Audio no longer syncs with video thanks to some frame changes I made - HELP

I had frame issues with a feature-length movie recorded at 24p and edited on a 24fps timeline. My early settings led to a repeat frame every 3 frames. I have since changed the pulldown, though I don't know from what to what to be honest. Maybe it WAS 2:3:2:3 and now it's 2:3:3:2, or the other way around. Not sure at this point.
I made other changes, too. I found a setting to change from interlaced to progressive, which only made sense since my footage was captured on the progressive setting on the Panasonic DVX100. So I changed that, too.
I may have changed another setting or two as well until the video looked more accurate and lost the 'flicker' or 'jerky' appearance on long, tracking shots.
Through all these changes, the audio didn't suffer anything. Now, with a new audio mix from my sound engineer, the dialogue matches perfectly for the first several minutes, but by the end of the movie, it is off by several seconds. I have tried to revert to my original video settings to see if I can sync the video and audio, but I have had absolutely no success. Even the earlier audio mixes that kept sync through the video changes are now out of sync.
And the movie's length has not changed.
HOWEVER... my music selections have held their positions perfectly throughout. I am at my wit's end with this and I am, no doubt, lacking in explanation to expect one of you experts out there to solve my problem. Anyone who is willing to take a shot at this, please let me know!
I should mention, too, that I have opened a backup copy of the movie from another hard drive - a backup copy saved before any of the video settings were altered. And that file has the same problems, too. I'm frustrated with the way Final Cut handles system preferences and doesn't adjust to the preferences of the individual file, but rather the last saved settings. Makes it difficult to backtrack.
Again, thank you for struggling through this tome and accept my gratitude in advance for any effort given to assist me!

It's going to be very important for you to figure out what format your video was captured in. You have almost definitely been editing at a frame rate that was different from the frame rate of your video, which is why you were seeing problems with panning. Have you been watching the video on an external television or just on your computer screen? Chances are there isn't a quick fix for this issue. You're either going to have to learn about this technical stuff or you need to find someone who knows about it who can troubleshoot with you in person. I've written a little bit about editing in 24p on my website. This post is a good start. http://www.kylegilman.net/2007/03/01/24p-headaches/

Your audio was probably not recorded in Pro Tools, it was edited and mixed in Pro Tools. How was your audio recorded on set? Did you have microphones going into the camera or did you record into a separate machine like a DAT player or a hard disk recorder?
My advice for now, not really knowing exactly what the problem is, and assuming the timecode on your imported AVI files matches the timecode on your DV tapes is to do a batch capture of your sequence straight from the DV tapes, capturing using the DV NTSC 48 kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal preset. This will at least ensure that your video is at the correct frame rate. Unfortunately it won't ensure that your audio will sync up.
Also, have you tried changing the speed of your mixed audio to either 99.9% or 100.1%? This will not be a complete fix because you still probably have some duplicated frames in your video, but it might put it back in sync.
And make sure you have a back up of your project and media before you do anything else.

  • PVC2300 recorded audio is not sync with video

    Hi all,
I have a big big problem with my new PVC2300 network camera:
when I recording (from browser interface) the audio of the .avi file is not sync with video... in details in a record of 12-13 minutes the audio ends 8-10 seconds before the video... and I suppose that more lenght is the recorded file and more lenght is the desync between audio and video.
I use MPEG4 video stream at 640x480 30 fps and audio G.711 A-Law in mode "simplex - listen only".
For my usage this is a very big isssue... I hope there is a way to fix it.
    Thanks in advice
    Robert

I tried for 2 days for all possible configurations, editing: frame rate, quality, resolution. and type of stream (MPEG4 or MJPEG).
The only case that the recorded audio and video is sync is setting the SMB protocol to autorecord to a NAS.
But this mode have a lot of problems (.asf  format, large file size and continuos recording without the ability to start and stop the recordings).
I think that the desync is a bug (a very big bug) of yours activex control  that makes the recording.
I have find more or less a workaround using the Cisco Client... the program get an error on start (after unintall and install few times, and a lot of test, I understand that the only way to use the Cisco Client is running it as administrator.
Ok finnaly the cisco program works, but using it I found another problems:
after recorded, I tried to export a part of recording for testing the audio-video sync... the program gives me 2 format: AVI (without the ability to choose any other options) and ASF (with quality options). I tried first AVI format... the result sucks: bad video quality, 1,8 GB every 20 minutes and audio desync... no comment! ...then I tried the second export format: ASF...thats OK, the result is good... audio finally is syncronized with video.
My system is Windows Vista SP2 (32bit) and Internet Explorer 8... I tried also from an other pc with Windows 7... same problems recording from browser interface.  I have installed on my system the lastest video codecs (for example: divx etc.).
For my usage I can use the Cisco Client but my ideal usage will be recording from browser.
I think these problems are very serious for a product as is this camera.
I hope there is a way to resolve they... maybe with a future firmware update or installing an other software.
    Thanks

  • Audio is off sync with videos on Ipod Touch.

My Ipod touch does not want to seem to play the audio in correct sync with my videos anymore. I have not done or changed a thing lately. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. I am running firmware 1.1.5

Update My iTouch is downgraded to 1.1.5 successfully. I used a pc that had an un updated version of iTunes installed (7.6) and after 2 attempts using the power off + home combination described in the firmware 1.1.5 post, I was able to successfully "restore" to the latest "1.1.5" iTouch software. When the touch reset, before establishing a sync relationship with the pc, I reattached it to my mac and selected "new ipod" rather than restore from backup. I then synced and tested on of the previously screwed up videos. It plays without any audio sync problems. This processes is more or less what the genius bar instructed me to do. I was reluctant to download any software not coming directly from apple. If anyone knows where the firmware file is stored on iTunes PC version, I would greatly appreciate the location. I want to save the file on my mac now that I know this is a good version. When Apple comes out with 2.1, I want to have a fall back.

  • Bluetooth audio not in sync with video on iPad 2 with iOS 6

I noticed that after I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 6, there was a problem with I use my A2DP Bluetooth headset (Jabra Halo) with my iPad 2. The audio is no longer in sync with the video playback! And it's really annoying. This problem does not exist when I plug in a headset to the iPad.
Is anyone else facing this issue? I only has one bluetooth headset so I'm not sure if this is a problem with my Jabra Halo headset or the iOS 6. This used to work without any issues with iOS 5.

  • Audio does not sync with videos

Sometimes when I download videos from iTunes, the audio and the video are not in sync. This has only started to happen since I upgraded to iTunes 7. Is there a way to fix this or is it a problem with the download process?

David, I'm monitoring the audio through the line out of my Mac Pro, using a small pair of powered computer speakers.
It's a system I've been using for years, and haven't had a problem w the audio waveform not matching the audio I hear, until now.
    Thanks for your response!

  • Audio not in Sync with Video in FCP

Hi People, i'm new to this, hoping to find some support.
I have Final Cut Studio 2, im doing an Apple Pro Training series book - 'Final Cut Pro-Beyond the Basics' and im having a problem of the audio not syncing with the video. If i simply play the sequence, the video is ahead by about 7 seconds, and if i stop and start playback (edit) it remains out of sync. However, if i let the sequence play through and loop, when it restarts at the beginning, it appears fine and all fixed, until i stop plyback and start it again. So, the only way to have it work right (to check my edit) is to continue to let the sequence loop and it fixes itself?? In QT it says the clip is DV 720 * 480, 23.98 fps, and so ive checked that in FCP, the settings are the same, and ive played around extensively with the real time plyback settings and sequence settings, but nothing fixes it apart from letting it play til it loops!!!???
    Has anyone had this??
Am i missing a setting here?? It seems to have been like this since the update to 10.5.3
    Thanx!

Hi People, i have found the answer to my question and thought i might post the cause so anyone else who gets caught can get it sorted.
The answer ended up being that i had an aggregate device as my audio interface (because i have 2 audio interfaces) and so the audio was being delayed in being processed. So i deleted the device in my Audio MIDI Setup (audio page) and thhus, its all good. Quite painfull after a FC reinstall! Ha!!
    Cheers

  • Audio not in sync with video in imovie 08 version 7.1.1

I am importing many Hi 8 tapes using a Sony video walkman GV-D800 thru a firewire 400 port on my Macbook pro, when I play it back in imovie the audio/voice is not in sync with the lip movement of the people in the video, there is a 1-3 second delay. If I play back the same video I captured using QuickTime Player there are no sync problems? I am new at this so what am I doing wrong?
BTW. I also imported HDV using my HDV camera and there are no sync problems at all. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Is this delay present on your exports or is it merely when previewing in imovie.

  • I just need a simple answer about audio being outa sync with video!!!!

I've been searching the forms but found no straight answer on how to make the audio in sync with the video when using videora to transfer movies. The movie plays fine until about 10 minutes, then it starts getting way off. I am tired so can someone come to my rescue?????????
    Windows XP   Windows XP Pro

The problem you are describing is a known issue with Videora. The author of the software even posted that problem on their website:
    Known Bugs
    Audio/Video sync
Problem - Output files can be out-of-sync. While no set pattern has been established, it seems to be more frequent with input files of 23.976 fps, non-DVD rips, and WMV/MPG filetypes.
Workaround solutions - Try the custom option '-async 1'. If the disconnect gradually increases over time, setting 29.97 fps sometimes gets rid of the problem regardless of the input fps. You can also use AviSynth to assume the FPS and have the audio sync to that. If it's a sudden disconnect, check your VOB Cell settings in DVD Decrypter settings per this thread. Otherwise, test with an AviSynth script per the DaProphecy's method in the FAQ. For non-DVD files, PSPVideo 9 may be a good short-term solution until the converter stabilizes some more or try something like AviDemux
I would suggest that you do some more research and switch to a different converter.

  • ITunes 11.01 on Windows 8 audio will not sync with video

I have a new computer that is running Windows 8, and I have had no issues with iTunes 11.01 thus far on it other than the fact that when playing videos, the audio will not sync up with the video.
With the ineptitude that seems to define Apple as of late, there does not seem to be any actual support for Windows 8, and the "support" channels do no good at all.
Any ideas as how to fix this problem?

I think Microsoft  made the Windows 8 incompatible with Apple products on purpose, they want windows users to have to download apps from their paid service which is more expensive than Apple's App/iTunes Store

  • Audio not in Sync with Video

When I play back the video from the camera, the audio is not synchronized with the video. The video appears to be behind by about 2 seconds. Is this normal or is there some setting to correct the problem?

Yes, there is a simple correction.
The problem is in your computer, it lacks enough power to operate to your satisfaction.
This has been posted before....... I reciently purchased a powerfull laptop because i could not enjoy my videos on my 2.4 mhz single core older computer.
Your camcorder is more powerfull than your computer is...Ha,Ha,Ha....
You can do as I did, set your Vado HD to VGA mode, this will ease the requirements of your computer a little...but then when you get a modern computer you will wish you had all your videos in HD+.........

  • Audio out of sync with video in timeline SOLVED

The audio and video are in sync when playing .MP4 video (but may apply to other video files) in the Premiere Pro viewer and Windows Media Player and VLC however, as soon as you drag the clip into the timeline it goes out of sync. Since it took so much time for me to figure out how to get around this problem I wanted to share this, ESPECIALLY For all the people who are semi Adobe Premiere noobs (with no disrespect, I fall into this category) at this and google isn't helping to figure out why this is happening I'll give you the easy fix.  For all the people in this forum who are going to ask the detailed information, codecs, etc.  I'll give that as well.
    FOR THE NOOBS:
All the information I've read online all seems to point that the timeline sometimes doesn't like certain audio contained in the video. It conforms incorrectly, etc. Personally, it doesn't make any sense to me. Forget all that.. you just want to get on with your project.. to heck with the details, you're tired of googling.  Here's the solution I found.  Extracting the audio from the problematic video file outside of Adobe Premiere.  I use avconv, because it's free, open source, and you won't lose audio quality.  Then linking that audio with the video in Adobe Premiere.
First if you are using a windows 32 bit computer download avconv here: http://win32.libav.org/win32/
If you are using a windows 64 bit computer download avconv here: http://win32.libav.org/win64/
go to the bottom of the page and click on the newest date version.  DISCLAIMER: This is open source software. It's free.  I didn't make it so I'm not trying to sell you anything.
It's a zip file so you will need to use winzip or 7zip to uncompress it.  You can't just click on the installer. You can uncompress and save the program wherever you want on your computer.  Say you didn't pay attention and you automatically saved it in the default spot in your downloads folder.  The place you'd find the program might look like this if you're on a 64 bit computer:
C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win64  If you're on a 32 bit computer it will probably look like this C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win32
Just make sure you know where it is located and copy it down in notepad.  If you can't find it, do a search on your C: drive for avconv  .For this forum thread we will assume you have saved avconv in the downloads folder and you're on a 64 bit computer.
Click on the Windows key on your keyboard. Type in Run and then press enter. Type in CMD and press enter.  This will open up windows command line. Don't worry, it's not as scary as you think.
Now hold down the Windows key and press E. This will open up a windows explorer window for you to find the video file you are having issues with in Adobe Premiere.  Once you have found the file, copy the location of the file.  So..  if your file was here:  c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.mp4 you would see that at the top of the windows explorer in what's called the address bar.  Copy that.  Paste it into your notepad.
Now switch back to the windows command line window.  Now I'm going to have you type a command into the windows command line but before you do I want you to understand how to type it in.
#1. Do you know the exact path (location on your computer) where you installed avconv?
#2. Did you copy the exact path (location on your computer) where you have your video file?
If so..  type in the command below but change it with the information you have above
    C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win64\usr\bin\avconv.exe -i "c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.mp4" -vn -qscale 1 "c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.wav"
So let's break it down so you understand and help troubleshoot any issues you may have.
C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win64  this is the example location we said we installed avconv.  The actual avconv.exe program is located inside that folder so the full path would be this: C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win64\usr\bin\avconv.exe
-i just tells avconv what the input file is.
"c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.mp4" is the path (location on your computer) where your video file is.
-vn just tells avconv you only want to extract audio from the video
-qscale 1 just tells avconv you want the best quality
"c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.wav" just tells avconv the path (location on your computer) and the name you want to give the audio file you're taking from the video.  This will save the audio wav file to the path (location on your computer) where the problematic video file is saved.
Once you have the audio wav file import it into Adobe Premiere.  In the timeline, unlink the audio from the mp4 (or whatever video file you have).  Highlight the now unlinked mp4 audio and delete the audio.  Then bring your audio wav file you created using avconv and bring it onto the timeline at the start of the video. Now link it.  Hopefully that did the trick.
If you have any questions regarding the command line or installing avconv please feel free to comment and ask.  I'm pretty good at windows command line and can probably help identify what the issue is.
FOR THE INFORMED PREMIERE PRO USERS:
Here are the details of the problematic video file that I had this issue with.  This is from avconv:

I don't know the type make/model video camera that was used or if it was converted before being given to me. This is just what i had to work with and the solution I found to fix it.

if you are using a windows 32 bit computer
Then you won't be using anything above Premiere Pro CS4, and this thread would be in the wrong section.
By the way, the process is significantly easier using something like Xvid4PSP, which can strip out the audio using a fairly easy to understand GUI, as wel as convert those oddball videos into something PP can handle.

  • Audio is not synced with video after Exporting QuickTime Movie

I have Canon DSLR footage shot 24p/1080p on the timeline. Timeline settings are the same as the Canon footage settings.
When I Export a QuickTime Movie, the audio is out of sync...
Can someone please help with this issue...
    Thanks,

Don't tell me...you edited the files the camera shoots without converting, right? The camera shoots H.264...FCP doesn't like to work with H.264. The problem is that it SEEMS like it will work, but really is rife with issues when trying to work with it. You have encountered one...loss of sync.
The proper workflow is to convert the footage first...
    #51 - Canon 5D MkII / Canon 7D footage into FCP
Shane's Stock Answer #51 - how do you bring in footage from the Canon 5D and 7D cameras into FCP to edit?
You need to convert all of the Canon 5D MkII footage from the H.264 format that it records, to ProRes 422 (ProRes HQ is unnecessary...no quality difference)  Yes, the file sizes get drastically larger.  H.264 is an acquisition and delivery format, not an editing one.
You can use the Canon EOS Log and Transfer plugin that works with the 1D, 5D and 7D cameras.  This plugin is great because it brings in the camera's TIME OF DAY as timecode, instead of starting each clip at 00:00:00:00 like Compressor or other conversion software will do.
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&mo delid=17662#DownloadDetailAct
Here is a tutorial on how to use it:
    http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/ssimmons/story/canon_releases_a_dslr_plug _in_for_final_cut_pros_log_and_transfer_tool/
And the workflow for tapeless ingest into FCP:
    http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1
But for a quick fix...change your SEQUENCE SETTINGS to ProRes...render, and then export.

When I watch a TV show or movie on iTunes the audio moves much faster than the video.  Very distracting.  Suggestions for fix?  I have the latest version of iTunes.

Try the tips in this Apple document -> iTunes and QuickTime for Windows: Audio does not play or plays incorrectly
If they don't work, try downloading something else from the Free On iTunes section of the iTunes Store.
