Audio not auto switching when plugging headphones in

I just wanted to see if anyone has encountered this yet. Both my Macbook Pro (2011) and Mac Pro (2011), have recent installs of Yosemite, the MBP a fresh install, the Mac Pro and upgrade. Each have a cinema display (mini display port) plugged in. When I plug my headphones in to the headphone port, the audio does not auto switch to them and continues to play through my Cinema Display. On Mavericks this was not the case, now each time I want to use my headphones I have to manually switch the audio over to them.

I've been having the same issue, I would say it's Thunderbolt display related but I believe I had the issue with my home laptop (no display).
When I plug my headphones in, they're ignored and sound continues to play out of the system or display speakers. I have to go into the Sound preferences and select headphones as the output. Annoyingggg

  • Failover Cluster in SQL 2012 in not auto switch when stop service SQL

    Good Morning to all,
I'm Mr.Tuyen from VietNam. I have a big problem with AlwaysOn High Availabity in SQL 2012.
I setup 3 server and join Availabilty Group. Ex: Server A (Primary), Server B (Secondary), Cluster Qourum is only node. I have test:
    1. Stop service SQL server A, immediately server B is Primary
Start servicel SQL server A, Server A is secondary
    2. Stop service SQL server B, server is not Primary and "status is Resloving" and role cluster failed with error as belows
[i]Clustered role 'XXX' has exceeded its failover threshold. It has exhausted the configured number of failover attempts within the failover period of time allotted to it and will be left in a failed state. No additional attempts will be made to bring the role
online or fail it over to another node in the cluster. Please check the events associated with the failure. After the issues causing the failure are resolved the role can be brought online manually or the cluster may attempt to bring it online again after
    the restart delay period.[/i]
    or
The Cluster service failed to bring clustered role 'XXX' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered role.
    Do you have same error?

  • Cover Art will not auto load when CD is loaded

For the latest itunes 11 on win 7 the cover art will not auto load when i load a cd...I can and do fetch the art from itunes apple central afterward with no problem using the get album art feature....
I looked for the old click box in one of the pull down features that used to say more or less....auto load the art on loading a cd....but i can no longer find that choice...
    got any suggestions????

I agree....I won't take anything less than 300X300 and that is a stretch when doing google searches, since I have it playing on a 42" screen. Soundtracks, I have yet to figure out - if I think through the cover art that I did for soundtracks, I specifically remember settting Album Artist to Various Artists and compilation to Yes. There is about 4 genre's though for soundtrack (soundtrack, soundtracks, orginal soundtrack, something like that)and a lot of these, at least from my experience, were not in itunes. garden state, boogie nights, sat night fever all had to get somewhere else.
If you find out let me know

  • [SOLVED] Alsa: How to disable auto-mute when plugging in headphones?

I have a set of headphones plugged into my workstation permanently (the headphone jack is hard to reach so I don't want to plug those headphones in and out) as well as some speakers. Jack sensing works perfectly - when I unplug the headphones, the speakers are unmuted and when I plug the headphones back in the speakers are muted. Now as I said, my headphones are plugged in permanently and occasionally I want to have sound on the speakers at the same time. So far I have not found a way to have both headphones and speakers unmuted simultaneously.
I originally thought this was a problem with Pulseaudio (I am using Cinnamon as my desktop) but when I directly go to the Alsa hw device I get exactly the same behavior. The sound chip is a built-in VIA VT1818S and aplay displays the correct cards and devices:
    $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: VT1818S Analog [VT1818S Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: VT1818S Digital [VT1818S Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 2: VT1818S HP [VT1818S HP]

card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I verified with "mpg123 -a hw:0,0" that I get no sound on the speakers when the headphones are plugged in and vice versa. I tried a lot of different settings with alsamixer and amixer to no avail. These are my current settings:
    $ amixer -c 0 contents

If I read the Alsa kernel docs right, the VIA driver simply does not provide any option to disable auto-muting: http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-ker … xt;hb=HEAD.
I would be glad if I had misread/misunderstood something or there were any other means of achieving what I am after? All I found so far is lots of posts where auto-muting did not work but very few people seem to want the opposite. FWIW, my old installation of Ubuntu 11.10 was working fine in that regard, i.e. it probably did not support auto-muting for my hardware.

Solved, well, good enough for me anyway. In alsamixer, I enabled "Independent HP". Independent HP means that two of the six surround channels get diverted to the headphones. Alsa creates a second device, one for line out and the other one for the headphones. It is a very neat feature that is meant to allow you to e.g. do a voice call with your headphones while you play music through the speakers at the same time. I can now choose in PulseAudio whether I want output to my headphones or the speakers. It required that in /etc/pulse/default.pa, I added the line "load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,2" after this paragraph:
    ### Automatically load driver modules depending on the hardware available
    .ifexists module-udev-detect.so
    load-module module-udev-detect
    .else
    ### Use the static hardware detection module (for systems that lack udev support)
    load-module module-detect
    .endif
    # Take Independent HP into use.
    load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,2
All this really is a work-around for two bugs:
Call it a bug or a missing feature, but it does not look like the Alsa snd_hda_codec_via driver allows to disable auto-muting.
Before the change to default.pa, PulseAudio already allows me to switch between two output devices - "analog output" and "analog headphones". "Analog headphones" however does the same thing as "analog output" and plays sound on the external speakers and not the headphones. I suspect that the PulseAudio module-udev-detect detects both Alsa devices but wires them wrongly.
The above still doesn't give me what I originally asked, i.e. sound on both speakers and headphones at the same time, but I realized that I don't really need that. I just need a way to switch on speakers occasionally while my headphones are plugged in.

  • HELP! iPad not showing up when plugged in

Hi, I am getting really frustrated because my iPad first gen does not show up at all when plugged into my windows 8 laptop. There is no icon in the bottom right corner, no sound, nothing in my computer or iTunes. I've updated my iTunes and restarted everything, switched USB ports and cords... but the laptop is just not recognizing it. The laptop is new(I haven't synced the iPad to it before), but I have authorized it and there were no problems with my iPhone. I really need to connect my iPad to iTunes to update it, as the system is old and many apps are no longer supported. If anyone could help me I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

  • Not staying on when plugged in and charging.

    Hi all,
I just switched from a Galaxy Nexus to the S4.  One thing I'm seeing that the screen doesn't remain on when plugged in via the micro-usb cord like on the Nexus.  Handy when I'm driving, and it wouldn't lock after the set time.  With the S4, I'm seeing it just turns right off when plugged in at the chosen turn off time selected.
I have a couple of stay on apps but since I forget things, I'm afraid I will forget to turn them off.
Is it possible to set it so it will stay on when plugged in?  If not, then I'll rely on the toggle to keep the screen on.
    Thanks for your help.

Shoot!  I forgot a step ... those options are hidden with the latest update.
settings > more > about phone
scroll down to Build Number and tap it five times
you should get a pop-up that says Developer Options Enabled
Back all the way out, then follow the instructions above.

  • Help, iTunes refuses to not auto launch when iPhone connected to computer

Hi, anyone else have this obnoxious problem? I unchecked "auto syncing" and all of the possible disabling options in iTunes>Preferences. Another forum I visted mentioned disabling iTunes Helper. I am having a problem launching iTunes Helper because I did a search from the main Windows Start area (lower left of computer screen), and iTunes Helper does show up with a .exe extension showing it's an application. However, when I click on it, it just disappears. It's also not listed in "My Programs" or when I run "msconfig". Is finding iTunes Helper so I can disable it what I need here to keep iTunes from auto launching when the iPhone is connected, or is my solution in doing something else? I'm using iTunes 9.0.25 Any solid help here is much appreciated!

I don't have an iPhone but I imagine it is probably similar to using an iPod. When I connect the iPod to the computer and it shows up in iTunes under devices, click on the device (iPhone), in the device screen that appears there is an options section that has a check-box "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected." Un-check it.

    Hi Lemenos,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Do you have any "hacks" installed your iBook? Try going to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter (next to Settings For:) > Processor Performance > Try faster or reduced and see if one works better. What are you doing when this happens? Do you notice any patterns? You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #17228 on Portables: Jumpy or Erratic Trackpad Operation and Knowledge Base Document #58389 on Your PowerBook and iBook's trackpad doesn't respond. Is the wall socket grounded? How can you tell if its electrical or static? What does it feel like? Try touching something metal to ground yourself before touching (bed frame) and see if you still get a shock. You should not get an electric shock from the button, if you do stop touching it. Bring it to your local Apple Store/Reseller.

  • Iphone not auto syncing when connected

i have the auto sync when connected option enabled on itunes, but when i plug my phone in, nothing happens.
when i launch itunes, then dis- and reconnect the phone, it's fine and syncs everything. ideas? this just started happening.

I've always had to open iTunes, then plug in phone for it to see it. I've never been able to just plug in my iPhone and watch iTunes get pulled up automatically like with my iPod. I just figured this is normal.

  • HT5234 what if the if the light does not turn on when plug in?

What if the the light does not turn on when you connect you adapter to you macbook pro?

I'm going to go ahead and assume that you're talking about your MagSafe power adapter.  Mine does this occasionally.  Generally, if I turn it over, the light shows as lit on the other side.  Sometimes I do have to plug it in a time or two before the light on the adapter will turn on (orange or green).

I am trying to create a simulation with audio, mouse movement, mouse clicks and screen changes. When I play the movie in Flash, the animation and the audio are timed properly. However, when I package it, the animation falls behind the audio. I am using wavs for the audio - I've tried mp3s also.
I have a screen displayed with a mouse. The audio and a highlight indicate the next step, then the mouse moves and clicks the desired area - with a audio mouse click. The first "click" sound is pretty close to where it is supposed to be, but as the movie plays, it begins to occur earlier and earlier. So much so, that the audio starts to begin prior to animation is complete later in the move. This is not a real long demonstration, only about 1100 frames, but I notice the problem around frame 180.
    Any suggestions?

IE stinks. There's a huge performance difference when playing
    SWFs in
Firefox and IE. We have seen SWFs reach 100fps in FF 3.0
    while the same SWF
taps out at around 40fps in the latest IE browser. It's not
    Flash, it is the
    browser.
