Audio notification of (gmail) email?

I use a couple of gmail (and Google Apps) accounts for work - I read email on my MBP or using the Mail client in on my iPhone 4S.
I'd like to go about my day without checking email every ten minutes, but when I receive an important email (e.g. from my boss, or a client), I'd like to be notified immediately, i.e. in some audible way.
How can I do this? Can I set up the iPhone Mail client to beep (only) when email shows up from a specific address? Can I set it up to notify me via SMS to my ATT phone or my Google Voice account?

Okay, after many months of noodling over this ... I have a working hack:
1) My main account is "gmail1." In iPhone Mail, set gmail1 to Manual updates.
2) Create a new account, "yahoo1." No one has this address, so it won't receive any spam.
3) In gmail1, set up filters to forward (only) the urgent/important messages to yahoo1.
4) Set up iPhone Mail to connect to yahoo1.
5) Within iPhone Mail, set the Fetch interval to "Every 15 Minutes."
6) Within iPhone Mail, set yahoo1 to Fetch and reconfirm that gmail1 is on Manual.
7) Settings->Sounds->New.Mail to the sound of your choice.
Voila! Audio notification of urgent emails within 15 minutes at the most.
(This works equally well if you receive urgent messages to multiple accounts (gmail1 ... gmailN). Just set up forwarding filters from each to yahoo1.)

No, this is not the case at all. Every device that receives email will notify you in whatever what it's set to.

E71: audio notifications for email using Mail for ...

I can't get audio (or, for that matter vibrate) notifications for incoming email messages in my Mail for Exchange (MFE) account.
My phone is a Nokia E71-2 and I recently upgraded to firmware version 200.21.118 to see if that would cure the problem, but it did not. I've checked the Profile settings and made sure that email notifications are turned on, but audio notifications still dont work. For a while, I used Yahoo mail and the notifications seemed to work just fine for my Yahoo account. Unfortunately, I'm much more interested in using my MFE email account. I thought that perhaps the settings only applied to my Yahoo account so I have deleted it from the phone. The only active email account on my phone today is the MFE account - but still no audio notifications.
Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.

I am not sure if this will work for you guys since I am in the US, but I think I figured out the issue. You need to change the settings for the home screen to alert you when messages arrive in the Mail for Exchange section.
To do this:
Menu > Settings > General > Personalization > Home Screen > (Make sure Home Screen is ACTIVE) Mode Settings > Home Screen Applications > E-mail 1 Notification > Select Mail for Exchange
That should work.

Just got a new macbook air I added 2 google email accounts to the mail program. The mail downloaded thousands of emails and now on the top right hand corner I get bombarded by notification of these emails from 3-4 years ago and it is non stop.

I am not sure why it is notifying me of old emails I know it is new just downloaded in the program but it should only notify me of recent emails shouldn't it?

If your email client (Mail) it set to never delete emails from the server, they stay there waiting. The server doesn't track what you've already downloaded, so a new setup of Mail just grabs whatever it finds on the server. You can change this in Settings, but for now, you have all your old emails to sort.

If a person is using your email address, you should change your email password and make sure there aren't any forwards to some strange email address.
An example if you were using gmail, under account settings, a forward can be set up to send messages to another email address.
If your email address is say, you own domain, such as somename@somename dot com, make sure the forwards are forwards you set up.
If your email account was hacked and the bad guy has access, you need to cut him off, first by changing the password and second cut off any message forwarding to the bad guy if he set it up. Just changing the password would keep a bad guy out, but if the bad guy set up a forward, he will still get your email.
A confirmation from Apple would have come to your email address in order to confirm that Apple ID. If you are getting the other person's purchase notifications, you would have gotten a confirmation of that account from Apple.

Work email and gmail both on BB w/separate outlook icons. Gmail emails go into both.

My work gave me a blackberry that was already set up with outlook for my work email. I installed facebook on my BB. I also went thru set up wizard and set up a 2nd email address for my gmail account. This installed a 2nd outlook icon where my gmails go into. However, all of my gmail emails also go into the outlook icon where my work emails go. They go into both. How can I get it so that gmail emails go into the gmail account outlook icon only, and not the work one?
Also, my facebook notifications go into my work email on BB, not the gmail account on BB, even though my facebook account has my gmail email as the associated email address. How do I resolve this?

For the FB issue, I believe that FB integrates to the Messages application on the BB rather than to the specific GMail BIS icon.
Your Messages icon is not your work icon, btw -- it is the Messages app on your BB, which handles all messaging on your BB.

Notification sound for email on iphone

I just switched to 5c and want to to be able to get a text and mail notification when phone is in sleep mode. But I can not change it to push. I saw a tutorial on YouTube that shows how to change a gmail acct to push through an exchange acct. my questions are what is an exchange and will I lose my email if I you it or even get emails at all? Is there a way to get these messages when my phone is in sleep or without opening the mail

I'm not up to date on the exchange solution but if your only email account is the Gmail one, you might consider using the Gmail App instead of the Apple Mail app. It will give you email notifications while the phone is in sleep mode and works well for me. Sure, through the headphones you can get an audio notification from mail. Not sure with meebo never used it on my ipod touch.

Double Push Notifications for Gmail - How to stop

Hi .. I'm getting 2 mail notifications for all email received via Gmail; one for my In-Box and another for the All Mail folder on iPhone and iPad. Gmail is set up for push in IMAP on both devices using Exchange.
Push works well but kind of annoying to receive 2 notifications for every email received. On my Mac, I only get one. I want to be able to see email across multiple devices including iphone, ipad, mac and on-line. But just want one notification for my in-box on IOS.
Any suggestions on how to fix would be appreciated. Have tried unchecking IMAP in Gmail Settings/Labels and that doesn't make any difference.

Just once. I think it has to do with gmail receiving a notification to my inbox and the all-mail folder in gmail; but I can't figure out how to set up so it only advise a new email once. I'm using the native email application on my ipad and iphone.

The quesion is as above. I have iPod Touch 4 generation with latest iOS version, I use Gmail and Hotmail. I can read new email only when I go to Mail application, but I don't get any instant notification of incoming emails like on my BlackBerry.
Is there any way/setting to get instant notifications?

Gmail will be pushed to your ipod, hotmail has to be fetched because it's a POP account. If you have it set to 15 minutes, (which is as often as it will check) it will check your hotmail server every 15 minutes to see if you have new email.
You'll also want to make sure that it's always connected to a wifi network in order to get those notifications.

HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome. Extra large font sizes and weird formatting issues only when printing emails from Gmail within Chrome. No problems when printing the same email from Gmail+Internet Exolorer or Thunderbird. Using the IE Tab extension in Chrome prints the email correctly but the style of Gmail's message window is completely weird ie: formatting bar is spread out vertically instead of horizontally. I believe it is clear that this is an application specific issue between the HP LASERJET CP1525nw printer and Google Chrome + Gmail. This printing scenario does not occur when printing anything else or when printing via another printer. I would appreciate receiving any suggestions to solve this issue.

I decided to change email from gmail to icloud so I setup an icloud email account and now I have two apple id accounts. All my primary information is in the gmail apple id account and i just want to merge the two together. I've tried changing the apple id on the main account to the icloud email, but it says it already exists. How can I merge these two accounts without deleting one or the other?

You can't merge iCloud accounts.
You could move all your calendars contacts etc over from the account you don't want to the one you do, it's not simple but about all I can suggest.

Why does it take a few minutes for gmail emails to be forwarded to my icloud account on my Mac Book?

Suddenly, my gmail emails which have always been set to automatically forward to my icloud account on my, laptop (especially slow now), and iPad, are now taking several minutes for them to forward.
Why is this?
I did recently update to Yosemite. Could this be why? I have never had this issue.

Just to rule out Gmail, I have been having the exact same issue from a private-domain email account. Like you, I recently upgraded to Yosemite and I'd say the timeframe roughly corresponds to that. I've seen delays of as much as three or four hours, in fact. Crazy.
