Audio out of place when transferring iMovie to iDVD

I've made a movie in iMovie 09 that runs just how I want it to in iMovie. However when I transfer it (via sharing with the media browser) to iDVD and preview it (or watch the film on a burnt DVD) towards the end of the movie the audio from the final 6 or 7 clips is played about 45 seconds before the clips themselves occur. The audio also then plays (correctly) with the clip. I have tried detaching the audio from these clips, as some forums seem to suggest but it still turns up in the incorrect place (before the clips themselves). I have tried deleting and reintroducing the offending clips but am wondering if I could have somehow copied and placed the audio to these clips at the wrong place on the project timeline - and for some reason can't see it?
It's a 23 minute movie that is now ruined by out of place audio right at the end so any help much appreciated.
I'm using: iMovie '09 version 8.0.6 and iDVD 7.1.2 on a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core i5, OSX version 10.9.4
Thanks

Are you able to exert the movie to the Desktop and play it with Quicktime Player with all audio OK? What format are the audio clips. Some report best results with AIFF.
iDVD has a bug that if any of the video media is edited after having been added to the project the resulting DVD is compromised.  Therefore try creating a new project entirely.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Audio out of sync when playing HD content

    Hey
I've got an issue with the audio gets out of sync when playing some HD content. I've tried to make sure the video is stored on the Apple TV so it can't be the network connection.
I've also tried a full reset of the unit, but still no luck.
But it's all video clips that has this problem. Even though they encoded the same and so on, some videos audio get out of synced and some don't.
Also have a problem with m4v files locking the ATV (and iTunes for that matter), but renaming it to a mp4 file seems to solve it. But if someone has a fix for that as well I'd much appreciate it.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Jeaz
EDIT: I have tried to use component cables instead of HDMI, but the problem remains. Of course also tested the video on my Mac and no problems. A quick pause and resume usually solves it, but only for a minute or so.

What sort of specification is the video content? Is spec too high for AppleTV.
It may be that it's some kind of bug in AppleTV's playback, that the Mac does not exhibit, or an issue with encoding that causes a problem only on AppleTV.
If you are encoding video and using same as source for the frame rate, it may be better in some cases trying explicitly to specify the frame rate required in case automatic frame rate conversion is introducing some kind of timing issue. Test a short clip to see.

  • Audio distortion when sharing iMovie to IDVD

When I burn an iMovie in iDVD the resulting audio on the DVD is distorted. The audio in iMovie is just great. What am I doing wrong?

  • Photo enlargement when burning iMovie to iDVD

I am currently making a slide show on iMovie. 40 to 50 photos. After burning to DVD there is ONE photo that enlarges out of space. It is the same photo every time. I have tried Ken Burns ON, Off and Fixed. It plays fine on the computer but when I play it on DVD with TV this same photo keeps enlarging completely out of the photo space. All photo were taken with same camera, go figure. I have "Shared" iMovie to Desktop and then drag and drop in idvd. I have also burned from iMove to iDVD and still this ONE photo will not transfer correctly. Even tried scanning to iPhoto JPEG and still it won't work. And tried scanning the business card to iPhoto to JPEG. Anybody got any ideas. This is driving me up the wall.

I find that using Share>Media Browser and selecting the HD 720p option works well with iDVD. I haven't tested this recently (so it may have improved), but the option to Share to iDVD appears to produce inferior results compared to the Media Browser option. Others here have reported this also. Bear in mind though that I'm using interlaced imports - AVCHD, either as Full (1920 x 1080) or Large (960 x 540).
The Media Browser option produces an H.264 file, either in an .m4v container or a .mov container, depending on the size. The Share to iDVD method, however, produces an Apple Intermediate Codec file (AIC) - at least the last time I checked. Perhaps iDVD doesn't handle AIC as efficiently as H.264.
You can access the shared movie in iDVD's Media>Movies panel. Just drag it from there into the iDVD theme background.
I'm not sure that I've addressed all the points in your post Guy, but I hope this helps in some way.

  • Audio goes out of sync when I export to iDvd.

Anybody have any idea what this could be, and how to fix it?
Everything's fine on iMovie, the audio syncs up fine to the video, but in iDvd, the audio seems to have randomly shifted all across the video.
It's not all the audio, some of it is still in place (but with other sound layered over it).

Try exporting the iMovie project as a single full quality dv format quicktime file.
I use iMovie6 HD and this is my usual procedure that works well.
Make the movie in iMovie, will involve many separate clips. When finished, export (share) as a single full quality dv format quick time file. When I have an hours worth of smaller projects, I create a new iMovie project and import all of the quicktime .dv files for each separate short project. I add chapter markers in this project, then share with iDVD. I then burn an hours worth of stuff at best quality and distribute to family and friends.
iDVD seems to work better with iMovie source that has fewer clips.
BTW: Are you having problems with standard def or hi def iMovie source. Another part of my procedure is that I take the raw tapes and download the entire thing into one iMovie project. I don't edit or change the footage at all, just want to archive to DVD for posterity. In this case, I want to share the iMovie project with iDVD directly. This has worked OK for standard def projects, but my first hi def project (1080i) that I tried, the sound was out of sync. To fix this, I had to create a regular DV widescreen iMovie project, and drag all the clips into it from the HD project. It took over an hour for my humble mac mini to convert the files, but I was then able to share with iDVD and the finished DVD worked ok.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why is audio out of synch when I share (export) to mp4, BluRay (FCPX 10.0.9)?

Audio that is carefully synched to the video in the timeline appears off by several frames once I share the files to Bluray or mp4. I believe, but will double check that I exported to DVD without this issue. Any suggestions for fixes would be greatly appreciated.  Paul

Sorry it took a few days to reply Russ.  I wanted a chance to go over the videos carefully.
It does not drift further out of synch, and the synch issue only affects a few short segments of a 42 minute video, one near the beginning, another near the middle and another nearer the end. The segments that have the issue ones were ones I overdubbed audio from an external recorder (Zoom H6) that I used when the video was shot.  However, there are many more segments in the video that were similarly overdubbed using the Zoom recordings where synch is not a problem.
On the weekend I tried making compound clips of the problematic segments in the hope that it might accomplish something but it didn't make a difference at all in the Blueray disk I burned-which I played on my aging Samsung Bluray player.
Here's another interesting fact about this problem:  all of the mp4 files, I discovered, play perfectly in synch on my Mac.  It is only on a PC that some parts are out of synch.  Should I be using Quicktime files for PC instead of MP4?
Thanks for your interest in my little problem Russ.

  • CP4 - Audio out of sync when publish to AVI

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having a problem when I create a presentation using most screen demonstrations where when I try to publish to AVI the audio moves out of whack.
I am running a Vista PC with lots of RAM.
When I publish to Flash it works fine... but we got this thing so that it would produce an AVI !
Any ideas? I have played around with screen capture and encoding settings but to no avail.
    Any help much appreciated!

    Hello there,
I am very sorry to hear that you have encountered problems when publishing to AVI. Since when you publish to SWF you do not experience the same problems, I would strongly recommnend that you report this issue to the Captivate team using the web address I have included below.
Adobe Captivate Feature Request/Bug Report Form
I have seen some issues with the AVI converter and it would be useful if the CP team could inspect your source Captivate file.
If you are working to a deadline then in the meantime you might want to download a trial version of SoThink's SWF To Video Converter. At least for this project you could then get the files converted to AVI whilst you wait to hear back from the CP team.

  • Why is my time audio out of sync when I log and capture?

When I log and Capture from my server, it copies everything.  But when I play it, that audio doesn't match the video, but when I pause it, it stops on the place it is supposed to be?  Anyone have this happen to them before?  Please let me know.  Thank You!

I don't understand.  You log and capture FROM tape.  You could log and capture TO your scratch disk which could possibly be over a network.  If this is the case, try capturing locally and see if that works.  If so. the problem is with your network, not fcp.

  • Why do I run out of space when Transferring Purchases?

There have been many instances when I'm moving the apps from the iPad to the computer through iTunes for syncing purposes and the iPad ends up being "stuck"  since a dialog box from the iPad pops up warning me of no memory left. Why is it losing memory when it's transferring? How do I avoid this? It's happened when I have had 2gigs left on the iPad.

2 things.  The process of transferring apps involves making a copy, then sending it.  The copy uses up space.
Second, if you only have 2 gig open, you will likely run into other similar issues.  Any computer needs some headroom for temporary finds etc.  the old rule of thumb is 10 pct of space.  So you may need to clear some stuff out, just to give your pad room to maneuver.

  • Keep faces and places when transferring pictures

Hi, I just created a new library in Iphoto, but once I did my transfer there is no faces or places that has been setup already in the old library. Any sugestions of how can I keep the same original file with faces and places?
    Thanks,

What you've done is export (via drag and drop) to the Finder and then import to the new Library (via Drag and Drop)
This method misses any metadata you added in iphoto, plus doesn't get the Original of any edited photos.
If you want, you can export (File -> Export and check the box at Places Information) with the Places Ino. There is no way to get Faces onto a photo. If you want to get that you'll need to use iPhoto Library Manager

  • Audio Out Keeps Shorting my Amp

So a weird problem here - I have a 17inch iMac (my parents') that has been repeated connected to their stero system through the normal audio out jack. When they recently began connecting it, a loud hissing sound or "thump thump thump" would come out over the speakers and the amp would turn off almost as if it was shorted.
I've reset the PRAM based on some advice but the problem still persists. Strangely enough, I can connect my powerbook to the amp with no problems.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
    -John

Laast month I bought an iFi speaker kit from Klipsch to connect to my iMac G5 20" (rev B). During the night after a few days I heard loud thumping from the subwoofer. I got up, realized it was coming from there, turned the speaker kit off. In the morning when I tried, a woofer on a satellite was out of commission. They replaced it, I installed it, and 15 minutes later it did the same thing. Loud thumping, loud buzzing, and this time, no more sound, and a test of the speakers on another kit on the PC reveled that again on the same side, the satellite was bust. I just sent back the whole kit today for repair/replacement, but seeing your post now makes me fear that the problem is with the machine. I have also wondered if it was the stereo jack cable that I used (bought brand new, but cheap one).
The thing is...the first time it happened the iMac was turned off (but I don't know if this means there was no power in the audio jack). Also, I have used a similar subwoofer+speakers kit (different model from same brand) on the same machine before for a few weeks with no problem, and I often use headphones as well...

  • HT2844 iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working...

    Hello,
My iMac 27"(late 2009), Audio in/Optical digital audio out port, stopped recognizing my new Bose speaker system, previously working through that port. I tested the speaker system through my iPhone, and it works fine. I hooked it up to the Headphone out/Optical digital audio in port, and it works through that port also. I did a computer restart, I also checked all wiring and did a system repair on the computer. I also restarted the computer in mode where I could use the system utility, and the computer still did not correct the matter, and it reported everything as being "ok". I wented into "sound", through system preferences, and the computer does not recognize anything I plug into the Audio in/Optical digital audio out port. When I plug the speaker sysytem into the headphone out/optical digital audio out port, it does recognize the Bose speaker system as being "headphones".
Reading through a lot of forums, I hear everything from compatibility, to the port being stuck, and on and on. Since the port was working before, and just quit working one day, I wonder if there is a capacitor or fuse or some type of similar thing is blown, and causing the port to be unfunctionable. Maybe the port went bad, but before this time, I had never used it, and the computer does not move around, and I never plug in and pull wiring out unless needing to, and that being rare.
Here is a link to Costco, where I bought the system, and the exact system I have, if this is any help:  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku= A4092931&ST=pla&dgc=ST&cid=262075&lid=4742361&acd=1230980794501410
By the way, I am running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5). I upgraded to Mavericks about a month ago, and expeirienced a number of issues, and had to take my iMac into Apple. Talking with the tech, I decided to wait for a while more before I upgraded to Mavericks. I try and keep the computer maintained.
If any of you have any ideas regadrding wear and tear, and fix I can do, etc., besides having to take my computer into Apple? Thank you, and potentially all of you, for your time and effort in helping me with this issue. Thank you kindly.
    davE

Okay, davE, first, you have posted in the "Mac Pro" forum (not Macbook Pro), so we can't be super helpful
but we help you. First, hold down the Option key while clicking on the speaker icon at the top of your screen. This should show you all the inputs and outputs you have. you could check in "About this Mac" then "More info" to see whatever's recognized. Then, maybe, fire up Audio MIDI. your speaker system should show up there. something might have gotten set incorrectly. You can test it there.  I guess you are using the good ol' analog cable for connection, and it works on your iPhone, so the cable isn't bad.  You could try this. it 's an adapter which might solve your problem

depending on which model of Bose speaker you have, you might try doing a product reset
turn off speakers...unplug power cord from outlet...wait 1 minute..plug cord into outlet..turn on speakers..
    \\turning off automatic standby||
press and hold top of control pod for 6 seconds until you hear 2 tones that go from high to low
other than that ,I  don't know

  • Audio out of sync after exporting into Quicktime using current settings.

Quicktime file has audio out of sync when I export to quicktime movie using current settings.
Ok for about the first few minutes then, out of sync after about 10 minutes.
I shot the footage on tape with my Sony HVR-Z7u.
My Sequence setting is the same as the format of the footage as shown below.
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD 1440x1080
    Editing Time base: 23.98
Quicktime video settings: Compressor: HDV 1080p24
    Audio Settings: Rate 48 KHz
    Depth: 16bit
    Clip format:
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD 1440x1080
    Vid Rate: 23.98
    Compressor: HDV 1080p24
    Audio Rate 48 KHz
    Audio Format: 16bit

I recently moved and both of my editing machines were unplugged for a couple of days until I could get them set up. After turning them back on, the problem had disappeared. Perhaps leaving the system unplugged had allowed some of the internal components to reset? That's the only thing I can think of. At any rate, the issue is gone.

  • Audio out of sync from demuxed program stream

    Hi All,
I've been trying to resolve this problem without any success. I recently ripped some video from a dvd in order to make a backup. I extracted the title I wanted as a muxed program stream. I then used MPEGStreamclip to demux into .m2v and .ac3 files. I imported these into DVDSP and burned the disc. The result is that the audio drifts out of sync over the course of the length of the video (about 1.5 hours). I've done this same exact procedure many many times and haven't had this problem before. In fact the video will play back in perfect sync in both MPEGStreamclip and VLC. I did notice when importing the files into DVDSP that the length of the ac3 file shows a difference of almost 4 seconds (shorter) than the video. So obviously this is the problem. I just can't understand why if the video plays back perfectly its not being extracted properly by MPEGStreamclip. I also tried demuxing with BBDemux, which produced the same result. I then tried with the demux tools in ffmpeg and that process started creating numerous different versioned files of the original file and actually ended up running out of disc space.
Has anyone run into this problem before and found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Ok, I understand what you're doing now. But you're losing some quality by going to 422 and then back to m2v again, not to mention the extra time required for the encoding.
    Thanks,
    Chris
    KADVD wrote:
    Hi Chris,
I have used this method frequently when issues arise,
I use the original "Video TS" from the DVD, open,
Then open Streamclip, select the VOBs in the TS that don't end in a zero,
and drop them into the streamclip window, singly if needed, then convert
to (I prefer) pro res 422 SQ, I like the results better than DV.
assemble if needed in FCP, match sequence settings to clip, and
verify audio and video are in sync, then use compressor to create
    your m2v and ac3.
Depending on how the original DVD was authored, menus, tracks etc.
the ".0" VOBs will frequently contain a 1 sec. black slug, this can
throw the audio out of sync when the video is extracted.
if there is a motion menu this will become a video clip, usually
in VOB "1.0", you probably don't want that.
Hope this is a clearer explanation.
