Audio off cue

My problem is this. Last night I captured two entire tapes onto my computer by using the input as a non-controllable source. Now that it is all captured, for some reason the audio is off cue on the two tapes. I captured 3 in all. The first tape I captured captured fine, but the other two messed up. They're all shot at 29.97fps and 48.0KHz on a miniDV camcorder.
When I first play the video, it seems on cue, but over time it goes off cue. Does anyone have an idea?

Mark -- there are a number of reasons for this... none of them really good answers though.
Did you happen to shoot using two different cameras? Some have a harder time locking audio to 48k. If you check the audio rate of the clips that slip you'll more than likely see some rate of 48.1123 or 47.9998. That's not good.
FCP tries to make up for the non48k sample rate by dinking with the lenght. Buggy for sure.
Try these options:
1) Open it up in QT -- did it play fine there?? If so, re-export as DVNTSC 48K (or pal) and import that file into FCP.
2) Capture in chunks of 15 minutes or less. Usually FCPs capturing process can deal with that lenght AND faulty audio rates.
Good luck,

  • Rip audio off DVD

    I got a star also and I guessed at half my answer... oh, where has quality control gone these days? • Need help getting audio off of a dvd...

    [You can skip this paragraph if you don't need the backstory.]
    So, for several weeks I've been trying to get some audio off of a DVD of mine and into a simple mp3 file. A couple days ago I found and followed this guide, and thought I had succeeded. But after a while I realized that the file I got does not play nice with my handheld mp3 player, or mpd, or mplayer, or anything whatsoever that is not gstreamer-based. MPD goes especially berserk - after playing the file, it can no longer play anything else until I reboot (yes reboot - restarting mpd doesn't fix anything). I should also mention that I'm aware that the guide is not 100% correct; I followed the advice and corrections of some commentors there too.
    Anyways, I guess I need to ask for help with this. How would you go about getting audio off of a DVD?

    I usually use the following command to rip a music dvd to wav:
    OUTPUTDIR="/Some/Rip/Dir"
    TITLE=2
    FIRST_CHAPTER=1
    LAST_CHAPTER=13
    CHAPTER=$FIRST_CHAPTER
    AUDIO_ID=128
    echo "Ripping Audio..."
    while [ $CHAPTER -le $LAST_CHAPTER ]; do
    let NO=$CHAPTER
    mplayer -dvd-device /dev/dvd1 dvd://$TITLE -vo null -vc null -ao pcm:waveheader:file=$OUTPUTDIR/track$NO.wav -af lavcresample=44100 -aid $AUDIO_ID -chapter $CHAPTER-$CHAPTER
    let CHAPTER=CHAPTER+1
    done
    Resampling to 44100 is important since most mp3 players cannot handle 48000.
    Then I have another little script that converts it to flac, sets the correct tags, and finally converts the flac to oggs as well..

    Hi chuckcox!
    Thanks for posting.
    There is not a port on the EOS 70D that allows headphones to be connected for monitoring audio.  However, the camera does have an HDMI port, which carries an audio signal.  You can send the HDMI signal to an external monitor that does allow you to connect headphones and monitor the audio.

  • Can I 'Rip' Audio Off a Clip in iMovie?

    I'm a Mac and iMovie 'newbie', and am wondering if I'm able to pull the audio off of a clip that I have loaded into iMovie to use in another clip (i.e. I have a shot where I want/need the audio to lay-over another clip, but don't need the clip itself)?
    If I can't do this in iMovie, does anyone know whether the capability exists in Final Cut Express?
    Thanks kindly everyone!
    John C

    I am having a similar problem. I bought my Mac a few months ago and am just getting into using imovie. I think it's great but I really want to detach my audio from a video I just made so I can import it into Garageband but the detach audio function is gray on my edit droptab along with some other functions. Do I need to buy another version of imovie for this feature to work seeing as how I'm using the version that came standard with my computer, or am I just not doing the operation correctly?

  • Trouble capturing audio off a hi 8 camcorder

    struggling to capture audio off a hi8 camcorder

    Different hi8 Camcorders have different capabilities.  Try capturing as a non-controllable device and see if it makes a difference.
    Ultimately you may need to use something like a Canopus 300 device.

  • Turning the Audio off...

    Hello !!
    I would love to turn all of the audio off for my entire project.
    However, my media files were captured with audio. It is taking up extra room on my hard-drive and I do not need it. Thank you for your help...

    Audio is captured with video; both are in the same clip file.
    First, you need to understand that audio takes up a trivial amount of disk space compared to video; and even if you do delete the audio you are only going to free up a small amount of disk space, perhaps none if your clip files are small.
    You can turn off the audio (as compared to deleting it) in the Timeline in FCE. One way is to simply +mute the audio+ by clicking the green audibility button on the left end of the track. Or you could +separate the audio+ tracks from the video track; +and then delete+ the audio tracks from the timeline - however, this does not physically delete the audio from the original clip on your hard drive, it only removes it from the timeline.
    If you really want to physically delete the audio then you have work to do. Open the clip in FCE, place it in the Timeline, then Export the clip to QuickTime Movie - make sure that you CHECK the option called "Make Movie Self-Contained" and *Include > Video Only*. After you have exported the clip, you will have a clip that contains video only. Then you will have to delete the original clip from your hard drive and replace it with the clip you just exported.
    Or you could use QuickTime Pro. Open your clip in QT Pro, then Export it to QuickTime Movie, select Options & then UNcheck 'Sound'. After it's done, you will have to delete the original clip from your hard drive and replace it with the clip you just exported.

  • Taking audio off a DVD

    Other than playing the DVD on the Computer, connecting an audio cable from the headset jack out to a vtr or similar device, recording the dvd audio to tape and then re-digitizing that audio back in, is there an easy way to get audio off a DVD into Final Cut Pro 4.5?

  • Want to just record audio off a home made movie to listen on a Cd or iPod

    Hi,
    I am trying to get the audio off a video I recorded of a presentation so I can listen with iPod. Can I do this with GarageBand?
    I have the movie clip converted in GB already. Just cannot figure out how to grab the audio.
    Thanks for any help
    Jim

    You should have the movie's audio as a track in GB, don't you? Just hide the video track and share the audio to disk.

  • DVD Studio Pro subtitles off cue

    Everytime I try to import a video into DVD Studio Pro 3, it shortens the length slightly. Is this a problem with frames per second? Does anyone know how I could solve this? Generally it wouldn't be a problem, but I am also importing subtitles, so now all of the subtitles are off cue. Does anyonne know of a way I could possibly make it so the subtitles would all move into proper order if not re-timing the video properly? Thank you all very much.

    How are you coming up with the timing for your subtitle file? Are you using something he's sent you, or are you doing it yourself with the converted files you described?
    I know about "raw" formats in still photography; didn't know about a "raw" codec for video. Were you able to successfully convert it to MPEG2? If so, you want to do that. If you convert it to other things like H.264 or DV, you will just have to convert it again to MPEG2 as that is what DVD-Video requires.
    DO NOT stretch the video to fit the subtitles! That would be like cutting off your legs because you're too long for your bed. Sorry, it'd be like getting put on the rack because you're too short for your bed.
    It sounds like your subtitle file was created using drop-frame timing (29.97fps) and for whatever reason, the conversions involved with getting the file from PC (and "raw" AVI... my guess is that it started out as something before that) to your Mac and the various formats you've tried, has resulted in the video being non-drop-frame (30fps). The video will appear to be almost four seconds faster than the subtitles as a result over the course of an hour. (I think I have that right.)
    Note that if you are using Compressor to convert to MPEG2, you can force it to be drop-frame, which will hopefully get it to agree with your subtitles. But part of it again depends on how the subtitle file was created.

  • Please Help!  Audio off on imported .mp4 files (but fine everywhere else).

    Hello,
    I am trying to trouble shoot a problem.  I am a beginner when it comes to the technical end of this so please forgive me if I don’t post the correct information.  Hopefully somebody here can help or point me in the right direction.
    My problem is this:  I’m using Skype on my (windows 7 ultimate) pc to make group video calls.  I use Skype along with the program Evaer in order to record the video and audio of each person on the call separately.  It records it using the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Codec.  At 1280 X 720 and 30fps.  The video files have the audio in them as well.  However it also records a separate .mp3 with everyones audio at 265 BitRate and 48000 SampleRate.  So after the group call (with 3 people) is finished I will have three .mp4 video files w/ audio (1 for each person on the call) and 1 .mp3 file.  If I open any of the video files in Windows Media Play they play just fine.  But when I bring the file into Adobe Premiere CS6 for editing, the audio is completely off.  What can I do to fix this?
    I did “interperate footage” for the file and this is what it shows:
    File Path: F:\VIDEO RECAP\ call1.mp4
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 1.3 GB
    Image Size: 1280 x 720
    Frame Rate: 28.47
    Source Audio Format: 16000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
    Project Audio Format: 32000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00;57;55;04
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
    I want to edit this in HD.  So the project setting I choose is “HDV 720p30fps”.  I import my file, and then drag it into to the time line.  It says that the sequence settings are wrong, and so I tell it to change them automatically (I have also to it to leave them) either way it doesn’t matter.  When I play back the video .mp4 in Premiere CS6 the audio is completely off.
    So is there some setting I need to tweak?  Is it the project settings that are wrong?  Or could it be a problem with my graphics, and sound card?  I just dont understand why it plays fine in WMP but not in Adobe.  Any help or advice would be truly appreciated.  If you need any more info, just let me know.
    Thanks!

    Is there any more info that would help you guys?  I still cant figure this out.

  • Audio off when converting from mov to flv

    I have an mov file that I am trying to convert with the media encoder, but when I run it through, it throws off the audio just slightly. I have tried converting to flv and mp4 with the same results. What is causing this? Can I fix it? I need to be able to convert the file so I can use it in a Captivate project.

    I resolved the issue.  I googled the issue and the answer was right there. Turns out that one audio clip (out of dozens in the project) was somehow corrupted. A small yellow triangle was the indication.  Once I deleted that clip all of the other audio came back into the project.  I simply pasted a fresh version of that audio clip into the project and the all was not lost.

  • Audio off Sync with Video Podcast....

    Somehow I always have trouble downloading Video Podcast. I Usually find myself having to download each episode 3 or times because iTunes hardly gets it done the first time, and when It's done successfully, the audio is off sync with the Video. I have the latest version of iTunes
    Custom   Windows XP

    I've seen that problem in several threads, both here and in the Mountain Lion forum. I tried to replicate the problem but was unable to do so... so it's not a problem effecting all Macs. Try posting here - in the Mountain Lion forum - and see what you get as a search. There's one specific "More Like This" to the right on this thread but there doesn't seem to have been a solution posted.
