Audio Out only 1 Channel

My audio out jack is only putting out 1 channel. Is there a connection I should check? Or be looking to replace something...
Thanks for any advice!
Also, please let me know if I should post this in another forum...

I have audio out the left side only when using the speakers. Both channels work fine when using the audio jack.

  • Mac Mini Audio out only sending to right speaker

I am running a Mac Mini OS X 10.6.4 as media center.  I am running video directly to my TV, which works fine.  I am running the audio from the Mac Mini out the headphone output through a Y audio Left / Right cable to a sub woofer. The issue I am having is that the audio is only coming out the right side?
When I hook up a pair of headphones I get sound out of both sides, but when I switch it back to the Sony Soundbar it is segemented to the one side.
    Any suggestions?

If the output works fine with a set of headphones and not the Sony soundbar, that suggests the cable feeding the soundbar or the soundbar have issues. Have you reversed the cable channels at the soundbar to verify that the soundbar is working correctly? If the working speaker switched sides, then get a new cable.

  • Audio Out only one channel

There was a previous topic on just this issue but it was archived and I did not see any resolution. I am having the exact same problem with my computer. Sound only comes out of the left internal speaker, and only comes out of the left speaker when plugged in to headphones, external speakers, etc.
Does anybody know what the problem is? Thanks!

Wow, I feel like an idiot. Is there any reason why this would randomly happened because I certainly never changed the balance. Although, I do share my computer with my fiancee now, and nothing is out of the realm of possibility when she uses it...

  • Exported Audio Voiceover Only One Channel

    I created a quicktime screen recording for a screencast/tutorial using QuickTime X.
Brought that clip into FCPX, added some music, a few transitions and some motion graphics/titling.
Exported to h.264 and I'm getting stereo from the music track, but the voiceover is only on one channel.
So I go to audio settings and batch change everything to Mono. I noticed that there are surround sound settings, that is, multiple audio 'tracks'.
    Export and only one channel.
When I monitor in FCP X I heare the audio out of both channels.
When I export it using FCP X H.264 to quicktime: Audio Only On One Channel
    Killing me.
So I I loaded the H.264 exported clip into QuickTime Pro 7
Anyway, In QT 7 I changed all the settings for audio (properties) and turned every channel that showed up to mono, saved as and the QuickTime file now plays voiceover audio on both channels. Yeah!! So it seems.
So I save as in QuickTime 7 and when I play in QuickTime 7 I get the Soundtrack/Voice over audio on two channels.
But when I open it in QuickTime X (or upload the file to YouTube/Vimeo) the voiceover only comes through on one channel. Keep in mind that the stock Music does play through both channels!

I have video clips with 4 channels of audio, I can only hear audio recorded on channel one, how do I hear the other channels......?

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system?     Elements 13 on Windows 7
What is the brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded these videos?        ony  PMW 320
When you import them into your Premiere Elements project, what does Premiere Elements Properties for that import give for
the audio description in the way of number of channels? If you open the Audio Meter (Window Menu/Audio Meters) and you play back
the video in the Premiere Elements Editor, how many channels does the Audio Meter display?
I just drag and drop video and when playing back only channel 1 will appear
What is your intended export for this video in terms of audio as well as video compression and formats?    MP4
I think you can only use audio if it's recorded on channel 1 or it does not recognize it.

  • AppleTV audio out to old amp with only analog audio

I'm thinking about getting the Apple TV for both video and for playing my music on my home stereo system. I currently have an old amp with only analog audio capabilities, but the new ATV looks like it only supports digital optical out, and the digital to analog converters I've looked for seem pretty expensive. How can I get the audio from my music collection (iTunes) to play wirelessly through ATV through my amp?
I currently also have an Airport Express which I use for audio, but I was thinking of selling that and just using the ATV since the ATV can essentially do the same thing as the AX with added video benefit. I've seen some threads on streaming audio from the ATV to the AX, but do I really need both? Seems like there should be another way.
I was thinking of connecting the ATV to my TV via HDMI cable for audio, and then using an analog audio out from the TV to my amp. But, if I'm correct, that would only provide me with sound coming from the TV. It wouldn't give sound out from iTunes, for example. Is that right?
    Are there any other options?

Followings are my observations in audio streaming with Apple TV 3 and Airport Express through AirPlay protocol:
-- Apple TV 3 come with only digital audio outputs through HDMI and optical SPDIF outputs. If you connect optical link from the optical output to optical input of any DAC and HDMI cable from the HDMI output to HDMI input on TV set, audio output will be transmitted through both digital outputs. Thus is is not necessary to turn on TV set unless visual feedback is required. There is no audio analog line output for Apple TV 3.
-- AirportExpress come with single combo mini jack (digital + analog) for audio output regardless of old/new models. You can connect either digital optical link (with Mini/Toslink adaptor) to digital input of DAC or analog line cable (inferior) to analog line input of amplifier. When analog line is used, digital-to-analog conversion is done by DAC built into AirportExpress for which do not expect quality is as good as most external DAC models. What do you expect from a single-chip DAC implementation vs standalone DAC models cost few thousand dollars ? Moreover analog line is susceptible to interference more than digital line.
So the decision to use Apple TV or AirportExpress, analog or digital transmission for audio streaming depends on whether you need WiFi base station features of AirportExpress to establish wireless network and quality of your audio system to justify all-digital audio transmission. Followings are what I use in audio streaming from iMac/iPad mini /iPhone 5 to audio system in living room. Quality of audio output is comparable with Sonos Zone Player as audio source.

  • G62-a50sf : (only) audio out over HDMI?

We have a G62-a50sf notebook at my gf's place that we'd like to use as the source for a (somewhat) audiophile audio set-up.  One possibility to get better-than-headphone-output into a good receiver AND avoid using a separate DAC would be to feed the digital audio output over HDMI to the receiver.
The question I'm hoping to get an answer to is: will this be possible while retaining video output on the laptop's own screen?
    thanks in advance,
    René

Sorry, but your Mac doesn't send sound over HDMI, only mid-2010 and later MBP's send sound (and even then some require different adapters).  Yours is a 2009 MBP, so only video will go over the HDMI cable.  You will need to run audio from the audio out to your TV or digital audio out from your optical audio out to your receiver.

  • SBLive!5.1 Line in only playing audio out in the right speake

I have a PS2, and i connected a audio out into the line-in socket, but the sound will only play on my right speakers. Is there anyway to balance this out?

I used one of the audio in cables (red or white). I believe one is for left, and one is for right, but even when i try the other, the sound only comes out of the right speakers. I connected both red and white into a 2 socket into connector, yet it still only produces sound on the right speakers.

  • Only getting audio out of one ear

Only getting audio out if 1 ear on my mini. Both ears work on all other devices.

    EverclearFan,
Did this soundcard come preinstalled in your computer? If so you will need to contact your computer manufacturer for support as the card may be OEM. OEM components are often modified from their retail standards and require special drivers that only the Vendor will have access to.

  • Splitting digital/analog audio outs?

I'm wondering if there's a way to split the audio out of an Intel Mac Mini into both analog and digital outputs. I'd like both active at the same time.
I've got a Mini in my home theater rack now, which is great. To keep things easy to use for the rest of the family I have the audio and video going straight to the TV. The TV only has analog in for audio. But I also want to run optical digital audio to the receiver to take advantage of the big speakers when appropriate (not used every day).
Conceptually it might need just a splitter, but I've never seen such a thing.
    Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to do this in a trivial fashion. The mini will detect what you have plugged into it (analog or digital) and will only output the proper data.
What I have at home to work around this issue to route digital content to my 7.1 receiver yet stereo to my whole house cable channel is to take the digital out from my receiver and pipe it through a device that converts the digital signal to analog.
The only thing I've been able to find to do this for a somewhat reasonable price is the Thrustmaster. Its quite a hack as this is intended to be used with a set of headphones but it works pretty well.

  • DVD Digital Audio Out

I'm new to the Mac world, and I was wondering does DVD player in Mac OSX do digital audio out? I'm currently using a Dell XPS. I watch all my movies on it and it's connected to a surround system. When I play movies it sends the Dolby Digital signal straight to the Amp where it detects the digital signal and decodes it. Will this work the same way in OSX as long as I use the optical out on the Mac Pro?
    Thanks.

The Apple DVD Player Software may need configuration in order to enable Dolby Digital 2 and DTS Passthrough. Otherwise you will only have 2-channel Stereo LPCM. While most Amps will be able to use Dolby Pro-Logic 2 to emulate Surround Sound, Dolby Digital 2 and DTS support 5.1 Surround Sound.
With your Amp connected to your Mac with an Optical Audio Cable, and no DVD in the drive, start up DVD Player.app.
In the "Disc Setup" Tab of DVD Player Preferences, select "Digital Out - Built In Output" from the "Audio Output" option.
You may have to reset this every time you connect or disconnect the Optical Cable, but the Improved Audio is worth it.

  • Switching Core Audio Drivers - No Audio Out

I have a project in Logic Pro 8. It was recorded with Presonus Core Audio drivers on a Powerbook. The Project was then handed off to me to complete here in the studio.
I re-opened the Logic Express Project in Logic Pro 8 using Digidesign HD hardware and Digidesign's Digidesign HW (HD) Core audio driver. All was well.
We decided to try some changes in routing, using some new equipment M-Audio (ProFire Lightbridge) to take advantage of some Apogee I/O units in the studio. Loaded up the M-Audio Core Audio Drivers (ProFire Lightbridge Multichannel), made sure everything appeared properly in the Apple AMS (Audio Midi Setup) panel and did test tracks in Logic. All was well still
Then I opened the Project, which had been working in Logic 8 and interfacing with the Digi HD hardware, now using the Lightbridge Multichannel driver to access the Apogee I/O, and...no audio.
No indication of activity on the hardware interfaces. I checked Logic 8, onscreen everything appeared normal. Channel meter activity. Channel routing remained unchanged and should have appeared at the appropriate D/A convertor. Digital activity which would have normally been indicated at the ADAT to Firewire interface was non-existent. So, I would deduce that the computer was not directing the Logic channel activity through the new driver to the firewire interface from this project.
I rechecked the test project with tones. I/O activity normal. Audio out. I opened another of the series of sessions from Logic Express to Logic using DAE now using the M-Audio interface. Nada. No firewire/ADAT activity?
I have reverted without problem back to using the DAE/Digi Core Audio model with no problems, but I would like to get the ADAT/Core Audio model running on these same projects as a proof-of-concept, and see no reason why it shouldn't.
    Opinions, suggestions, ideas, questions?

When I was on the phone with M-Audio Tech Support (they're quite helpful) we noted the following:
    1. If you switch over to Core Audio using the Mac's Internal speaker in one of these projects (switch to Apple's internal Core Audio Driver). All Channels are immediately updated to show only Output 1-2 available. and the project plays through channels 1-2 and the MacPro Speaker.
    2. Switching back to DAE Core Audio, all available channels are updated and all plays/records normally using the Digidesign HW (HD) Core Audio Driver.
    3. When the ProFire Lightbridge Core Audio Driver is selected, all channels are updated (now 1-18) and available, but if you select a channel or channel pair on one of the Channel Strips that was not in use previously in this session, an "out" bus for that channel is not created in Logic (which it normally does, assuming you choose a new channel pair for output from a channel strip...)
When a 'new' project is created with the Lightbridge setup selected as the Core Audio output, all channels will auto create an appropriate channel output strip.
My problem only exists when opening a previously created project. (In this case using DAE Core Audio...and I'm not implicating that as the cause, I don't think it is.)
It's like having previous sessions/projects, buying new hardware to improve your ability to work with them only to find out you can't use your new stuff with the old sessions. (Not like that hasn't happened before.)
Either Logic is at fault, not being able to accomodate the driver change from DAE to M-Audio, or the M-Audio driver is, being unable to get Logic to update its Environment to accomodate the new channel availability.

  • NEO2 Audio out not working & Mobo Review

Everything finally working great! Have all the latest live updates and after some hiccups getting the system built, it appears to be everything MSI promised it would be.
I have 3 80 Gig SATA drives, P4 2.53 GHZ, 1 Gig Corsair ddr400 memory in dual mode, 1 Panasonic DVD RAM, 1 SAMSUNG dvd/cdr, 1 Internal multi card reader, Realtek 5600 128 meg video card. Canopus DVSTORM2 hardware/software editing solution. All IRQ's are happy and finally set and there are no conflicts. The system is fast and has not crashed since installing the latest drivers and patches.
The only bad news is,... my audio out is not working! The front panel headphones work, but I can't get any audio out of the back ports. I have the Audio 6 channel port installed, even though I only need 2 channel stereo. I have played with all the settings, and still get nothing! I need also to get audio into the back, which is also not apparently working. All the devices say they are installed and working properly, I just can't get any sound. :O
So.......... Either someone on this thread has some options for me, or I'm off to get a audigy sound card, but I feel I'm pushing it with all the other system devices and IRQ's I'm using. So I would like to use the built in audio. Any help is appreciated.
Also a note... I can hear in the headphone out, a real presence of the SATA drives spinning and reading, it definitely is not a clean output, with the high end drives, they are sooo fast they create electrical ambient sound effects that are loud and annoying! unless listening to R2D2 on steroids is a desired experience!  :D LOL! Perhaps another sound card would bypass this also. As always.... pushing the limits of technology, hey and I haven't even started overclocking any default settings yet!
Anybody have a shot list of settings that might be useful?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Check the front panel audio connector. There are usually 4 pins which need to be shorted to have signal output directed to the rear audio ports. The manual will give the exact pins to short. I think you'll find it's pins 5 & 6 (right channel signal in & return) and pins 9 & 10 (left channel signal in & return). Basically, if you use the front audio header, the rear audio ports wont work.

  • ???_Missing audio on one channel in Prem.Elem. 4 & 7_???

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem concerning Premiere Elements 7 and I can't find a solution to it. Maybe one of you had this before and is able to help me out.
I have a project with several clips where I removed the original audio and added a soundtrack file to play along. The problem is that there is only audio on one channel when I play the scene in preview. Balance is set correctly, audio file is all right. If I look at the audio file in the audio preview window both channels are visible and play just fine. If I look at the audio mixer and start the scene preview both channels are visible in the peak meter but I still only hear one channel. It doesn't matter if the audio is mp3 or wave. I looked at the audio preferences (audio output mapping): when I change the speaker setup, change right/left channel for the output devices the missing channel changes to the other side. It seems it is somehow connected to these settings. But it's the same settings as with other projects which work fine. So it's gotta be a project-related problem. It's not only in the preview missing but also when I export the scene to file. It is only with this project, but it's too much work to rebuild it. I tried the project with Premiere Elements 4, but it's the same. Other projects work fine.
I'm running it on Win XP+SP3, Intel 2,8 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia 6800 GT, MSI 865 PE with onboard C-Media 9739A sound chip, lots of HD space.
Any suggestions on how to solve this problem would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Chris.

Thank you both for your answers. The audio file is stereo with different waveforms for each channel; I just checked that in Adobe
Audition. I also checked the settings of the audio card but there's not much I can change. After these problems occured I updated the
audio card driver to the newest version available. The audio files comes from the video clip I use in the sequence originally. I severed it from the video to edit it in Audition and re-imported it since Premiere Elements hasn't that much sound editing tools. The audio file is fine. There's no channel volume effect applied to the file. As I said I can load it into another project and everything works fine. Gotta be something in this project.
Ok, ok I found it! I was playing with the audio tracks and I moved the audio file to the soundtrack track and it works! Putting it back in Audio tracks 1 or 2, one channel is missing. Very strange behavior. Or is there a way to mute one channel on a whole track since it happend to all audio files in Audio tracks 1 or 2?
Anyway, it's gone and that's great. Thank you for your help!
    Chris.
