Audio/Movie-Preview-Icon from Tiger (10.4) in Snow Leopard (10.6)

Is there a way to get the good old preview icon from Tiger in Snow Leopard? The one with the slider when previewing audio and movie files.
I miss the possibility to skip quickly through the icon preview in the finder column view.
(Yes, I know that it can be slided when using the new preview function by pressing the space bar. But I don't want that.)

It's just I haven't seen many "success" stories of an upgrade to snow leopard from Tiger... with working iLife 10.4 apps.
You should keep in mind that these are technical support forums. Generally, the only people posting here are those with problems. The thousands/millions without problems don't ever come here.

Alright, so i reformatted and erased my hard drive and tried installing Snow Leopard but it says "this computer doesn't have enough RAM"...
AFTER i cleaned it out. and now it won't let me eject the disc or get out of the installation screen..
it says to restore my system with time machine.. but i don't have time machine or any backups.
but under my hard drive settings it says:

You should also read the section in the right column titled - *Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.*
Don't confuse the technical or licensing requirements with Apple's buying suggestion that Tiger users should purchase the Box Set. The Snow Leopard DVD & the license to use it are the same whether they come as part of the Box Set or as the OS-only retail product. Neither one requires anything special of Tiger users aside from the general & feature-specific technical requirements.
Specifically, make sure the Black 2006 MacBook has a minimum of 1 GB of installed memory since most of the "Early 2006" ones came with only 512 MB (½ GB) installed.

Xferring iMovie HD 6 from Tiger set-up to Snow Leopard

I'm still using 10.4.11 on my iMac. I guess time is running out for the old tiger but I get on with it very well. However, it make sense to upgrade to SL pretty soon. Problem is I must keep iMovie HD 6. It has 'professional' attributes that later versions just don't have (though I've now forgotten precisely what!?). Anyway, I work with it all the time and am not keen on having to readjust my brain to something inferior.
So, is there likely to be a problem transferring it to the later OS?
I am also worrying about anything else that may be problematic on transfer. I see QuickTime has upgrades since the Pro version I use...

If you really have version 6, then it will transfer OK to SL.
The problem is part of your statement that mentions "pre-iLife". "pre-iLife" means iMovie version2.
The original iLife contained iMovie 3.
The second is "iLife '04", which contained iMovie 4.
The third is "iLife '05", which contained iMovie 5 (also called "iMovie HD").
The fourth is "iLife '06", which contained iMovie 6 (also called "iMovie HD 6").
iMovie was never part of "Tiger". iMovie 3 was part of Panther.
If you bought a Mac with Tiger you also got iLife, but iLife has never been part of any OS (Tiger or not).

I'm trying to upgrade from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard but keep getting an error message, "This update requires Mac OS X version 10.6.". Isn't Snow Leopard 10.6?....so now what?

It sounds more like you are trying to use an updater rather than the Snow Leopard installer DVD. You might read over the following:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Actually, you have a Late 2006 model iMac that can use a Maximum of 3 GB of RAM. See the link below. So you can use a 1 GB and a 2GB modules.

I recently downgraded from Mountain Lion back to Snow Leopard and I forgot to export my bookmarks.

Unfortunately downgrading from Mountain Lion back to Snow Leopard means I need to wipe the hard drive and install everything from scratch. That takes hours, and I've already done the bulk of the work, twice actually since I forgot to back up my photos in Iphoto and had to start over from my Time Machine backup of Mountain Lion.
Anyhow, I am curious as to whether or not there is a way to retrieve my bookmarks from the Time Machine backup and get them onto my downgraded OS, or will I have to start all over again, restore my system to Mountain Lion and go through the hours it takes to get back to Snow Leopard.

You're missing the point. If you didn't make the /username/Library/ folder visible, then it's hidden on the TM backup. Getting to ii is beyond my ken. However, Pondini's TM FAQs might have info on that madness.

I would appreciate any advice on the intricacies of operating with Snow Leopard on my main computer and Mountain Lion on my MacBook Air.

I'm not sure there are any intricacies except you can't use iCloud to keep the two things synced. It would be mostly contacts, Safari bookmarks, Calendars, notes, etc.
Also, iCloud allows saving iWork documents in the Cloud, so you can access them on both systems. That would not be available for the old Mac.
The two OSes are similar enough that it wouldn't be too difficult to work between the two, but there will be differences in using the Finder (contextual menu changes)
I thought I would have more, but I've been off Snow Leopard for so long now, I'll leave this for someone who is currently operating like that or recently switch to Mountain Lion from SL.

Personally I never trust my data to everything working perfectly.
I always backup everything twice at least.

You cannot download the upgrade to Snow Leopard.
