Audio - mono/stereo

Pretty new to FinalCut.
I have imported and created a Media map with clips in it.
Clips "item property" says its stereo.
Same thing after pulling a clip into the wiever. Still stereo.
From there on to the timeline or canvas it
changes to mono?
And I've read the manual
and I really can't seem
to find the solutions to this.
Tried to seach in prefs. but there seem
not to be the possibility of either mono
or stereo when you define how many
audio tracks the project should consist
of.
Hope someone of you guys can help.
Best regards
Torben, Denmark

Sounds like one audio track ?
Any track in FCE will be mono in effect, to have stereo you require a Stereo Pair, two separate tracks working as one.
You will notice small green inward facing triangles in a stereo pair edited to the timeline.
Use Modify>Stereo Pair to create a stereo pair or make them separate.
If you require one track to be heard on both speakers: open the audio into the Viewer and move the Pan control slider to centre it or type 0 into the Pan field.

  • FCPX ignores audio mono/stereo

    Here's a new problem! (sigh)
Working on a show with several multi cam clips, all are specified dual mono (parent clips, multi cam clips in the bin, clips on the timeline, etc all dual mono) but my final export ("Master File" preset) is obviously stereo. On the timeline FCPX occasionally plays back in stereo (I can see it in the meters) but the problem seems to be corrected when I "expand audio components" and then collapse them... But the fix doesn't stay fixed for long.
Any Idea what could be going on??

  • Capturing mono VHS footage, how do I convert audio to stereo?

I am creating dvd's from some old VHS tapes, and the audio track is mono, I want to know how to convert audio to stereo? Do I start with the audio settings on Mono or stereo, and then what is the next step to get mono audio converted to stereo?
As always thanks in advance for reading and replying to my post.

Are you wanting to add a second channel of audio along side the mono track?
Or, are you wanting to double the mon track into a faux-stereo track?
Either way, DO start with a stereo track on your audio settings.
But if your VHS audio is not split into two separate channels of sound, then there is no way to get true stereo.
However, for a faux-stereo sound, try copying the original mono track, paste it to a second audio track then nudge just that track by one frame.
Listen to it and if it doesn't give enough presence to the overall sound, try another frame nudge until you get the sound you like.
This isn't true stereo but will create more of an aural landscape that might satisfy your request.

  • How to convert false (dual mono) stereo files ?

I imported an enormous amount of regions from a Final Cut Pro project, and because the cameras each had mono mics but were recording audio in stereo, all the audio files are technically stereo, but contain only mono information.
So I've got hundreds of stereo-interleaved files in my Logic session, but each file contains only mono information, so my project is twice the size it needs to be.
Can anyone suggest a way to remove all that redundant information ? What I want to do is split all the interleaved files, then select all the .R files and delete them, but I don't see any way to accomplish this in Logic, other than file-by-file (I have 500 of them...)
Anyone been down this path ?
    Thanks!
    -James

Hey, thanks for all the suggestions, Seeren!
I'm not sure how your method is generating only .L files for you--when I split interleaved, I always get both sides... but not a big deal. It's easy enough to delete half the audio.
The real problem is getting the files replaced without losing all the arrange work: your method requires manually replacing the old stereo files with the new mono files in the arrange, which would be a ton of work in large projects like mine...
But... I did find a solution to this--it's not exactly elegant, though, because it requires some filename hacking:
Turns out if you have a reference to a stereo interleaved file in your project, and you replace it with a mono file of exactly the same length and filename, Logic will happily accept the substitution without a complaint. So the way to replace all the stereo files with the .L files is:
    1) Copy the stereo interleaved files into split stereo, then remove the new split stereo files from the audio bin (but leave them on disk)
    2) Close the project
    3) Remove the original stereo files from the "Audio Files" folder, and delete the .R files.
    ...that's all easy... then...
    4) Rename all those .L files, removing the .L so they have the same names as the original stereo files
    5) Reopen your project--Logic will now refer to the new mono files, not the original stereo files
Step #4 requires some hacking to do efficiently: I used the command line to rename all those files quickly. There are probably utilities out there that could have done the job with a GUI, and AppleScript could probably do it, too.
Anyway... this works, if it's helpful to anyone else.
But ultimately I guess this is a feature request: it's cool that Logic makes it so easy to manipulate split stereo files as a single unit. But there are occasional times when you need to manipulate stereo files individually. There should be a track command in the arrange that takes a stereo track and replaces it with two mono tracks... rather surprising this doesn't seem to exist (it's one mouse click in ProTools [ducking])...

  • Encoder live audio in stereo

Hi sorry for my english,im try to create a radio online, but
don't find what is the best option to transmit single audio in
stereo, Im try with Flash media Encoder but the audio encoder
configuration its more limited and I believe that encoder only in
    Mono.
It is possible to encoder audio in stereo with FME ?
What is the best option to encoder live audio for a Web Radio
    Online with FMS ?
    Thanks in advance.

And how increase the sampling rate and/or the bitrate of the
    audio codec?
Sampling at 22050 and a bitrate ceiling of 32kbps are both
quite limiting. Is there any chance of at least increasing the
bitrate to something like 128kbps or more?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Loops mono-stereo

    Hi,
I was just trying to import a loop in my project. Loop is called "Remix Beatbox Vocal FX". For some reason, when I've imorted the loop and play it, sound only comes from my right speaker. When I look at the waveform, it's also only halve a waveform (only the bottomside is visible). So I tried I'd just change my audio-track to mono-format, but then the loop won't play anymore... How's this possible?
    Thanks!

Click and hold the mono-stereo button to choose whether you hear the left or right channel when in mono. It's in the manual by the way.

  • Making mono, stereo.

Quick question, I recorded some stuff recently in mono. I'm familiar in final cut of duplicating audio after you digitize and then making it a stereo pair so you get left and right audio... whats the quick way to do that in Premiere CS3?

  • ES1 sidechain - mono/stereo?

Ok, this is rather weird, I hope my memory isn't playing up on me...(!)
Way back when Emagic released the ES1 (version 4.5-ish, I think), it was purely a mono synth (as opposed to stereo). They then added sidechaining to Logic, so you could route audio into it. Cool bananas - this was my main interest in the ES1, I didn't really much like it as a synth. But you could only feed in mono audio through the sidechain, and I wanted to do it to stereo stuff. (PC version, by the way...)
Now sometime later (possibly V5?), they upgraded the ES1 with some new stuff, and one of the new features was the ability to route stereo audio through the sidechain. I remember making a funny post about this on the LUG. Whoopee! Finally! I bought it. Ah, stereo bliss!
Now, I've just been trying to send stereo stuff through it like I'm sure I used to do, but it's staying strictly mono. Tracks, busses, whatever, you can send stereo sidechain signals, but it's summed to mono inside the ES1.
Tried again in Logic 6.4 Pro, and I get the same result.
So before I dig out my PC and try it in 5.51, can anybody else route stereo audio through the ES1 via the sidechain and still get the full stereo signal?
Am I going barmy? (as in, looking like or resembling barm
    Weird...

    Hello,
Logic Pro 7.23 - I get mono, stereo signals come out mono and if I hard pan the source so it only plays on one channel my stereo ES1 outputs on both if its channels.
Maybe a bug since a long time
Once again how I set it up: one ES1 stereo on one instrument track. one other instrument on another instrument track -> routed to bus 3; output of bus3 to no output, SideChain of ES1 to bus3, second Osc to ext, Mix to Sub.
I am afraid you need to get your PC going to check
    Report it!
    hope that helps

  • Mono/Stereo

I have a project with 10 audio tracks. I just found out track 5 and 6 were recorded mono, so really only track 5 has some audio in it. I was wondering: is it possible to copy the entire track 5 to track 6, so they have the same audio?
Or to make just track 5 a stereo track?

make sure there are no little arrows connecting the audio tracks (stereo pair) and then turn OFF the linked selection option which is located on the top right of the timeline window, next to the snapping button. Looks like an infinite symbol. Make it grey, not green. Then select the track you want to delete and delete it.
Then, select the track left over, and go to Modify/Audio/Pan center.

  • Mono/stereo conflict

    Hello,
I'm using logic pro 7.2.3, I'm trying to import a wave file but when I drag and drop it an error occurs that says: Mono/Stereo conflict. Why is this happening and how can I use this audio file in logic?
    Thanks
    Mike

Firstly, this is the LP8 forum, so specific LP7 questions are best placed in the LP7 forum.
What is your universal track mode preference set to, what format wave file are you dragging, and where are you dropping it?

  • I can't select "audio output stereo" on a track in the arrange window

When I create a new song, in the Arrange window I can
choose "audio output stereo" for a given track, and
access the mixer's output from there. Fab.
When I open a song that I oringally created using Logic 5,
"audio output stereo" does not appear.
Is this something about the file format?
    (a) is there something simple to do to enable that for
older songs, or (b) is there a way to convert older song files to LE7?
    thanks,
    fred, san rafael.

    Sorry, je suis un idiot.
FYI. I went into the Environment window and found "Output 1-2"
to be un-checked. Checking it now makes "audio output stero" an available option in that song.
    Thanks for listening.

  • Blu-ray builds to an ISO always change my 5.1 audio to stereo.

I'm editing in Premier Pro CS6 and sending via a dynamic link to Encore. I'm building my menus and importing other timelines before making the final build as an ISO (Blu-ray Image). I believe I have everything set to the proper Blu-ray specs however the builds always change my 5.1 audio to stereo. The Blu-ray Transcode Status shows Transcoded and the Transcode Settings show Automatic for all the sequences and -- or N/A for the timelines.
Is there anyone out there who has idea as to what I'm doing wrong? Any help is appreciated, thanks

I don't think you can dynamic link 5.1 audio. Encore will handle it as pass through, but with dynamic link, there is no compliant file for Encore to use.
If the Bluray transcode status shows "transcoded," it means that Encore has transcoded it (into stereo). You want to see "do not transcode," but by definition, dynamic link shows "untranscoded."
You can export the audio only as 5.1 and import that. Encore can handle the video only as dynamic link. But I worry about a very small difference creating sync issues.

  • Mono/stereo field in iTunes view options

How do I add a mono/stereo field to the view options in iTunes?
I have over 20 years experience working with professional bands but am now deaf in 1 ear so I understand what mono is.
This would help sort a 128 kbs stereo copy of a song that is about half the quality of a 128 kbs mono copy of the same song.

    Dot-Khan wrote:

If Apple's iTunes software engineers did not design-in a particular feature or function, you can't add one yourself, unless you are a skilled programmer or hire one to do it for you. Even then, I expect that modifying the code is a violation of the end-user license agreement (EULA).
If I understand your motive, you could rename mono files to distinguish them from others, or perhaps use an existing field - there are quite a few sort fields not typically used - and place an 'M' there to easily sort those tunes.
