Audio on other end mutes when I talk

I just upgraded to OS X Mavericks from Lion, and I'm in a call with someone on mobile. When I talk or any noises are made on my end, the mobile's mic seems to mute.

I don't know any fixes for OS X. I only have a solution for Windows which is below. Maybe you can find and equivalent for OS.
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
I have tried fixing this problem for somebody else and he said it worked.
What I did was: Go to Control Panel, then go to Sound, then go to Communications tab. There, you have four options for what you want Windows to do when it detects communication. Select "Do nothing", the last option and then click Apply and Ok.
This should work on at least Windows 7 and 8.
Let us know if it works.
Regards.

Let's add some voice to your device! What's the make and model of your device? Does your device work with headphones and or speaker? Do you hear notification sounds? Please share details on this.

  • Keypad or other screens "opening" when I talk on the phone... Why??

Whenever I talk on the phone, the keypad pops up or my face ends up hitting buttons like "mute" or "speaker".  It's driving me (and the people I call) crazy!  Why is it doing this and more importantly, how do I make it stop??  Help!!

yes, the suggestion would be to observe Forum etiquette and search for an answer before posting.  Your question is asked multiple times daily and yet another post is not needed.
Type in "other people can't hear me" in the search box at the top of the page.

  • No Audio from Other End

I have a problem that only happens when I call my parents using FaceTime. It happens randomly no matter which device we're using to talk. Sometimes we'll talk for 20 minutes and then all of a sudden the audio cuts out. They can hear and see me but I can only see them but not hear them. It's always that same scenario. Sometimes we can't even begin the discussion. They are on a fairly reliable 2d/1uGb connection and I'm on a 10d/1uGb connection. I use FaceTime regularly with others and never have this issue. Any ideas?

I have not had this issue for quite some time now. I think it stopped after the latest OSX update.

  • Have video, no audio on other end

I have an intel mac....I just tried video chatting with a friend and we could see each other and I could hear him but he couldn't hear me. Checking what I think was all of my mic equipment, it looked like it should be working....can anyone help?

"I don't think I've ever even opened Garageband so that's not an issue"
That's excactly the problem, it's a little bug.
Open Garageband, try to make some noice on the keyboard that will appear and quit. Then open iChat and iTunes both. Select a song in itunes.
Click on the buddylist below your name, in stead of "available" select"show
    current iTunes track". .
Try to chat with your buddy and see wether the audio is fine. (iTunes will mute whilst chatting).
This will get the audio going. If not invite one another a couple of times in turn.
Sounds stupid I know, it worked for me though.

  • No audio on other end of call

If I call a contact on Skype through my Xbox One, they can't hear me, if I go to another device and do this, the audio is there. Solution please?

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

I frequently lose audio when in the middle of a call.  I am not certain whether it is a full disconnect or just an audio loss.  The person on the other end reports still being able to hear me, however, I suppose they could hear me speaking over another source even if bluetooth disconnected. The loss of audio is always preceded by a quick shrill noise, so I can easily tell when it happens.  All I have to do to fix the problem is to select Audio Source on the call screen, temporarily switch audio back to the iPhone, and then switch back to the headset, and then it starts working again.
My Iphone5 was replaced and having same Problem. Only does this when using bluetooth for talking.

I have the exact same issue... I've been using a Jabra Extreme2 and just this weekend, bought a Plantronics Marque2 and today had the same issue, so it's clearly not the headset but the phone or OS.
I might try a restore and see if it helps...

I saw one post where a user said dust got inside the small microphone hole. Using a vacuum cleaner removed the dust and restored the audio.

Alex, thanks for the reply but it did not answer my question. I only want to turn off notifications & interruptions while I am on the phone. For this desired result, the only way the Do Not Disturb feature would help is if I manually turned it on before each phone conversation. Since my phone rings at random times, this is not possible. Basically, I just want to "opt out" of call-waiting. When I had a landline I never had call waiting. I don't want to be interrupted. But beyond that, even if I am being interrupted why are these notifications preventing the other party from hearing my voice?

  • When I make a call, I can hear the person on the other end but they can't hear me. It's not the mic, I use the voice recorder all the time and I have no problems w FaceTime. My headphones and Bluetooth do the same thing as far as not being able to be hea

When I make a call, I can hear the person on the other end but they can't hear me. It's not the mic bc face time or voice recorder are not affected. I can't even use my headphones or Bluetooth to get around the problem. This has stumped 2 geniuses, they just try to swap it out for $150.

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 4. I can hear everyone but they can't hear me. Visited Apple Store and they said speakers were out, both bottom mic and top one for speaker phone. Said they were busted. Reloaded all software and didn't work. Got in parking lot and worked for 1 call. Now it's out again. Wanted $150 for new phone, haven't done it yet. don't know what to do.

  • TS3276 When I reply to an e-mail it comes out blank the other end?

I do not have problems sending e-mails but when I reply to an e-mail it sends but comes out blank the other end?

    '''re: Forwarding'''
You have the option to forward the received email 'inline' or as an 'attachment'.
This can be set up here:
'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab
This is because you are not responding to a specific email - you are selecting to forward information from a different person to another person, which may be best sent as an attachment.
    '''re: Reply'''
In this instance you have the option to either:
    * include the received email in a reply
    * Not include the received email in a reply
    * include selected part (quote) of received email in reply.
A Reply implies a continued conversation and so the option to include the conversation is available.
    This is set up here:
'Tools' > 'Account Settings' > 'Composition & Addressing' for the mail account.
But regardless of whether you choose to 'automatically quote the original message when replying' or not, you can always highlight a section of text and then click on 'Reply' to include only the selected section of text.
A Reply will also not include any attachments that were received attached to the original email because you do not need to send back the senders own attachments.
Otherwise you create a new 'Write' message and attach the original email, so it is not technically a Reply - you do not use the 'Reply' button and these emails will not be threaded. It makes it more difficult to see continuity of conversation.

  • When making a phone call, the other end of the line hears a strange dial up sounding noise. Its loud and quite annoying. What do i do?!

Loud screechy noises are heard on the other end of the line when my iphone 4s is in a phone call. It has to be my phone because multiple people and myself have confirmed hearing it. Its sounds like dial-up. BUT REALLY LOUD!

I just replied to a similar post and I'll copy and paste my response here. I was having the same exact issue. Here is my possible fix.
Yesterday I updated the OS to the latest release. Then right after that I called AT&T and they reset my sim card. Or something like that. They did some sort of reset.
I then got in my car and drove around to test the phone. Because that is when the problem is worse. FINALLY they claim to be able to hear me clearly!!!!
I think it was the combination of both the OS update and the sim card reset that fixed it. Hopefully..... It has only been one day but so far so good. I'll update this post if things change.
Try this and let us know if this works for you.
