Audio out from the input jack
topic decisions are hard... sorry if this is in the wrong place.
anyways, this is kinda simple. is there any way to naively use my audio input port to listen to on the macbook? by this i mean, plug in an auxiliary cable from an ipod, or even another computer, and listen to the audio it outputs?
You can use GarageBand to monitor any audio source that is connected to the Mac's input. Make sure your audio input is set to Line In in the Sound Preference panel. Then in GarageBand just select New Track and choose Real Instrument. In the Track Info box, set Monitor to On, and adjust the volume as necessary.
You can also use QuickTime Player to monitor audio if you get the QuickTime Plus upgrade ($30). Just select New Audio Recording and turn up the volume in the little Audio Recording window.
Audio monitoring is turned off by default to prevent feedback from the built-in microphone.

Is there an adaptor that can split the audio out from mic input?
I'd like to use the iPhone on a mixer borad for conferencing. I'm looking for an adaptor that will allow me to separate audio (out) from mic (in) on the iPhone. Any ideas?
Will this work for you?

Video out from the headphone jack died... 30gb 5g
Hi all.
So, I have a 30gb 5g ipod. I have played video out of the headphone jack to a tv for years now. I have the apple version of the video out cable. So, recently, the video stopped playing. The audio plays. YES, it is set to tv out = on, NTSC. This worked fine. Now no video. Video DOES play on the ipod itself. And, I bought an expensive dock cable that has composite out and that does work for video. So, I am just wondering what happened to my video from the headphone jack. I guess I could try to get it fixed, but is it worth it? Any ideas would be appriciated! Thanks!!OK, I was DETERMINED to figure this one out...simply because it USED to work...
Somehow (last 'update' I assume)...my 'TV out' was turned off.
On my 80GB model, it was under menu > videos > video settings > TV Out
I just turned it 'on' and I was back in business...of course it doesn't make up for last weekend, when I was out of town trying to get the darn thing to work...but at least it works now.
Hope this helps. -
Digital Audio Noise from the Headphone Jack
I have been searching for a while to see if anyone else has this problem.
I have random faint digital noise (bleeps, bloops, and whirls) from my headphone jack. This happens regardless of application. I can get it going good by just tossing the volume bar back and forth on the sound pref panel.
I have considerably less of this from the line out but still detectable noise.
I have disconnected everything non essential from the Mac Pro and my power outlet are reduced to a minimum. (monitor and Mac)
I have tried numerous headphones including Etymotic ER•6 and Sony MDR-7505.
This has always been present in 10.4.7 and 10.4.8. Like I said, its faint in volume - but it gets annoying!
I have read the following below and believe these do not apply to me because this is not an external powered device.

2 x 2.6 GHz Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8) 1 GB original RAMI found out today what is causing the noise on my Mac Pro!
Our next door neighbor has a really high power HAM radio that I am picking up static and transmissions from. I thought I was going insane when I heard weird voices coming out via my headphones. I know it is our neighbor because I heard him relay his name and location. Had to get my wife to listen to prove I was not going crazy.
Here is the weird thing. I do not have AirPort or BlueTooth on the MacPro...so I cannot figure out how the transmission is permeating the Mac. Could it be a shielding issue on some internal component?
Thanks!

HT4806 Mac mini digital audio out through the headphone jack
I'm misled by this sentence for audio out port from the support page: "For digital audio, you can use Apple iPhone headset with microphone".
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5539
It is there for all mac minis starting from 2010 model.
Does it mean electrical digital signal? Any chance to get S/PDIF coaxial signal? If an optical signal is OK, you just need one of these:

To convert the optical signal to a co-ax one will need a more complex/expensive convertor. -
Ipod nano 7th GEN no audio out from head phones jack
I am trying to use my Ipod nano 7th Gen with a monster wireless remote that connects to the charging and sync connection. The remote works fine and I can control the Ipod just fine with it, but when I connect the headphones to the headphone jack there is no audio. If I remove the wireless remote receiver from the charging sync connection the headphones jack works just fine. I am using a lighting speed to a 30 pin adaptor because the monster remote receiver is of the 30 pin format if that matters.
Please let me know if this is normal or if there is a work around. My intention is to use the Ipod connected to a motorcycle sound system using the headphones connection to connect it to the motorcycle system amp and control the Ipod wirelessly.
Thank you!Can you provide a link to the monster product, or the model name/number? If it's a Bluetooth product, it seems superfluous to connect the receiver to the dock connector, because the 7th gen nano has built in Bluetooth.
So, IF the remote control device is Bluetooth, you may be able to pair to it from the nano without connecting the receiver device to the dock connector.
If it's not Bluetooth, you may be able to find an equivalent remote control device that IS Bluetooth, and not need to connect anything to the dock connector, which seems to be the source of the problem. -
Looking for a cable that does audio out from the dock connection
I would like to use the iphone with the aux in on my car stereo. I have my iphone in a proclip cradle that is mounted to the dash. I would like a cable that plugs in to the dock connection on the bottom of the iphone and goes into the aux in on the front of my car stereo. I really don't want to use the headphone jack on the top since I have to use the adapter, and after you plug that in to the iphone, and then the cable into that, it sticks up like a mile in the air. Does anyone know of any cables that will work for me??
I have an old 512 MB iPod Shuffle that I gave my 8-yr old son and as well as an iPod Nano that I recently purchased for my daughter. I tried to use my car AUX (Honda Jazz) to play from my iPhone and looks like it does not work for my iPhone (yes, I made it to work in Vodafone network in New Zealand). Then I tried with the old iPod shuffle and it works fine as well. Lastly I tried with iPod Nano and looks like it works with iPod Nano as well. Later I tried with a Samsung headphone to see if it did work with my iPhone (instead of iPhone headphone), it worked well. I am not sure what to do now. I might call Apple to see if they have anything that'll work for iPhone.
Cheers,

Ideapad S400u - Noise coming out from the headphone jack
I also have this annoying noise coming out from my headphone.
It happens while the notebook is charging/plugged.
Could anyone help me?
My lenovo is Ideapad S400u - Windowns 8.1 - 64 bits.
Thank you,Igor,
Welcome to the forum!
Can you describe this noise? Is it coming from the area around the headphone port? If you plug headphones into the port, does the noise go away or change? Is the outlet you are using for charging grounded?
Thanks
Mark

MBP audio out from headphone jack is extremely low in volume
i just sent my macbook pro 13in (mid 2009 model) to the apple store (out of warranty). my problem was that the audio out from the headphone jack was very very low and staticky. the problem arose about 2-3wks ago. i've owned the laptop since june 2009. i've never dropped or damaged it (no water damage, etc)
my local apple store told me they had to replace logic board which seems extreme for what my problem is. i've read numerous forum posts saying that their computers came back with flickering "kernel panic"
has anyone else had a similar audio problem with their computer, and if so was it resolved in this manner?
thanks!I think you may be mistaken. the static coming from macbooks audio output port is as old a story as the macbook itself. IMO, epic fail on apple's part. I am debating complaining in a few months when I decide I deserve a better sound quality from a ridiculously overpriced laptop.

Hi there....on my iMac, suddenly I'm only getting audio out from the headphone jack at the back (which goes into my JBL Creature II's) on the RIGHT hand side. it does seem that suddenly the output jack socket has become defective....anyone else had this kind of thing?
Try it with something else, such as iPod earbuds, to make sure the problem is not on the speaker side.
Also, check System Preferences Sound pane Output tab to make sure the Balance setting did not get set all the way to the right side somehow.
If it's still broken, try resetting the PRAM

My iPhone 5 is suddenly having audio issues through the headphone jack.
So this is a strange situation, and I'll try to explain in depth so that someone might be able to suggest a solution. As reference, I have an iPhone 5 that I purchased in late-February. I've had every other model of iPhone except for the first iPhone, so I am pretty familiar with the device. I used to be on AT&T, and switched to Verizon when I upgraded to the iPhone 5.
Two days ago, I was on a six hour road-trip, and I'd been playing my music like normal through my car's auxillary cable. After stopping for lunch, I went to plug my music again, but once the music started to play, I realized that only the drums were playing at normal levels while the vocals were very, very soft. I switched through a few different songs, and realized that all the songs were being played at different levels; sometimes the backup vocals were normal levels while the instrumentation and lead vocals were quiet, or vice versa. I decided to plug my iPhone in to charge, and when I did this, the audio levels were all normal. However, the iPhone was NOT charging. I removed the charger, and the audio went back to being weak and distorted. I went back and forth at this for a bit, trying to figure out what was going on.
Since then and after some testing, I realize that my iPhone will now only charge anywhere EXCEPT in the car charger (I simply use my USB cable that came with my iPhone and plug it into the power adapter I have in the car). This morning, I tested the audio in my home speaker system, and I had the same audio issues. Only half the song's tracks would be at normal audio levels, while the other half would be at a very quiet, almost nonexistent level. I tried plugging my charger into the phone to see if that'd make a difference, but instead of the audio going back to normal like it does in the car, the music stopped and there was just crackling and very noisy distortion sounds.
I'm super confused and not sure what to do. This has never happened to me with any of my iPhones. I am updating my software right now, and am hoping that that may help somehow. Otherwise, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated!Do the new iMacs have digital audio out through the headphone jack?
Yes.

I need to have audio out from HDMI and headphone jack simultaneously
I need to have audio out from HDMI and headphone jack simultaneously.
I seem to be able to select one or the other, but not both ? !
ThanksNo. You can only use one sound output:
Why can't I select HDMI audio on my Mac mini?
If you connect an HDMI display or television to a Mac mini (Mid 2010 or later), you might not be able to select the HDMI audio device (in System Preferences > Sound > Output). This can happen if you also have headphones plugged in to the computer. Unplug the headphones to be able to select HDMI audio.

How do I get a good line level from the headphone jack from my latest model iMac?
My house is wired for analog sound and have for years used my iPod and iPhone to send an analog signal to my amplifier which drives speakers in multiple rooms. When I try this on my brand new iMac I get a buzz. Is there a setting or patch cable that can give line level analog audio out of my iMac?
There is no audio out any longer on the new iMacs.
Not true. All the iMacs have audio out, including the current models:
Headphone/optical digital audio output (minijack) - this can be used for line output also
Support for Apple iPhone headset with microphone
The current models don't have an audio input. -
When I download audio books from the library I can't find them in my itunes files. All of the chapters do not transfer to my itouch even though they all were downloaded.
I finally figured it out! On the book page of itunes I went to preferences and then import settings and changed the settings from aac to mp3 and when I went back to the page there was my itouch and clicked on it and then books and there were all my books and files! deleted 3 chapters that were greyed out and transfered them again and it worked. Thank you for your help.

No audio output from the orange mini j
Hi all,
I am having problem with my Audigy 4.
Hope you know what I mean, there are three 3.5mm mini jacks
of three different colors: green, black, and orange.
I have noticed that there are audio outputs from the green and black mini jacks only, while the orange mini jack seems to be not working at all.
When I plugged an earphone line to the orange mini jack,
I could hardly hear any sound from it.
Any idea?Message Edited by kwfine on 07--2007:03 AMThe orange jack is the center/subwoofer audio jack. If you're using a 5. speaker system. Make sure you have selected 5. speaker setting in the speaker setup software.
