uncheck "capture audio and video to separate files".
To link the audio and video
    • Once the audio and video are in the timeline and aligned, select them then: Modify>Link (⌘+L)
