Audio only 1-way

Buddy of mine has iChat 3.x (presumably running Tiger) and I am running iChat 4.x, latest version in Leopard.
We can do Video chats, we both see eachother.
I can hear him, but the last couple of times he can't hear me.
He gets other sounds from his computer and I get a signal when I test my iSight's mic.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

  • Audio Only One Way

I have not been able to find an answer to this one. When I try either a video or audio chat, the other person can hear me fine. I cannot hear them. Other iChat sounds (such as log on and off, etc.) can be heard just fine. I have audio with other applications. I have checked to make sure I have all the port open on the router that are needed. What else can I do?

    Hi Ken,
    Two causes.
    1) They have the "wrong" Mic or input device selected in one of two places
    a) System Preferences > Sound > Input tab (Also make sure the volume is high enough to move the response bars to over halfway, preferably 3/4)
    b) In iChat > Preferences > Video > Microphone drop down (needs to be the same as selected above).
    2) one of you may not of set System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and the drop down here to match you download speed. (Automatic returns a 0 (zero) to iChat)
    Opps. One more place.
With iChat as the front Application go to it's Audio (Video) menu to the right of Buddies.
Make sure the Microphone Enabled item is ticked.
It is most likely the top two as the Opps one will not show an Audio icon to you.

  • Two-way video chat with other (audio-only) participants?

Is it possible to have a five-way chat in iChat with
. - myself and one other participant via video, and
. - three other participants via audio only?
I know there's an option for one-way video conferencing, where only one person in a conference has video and the other(s?) have audio, but what about two with video and the others with audio?
And if we did this, could the three audio participants see the two video participants even if the three don't participate via video?

    Hi,
You can start A One Way Video chat with a Buddy without a Camera.
You can add others up to the standard 4 people (you and three others) and some can be audio Only.
You do have to have a Mac of a G4/1Ghz dual or above and have a Upload speed of 256 k at the very Least (Apple Specs say 384k) although more is preferable when you are Host.
Ideally the Host should be the fastest Mac with the fastest connection.
Invite Camera able Buddies first then Audio Only Buddies by clicking on the green A/V icon they are showing in the Buddy list.

  • Best way to play Audio only on a DVD with video?

I have a Meditavie DVD i am making with both video and Audio combined....and i want to make some tracks that are just Audio only
for close eye Meditations. ( i dont want to have to add a CD with the DVD for just Audio)
I made one years ago and just used black as the video output track.
Is there a way to save space and just have the audio track play?
And if so how might i do it and also link to the DVD menu?
    Thanks for any help!
    Soshman

Below is what I wrong before I tested the obvious. Just "import as timeline" the audio only (make sure there is no m2v with the same name); Encore happily builds a disk with black. Mediinfo shows the video stream, but it appears to be at a very low datarate. So, give it a try.  I did not burn a disk; just build to a folder and used a software player.
Other options: Encore slideshows have odd problems, I'd play with making a single slide (just black, right?) slideshow, maybe set to manual advance with no advance - or a very long duration to match the audio length.
If an m2v works better for whatever reason, Encore has a minimum bitrate, I think around 2.x or 1.x. So I would try exporting  from Premiere,10 seconds of black video using CBR 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 and see if it matters.

  • Screen sharing, audio is one-way only.

I have suddenly lost the ability to hear the other person when screen sharing. I screen share my father's computer all the time to help him with general computer issues. I have never had a problem with audio. I can always hear him, and he can always hear me.
Suddenly, this is not working anymore. He can hear me but I cannot hear him. This occurred in the middle of a screen sharing session. We were talking to each other and then suddenly he could not hear me anymore.
What's more puzzling is that I connect to my brother's computer in the exact same way and I do not have a problem with him. Audio is two-way.
I checked my father's audio settings and he doesn't appear to have muted his mic or disabled audio. My audio output is fine. I can hear system sounds, iTunes music, etc…
Could he have pressed a function key or done something without knowing and disabled his mic?
    Thoughts?

    Hi,
    Possibles (but not likely).
    1) In System Preferences > Sound > Input he turned the volume down or changed the Mic selection.
    2) In iChat > Preferences > Video section he changed the Mic selected.
    3) In iChat Video Menu he "turned Off"/Disabled the Microphone Enabled item (He would have to be seeing his own Screen and have control of the Mouse)
    4) Similar for the "Show Audio potion in the View Menu.
NONE (2, 3 and 4) of these have keystrokes set up in iChat or the System (1).
I am unaware if you leave an Audio or Video chat window open after the call was ended at the far end that the Mic Mute button still works. I could see that he may have such a window on his Desktop but don't see this as a working option.
Most Audio drop outs occur in Video chats and it is Internet Speed/bandwidth related (with a fair amount of Processor ability)
If the bandwidth is low (Lower that 256kbps and closer to 100kbps) then if the Frame rate is over 15fps then that computer may not be able to process the Audio as well as the Video pics and will drop the Audio.
Audio Only chats come in around 48-50kbps (top end dial-up) in 1-1 chats.
Screen Sharing at about the 120-150kbps mark (depending on how large the "Display is at the sending end)
This means if he dropped the Bandwidth Setting in iChat > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit drop down the Bit rate from his end may have dropped (slowly/Buffered) to a point where Audio failed to be sent.
The reverse would also be true if you dropped your Bandwidth to try and "Smooth out" the movement of the mouse/pointer.
For both of these last two things try iChat with the Connection Doctor (Video Menu Open. (You are likely to need to switch back and forth between your Screen and his).
I cannot think of anything that is "less intentional" like hitting the Space Bar or other keystroke or such.

  • Capturing audio only in fcp5

I am rather new to Final Cut Pro 5 and have been trying to teach myself as I go along. I am, however, having trouble capturing audio seperate from video. I am shooting a 16mm film and need to capture audio and video to seperate files in order to synch them for edit. While I am able to capture straight video (i.e. without audio) I am unable to capture straight audio (i.e. without video in the same file). The only way that I have been able to capture audio is if some form of video is captured along with it. How can I capture an audio only file. I am using FCP 5 on a PowerBook G4 - capturing through a "Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge" with a Canon ZR 45 for video and a Sony TCD D8 portable DAT for audio. Any information is greatly appreciated and I patiently await your response(s).
    Thank you,

My welcome also but, as a beginner, you really need to run the tutorials and learn how to use the resources you paid for when you got your applications.
Look in the online help system for audio only. Look in the manual index for audio only. Examine the chapter on capturing.
How are you doing Video Only if you don't understand the Clip Settings function or where it is located?
You can force DV to build separate audio and video files while capturing but it's not recommended (dunno why not). If you force separate files, you can simply delete the ones you don't want.

  • Trying to Paste Attributes - AUDIO ONLY. I copy the clip I want - then click Paste Attributes - previously a box appeared with options - now nothing appears.  Only happening with AUDIO attributes.  Anyone else experiencing this?

I am trying to Paste Attributes of AUDIO ONLY - from one clip to another audio clip.  These are the settings for the VOICE OVER on my 15 minute project.  This has worked before.  However now I copy the clip I want o use the attributes from - then I selct PASTE ATTRIBUTES. In the past a new dialogue box would appear and offer me the opportunity to select the attributes or effects I wanted to COPY and PASTE.  Hoever now - there is NOTHING.
I also want to REMOVE the ATTRIBUTES from 287 clips - but apparently I can only do this one at a time?  That seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world.  Certainly this can't be true?  Is there no way to remove ALL Attrributes from all of the clips at the same time?
    Anyone?  Anyone?

I cannot reproduce this. It is working as expected here: select a clip, copy, select another clip (or clips), paste attributes, and I get the usual window - this works for audio only clips as well as other clips.
I suggest you try deleting FCP X preferences with Preference Manager and try again.

Select the clips you want, and delete the effects in the Inspector by selecting and hitting the delete key.

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running? Have you updated 13 to 13.1 yet using an opened project's Help Menu/Updates?
    If not, please do so.
You have not given us enough information with which to help you.

  • Recording audio ONLY from a DVD into iTunes

Hi, I'm new to macs having just got an iMac G5. So far I love it and it's loads better than any windows based system I've had. I'm wondering if it is possible to record the audio only from some music DVD's I have into iTunes...can anyone help or is this simply not possible?

Audio Hijack also creates large files, size-wise. This can be a problem if you are working with putting music on audio cds. Google "ripdifferent" for a site that discusses various methods of legally backing up legally purchased media. The gray area here actually has to do with breaking encryption- under US copyright law, users have always been allowed to make a single back-up (Fair Use) of any recorded media they have purchased. It is possible that media companies are, themselves, in violation of copyright law by making it difficult to make said backups by encrypting their media. Also, copying (ripping, recording, etc.) any DVD in any way would seem to be covered by the warning at the start of all DVDs (including soundtracks), which would include Audio Hijack, for instance. This all came about when the digital revolution made it possible to create exact copies. Back in the day, copying an LP to cassette, for instance, was not considered a problem, because you would lose a generation. BTW, ripping music DVDs can be problematic, as they are mastered differently than are "movies," and some Mac ripping programs have difficulty with them. Proceed cautiously and consider legal ramifications, but also consider retaining YOUR legal rights as well.

  • Can you listen to audio only while playing a movie?

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if there is a way to turn off the screen and listen to the audio only when a movie is playing?
I have some teaching videos as movies and I thought it would be really nice if I could listen to the audio only and save battery power.
    Thank you for your help.
    Marco

I don't know of any way to turn off the video directly so the way I do that is to run the video through a program like Kigo Video Converter to strip out the audio only, then load that on the iPod.

  • Audio only comes from left

I was recently trying to play my powerbook into my stereo with a direct RCA connection and I noticed that the audio was only coming out of the left speaker of the stereo. At first I thought it was the stereo but then I hooked my ipod up to the stereo and it worked fine. I hooked up to the stereo to my airport express and it produced audio through both speakers. The audio also only comes out on the left through the computer. Any ideas on what to do? Also, it is not just from iTunes the audio only comes out on the left with quicktime too.

I was just looking around - seems like there are lots of people with this problem. I was originally looking to see if anyone had a problem with their PowerBook's audio output jack - mine won't let the headphones plug all the way in. But I'd also noticed a frequent balance problem.
The consensus seems to be that if you adjust your sound during a period of high CPU-usage it'll lose proper balance. I ran Audio MIDI Setup (Applications->Utilities) and experimented with adjusting the volume. Lo and behold! When I would hit the volume keys on my keyboard, the sliders wouldn't move quite the same! Quite annoying. Seems that over time the difference gets greater.
Kevin Konikowski pointed out in this thread (http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68b6e310) that an application called balanced exists with the sole purpose of keeping your balance at 50%. You can find it here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26786
Frustrating, but much more manageable knowing what's going on!

  • Audio only dissolve???

In FCP 7 you could add an audio only dissolve by Option Command T
This does not work in  FCPX. Why not?
How can you do this as simply in FCP X?
I saw one explanation of how to do one on Creative Cow but it was a ridiculous 5 step process for a simple audio only dissolve.
This can't be the only way.
It should be as simple as a Option Comman T or even more simple if possible.
Geesh why is that so hard?

In the timeline I can double-click on the waveform part of the clip and it expands the audio. I'm using 10.0.4 and that may be a new feature. Another way is to control-click (or right click) the clip and choose, "Expand Audio."
If you expand the audio on two adjacent clips, you'll be able to do an audio only transition.
    Good luck!

  • Blu-Ray audio only through TV internal speakers...not surround.

Just got a Toshiba 50L1400U. Two issues here......
    1) When the HDMI cable from the Panasonic smart Blu-Ray player is connected to the HDMI port #2 on the TV audio only comes from the internal speakers and not out of the surround. The cable box currently functions fine as did the Blu-Ray HDMI connection with our old Toshiba TV with audio coming from the surround. Suggestions?
    2) Is there a way to turn off the bar at the top of the TV screen to not show when it switches between 2 HD screens while changing stations? Meaning some stations are in 480p with most being in 1080p but the bar shows when swtiching between the 2.
    Thank you for any help.

I don't believe there's a way to disable that bar.
As for the sound, you might want to call customer support.

  • Convert video to audio only

I'm looking to play video podcasts (classroom lectures) on my Nano6g - even as audio only.
My university classes (U. Florida) come as a podcast which Itunes puts in the Movies folder rather than the Podcast or ItunesU folder, perhaps because of the file format. I've tried to copy the files into other folders but that doesn't work.
Is there a way in Itunes 10 to convert these to audio only tracks?
It really ***** that my 5g had this functionality but now I have to carry my Classic and my Nano 6G to do what the 5G could.

Not in iTunes, ditto for QuickTime.
but I bet a google search would point you to some applications that can do it.
And you might check, some podcasts have both versions: video and audio.

  • RTMP Audio Only Streams and the BufferTrait

I'm encountering and issue when trying to access the bufferTrait of an RTMP stream that is audio only.
I can "getTrait" and it retrieves it, but when I try to adjust the bufferTime, it doesn't register any adjustments.
We have a custom buffering to our video streams, and for video streams it is correctly adjusting the bufferTime, but for audio only running through the same custom plugin, no adjustments to the BufferTime are being made, and I can't find a way to increase the buffer.
Is there is specific limitation on BufferTrait when dealing with Audio Only?
    Thanks,
    -Will

Did you try creating  a BufferTrait  variable and then assigning to the variable.bufferTime the new value?
Do you mind publishing your code to see if there is any problem with it, please.
