Audio options, good better best?

If "good" is normal CD quality, would using the "better" or "best" option just be overkill and a waste of space? Or is "better" or "best" really a better option?

Any ideas about an optimum "input volume"? Mine is set at 72%. I am importing from a 4-track cassette.
Thanks for your time. Just trying to get the little things right.

when im done recording several tracks i will solo through each track in my headphones adjusting the volume level to the point where the entire track only spikes red a couple times if at all. then I go back and click on the volume automation and set the db down at the spikes about a db or so at a time until they are in the yellow. after doing all the tracks i play the whole song again and watch for any spikes. usually they occur when a hard kick or snare shot is accompanied by a hard chord strike and/or bass note at the same time. i then adjust the volume with a small db down spike to get the level down right at the instance. this is the best I could figure out since GB doesnt have any mixing console or busing. also I lock and hard pan any live instrument recordings to render them to the hard drive thus relieving the processor a bit. I dont lock the software instrument tracks because they are already rendered. I noticed when I locked all tracks the processor would load up and cause more spiking in the tracks when trying to "master" them one at a time, therein being my reason for locking only real inst. tracks. its time consuming but it worked better for me than trying to lower the recording levels also as the end result was a closer volume match on final mix when doing my ghetto mastering technique. also every time you spike and adjust the volume and you are still in the red you must check the level meters for master and instrument track and click the little red boxes to reset the channel or you may still experience distortion after you have lowered the level.

  • Best Car Audio Options ?

I have an '06 Mercury Milan and just got my Verizon iPhone 4. I want to be able to play my music in my vehicle (via an aux input or Sync system, etc) but I'm not sure which option works best. My radio has an "aux" button, but there is no input jack available. The '06 Milan was before Ford's Sync came out. I know there are some accessories that "broadcast" on an FM frequency, but I've read mostly poor reviews of these. I think my best bet is a direct input into the radio, but I really have no idea how to do this or what to buy. Any car audio experts know the best option ? Cheers,

I have a Dodge Ram with JVC aftermarket head unit, it has a cd changer input, I run ipod into it, some you need to control songs from ipod others do from unit, JVC makes a interface that charges my ipod but have never tried iphone. The aux is probably in the back of radio. I would buy a aftermarket head unit (cd player) Can get a good head plus cable unit that will charge and play for 200 or less, just ask if iphone compatible. • Audio upsampling in Quicktime: best export settings?

I'm using Quicktime to convert audio from 32 kHz to 48 kHz, for use in FCE/FCP. Quicktime gives me several options for export settings. I want to make the conversion lossless, without increasing the size of the audio file too much.
These are the settings I'm using so far:
    Format: Linear PCM
    Channels: Stereo (L R)
    Rate: 48 kHz
Sample Rate Converter Settings: Quality: Best
Linear PCM Settings: Sample size: 16 bits
Are these settings the best choices? Does anyone have experience doing this kind of upsampling?
Here are the other options in Quicktime:
    Format: Linear PCM, A-Law 2:1, IMA 4:1, MACE 3:1, MACE 6:1, QDesign Music 2, Qualcomm PureVoice, and mu-Law 2:1
Channels: 2 Discrete Channels, Mono, Stereo (L R)
Rate: there are other choices, but I know 48 kHz is what I want
    Advanced Settings:
Sample Rate Converter Settings: Faster, Fast, Normal, Better, Best
Linear PCM Settings (when Linear PCM is the format): 8 bit, 16 bit, 24 bit, 32 bit (floating point checked), 32 bit (floating point unchecked).
The file size grows quickly as you increase the Linear PCM bit settings.

You can't create something that is not in the file.
Moving from 32kHz to 48 will only make the file size
larger and can't improve the audio.
Doesn't FCP or FCE import your file at 32. Or does it
change it to 48 after import?
I am aware that increasing the audio from 32 kHz to 48 kHz will not improve the quality of the audio. And yes, Final Cut Pro and Express will both capture and allow you to work witih 32 kHz audio.
I have several hours of video shot with 32 kHz audio settings that I'd prefer to have stored on disk with 48 kHz audio, because (a) some applications like iMovie have demonstrated problems with 32 kHz audio in the past, and (b) the majority of my video is shot with 48 kHz audio, so my 32 kHz video will eventually end up in a 48 kHz project, leaving the upsampling to Final Cut. Yes, I do eventually plan to burn my projects to DVD as well, but this isn't an immediate concern.
The problem with doing the conversion in Final Cut is this: Some of the people knowledgeable about Final Cut Pro and Express recommend doing the upsampling using Quicktime or another application, instead of using Final Cut, because Final Cut may not do as good a job as Quicktime. So my intention is to upsample the audio now in preparation for later projects. I don't completely understand why Final Cut wouldn't do as good of a job at upsampling, but a couple of experienced users in the FCP and FCE forums have independently corroborrated this.
Thanks to everyone for their helpful posts and responsiveness.

  • Which of these to option is better ?

Hi All I,m after some info/feedback Which of these 2 options is better to use on wireless connections  Powerlines or USB Dongles ?  any help greatly recieved
    JamJar62

    Hi jamjar62
The main thing to remember with any wireless comms is that interference can play a major part in stopping it from working at it's best.
Poweline connectors - A well installed ring main is the best for these to work. Any spurs from the ring, including socket extension cables etc, can seriously intefere with the signals between each network connection point.
Wireless (including dongles) - This can be affected by the proximity of other wireless networks. There are some threads on the forums for choosing a channel that will best suit your local conditions. Brick walls can affect transmission also. Microwave ovens in operation can also affect wireless signalling.
I'm lucky enough to have wooden floors with access underneath so my home is all cat6 connected. Cabling although a bit untidy, is the fastest way to connect if you can do it.
Hope that gives you a bit of an insight.

  • Possibility to change Subtitles and Audio Options

    Hello everyone,
I'm from Germany and I have a questions regarding the audio options in TV Series.
Since the release date for series in Germany is far behind the US, I really like the opportunity to purchase season-passes for the US-versions.
But since the language sometimes is hard to understand I also like the possibility of subtitles.
But since iTunes is not offering the possibility to change subtitles or audio options (from english to german, once the german audio is available) I have two options:
1.) Decide for one option (english, english with german subtitles or german)
2.) Buy more than just one version of the series
Personally I don't think that any of those two options are customer-friendly.
I just don't understand, why it isn't possible to switch between audio-options and subtitles once you've paid of the series. I mean, when I go to the store and buy a Blu Ray - no doubt I can do so. And technically it is no problem.
I would love to hear feedback!
    Best regards.

It's not iTunes or Apple's decision, the audio and/or subtitle options that are available on a version of a TV series (or film) in a country's store are set by the rights-holders - they decide what options are available on a release (and whether to release different versions in the same country), all Apple does is put it into the stores in the countries where they've been granted a license to do so.
And if you are in Germany then you can only use the German iTunes Store, you cannot use the US store unless you are in the US

  • Mac Mini HTPC Audio Options?

I'm going to convert my Mini (early 2009) into a home theater PC. I need to know what audio options I have for getting 5.1 sound out of it.
I'm a little confused about the audio out jack. Is this jack a standard stereo headphone jack, or is it a digital audio jack?
What other options are there? I do see an external solution from Sound Blaster (Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi External USB – 5.1). I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this under Snow Leopard?

the TOSlink cable will fit the bill on those models, but I STRONGLY urge you to get a right angle plug on the TOSlink cable, if not, you will have about an 1 1/2-2" of cable sticking out the back of your Mac..it is a little heavy for the 3.5mm plug adapter to hold it in. The right angle plug can easily rest on the video cable and you don't have to worry about the cable sticking out the back.

  • Which option is better?

    Hi all,
I am developing an application which is is CMS.It consists images to upload and display it on web-page.Now here two things comes...
1 Option: Uplaod the image and store it into the database and then display.
2 Option: Upload the image store it on server(i.e not in database) store it's associated info in database and then display the image.
Which option is better and why?
    Expecting kind help ASAP.

The 2nd option is much better, this way you keep your database just for storing the files information such as the image name, type, tags, gps? and other stats.
The image file should be stored separately on the server in a well designed folder structure e.g. Author/Date/Filename.jpg
This makes it easy to use and keeps your data well organised.

  • Synchronize from audio option not available in 'Create mutli-camera source sequence' command?

I watched Jason Levine demonstrate the 'create multi-camera source sequence' feature that allowed you to sync multi-camera clips automatically by clicking on an 'audio' option:(http://tv.adobe.com/watch/creative-cloud-for-video/dslr-editing-workflow-in-adobe-premiere -pro-cc-part-3-multicamera-dslr-workflow-with-automatic-audio-sync/)
I loaded in three clips from three different cameras of the same shoot, and when I follow those instructions and select the above command, it doesn't present the dialogue to select the synchronize from audio feature:
Am I doing something wrong? All three clips have audio...can't figure out why this feature isn't working for me??Is this not available in the Premiere Pro version we have available for download? I'm just in the process of upgrading to 6.02 now to see if thats the case...

This will only be available in Premiere Pro CC due out June 17th.

  • No audio option when rendering

I am useing ae 6.  I cant get any audio to output.  I have not used it in while but i recall there being an audio option in the render q.  It was allways unchecked and i had to check it to have audio in the final render.  Now there is no option for audio anything when i put the comp in the render q.  Any ideas?

Could also be aa compatibility issue... You know, AE vewrsion from the ston age on modern operating system or the latest version of Quicktime might not work that well...

  • Only Audio options under Media Kind for Video files

I am trying to assign a number of video files to media type "Music Video". However, when I Get Info for them, select Option and click on the Media Kind drop down, I only have audio options (Music, Podcast, iTunesU, Audiobook, Voice Memo) and not video options. The videos play alright in iTunes and as far as I can tell the file type and settings are the same as files that do have the video options. Does anyone know how to assign these files?

the only way i can think of is to set in the video options, the tv output to ask i think it is so when you select a video to play it comes up and asks if you want to play through tv and if you say yes it doesnt play it on thew ipod because it thinks you are watching it on a tv so you can hear it but not see it. i think this should work

  • What is the web gallery option good for...

what is the web gallery option good for if it doesnt work on any other computer, other than mine? If i choose save "online" where do i find ftp server ? and what type of sites does this work on?

Saving collections and I suppose web gallery (although I have neverf used it) is really just a reference to file locations on your computer.  So it will not work for any other computer that is not exactly like yours.

  • Best quality audio option for Ipod classic

Hello to everyone, I got a 160 Ipod classic as a present and I dont have previous experience. I am choosing the best way to import the CD collection and came to this 3 choices, after doing some research in the web
-AAC at 320. I have a trained ear and think I can tell the difference with 256, the difference in storage is not that big
-AIFF. I not really counting on this becasuse the files are big and I guess I colud onlu get around 400 CDs on 150 GB
-Apple lossless. I have read the quality is similar to Aiff and they dont take a lot of space.
What do you guys think is the best option for this 160 gb model? quality is important for me. I think the choice is AAC at 320 or Apple lossless, But Apple lossless is still almost double size files than the 320 AAc, so I dont know
Thanks a lot and best regards

There is no definite answer for this, your hearing is unique to you.
The best thing to do is choose a few songs and put them on your iPod in all the different formats you are considering. Then listen to the same song in the different formats and see whether if like the lower bit rate version or if you must have the higher bit rate version.
Personally, I use (good quality) Bose on-ear headphones, a Bose speaker dock and a Klipsch speaker dock. Most of my songs are in 192kbps AAC, some are 256kbps and I don't hear the difference. But then, my age means that my hearing is no longer as acute as it was.
Since you have a 160GB iPod, if you have the room (that is, not too many songs), use the higher bit rate. I began using the higher bit rate when I realised I had the room.
