Audio Muting and Other Operations Unbelievably Slow To Respond

See my computer profile -- I'm running what should be a blazingly fast system. However, modifying playback response of audio tracks (muting, for one) sometimes takes several seconds to occur. Wondering if anyone else experiences the same sluggish results:
1. If several audio tracks are playing and you mute a track using the mute tool, it takes several seconds for the mute to occur -- far from instantaneous.
Exception #1: Muting the track at the Mixer level results in near instantaneous muting.
Exception #2: If you stop playback of Logic, quickly mute the desired track(s) and then hit "continue", the muting occurs immediately and playback progresses as expected.
2. Cycle=On and the SPL is approaching the right locator. You change the right locator to a greater value before the SPL reaches the previously set value. The SPL will advance forward, as expected, but the audio (never MIDI) will actually play back from the left locator for several seconds before jumping ahead to play the audio at the present SPL location.
These several-second delays seem abnormal. Wondering if it is...

iSchwartz,
It's not a problem. I wasn't sure if something I said had ruffled some feathers- I didn't take your response personally and your response confirmed that. I hadn't assumed that you had bad intentions and walked away giving you the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't personal. Was just trying to clear up the grey area because it was not my intent to upset, but inform (for you and anybody else with these problems). Hey, I've got a sarcastic side to me as well! One of the big drawbacks about typing/writing is the inflection and some of the intention is lost-and leaves room for interpretation. I'll admit I look at things from an unorthodox perspective. I see very few things in Black and White.
I don't know Gerhardt personally (I do know who he is, of course). Regardless, that was flattering. I should spend more time on music and recording-lately I have spent alot of time here. But I am usually multitasking so...there's my excuse.
Speaking of advancements, I see you are on 7.1.1. It may be too early for me to say-but 7.2 has been the best version of Logic 7.x-hands down. This is just using my computers and as it has not been available very long, but it is gr8 here. Getting bugs out and making Logic more modern (if there is legacy code, etc.) and stable is my #1 request for Logic Team. And this update I feel really adressed that. I can't remember 7.2 crashing on me (save user abuse or 3rd party plugs bringing things down). If you want more stability and speed in your pro environment- I highly recommend that $50 upgd. BUT ask others how it has been for them. 7.2 makes me rave-I can't explain it. btw, I don't work for Apple.
I get frustrated as well, no offense taken. I hope you get the muting as responsive to your liking. I have much respect for you as well. See you soon iSchwartz.

After updating to Snow Leopard (to install Lion later), Safari and other aplications became super super slow and Preview is not working properly, I can't print anything that was opened with Preview. When going on to ebay site (and some others) it either doesn't load the full screen or the green circle just goes round and round to a blank screen or the screen gets messed up and displaces the information. • Audio problem and macbook pro very slow

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro for less than a year.
The latter has begin to be very slow. In addition, I have no sound which are emitted from my Mac, setting apart the opening gong. By the jack, there is no red light that are emitted. I tried to go in the program "audio setup midi" but it does not even want to open. So I tried to open the configuration panel go to select a new audio output device, but to my surprise, after an interminable waiting times, I got a list of blank audio device .. .
I noticed that it started when I put my Mac to version 10.7.4 ... So this is very recent ...
When downloading the update, I was editing a script with automator and my Mac was rammed by an HDMI cable has a television, if it ever can help.
I was wondering how to solve my problem.
    thank you
    Bonjour,
Je me demandais comment résoudre mes problème.
    Merci

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Almost all of RAM is being used, internet and other tasks are slow

My computer seems to be getting slower.  I don't do much more than run Safari.  When I run the activity monitor it shows that I have 3.99 GB of memory used out of 4 GB of physical memory.

This forum is quite general, basically for modern Macs. It would help if you said what model your Mac is and more importantly what Operating System you are running.
See your  About this Mac, More info for such detail.
Have reset Safari? I recommend you try this. It may be all you need to do occasionally.
From the Safari menu, select Reset Safari and select everything except Remove saved names and passwords.
Also from the same menu Empty the Cache as well and see how that goes.

  • Problems with a bluetooth mouse and others operating systems

Hello, I have an error related to bluetooth devices.
I have on my Mac mini apart from Mountain Lion, a Linux distribution.
Steps to follow to find the error:
    1. - Connect a bluetooth mouse to Mountain Lion and set it up.
    2. - Reset the mini, start with Linux and also configure the mouse.
Now the mouse works fine on Mountain Lion and Linux.
Start again with Mountain Lion, you will see that the mouse does not work, but the system has added and configured.
That mistake I've seen for the first time in Snow Leopard, Lion has continued and now with Mountain Lion.
The only way to fix it is to connect a USB mouse, remove the Bluetooth mouse and add it again.
The configuration fails again when using the mouse in Linux.
Tested on another Mac (Mac-Pro) with the same result.
(I tested it with a Dell BT Travel Mouse and a Magic Mouse)
    Regards

    First, excuse my poor english
It's not offend, but I understand that at the time that Linux is off, and OSX is on, is OSX which is not able to work with the mouse.
I do not know what is the reason for which the operating system is not able to operate the mouse, even if it is paired and authorized.
The system also says that the mouse is working properly, when it is obvious that it is not.
Moreover, the Bluetooth preference pane is completely slowed and functioning incorrectly.
And finally, to comment that the mouse works properly on Linux after having done in OSX ..., which shows that the problem is OSX.
If I open this post is for someone to try and investigate.
Would be nice if Apple released a patch as it is clear that something is not working well in OSX.
What I did not expect was to listen that having a Linux through the middle, there is no problem.
    regards

  • Oracle BPM Composer and other Apps Too Slow

    Dear Forum Members,
I made a installation of Oracle BPM/SOA Suite in a Development VM with 5GB RAM.
The web applications such as BPM Composer, EM, Weblogic Console are too slow. They take too much time to load.
I am using the JRockit JVM and Centos 6.

Bump up your memory to 8gb and then look at your xmx setting in your startWeblogic.sh and ensure it's 3072m or more.

  • Restaurant City and other Facebook games slow

I bought my wife a fancy new MBA for xmas with the plan of inheriting her old MBP. Alas all is not well as one of her main uses for it is playing all those flash games on facebook, namely Restaurant City & Pack Rat, but the performance is plain ordinary. Just a simple rollover on a button takes a good second to appear, drop down menues can take two or 3 seconds to activate, and animations are like they're in slow motion. I realise I bought the entry level model of MBA and I know all the history of Flash on the Mac, but is this really the best I can expect from a brand new machine? I've downloaded the latest beta version of Flash (10.2), it helped only marginally. I've also noticed Firefox seems to run the games a lot faster than Safari does. Still nowhere near what our 3yr old 2.4ghz Macbook Pro runs them at. Activity monitor has Flash running at between 80%-140% CPU with safari. Firefox runs it at around 60%-80% which seems to reflect the performance difference I'm seeing.
Is this as good as it gets?

    Hi Aaron,
Try emptying the Safari cache more often. Command + Option + E or from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.
Make sure there isn't a Safari Extension slowing things down. Go to Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. You can turn Extensions off there to test.
And, make sure it's not a Safari unsupported third party app causing the lag time. Troubleshooting help here.
Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Also with Safari... go to Safari / Preferences - Security. Make sure Java is enabled.

  • Keynote file menu and file operations very slow

Anyone else seeing specific slow downs when you open, save, etc or access the file menu on the new version of keynote 5.1 using 10.6.8.
    Any fixes?

I will try to make a WebDAV repository out of one on Monday.
I just tried something different though.  I logged on as a user with administrator rights, it only took 13 seconds to list the directory instead of 3 minutes plus.  The regular user has rights and eventually sees what they should, it is just painfully slow.

  • ITunes App and Other Downloads Extremely Slow

I have the latest version of iTunes; however this problem began presenting itself even before my upgrade: apps, songs, podcasts, etc. (basically anything downloaded through iTunes) start dowloading very fast (my connection is a 60 megabit one) and then hang in the middle of downloading. They sit there... trickle downloading at an incredibly slow rate until ultimately, they finish. Stuff that used to take seconds, now takes minutes.
I have my iTunes collection on an external USB drive, which I have verified as working fine in the Disk Utility, and there is still 80GB of free space available. This problem presents itself even when no other applications save iTunes are running. Nothing has changed on my side, so I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this difficulty.
A side note, this issue doesn't appear when I am downloading anything through the Apple App Store (such as the 300MB or so Mountain Lion update I downloaded in under a minute today).

You have more or less answered your own question, you have too little space on your hard drive. Either put in a bigger one, or offload some of your music and photos/videos onto an external drive. You can use [whatsize|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/44018] to see which programs are taking up the most space. You can also go to Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor to see if anything is hogging your CPU. Remember to empty your browser caches and the trash as well.

  • AirPlay Speakers audio syncing and other issues.

For awhile I have been having a lot of issues with AirPlay Speakers (that is, sending the audio from my Apple TV to my AirPort Express while syncing the video). These include:
Almost any app can have the audio go out of sync with the video. This usually can be fixed by pausing and playing again.
WatchABC Live repeating commercials and not going back to the show. (ABC 7 WABC NY on Optimum)
Certainly not the worst issue to have, but Hulu Plus will skip most commercials.
And now, Showtime Anytime is guaranteed to have the audio go out of sync for both live and on demand shows and it will not go back to normal unless I switch to my TVs speakers.
These issues have occurred since I had a 2nd gen Apple TV, and now I have a 3rd gen (Rev. A) with Apple TV version 6.2. The AirPort Express (802.11n 2nd gen) is right next to the Apple TV and connected to my AirPort Extreme via Ethernet, extending the network. I have tried connecting via Ethernet and it only seemed to lessen the issues slightly.

    Chris,
I also own a T400 and had huge issues with skipping audio. Try the following:
    1) Uninstall Intel Storage Manager and let Vista use the default driver for disc controller (I presume yours is by default in AHCI mode just as mine was).
    2) Then go to Control Panel -> Sound, select Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 and after clicking on Options, select Disable all enhancements under Enhancements tab (this is a time-proven trick I learned while using a Dell at work).
Pls let me know it this works for you.

  • Safari (and other browsers) very slow loading "content rich" web pages

    Hi,
I'm a very "light" user of my mac, using it basically for surfing the web, uploading pictures and music, etc... and recently any web page that has a lot of content (examples are nfl.com, nba.com, nhl.com, mlb.com, united.com, continental.com) takes a very long time to load (most other web pages load normally). Safari (and Firefox as well) gets to the web page in an instant, but then sits there trying to load content (mostly high res pictures and ads I suppose), which sometimes takes minutes or just never fully downloads the content. I'm connected to the internet via ethernet (high speed cable modem from Time Warner), and they've already come out and verified that everything on their end is fine. I've followed the instructions posted on some of the other similar posts (emptying cache, deleting cookies, disenabling add on's, reseting safari, logging in as another user, etc..), and this has not helped. Since this problem is persistent with both browsers, I'm wondering if this may be an OS issue as opposed to a browser issue. If someone can walk me through a solution (keep in mind that I'm a novice), that would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    HI and welcome....
Since this problem is persistent with both browsers, I'm wondering if this may be an OS issue as opposed to a browser issue
    Could be.
Since the problems exist with multiple browsers, login to another user account on your Mac. Try Safari there. If you see the same behavior with Safari there, then follow the instructions here. You will need your install disc. The startup disk may need repairing. Even if Safari is ok in another account, it's still a good idea to check the startup disk. That way you can rule that out.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free space.

  • DB_RUNRECOVERY from DB remove and other operations in same transaction

    Hello,
I have a program which basically does the following:
    - Start transaction
    - Insert data into a database
    - Remove that database
    - Create another database
    - Insert data into database
    - Commit transaction - this returns DB_RUNRECOVERY.
    Error messages are:
lock_downgrade: Lock is no longer valid
    PANIC: Invalid argument
PANIC: fatal region error detected; run recovery
    (repeated serveral times)
The program creates and removes some In-memory databases during its run.
If a commit/begin transaction is inserted somewhere, the error disappears.
I could not produce a small demonstration program yet because there is a rather complex layer between the program and Berkeley DB.
As stated above, there is a workaround, but the behavior appears nontheless incorrect. Is there a way to fix it?
    Edited by: user547613 on Jan 28, 2009 12:02 PM

    Hello,
We would greatly appreciate a standalone program that reproduces this problem. If that is not feasible, then could you provide more details about the problem including relevant snippets of code which would allow us to try and recreate the problem?
    Thanks and warm regards.

  • Power Manager and other operating systems

I'm looking to run Linux on my T410.  I currently have my power manager in windows set to charger my battery to a max of 70% and start when it is below 60%.  I did this because I'm usually plugged in (If I'm not the laptop is asleep or I'm not using it for too long so the loss of battery time isn't that important) and I would like to preserve as much battery life as I can.  My question is, how are these settings saved, and if I were using Ubuntu, how could I keep my battery charging like this.  I didn't see any settings in Ubuntu to only have my battery charge to 70%, so I don't know what to do.

The settings will be written to a chip in the battery while "Shut down" the computer (but not "Restart"). So the values should be kept while using Linux. But i don't know the behavior of the charging values at shutting down Linux.
