Audio movement

I am doing some audio work which in theory is simple but I don't know how to do it in FCP. I just want to know how to fade in and out between sound clips. I know how to do audio dissolve between two cuts but I need to get more out of the audio in FCP. Basically fading down one clip and fading up to another. I also know how to adjust the overall level of a clip but I want to have two clips on top of each other and move up and down with the level between them. I can't seem to get a good explanation in the manual. Don't mean to clog up this forum with what I guess is a beginner tool.

You need to use Keyframes.

  • Audio moves out of sync or alignment with video after moving clip

I have a video clip with it's detached audio on the secondary timeline.  The audio has been broken apart so that I can edit each individual audio track.  But I still want to keep the audio linked and synced with the video.  When I select the audio and video and move the clip, the audio moves out of sync(by a frame or two), and isn't locked directly under the video the way it should be, or the way it was before I moved the clip.  I notice this when I zoom in really close and the audio tracks are a frame or two off.  In some cases, the audio tracks get increasingly out of sync the more I move the clip.  This shouldn't happen when I select everything together.  Has anyone ever experienced this or is there a solution to avoid the audio getting out of perfect alignment with the video?  Thanks

Yes, it would probably be best to just turn it into a compound clip.  I'm relatively new to FCP X, and I'm coming from FCP 7.  In FCP 7, I like being able to see both channels of audio under each clip.  So, what I do is adjust the audio levels for each channel separately.  I might add keyframes to one channel and leave the other channel alone.  In FCP X, it seems like the only way to edit or adjust the separate channels is by breaking apart the audio.  Then I can see both channels of audio and I can add key frames, etc.  So, I just need to be able to see and edit both audio channels, independently.

  • Editing at a Very Specific Point in a Audio Movie??

I have read the support file on cutting and copying audio tracks in Quicktime Pro Windows v7.6.8 at http://helpqt.apple.com/qthelpwr3/english/QuickTimeHelp/pgs2/qtFmSet4.htm , however, it does not tell how to refine the location you choose to cut or copy. In a 1 hour audio movie, each slight move of the selection markers is 18 seconds. I need to cut at a location within one of those 18 second segments.
How do I do this? The Help files don't address it.

Thank you for that pearl of wisdom. I cannot imagine why Apple did not include it in the help link above as it is so critical to being able to edit a track.

  • Audio/Movie-Preview-Icon from Tiger (10.4) in Snow Leopard (10.6)

Is there a way to get the good old preview icon from Tiger in Snow Leopard? The one with the slider when previewing audio and movie files.
I miss the possibility to skip quickly through the icon preview in the finder column view.
(Yes, I know that it can be slided when using the new preview function by pressing the space bar. But I don't want that.)

It's just I haven't seen many "success" stories of an upgrade to snow leopard from Tiger... with working iLife 10.4 apps.

  • Premiere Pro CS6 only importing audio .mov

Recently I've exported an XML file from FCP7 which seems to have translated well into Premiere. However, I am having trouble reconnecting the media onto a PC.
When I import the files into the project, only the audio plays, and not the video.
The files are XD Cam footage .mov
Outside of Premiere the files play perfectly in VLC player.
Any suggestions? I am a Premiere newbie.

[Below is copied and pasted from the other thread.  As it's still the same problem, I'd like to keep it all here.]

I tried creating a new Premiere project and importing the same files, and now I'm receiving an error code saying the codec is missing or unavailable.
Any suggestions why I am having issues importing .mov?

  • CS5.5 Extended - problem with importing audio .mov files

I would like to import an audio file to my PS5.5 Extended. It supports .mov files, so I tried to File->Place a mov file exported from Audition CS5.5. But Photoshop says: "Could not place the document xxx.mov because the movie file could not be opened."
The mov file doesn't open in Windows Media Player either and the message is that the codec is unknown. But it opens without problems in QuickTime, as audio.
I am not sure if this is Audition or Photoshop problem, but the format, or codec which is used should be common to both programs, as they are from the same CS5.5 suite. By the way, I have all settings set to default in Audition. No idea what codec it is using.
My purpose is to import sound, and because PS Ext does not support sound files as such, I found a workaround in the internet to import a mov file. But it does not work for me..

  • IDVD shuts down when I press media button and click audio movies or photos

    Hi guys - please help!
My iDVD shuts down immediately when I click the media button and then either photos, movies or audio - why is this and how can I rectify??

Sometimes when an application is not working properly its preference files have become corrupted. It is nothing that you cause, it is just the nature of preference files.
Close iDVD. Go to your Home(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. Don't worry, iDVD will create a new fresh one when you reopen it. Reopen iDVD ad see if it works.
Post back if this does not help.

  • H264 AUDIO movie has no sound in Quicktime.

    Hi.
I have a movie file which was playing the video, but no audio in Quicktime 7.6.2. I opened up the movie properties and saw under the name column a heading "English 5.1" Under the format it is listed simply as "sound". In the movie inspector it only lists the video format (h.264 704x480 millions) and no audio format... which is obviously why Quicktime is not playing the sound. However I opend the movie with VLC and Divx players and they played the movie with the audio with no problems. Mplayer also played it with the sound. I have ffmpgx so I used it to check the source format for it and it listed it is as a matroska (.mkv) container (which I knew), the video as h264 yuv420p 704x 480, but the audio was isted as "h264, 24000 Hz,5:1" I've never seen a h264 audio format before! Is there a codec I am missing to play it? I already have the most recent version of Perian (1.1.3) installed. Am I missing a codec? Can quicktime not play this format? Any input or ideas in general? I could use ffmpegx to export it to another audio format, but I'm just wondering why the original audio format does not play in Quicktime.
    Thanks in advance!

AAC-SBR is also known as HE-AAC:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-EfficiencyAdvanced_AudioCoding
QuickTime does not, to the best of my knowledge, natively support HE-AAC, or a least only supports it in a MOV or MP4 container (I've read contradictory information on HE-AAC support). I haven't found a QuickTime codec plugin that would allow QuickTime to play an mkv file with HE-AAC audio, so unless someone else here has further information, you'll probably have to convert that file to a different format to get it playing in QuickTime.
    Regards.

  • Using Quicktime Audio .mov As Audio Track

    Hi folks.
I have an external microphone which I record into Quicktime as my audio track. Functions much better as audio for what I am recording.
My video is an independent HD camera, which I import afterwards into iMovie '09. I want to mute the camera audio, and use the microphone audio. How do I do that? It's a .mov, and I can only see it through using the iTunes importation, which is bad enough.
Do I have to translate to an MP3 first? I don't want to compress it.
    Cheers

iM09 has the drag-n-drop feature that you can use with the 2nd video clip that has your audio, and simply select the "Audio Only option" when you drop it on your main clip. See if this resolves your problem.
Workaround is to convert it to any of the supported formats - AAC, MP3, etc. to use as a standalone audio track.
And don't forget to either manually reduce the volume (under Audio tab when you dbl-click the clip) of the unwanted audio track to zero, or use ducking to reduce volume of the alternate track.

  • Audio/Movie Files Open in QuickTime Rather than iTunes

I work with online classes at a college, and we have been posting m4a and m4v files in our online courses. we put the actual files on our Mac server and post the links to the files on course webpages.
Question: In the past, when students clicked on an audio/video link, they got the option to "Open/Save/Cancel" (on a Windows machine), or, if they had the files associated with iTunes, clicking the link would trigger the file to open in iTunes. Now, all the links are automatically launching with QuickTime with no options given.
We really need files to either open with iTunes or have the save option. Any ideas about how to stop QuickTime from grabbing the files?

  • My video will skip forward while audio moves on as per normal.

This is not the long ongoing problem of the video stuttering for 1 second. I experienced a different one.
E.g. A 5 min video. The image will suddenly skip from 2min to 2.3min and stop at 2.3min. While the audio still moving from 2-2.3 min. And only when audio reaches the 2.3min where the video stopped, only then will the video start playing again.
    Win8.1
    Using Firefox.
I first experienced this problem in 15.0.0.189 after this i rollback to 15.0.0.152 but still had the problem. Now using 14.0.0.179, Just installed now testing this version.
Pls help on any updates on this problem

    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/comments/apple-computer-ipod-5g-with-vi deo-30gb-60gb-ipod/
I've also heard the meter will change and reflect battery life based on what function is currently being used. So, after watching a lengthy video it may be red but if you switch to music it turns green because the current function uses less battery life per min/hour of use than videos do.

  • Offsetting audio moves it all into one channel.

Also, inserting "sound only" from a clip puts it all into one channel (the source clip is in both channels, I've checked!).
The sound on imovie is a complete joke, the skimming breaks down constantly and it arbritarily puts all the sound into one channel for any clip in the project where I try to do even the most basic sound editing or cross fading.
Has anyone else encountered or hopefully fixed this bug?
ilife is a toy for amateurs it seems, I've had similarly shambolic experiences with Garageband recently. What started as a nice simple 3 minute film has turned into a nightmare because of ridiculous glitches which take hours to work around or replace!
Rant over, problems however continue.. advice or solidarity appreciated..!

    Hi SethRow187,
I agree with Ingo, first go through the ASCII DataPlugin Wizard in DIAdem 10.0 or later to generate a DataPlugin which will automatically load one of your ASCII files.  Then I would recommend using a VBScript that either concatenates data already loaded from multiple files into separate Groups in the Data Portal, or using a VBScript that additionally pops up a multi-select file dialog to automate both the selection and concatenation.
Below you will find an example of the latter,

    National Instruments
P.S.  You will need to edit lines 17 and 18 in the script "Importing Data From Multiple DataPlugin Files.VBS" and replace the existing file extension and DataPlugin name with ones that fit your data files.

  • HT4640 I have been developing a keynote presentation & want to play audio across several slides. Also want to insert movies made in final cut X but am finding I have to go to black and double click movie files before they appear. looks awful to do that.

I am new to Keynote and the newest version was just installed in my apps.  I have found difficulty in using audio in a presentation since my presentation plays various audio clips over several slides or movie clips.  My solution has been to create movies with my audio (.mov from final cut x) and insert into the presentation.  They play in the presentation but I cannot get a smooth transition. The presntation must go to black and I have to double click for every "slide" that is done this way.  I am on the verge of going back to powerpoint as my presentation platform. Seems there is little or no flixibility in keynote.

  • Audio in QT Movie in Mac, Can't Find Audio in QT Movie on PC

I've got two movies that playback with their embedded MP3 audio that I created.
On a Mac I posted it on an FTP site then downloaded it, double-clicked, and it all played back fine.
But two clients could not play it back *on their PC*, where the prompt said that the mp3 file could not be found within the movie.
Now, on a PC, I have loaded both the .mov file and its separate .mp3 file to my desktop from the FTP. I double click on the movie, and the audio plays fine.
SO QT files with sound don't play embedded sound in the file, but if you extract the sound and downoad them separately (audio.mp3) and (audio.mov), it seeks out the right file and plays it.
On a Mac, when the audio is embedded with cut and paste and saved to the file, it's all there. One movie file, one click, movie starts. Easier, organic, they way it should be. What process is at work separating these audio and video tracks in PC when they play back fine in Mac?
I value any insights., MAC OS 10.4.4
    G5 1.8 dual   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Based on the original problem and the fact that it plays on your original Mac platform and a PC to which you have downloaded all resources, it appears you may have saved the "uploaded" file in the "reference" mode rather than as a "standalone." Check the size of the merged uploaded movie and see if it is just a few KBs in size or check the "Resource" entry in the "Show Movie Properties" window. If the movie does not reference itself in its current stored location, then you will have confirmed that this is your problem. The solution is to then resave the file but select the "Standalone" save option in the process.
