Audio out of sync on source file

So I've captured 4 tapes from an event. The 1st two tapes captured produced a quicktime file with the audio out of sync. The last two tapes are fine. The sample rates match both the capture settings and sequence settings and "make new clip on timecode break" is turned on. "Abort capture on dropped frame" was left off.
I set up a new scratch disk after already capturing all the footage. I moved everything (render files, capture scratch, audio render, etc.) from one folder to another. I had suspected this being the problem until realizing the problem was not only on the timeline, but also on the source files opening in quicktime player.
I've done searches and everything, but cant seem to find anything helpful. Could dropped frames be doing this?

First, scroll to the right in your browser and make sure the audio 'format' is 48.0kHz...just to check.
What is your media source...DV, HDV, DVCPro...etc?
Is the sync issue a consistent amount, or does it fall further out of sync over time?
If there were timecode breaks or any other reason that caused the capture to 'drop frames', then chances are your setting for 'make new clip on timecode break' is the culprit. FCP will continue to capture beyond the break, but with improper TC.
If the sync just goes further out of sync over time, then it could be the audio was captured at 47.998 or 48.002. This can usually be fixed by 'Exporting as aiff - 48khz/16bit.
Drifting out of sync can be an issue with long captures as well. Might consider breaking captures down to 20 minute chunks.
Post back with info/answers.

  • Audio out of sync h.264 file. Premiere CS5.5

After building a new machine with Premiere CS5.5, using NVIDIA Q4000 card, I'm having troubles wioth my audio being out of sync. I am exporting DSLR footage which the same sequence was previously fine on export on my old computer. Now, when I export, the audio is a few frames out of sync. There's something really funny going on. When I play the same video file in Windows media player, it seems to be in sync. When I play it in Quicktime, it's clearly out of sync. Also, when I upload it to Vimeo, it's out of sync as well.
If you'd like to see the specs of my computer, you will find them in this post:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4211881#4211881
When I export the same file to Mpeg DVD, it seems in sync. Does this issue sound familiar to anyone?

Cripes, what I've seen looks in order. I don't think it is a hardware issue.
Is the audio consistent, or does it drift?
The Audio in the sequence is wav extracted from raw footage, no? Was the audio recorded in camera? Was it a multicamera shoot? Was the original audio\video file the same sampling frequency? Same fps as the sequence?
And, if the audio was doctored outside of premiere, is there a chance that the time was altered?
Are the audio and video locked together on the timeline? Was it locked throughout the process?
Do you monitor the audio through the Blackmagic Decklink Intensity Pro while editing? Does the windows media player also use the card? I only ask because I had a matrox card that did this. If the Card's audio is looped back through the system, it could cause the delay in playback monitoring.
The source sequence is 50fps and the output is 25 fps. Have you tried outputing a 50fps file? Is the source footage 50fps?
If you export an un-edited source clip from the project, do you still get the issue?
All those questions aside, it seems really strange that it plays fine on the timeline, WMP, and VLC, but QT and Vimeo don't work for you. Are you getting the exact sme delay in QT and Vimeo? Could you post a link to the vimeo page? Have you tried test a youtube upload. Have you tried a HD WMV, mpeg2 or DVD of the project?

  • Left / Right audio out of sync on some files

I'm working on an indie film project and audio was captured on a ZoomH1 and Rode Shotgun mic. We ingested the audio onto a 27" 2011 iMac workstation (Mavericks, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, and AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB) and found that left and right were apparently out of sync somehow. That was strange as I have never had a problem like this before, even with the recording equipment we were using, but stranger than that, I handed the files off to an audio engineer who said there wasn't anything wrong with them. They sounded fine. So we sent them around some other places, and they all said the audio was fine.
So I kept testing and I find if I select "Play stereo audio as mono" under accessibility options, I get a ghost track that doesn't seem to actually exist in the file. Like there was another microphone recording in the next room so we can hear lots of room noise and some very, very faint dialogue and a subtle kind of rhythmic beat. Like the dryer was on somewhere. Whatever the case, I can't find any evidence of this audio track in the actual file.
So, the engineer did some mastering of some kind, running it through pro tools, and sent it back to me. And low and behold, they're still sounds out of sync. Like there's a bad echo. A little more tinkering, I find it only happens with these few files, and only when plugged into the audio out. Still no problem on any other Mac or PC. Just this one.
I can't tell if this is a software problem or a hardware problem. I don't even know where to begin. Google searching this topic is a nightmare. Any suggestions?

I'd be more concerned about the frame rate discrepancy.
I'd suspect a hardware problem. If the audio goes to a mixer and the video to a switcher there will almost always be a loss of sync unless a delay is put into the audio path. There's usually a two frame delay going through the buffer in a video switcher.

  • Audio out of sync in M4V file exported from QT

    Hello there,
when I export an .avi movie to (iPhone) .m4v from QT, I get an out of sync encoded movie !
After testing with 10 different .avi files, I have the same problem evey single time I encode an .avi to a .m4v...
Before I updated to 7.6, it used to work perfectly
So I have tried to encode these .avi movies to .m4v/.mp4 with FFMPEGX or with MPEG STREAMCLIP, I've updated the Perian Codecs to 1.1.3...
And it doesn't work neither...Even with these apps I'e got sound out of sync.
Please if anyone have solved this problem I would really appreciate knowing it.
    Thx
    K.

Same issue, but only every once in awhile. And it doesn't seem to be random for me. I try to convert to AppleTV format, m4v as well. The same movies will always fall out of sync no matter how many times I try.
I rip my collection of DVDs straight to AVI because I like the quality, but then make AppleTV ones for viewing on that device. Pixar's Bolt and Wall-E fall out of sync, as well as Pineapple Express and Shawshank Redemption. I've tried multiple times.
Luckily, I just re-ripped from my DVD using handbrake into the proper format and it worked. But it's still annoying. I don't like keeping the m4v when I'm done so I sometimes have to rip again, but I'd rather just convert from my AVI files i keep.

  • Audio out of sync after importing .MOV

Experiencing audio out-of-sync issues after importing a .mov clip into Premiere Pro.
The .mov clip causing the problem does not have a problem when played with quicktime or vlc: The audio matches the video perfectly.
Adobe Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 (4) on OSX 10.9.1
Open Premiere, New Project ... > OK > Import the single video clip (whether by dragging into the app, or using the Media Browser). Start playing the clip in the Source monitor, scrub forward. Result: audio and video are way out of sync.

  • Premiere Elements 12 MP4 Audio out of Sync

Hi, I have just purchased Premiere Elements 12 and im editing MP4's but it seems that for some reason when i import them into PE12 the audio and video is fine up to a certain point then for some reason the audio gets out of sync. But when i play the raw file in VLC its totally fine =\ Anyone have any ideas?
Windows 7 64 Bit with 64bit Version installed.
P.S It seems to just happen on longer videos around 10mins
The only way ive managed to fix this is ungroup the audio and video and cut the audio down so its in sync.. im not doing that every time. Pretty dissapointed with this software tbh =\

This is not Adobe. This is a user to user forum.
If you want to contact Adobe, the way to do that is via its Adobe Chat for questions specific to Premiere Elements 12 (the current version, while it still is the current version).
This is the link to Adobe Chat for you to explore:
    Contact Customer Care
NVIDIA Shadow Play that you are using, apparently for screen capture purposes, is a NVIDIA product. Have you contacted NVIDIA about its product which appears to be a "beta" version at that?
If you can supply more details about your source, perhaps I could spot the core of the issue. Properties from a video audio properties readout program such as MediaInfo would be very helpful in this regard. I find it curious that the properties readout that you post has no Video and Audio bitrate. The video compression shown appears to be H.264 and the audio format seems to be AAC. But what is the wrapper format as represented by the file extension of the file.
An aside....By the way, QuickTime is a requirement for Premiere Elements (any version). And it, like Premiere Elements needs to be run from a User Account with Administrative Privileges and often also with Run As Administrator applied.
Please clarify, you seem to be saying, that 4 or 5 months ago, you could work with "NVIDIA Shadow Play Beta" recorded video in Premiere Elements 12  without issue, but now you cannot?
    a. Do you have the audio out of sync video issue with both the video recorded 4 or 5 months ago and the video recorded today?
    b. Is the problem gone for both when you roll back the driver version to what it was 4 or 5 months ago.
The answers to both of those questions would be a good starting point.

  • Some audio out of sync in after Export

Can using the built in Audio tools  like Loudness,  or adjusting the sound levels in the waveform cause the audio to go out of sync?
I'd say not...but that is what seems to be happening.
    I have a 2hr 30 projet for a DVD.
All individual clips captured on Canon 5d 3 at 48khz 25fps
Project is 48khz 25fp, as set automatically when the clips were first dropped on the timeline
One particular group of 3 clips, seems to randomly and suddenly loose sync in the middle, sometimes at the start, some times in the centre, then often it comes back at the end.
Of the whole 2 hr 30 project only this bit is giving issues, all other clips have been edited in the same way, and are similar lengths, some longer, some shorter, all stay in sync. Max clip length about 8 minutes
In the timeline the audio stays perfectly in sync
I have re made the sequence of three clips , totalling 24 minutes  long, probably 6 times now. and each time after adjusting the audio levels the exported audio has variable sync,
Also re imported the footage and tried again
No added audio tracks, just a single compound clip containing three complete clips, with the ends trimmed
Audio has not bee detached from the video.
All I am doing is adjusting the audio levels,
    Hum On
    Noise reduction to about 2%
    Loudness On :
    Amount 20%
    Uniformity 15%
First noticed this yesterday on a DVD burnt using "Send To Compressor" Create DVD
Also happens using the in built Share, to DVD, ot share To master File
Output settings are also 48khz and 25fps
If I do an export of the clip With no audio corrections, it is fine.  But as son as I try and adjust the audio levels, it goes out of sync.
I'd half suspected I had somehow dragged the audio in the timeline, when adjusting the levels, but no.  Go back and play the clip in the timeline and it is perfect.  But Share  that compound by dropping in to a  New project, export as master and Playback in QT and the audio goes out of sync after I have done a levels correction.  Un-corrected ( for level only ) audio stays in sync.
o master file that single co

How are you exporting? The first quicktime export option or quicktime conversion? What are your settings for the export?
Did you capture with device control with abort capture on dropped frames and create new clip on timecode break enabled?

  • Audio out of sync with elemental plugin, and slower than my i7!!!

    Maaannn!!
I just got a PNY nvidia quadro 1800 with elemental accellerator plugin. I just transcoded 2 hours of HDV straight from premiere 4 with Adobe Media Encoder using the Elemental codec and the audio is out of sync. It plays out of sync on the Blu Ray disk, and in Encore4. The audio is perfectly synced in Premiere. I just did another project a week ago without the Elemental, using the default Main Concept encoder and the audio is perfect. I am pretty sure I have the latest version of the Elemental Accellerator because there is a button to check for updates and it says there are no updates available. Does anybody know what is wrong here?.
The transitions are getting messed up. I can see a small section with the audio synced, then the video repeats after a second throwing them out of sync. I also suspect that the Elemental accelerator does not process any faster than the default h.264 for Blu Ray encoder. I hope I did not waste my money on this nvidia quadro 1800..
Whoooaa! I just woke up and checked the transcoding time.. To transcode approximately 2 hours of HDV it took 6:35 (hr:mm) with the elemental accellerator and it took 5:09 with my i7 920 chip!! Was that nvidia card a waste of money, or what?!!! Between the slower speed and the audio out of sync, I'd say I made a BIG misteak.. Does anybody want to buy a PNY nvidia quadro 1800? it'll be on ebay very soon..
    Win7 64bit, Master Collection 4, i7 2.66 Ghz, Kingston Triple Channel DDR3 1600Mhz 6Gb, ASUS P6T, PNY nvidia quadro 1800.....

    Thanks Neil,
I don't think my audio interface has anything to do with it.. I am using Adobe Media Encoder for the export and the Audio interface's latency has nothing to do with it.. I see the source of the problem but not the solution.. The Elemental plugin is not working properly with the transitions in Premiere. The transitions are visibly botched and the sound is in sync for a partial second of each clip, then the video skips backward as the sound keeps playing. This happens on every clip after the transition.
Whatever you were talking about might have to do with some kind of real time export, but to where? I think Premiere might have some auto plugin delay compensation for audio tracks.. I dont think you even read my post.. My MOTU 896 Mk3 audio interface has a 128 sample buffer leaving a few milliseconds of latency, and I can set it as low as 64.. This still has nothing to do with my problem.. Thanks for your input..
I am curious to know what you thought I was capturing elemental streams and audio from my interface in real time to.. I was unaware of anything that works like that in this type of editing..
The bottom line is that my i7 chip gets the job done much faster than the quadro 1800, and that's a shame that I spent the money on the 1800.. On top of that it doesn't even work properly!!

  • Audio out of sync after exporting into Quicktime using current settings.

Quicktime file has audio out of sync when I export to quicktime movie using current settings.
Ok for about the first few minutes then, out of sync after about 10 minutes.
I shot the footage on tape with my Sony HVR-Z7u.
My Sequence setting is the same as the format of the footage as shown below.
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD 1440x1080
    Editing Time base: 23.98
Quicktime video settings: Compressor: HDV 1080p24
    Audio Settings: Rate 48 KHz
    Depth: 16bit
    Clip format:
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD 1440x1080
    Vid Rate: 23.98
    Compressor: HDV 1080p24
    Audio Rate 48 KHz
    Audio Format: 16bit

I recently moved and both of my editing machines were unplugged for a couple of days until I could get them set up. After turning them back on, the problem had disappeared. Perhaps leaving the system unplugged had allowed some of the internal components to reset? That's the only thing I can think of. At any rate, the issue is gone.

  • Audio out of sync with waveform

We have 3 new computers at work with Final Cut Studio on all of them. Since we got them 2 or 3 weeks ago everything has been fine except today. 2 of them all of a sudden get audio out of sync. You can tell the audio waveform is inline with the video but the audio coming through the speakers are off and get worse as the clip plays. We are recording with xd1 cameras and importing using a card reader and using the xd transfer software. The actual .mov file when played outside of FCP is fine, it's just when it's imported into FCP that the problem occurs. I even have a project that I finished 2 weeks ago, it was fine at the time but when I played it today the audio was all of a sudden off. I've checked the settings and I'm clueless as to what to do. Any suggestions?
I don't know if this makes a difference but the computer that this problem isn't happening too has been updated online. The other 2 haven't. We don't have internet access all the time. I'm thinking an update might cure the problem but we didn't have time to update it today.

I think I figured out what the problem is. We have AJA Kona card installed in the computer but we are at a temporary location so setting the FCP to AJA Kona card but listening through the regular computer speaker output is what is causing the problem. When I setup the FCP to XDCAM 1060i it works fine.

  • Audio out of sync and missing

I have several clips from my Panasonic LX-5 (720P). I created a new project (CS 5.5) and imported the clips. When I play the file directly from Windows Explorer, all is well. However, in the timeline, the audio is way ahead of the video and then part way through a clip, the audio disappears altogether. Also, the line at the top of the sequence is yellow (above transitions, it is green). I thought maybe the final exported file would be fine, but it had the audio out of sync and missing in the same spots, too.
Any ideas what's going on here?
    Thanks,

  • Audio out of sync in iTunes

    Hey Apple,
Why are you forcing the apple community to fix the iTunes audio out-of-sync issue. This has been going on for a loooooong time and the Apple community is suffering from it. We are not happy about this. You need to get support to fix this problem immediately.
I have never enjoyed all  the buggy software you guys throw around and call it good to go when it's not, Very irresponsible to your customers. Hurry up and fix the out of sync issue. Bad Apple, BAD Support.

  • Audio out of sync from demuxed program stream

    Hi All,
I've been trying to resolve this problem without any success. I recently ripped some video from a dvd in order to make a backup. I extracted the title I wanted as a muxed program stream. I then used MPEGStreamclip to demux into .m2v and .ac3 files. I imported these into DVDSP and burned the disc. The result is that the audio drifts out of sync over the course of the length of the video (about 1.5 hours). I've done this same exact procedure many many times and haven't had this problem before. In fact the video will play back in perfect sync in both MPEGStreamclip and VLC. I did notice when importing the files into DVDSP that the length of the ac3 file shows a difference of almost 4 seconds (shorter) than the video. So obviously this is the problem. I just can't understand why if the video plays back perfectly its not being extracted properly by MPEGStreamclip. I also tried demuxing with BBDemux, which produced the same result. I then tried with the demux tools in ffmpeg and that process started creating numerous different versioned files of the original file and actually ended up running out of disc space.
Has anyone run into this problem before and found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Ok, I understand what you're doing now. But you're losing some quality by going to 422 and then back to m2v again, not to mention the extra time required for the encoding.
    Thanks,
    Chris
    KADVD wrote:
    Hi Chris,
I have used this method frequently when issues arise,
I use the original "Video TS" from the DVD, open,
Then open Streamclip, select the VOBs in the TS that don't end in a zero,
and drop them into the streamclip window, singly if needed, then convert
to (I prefer) pro res 422 SQ, I like the results better than DV.
assemble if needed in FCP, match sequence settings to clip, and
verify audio and video are in sync, then use compressor to create
    your m2v and ac3.
Depending on how the original DVD was authored, menus, tracks etc.
the ".0" VOBs will frequently contain a 1 sec. black slug, this can
throw the audio out of sync when the video is extracted.
if there is a motion menu this will become a video clip, usually
in VOB "1.0", you probably don't want that.
Hope this is a clearer explanation.

  • Audio out of sync after encoding

I'm hoping someone can offer a suggestion.  I've encoded my sequence 4 times now and every time the audio is out of sync with the video.  The sequence is about 2 hours long.  It was shot on a HD flip cam, , 1280 x 720 (1.0) 30.00 fps, 44100 Hz.  The sequence is HD 1280 x 720 (1.0), 29.97 fps, 48000 Hz-Stereo.  They are the exact settings I've been using to make these videos for the past 5 months since upgrading to CS5, and this is the first time I'm having this issue.  I usually make 30 minutes videos, this is my longest yet.
I've definitely had this happen before with cs4, but was hoping the upgrade to a better version as well as better computer would do away with these encoding issues. I dont' know what other info you may need, but I'm happy to provide more.
I'm exporting to window's media, NTSC Source Hight Quality, output 720x480, 48kHz, stereo.  Everytime I export it, the video markers only cover half the sequence.  I have to move them to cover the entire sequence.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
I'm at a loss.  Any suggestions would be so appreciated.
    Jules

Thank you so much.  I did have problems with Encore, but I hopefully got that resolved.  This specific problem is audio out of sync in my media encoder.  I can't test the project beforehand.  It took 2 1/2 hours to encode and when I played the finished project, it was out of sync.
